We need more restaurants like this in San Jose.!!!! You cant find a place like this unless you are in SF.
My friend introduced me to this place and who knew its been around for the longest time and hidden. The place is small but cozy. The brunch menu is awesome and portions size are great. All the entrees looks amazing.
If you think Nordstrom bistro has the best bread pudding, you need to try Naglee Park Garage bread pudding. They have two flavors vanilla or chocolate. Vanilla is at brunch and chocolate is serve at night. Hands down the best bread pudding I have tried yet.
Key notes:
1. Since the place is small. Have a friend grab a table and you grab the menu.
2. Decide what you want to order
3. Go to the cashier to order
4. If you want coffee, you grab it yourself. Its on the left hand side of the cashier.
This is an extremely cute and rustic looking spot. I went here for breakfast one weekend morning to try the Eggs Naglee, which is their own version of the Egg's Benedict. The place was literally empty when I was there, so I'd expect to receive a speedier turnaround in service and food --I was wrong. The folks here take their sweet time with getting you your order, about 30 minutes.
The Eggs Naglee itself was nothing to brag about. The hollandaise sauce was pretty bland. It felt like there was a slab of yellow cream on my eggs. The tri-tip hash was nothing to hype about either.
I wouldn't go back here again for the food but I would for a beer.
I don't get the hype about this place. maybe I'm not hip enough. maybe I expect my food cooked a little bit differently, but the last time we came here, I ordered the vanilla french toast. sounds simple right? some thickly cut bread, dredged in an egg batter, fried in a pan with some kinda vanilla infusion.
What I got was some overly sweet breaded mush. Maybe it's because I like my french toast firm or maybe it's because I didn't expect it to be so overly sweet (after all isn't that what maple syrup is for?), but I didn't like the dish at all. I like the homey, local feel of the place, but damn the food was horrible and don't think I'll be back...
The Garage is a charming little place- good location, service and decent home style food. This is exactly the type of neighborhood spot that I like. I come here strictly for the French toast and haven't had a chance to try anything else on the menu. Yes, the french toast is very sweet so be prepared. The furniture could be improved -the seating is not that comfortable and maybe the space can feel a little cold. On a Sat or Sun morning, leave Flames to SJPD and come to this spot.
A great little spot. Don't let the 7eleven right next door fool you. This place is known for it's menu that changes daily. They use fresh produce and a really creative style. Breakfast is my favorite but it's nice at dinner is good too. Their patio is a pretty nice spot to enjoy your meal.
I live a few blocks from The Garage (as we call it for short) and love it. It's a small & quaint neighborhood joint but food is gourmet style. All high quality, fresh, & organic ingredients. Although the portions aren't huge-the food is very satisfying. It's like eating a good home cooked meal. The beer and wine selections are great and the place sort has a neighborhood bar feel to it- everyone knows everyone. The ambiance is warm- the kind of place that let's you eat, drink and then hang out with your friends and enjoy the scene. They change their menu each season, but some of my favorites include:
Arugula salad, Caper & olive beef shank, Garlic & paprika pork ribs, Peppercorn Tri-tip, Sweet Potato Fries, Mac & Cheese and the BREAD PUDDING!
Things to note: items are all sold al la carte, so it can get pricey IMHO- but I say it's worth it. And, you order at the counter- no hostess or formal waiters. Parking is also limited, but I usually walk over since I live a few blocks away.
As I walked into the restaurant, I felt a down to earth vibe. The workers are cool, relaxed, and friendly. I thought finally! A place that represents a grungy yet smooth feel. I was captivated by the ambiance of "garage".
You order with the cashier and pay ahead of time. I'd say it's half self serve and half waiter service.
With all this excitement and hype, I was ready to eat. We ordered the french toast with fruit and the breakfast casserole with potatoes. Both items came out and looked gorgeous. However, this is where my disappointment starts and ends. I didn't expect the french toast to be thick bread pudding covered in a sweet cream. It was way too sweet for my taste. I took a couple bites of the first loaf and called it a meal. I like my french toast in medium sized loafs of bread and with syrup. I always wanted to try bread pudding french toast, and my first experience was not enjoyable.
