3839 McKinney AveExpeeeensive! That's my first thought about nail bar. I went for a friend's birthday get together, and my little manicure cost $17. I thought it was a little high for a plain ol manicure.
Aside from price, everything that I experienced about Nail Bar is great. Everyone working there is super friendly and my manicure came out very nice. A few other people in our party got pedicures and they all seemed happy with their services. Since we had a birthday thing going on, we brought wine and the staff provided glasses, a bucket of ice, etc. A very nice touch. Nail Bar offers other services such as waxing and threading, but I didn't indulge.

It's not that I'm *happy* about having the hair ripped from my crotch. But, they've got a knack for it down here.
I'm 7 months pregnant and I'm leaving for a beach vacation on Sunday which means the dreaded bathing suit.. I can't see my feet, never mind my nethers, so I decided to give this place a try. First off, waxing hurts. Secondly, being pregnant makes all of your nerves uber-sensitive. So anything that hurts un-pregnant will hurt doubly or triply while knocked up. Ireyna was hip to this fact. She tried to make it as painless as possible. The cuteness of the names for waxing services (Bridget Bardot - around the sides and top, the Kojak - completely bare) doesn't make it hurt less, but it helps.
It's well priced, and I felt really comfortable there. I'll go back for the nail services and review again.
ONE DAY LATER....
I convinced my gullible and ugly footed husband to get a pedicure with me for our beach journey and we headed down at 2pm. We walked in and the place had a few people, maybe 3, at the nail bar. The reception asked if we had a reservation (do people make reservations for nail services that aren't acrylics?) and we said "Nope!" She said, "Our first opening is 5:30." Seriously? "Yes." That's it. No, "Sorry" or "Here's a card, make sure you call next time!" just "No." I've been getting my nails did for a loooooong time. I spent $100 in there yesterday on crotch services. Eff that. I'll go back for the wax, but they can keep the nail service.
We drove a mile to Hollywood where they are horribly overstaffed and were seen immediately. 3 hour wait. Sheesh! They are now bumped to a 4 star. I'd like a 3.5 though.

This West Village link in a Chicago-based chain is great because it's open late -- 'til 10pm weeknights and 7pm Saturday and Sunday. So if you get a last-minute invitation to meet for an after-dinner drink, stop here first for their "quickie hand job" (a cuticle trim with nails shaped and buffed to a high shine) so your fingers look fine holding that cocktail glass. Waxing services for men and women are also playfully named after celebrities (Tina Turner for legs; Brooke Shields for eyebrows). Unfortunately their best esthetician (Allison) doesn't work on weekends. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended, especially during busy evening hours.
