Nam's gym was a great experience, I went from not understanding how to throw a jab, to feeling completely confident in my abilities to defend myself. I attended both Muay Thai and BJJ classes for six months and watched my skill set expand tremendously all due to the instruction of Nam and his staff. The classes are both pretty small, anywhere from 4 to 12 people, rendering a lot of guidance and one on one instruction. As for pricing and scheduling, classes are held in the morning around 10:30 to 12:30 or 6-9 at night; if you hold a one year contract it will cost $125/mo while month to month will cost you around $200. My 6 month contract was $150 a month, the pricing is what you'll find at most other gyms, and you can attend as many classes as you want.

Being a fan of Nam since 2008 I was really excited to go to his gym, but what surprised me the most was the fact that he teaches the majority of his classes, the gym is a really tight knit environment and you get to train with absolutely everyone in terms of size and skill set. Everyone is helpful, and you will get to spar and roll on the first day of instruction, which is pretty intimidating but honestly the fastest way to learn. If it werent for the fact that I have to move out of state for Grad School I would still be attending Coach Nam's place for the years to come. But if you are even considering professional instruction in mma, bjj, or muay thai than definitely come here, the first class is free so you really have nothing to lose.

This gym is meant for those whose profession is fighting and they don't do anything other than fight. Not suitable for a newbie or working people for following reasons.

    - They have a one fee for all the classes, so if you are interested only in Muay Thia, then you still have to pay for Jujitsu and MMA.

    - They Muay Thai classes are just boxing classes, no elbows and no knees

    - The monthly fee is very high, and they need one year contract.

I took this class for a month. Nam Phan is a straight up D-Bag.  The people in the class are not bad. Pretty cool guys, not like some other gyms where there are many other D-bags. Here, it is mostly the instructor, but who wants a D-Bag as an instructor?

You looking to train seriously hard? then this is the place for you. This place is no joke, not the place for someone just looking to do some cardio boxing. Everyone is super nice as well. If you come to muy thai at night you'll most likely find me there.

One of the few places in central oc and northern OC to do No gi jiu jitsu/submission grappling. All in all Great gym! No knuckleheads and meat heads! You are greeted and when you come in everyone here is friendly to new people. Top notch instructors who compete in their field.  Hard to describe this place to do it justice! Only way to do it justice is to describe what it is not!

    1. This place is NOT your boys and girls club/United self defense - No gassing out here. You're not going to half ass it with the coaches as they will get on you and push you. I'm embarrassed to say,  I think I almost cried in the MMA class, but I wasn't sure if it was sweat or tears.  No fancy flying dragon shoe here to give you a false confidence and fat instructors with a belly that hangs 2 inches below their waist.

2 This is NOT your overpriced martial arts gym where they hold you by your ankles and shake you down at every chance - 50 Processing fee?!?! 50-70 belt promotions?!  135 for one style?!!? Nononono!!!!   Over here, 100 gets you all 3 styles, BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA and unlimited classes.  There is no belt promotion fee.

    3.  NOT your your air conditioned turbo kick box school with a corporate headquarters and a figurehead- NO sir!!! This gym is run Nam Phan top 25 in the world at his weight class and he runs the training regimen here just as he trained. (since then he has moved up to #8 in the world)  He runs the classes 4 days a week . Here, you get to see the person whose name is on the wall and  the instructors work out with you too.

    4. NOT your typical family gym because the instructor - spar with a 6 year old kid?!!?!? are you kidding me?! None of that here!! Over here, no one under 16 allowed in the adult classes!!! This leaves for good sparring.

Nam Phan is an amazing, no-holds barred Vietnamese MMA fighter.  I remember working out with him before he had a nice facility like this.  He would teach us at a small little class gym area, where there were a bunch of sweaty guys running amok.  Since then, he's upgraded, and rightfully so.  I'm so glad he's finally got his own place where he can show everyone who really wants to learn the true beauty of mixed martial arts.

He teaches you the real deal with a stern, passionate flow of guidance, and simply put, he's just one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.  You wouldn't know it from his fighting in the ring at prestigious events like King of the Cage and Sengoku, but he is so down to Earth, and just always willing to help you learn how to succeed.  He's just the epitome of what a great coach is supposed to be.  If you decide to take the dive into martial arts, make your home Nam Phan Mixed Martial Arts Academy.  You won't regret it!