The breakfast casserole came out looking like a thick piece of pie. It was cut in a triangle form. The casserole was stuffed with eggs, chicken, and cheese. I know it sounds good just by those basic ingredients, but the execution in my opinion, failed. The entire casserole was very dry and over cooked. I tried several times to dip it in ketchup to make it more moist, but that did not work. The potatoes were also over cooked.
I've never been that big on breakfast foods. Usually it's 2 eggs and toast for me, but this place changed my mind. It's a quaint little place with a very comfortable, relaxing environment.
Upon looking at the menu I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat, because everything sounded so delicious. I opted for the Breakfast Casserole: baked eggs, rotisserie chicken, potatoes and three cheeses. It was a filling breakfast that came with a nice helping of fresh fruit. The fruit was delicious and perfectly ripened, although I think I might have eaten one too many pineapples, but still delicious!
I will definitely be heading back to try the other mouthwatering items on the menu.

Love. Love, heart, love...love.
Local joint with a down-home feel, so don't be a turd and demand five star service. This is a no fuss, no muss, low maintenance, good food establishment. What you get is genuine friendliness by folks who truly love their restaurant and the neighborhood it's located in.
When I say friendliness, I don't mean a 8 point scripted greeting and salutation that was created by corporate. It's a staff and a chef that will remember you and perhaps make some smartass remark if they really like you. For realz.
I'm often torn between the french-toast and every other dish on the breakfast menu. Problem solved by ordering the kids menu french toast as an add on to whatever you order. The 'Eggs Naglee' is my favorite. The only thing I don't like is the garden scramble.
Take a date here for brunch and don't forget to tip the staff.
Based on my recent experience I would give this place one or two stars but because I've been here a few times before I'm giving it three.
Went here for dinner. They ran out of both the special and the salad I ordered. It's a tiny place and you would think that the staff would be on top of what's available and not available given that the chef is right there preparing the food. After we got the mix up sorted out I opted for the mac and cheese (always a good standby here) and the ribs. The ribs were terrible. There was supposed to be a dry rub (seasoning) on them but I could hardly taste any flavor. I ended up pouring salt all over my ribs just to make them palatable.
It was extremely smokey in the restaurant for some reason and I left the place smelling like I'd been in a korean bbq joint.
The highlight of my meal was the mac and cheese and my quick departure after scarfing it down.
I may come back during the summer to see if the warm weather improves things.
Service was really slow today. It was painful.
We waited almost 30 minutes for our b-fast. Coke was watered down. Was replaced with a Sprite that had better sting and carbonation to it-but still weak. Off day for soda machine? My OJ came really late as well. But the staff was great as usual. Always apologetic and pleasant.
They also won't let us use the outside seating area because we were told that it's cold outside and when people go in n out the inside of the place itself gets cold. But today is one of the warmest day in SJ!
Anyways-my order was slow and the eggs came bland and the sausage was the same as well. I'm disappointed all around.
My thing is: If they get really busy they end up suffering on other aspects of their business- maybe an extra help will work?

Four stars for the location and the huge portion. I came here last year but never really reviewed… Read more »
I am a brunch person. I love breakfast foods for any meal of the day. But my boyfriend, sadly, is not. I had to coax him to take me here today, but he was actually in love with it, saying it was one of the best brunches he's had (and I've dragged him to quite a few). We had the French toast and the leek and sausage bake.
The leek and sausage bake was one of the most interesting egg dishes I've had, namely because it didn't feel like an egg dish. The eggs are scrambled, topped with leeks, sausage, and generous heapings of goat cheese. It's served with ketchup that does not taste like Heinz -- it has chunks of tomatoes in it! The french toast was to die for, equal parts crunchy and creamy with the vanilla bread pudding. My boyfriend and I ate every last bite of it, including the candied pecans that topped it.
Other interesting egg dishes I saw was the egg lasagna, which was made with three eggs and was GIGANTIC. It could've fed 3. Or 2 very hungry people.
Was a bit surprised by the self service, as the price didn't seem like a self-service price, but the food made up for it. We came a bit late, and it wasn't busy at all and there was plenty of food, but outside seating was limited to only the front of the restaurant.
Some tips:
-Parking may be sparse during rush hours, as it's a tiny lot, shared with a 7-Eleven and the House of Bagels.
- Sit outside if you don't want to smell like you've just competed on Man V. Food's diner challenge.
I came here for breakfast and I had the french toast. It was amazing, mostly because it was covered in sweet cream. My friends had the eggs naglee and the salmon eggs thing. Their stuff looked pretty great too. The friend that got the salmon was even able to get goat cheese instead of sour cream.
The place is small, which I love. The kitchen is right behind the bar, so you can see all the food preparation. They only offer about 8 things for breakfast (but they all look great), and you can't order from the dinner menu.
This is a converted garage; like a mechanic's garage not a residential garage. The neighborhood is pretty quiet, so this is great for a sleepy breakfast or brunch.
Oh my God. Yes, their brunch is amazing (FRENCH TOAST!!!) but I went for dinner last Tuesday and I almost cried I was so happy with my meal. That's it. That is all I really have to say.

Mmmmm potatoes....
Ordering was difficult because I wanted everything! I ended up getting the tri-tip… Read more »
I've only been here once so far, but I really want to go back. I drive by it everyday on my way to work and wish that i had time to stop in and get breakfast.
As one of the other reviewers said, you should either call ahead or get there early because they do run out of certain things. We got there around 11ish and they had already run out of what i wanted to order, which oddly i don't even remember what it was now.
Ended up getting the tri-tip hash and a veggie scramble. The tri-tip hash was SOOOOO FREAKIN GOOD! I'm normally not one to order steak for breakfast / brunch...heck, i don't even usually order steak period unless it's at a steakhouse, but this sounded so appealing that i had to try it out and it was well worth it. If you've ever had hash--the food :) -- it is true to it's roots, it's potatoes and onions and some grease. But instead of corned beef or some other lesser meat, they throw in tri-tip. The best part is that it's not meat overload, it's cut into really small pieces so that i didn't feel like i was eating a steak. The grease factor was definitely there, but on the whole it was so good.
The veggie scramble was also very good. i believe it was a scramble / bake, don't really remember, but it was excellent. Got it with fruit on the side...and for the first time in my memory, the side of fruit wasn't just a bunch of MELLON. i'm not really a fan of mellon and so i tend to stear clear of sides of fruit from most places becuase that's most of what they give you.
The offereings here are not your standard fare, they are slightly different than what you get at your run of the mill dennys or country inn, so if you just want a denver omelete, think twice before coming here. But if you're willing to try new twists on old favs, definitely check this place out, it's a neighborhood gem.
The French Toast is one of those things that you couldn't possibly predict and you'll dream about later. Better called "Bread Pudding," we will often order one for the table in addition to whatever egg dish we order for breakfast. Yes, dessert for breakfast.
I love the Breakfast Casserole, while my boyfriend prefers the Eggs of the Day of the Day. No that is not a typo, just one of the many adorable quirks of this happening breakfast spot.
So unassuming, but the burger and vanilla bread pudding were amazing! We sat outside (it was summertime) and listened to the live band alongside our food and drinks. It doesn't get much better.
I come to San Jo often to visit my buddies downtown, they always want to go to Naglee to start the night right. This place has good ideas but it isn't taking off the way you would want to see it do...maybe the parking situation is bad for starters?? Maybe the bands aren't that good that play here? The 2 times I saw live music here, it was not that good at all. Movie nights are ok, the selection of movies are not exactly underground, they are movies that were cool 20 years ago....Maybe do some more local film stuff? I do like the beer selection, their beer is great, the food is mediocore, depending on when you get there.....I think they have the right intentions in what they are doing but they are struggling to accomplish the idea since most of the customers seem to be grumbling when leaving unless you are talking about the regulars....there's too many people complaining about the slow service and dry food and I can see why...I like the place for the chillness, but it lacks charisma from the workers/staff..I had their food and it isn't bad, it's very good if you like fattening, American cuisine/fusion food......I would give this place 3 stars but the place lacks excitement.......if it was my restaurant, it would be a HIT!!!!
I had a tasty brunch out on the patio on a warm, sunny Sunday morning. What's not to love about that?
The only drawbacks:
* The plates are smalllll. The food is not. I had difficulty maneuvering my potatoes around my breakfast meats.
* Self-service coffee refills. It's not that I'm SO lazy that I can't get my own damn coffee, but the cups are small and all the up and down for coffee isn't easy like Sunday morning.
Not really a rating review, more instructions. We went Sunday with a party of 8 at 11:30 and were told that they were out of food. The owner said that we should have called ahead. While I usually would for a largish group, there was nothing online or yelp that highy suggested this so my review is to tell you all you larger groups to CALL AHEAD!
After being kind of rude and patronizing about us not calling, the owner did tell us that if we come back he will 'make it up to us'. I appreciate this, but at the same time it is a Sunday and lots of people eat brunch on sunday... There were 2 other large groups, but only 1 had a reserved sign.
This was the best breakfast ever! I lived sitting outside, having a weekend breakfast beer and chilling out with great company.
I had the egg, bacon and spinach lasagna with potatoes and it was so tasty and filling! My partner had an omlette and it was perfectly cooked.
The service team were helpful and cheery. Definitely will go again! Loved it!
Naglee Park Garage = The Perfect South Bay Sunday Brunch Spot
Strolling in on a hot Sunday around noon, we scoped out the place and were surprised by the heat (no A/C). We were greeted and told to order at the counter then take a seat. With mimosa in hand, my friend and I walked out to the mostly covered patio and picked one of the picnic tables near the back. It was so nice outside! Definitely sit out here when you stop in.
Still discussing our surprise at the ease at which we found parking (right in front), our food was soon brought out to us and I sat in awe of my Bread Pudding French Toast. Then I took a bite. The creaminess of the bread pudding was immediately apparent, combined with the perfect crispness of the outside due to being briefly pan grilled. And the flavor? Pure vanilla goodness. And to my utter delight, there was not a raisin to be found! (The only reason I don't eat bread pudding most of the time).
Did I mention my mimosa came in a large white wine glass, filled mostly with sparkling wine and just some oj for color? Well, it did.
So good.
I think a Sunday mid-afternoon nap is in order.
(I'll be dreaming of this bread pudding french toast).
Naglee Park is one of those places that feels unique the moment you step foot inside. The place has that cool hip vibe that you'd expect from a joint in SF or Berkeley, but surprisingly it's nestled in the outskirts of downtown SJ. The place is small and homely feeling, wood rafters and a bar overlooking the fast moving kitchen is the basic rundown. We came in for a fairly late brunch and were lucky to find seats quickly. Our food came out really fast considering we had a party of 6 and there seemed to be only 1 person cooking in the back. Everything ordered was pretty unique, breakfast food with a flare. My tri tip potato hash with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce was exceptional. The bill was pretty pricey and the portions were solid but not massive, still, the food was original and worth the experience.
the vanilla bread pudding (in the guise of French toast) is alone worth coming here- yum!
after much debate, hubbie ordered the special - crab egg scramble with asparagus, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and hollandaise sauce - it was tasty but the scrambled eggs were in the shape of triangles and hubbie would rather have them just scrambled normal
you get a choice of fruit or potatoes but not both. there was just 1 guy cooking so you may have to wait a bit before you get your food. if there's a group ahead of you - probably even longer
Can't think of a better breakfast offering in all of San Jose, yes! San Jose! Everytime I come here, the food sells out before their 1pm closing time comes (should get it through my head that I won't be lucky one day and get denied of breakfast goodness.) Love love LOVE the french toast!
Despite being in the most pretentious neighborhood in downtown San Jose, Naglee Park--The Garage has a very down-to-earth look and feel...with a great outside patio/seating area. The first time I dined there was for a work gathering--and the one down-side was that the servers didn't seem equipped or prepared to serve a large group. The food was pretty good, but it came out in waves, so you almost felt bad eating in front of other people. If you're a fan of beer--they do have a few unconventional choices that are delicious...and it's a nice place to sit down with a friend/partner and have a nice, quiet conversation. So, if you're looking to go out and have a relaxing evening with a couple of friends--The Garage is an appropriate choice...but if you're looking to be comfortable and have fun/dine-out with a larger crowd, it's probably not the best place to go.
Brunch is my FAVORITE meal of the day.
The first time I ate at Naglee Park Garage, it was an urbanspoon suggestion (thank goodness for iPhones). A friend and I wanted to eat brunch before heading out to the Gilroy Garlic Festival '08. Needless to say, this was the best suggestion urbanspoon has ever given!
PARKING:
Parking is fairly easy to find near 11th & San Carlos - the parking lot is shared with a bagel place, and 7-11, so I recommend finding street or residential parking a block away.
Ordering was a breeze. We walked up to the counter and saw their cute menus printed on brown paper. Still the same items on the menu as last year. The bf was excited to order the French Toast and the Eggs Naglee (per suggestion from you Yelpers!). We both asked for potatoes for the side. Once we paid, we were given our "card" which was a Jack of Clubs slipped between two wine corks :D Very creative.
ENVIRONMENT:
Water was pre-served and offered at the 'bar' area, so we grabbed a couple of those and headed out to the back patio. (there was something green in my water, so I had to grab another one. Eep!) The outdoor patio itself is strewn with Christmas lights, making me want to try out Naglee other than just brunch. There were about a half a dozen couples that were seated, but the place is large enough that we were able to find a table off to ourselves.
The food came out not as quickly as we hoped, but we weren't in a rush. The server made a slight mistake with our order, and only gave us our french toast with an extra plate... but she later realized that we also ordered Eggs Naglee. No biggie to us. We were just relaxing...
FOOD:
My boyfriend took a bite out of the french toast, and he was satisfied :D French toast is his faaave! It was delectable. It's not like any other french toast out there. It's Vanilla bread pudding, whipped cream, maple syrup, and (I believe) pecans. DEFINITELY recommend trying this out when eating at NPG.
My Eggs Naglee was equally satisfying. Very different from the french toast because it was savory instead of sweet. The tri-tip hash was made really well. The spices were not overpowering, and the pieces of tri-tip were like little presents in each bite of potato! The poached eggs were amazing. What was not so amazing was the sauce on the side (it seemed like a tomato-y sauce). Tried it once, didn't like it. Gave it another chance, still the same verdict. Avoid the red sauce on the side =/
The potatoes were soo delicious! I love really crunch potato skins, so I had a ton of those! Some of the bigger potato wedge pieces were a bit soggy for my taste, but the boyfriend scarfed those down in no time =P
All in all, a cute brunch spot in DT San Jose. A few hiccups here and there, but I can't wait to try their dinner menu!
Finally, a new place to have brunch!
I'd been to this cute little brick building years ago just for a coffee with a friend who lives in the neighborhood, but I kept hearing good things recently about the breakfasts. Now I know why!
My friends and I decided on the bread pudding french toast, the eggs Naglee, and the leek and sausage bake. We ordered at the counter, helped ourselves to coffee, and then found a nice table out on the patio to relax at while we waited for our food to arrive. It's a lovely, intimate space, with lilac trees and other flowering plants.
When our food arrived, it was very good. My eggs Naglee consisted of homemade tri-tip hash topped with two poached eggs and a black pepper hollandaise. The hash could have used a little more seasoning, but this was easily remedied. And the hollandaise was excellent, though I didn't really notice a distinct black pepper flavor. My friend's leek and sausage bake was similar to a small frittata, with cherry tomatoes and goat cheese, and was also yummy. But the french toast stole the show. Imagine vanilla bread pudding slices prepared as french toast, then covered with syrup and chopped pecans. It was really good, although a bit sweet to have as an entire meal. I swapped one of my poached eggs for some of the french toast, so both my friend and I were very happy.
Even though this isn't a sit-down restaurant, the staff still made a point of checking in on us regularly and were very friendly. I'd love to try dinner here as well, but will most definitely be back for brunch again.
3.5 stars
I came here a few weeks ago with hubby for breakfast before studying at MLK.
Came in at a time when it wasn't packed .. but service was still a bit on the slow side.
We ordered the breakfast casserole and the salmon scramble. When we got our food, it looked really good.. but I can only say it was okay and nothing to write home about.
My casserole was pretty thick and hard to eat because it was more potato than egg. The salmon scramble wasn't that delectable either as it seemed to be missing something special to it. It was a tad fishy. The potatoes that came with our meal weren't bad.. it just seemed like everything was too heavy so the fries didn't seem to appetizing to go with it. I should have opted for the fruit.
I'm sure there are better things on the menu to order and we probably just got the wrong items on the wrong day for us. I'm definitely willing to come back to try something else.. and this time we'll sit out on the patio!
I totally wrote a review for this place damn it and now its gone! GRRRRRR
A few months back I came here with two other people to check out things. The place is small but the patio is large. This makes it perfect on a nice day to grab a bite.
You walk in order at the counter. Make sure you look out for signs of their special menus that arent always printed (Angus Burger) AWESOME! Then grab your drink and utensils and find a seat because they will bring the food to you.
The food I had was a big portion and tasted very yummy. I ate the leftovers the next day and they were even better. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I have ever had. They had some sort of seasoning and oil on them I cannot explain.
The others had the angus burgers and if they weren't so big would have ordered two because they tasted so delicious.
I want to try the bread pudding and the breakfast that everyone always raves about so I will be back.
Pretty good food, but don't count on getting what you ordered...
I ate here a couple of months ago after hearing great things about it for a long time. I live five blocks away so I was hopeful that I might find a good brunch place a short walk from my house.
When my partner and I arrived, we weren't even sure they were open. There was only one other person eating and three people hanging out behind the counter. The bored and totally unhelpful girl behind the counter took our order (we both got the same thing. I actually said "I'll have the same please").
For the next 15 minutes we waited while the 3 people "working" talked about what they were going to do when they got off work (something involving bikes and beer I think). When the food finally came, one omelet came with a side of potatoes, the other with fruit. "Excuse me, I ordered potatoes," I said. The bike/beer guy said he was sorry and he would bring them right away.
We went on eating, thinking that they were actually doing something behind the counter. As time went on, I thought "maybe these potatoes really take a long time to cook..." When we finished eating, the unhelpful girl from before came to clear our plates and asked us how everything was. "Great, but I'm still waiting for the potatoes I ordered." She gave me a confused look, went back behind the counter and the three of them all did the "didn't you...?" "I thought you said..." "No I told you..." thing.
After a few minutes of that, we just decided to leave. (good thing we had paid when we ordered or we would have had to wait even longer) As we left, the confused, unhelpful girl offered to give me the potatoes to go. "Keep them" I said. I don't know about you, but I like all components of a meal at the same time, not spread out over time and space.
I must say, despite the lame service, the food (that we actually got) was pretty good. But still, I would rather go to Bill's for some greasy brunch. At least they bring you what you order.
1 star for location...While the Garage had the possibility of being GREAT since it had the cool outdoor patio and "should have been" solid menu it totally missed the mark on taste and service.
We arrived on a Friday night and the cashier/server/cook was in completely unorganized. They were all arguiing and trying to correct something. We didn't get a formal greeting except a blunt - what do you want to order..to start off, we ordered an Arnold Palmer. So this is is how it went:
Cashier: 1 Arnold Palmer
Guy at Counter: What's an Arnold Palmer
Cashier:Lemonade and Iced Tea
Guy at Counter: We don't have anymore iced tea
Cashier: Just give him Lemonade.
What the heck!? Did you ask us if we wanted a lemonade? Is it right to assume? Hello!? We're right in front of you..still trying to order.
So we order - Jerusalem Soup, Beet Salad, Spinach Salad, Brussel Sprouts and Sirloin Steak. The only thing that was halfway decent was the soup. It was rich, creamy and delicious. All the others was just eh.
The flavor meshing just wasn't there. The brussel sprouts were soggy, the steak too rare and flavorless.
1 star from adding a B to their name...GAR-"insert letter here"-age. I'm sad because this place had so much potential...
The layout:
- small and cozy inside with a roomy patio outside
- order at the counter and they bring your grub
- some smaller tables and many family-style shared tables on the patio
The vibe:
- Neighborhood through and through. From the personable and creative owners, very friendly and helpful staff and the fun crowd of regulars this place is a hit.
- Fun, relaxed, social atmosphere
- Live music can be hard to talk over, but not impossible. The grandparents may want to sit indoors ;)
The grub:
- Very cool dishes, well prepared and tasty. Seasonal items such as fava beans and specials daily
- Trumer Pils on tap, 'nuff said
- Inexpensive but well thought out wines
- Sangria bar on the patio is dangerously convenient and tasty
Walk, ride, cab, but if you drive, parking can be limited but not impossible.
A downtown favorite! Great food in a chill neighborhood atmosphere.
Try these:
* mac & cheese
* sweet potato fries
* lamb
* angus burger
and don't forget to share the best vanilla bread pudding ever! And I don't even like bread pudding. Worth stopping in just for that!
A great place to meet friends for a few drinks and food, hang in the beautifully lush, heat-lamped patio. A little downtown oasis! I love going for their live music and outdoor film nights during the summer.
I've had breakfast at NPG three times, each time equally outstanding as the previous!
First time I had the sausage & leek bake, a major bonus point for me is leek is in season. Im happy that a restaurant in SJ actually uses food thats in season. Seriously, where can you find 'leek' on a menu in SJ anywhere?
Next time I ordered the French Toast. I didn't read the details on the menu on the actual type of French toast, but their version is totally amazing. This is not your ordinary, traditional French toast...its a Vanilla pudding French Toast.
This last time I tried Eggs Naglee. I think the tri tip hash needs a little more spice, but tapatio solved that for me
This is a place to checkout and is a wonderful alternative to the crappy diner type breakfast places we have here. It looks like all the food is prepared in advance in heavy cast iron skillets...food just bursting with yummy goodness like the good sun.
I would recommend this place a thousand times over. The staff is accommodating and very attentive/friendly.
Stopped by here for dinner a few days ago, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed by what the staff is able to do such a small space. The cashier suggested the salsify which up until then I had never heard about, but was quite tasty. The salt cod was nicely done as well - gotta appreciate the effort to serve entrees that you normally do not find around downtown. Can't wait until they do their Mardi Gras specials!
Hidden.
No, seriously. I drive down this street EVERY DAY for school, and I have never noticed it. I have even stopped at the 7-11 next to it and never noticed it. It's small and located behind the 7-11. You might confuse it for a house bc it looks like one.
The food here was pretty good. Not a lot of options, but what they had was good. The ribs were delish and the twice baked potato was to dieeeeee for. What's weird, though, is how they wouldn't take out the bacon for my vegetarian friend. Eh. It's OK, I offered to eat all of the bacon for her.
What made this place really cool was the ambiance. The owner and workers were so awesome and the customers all seemed to be regulars. It was such a friendly atmosphere. I will be back here. :)
The little garage is awesome. It's tiny and they sometimes run out of things, but that means they only buy just enough for the day and serve things fresh.
The menu varies seasonally, but there are a few constants. For example, I have never had a better burger anywhere. It's unnaturally good. Also, on the weekends, the Bread Pudding French Toast is heavenly.
Beyond that, they managed to get me to enjoy brussel sprouts. I asked the chef one night, "What's good today?" He said I had to have the brussel sprouts. I looked at him like he was a space alien, but I've learned to trust him over the years. Sure enough - brussel sprouts roasted with bacon and sage. I ordered them again next time, and the time after that. The man has me craving brussel sprouts! Seriously, that's a miracle.
It was a little emptier than I expected it to be for a saturday morning, but it was a nice place to have brunch. The food was interesting, but not my favorite when it comes to how the eggs are prepared. I'm not quite sure how they make their fluffy egg creations, but they are definitely huge and very filling. I agree with other reviewers who've noted that they ought to add some simpler egg plates on the menu for those who don't want to eat their gigantic 3 egg lasagna. They also do have an awesome little patio area.
Our dining experience here was a huge letdown. I've been trying to get here for a while now as I've read so many good reviews. We were down in San Jose this weekend and wanted to eat someplace with a patio since it was a hot day. The staff was friendly enough when we walked in and explained that you order at the counted and are then brought your food.
I ordered the strawberry spinach salad, my husband ordered a burger and got a side of brussel sprouts. They brought my salad out way before the burger was ready and it was completely drenched in balsamic vinegar, not even a vinagrette. My huband had ordered his burger medium but it came out practially moo-ing. And the brussel spouts were overcooked and had little flavor.
Maybe breakfast is a better dining experience here, but I wouldn't come here for dinner again.
