Dr. Graven delivered both my kids, via c-section.  I had fewer problems, easier healing, and overall a better experience with the surgery than everyone else whose birth stories I have heard.  She uses a local pain pump, which also enabled me to nurse without any risk to the baby.  She is an amazing surgeon.

She communicates clearly, and is willing to answer questions.  I prefer her no-nonsense style.

She does occasionally miss appointments.  But having caused at least one absence with an emergency medical situation when she was taking care of me, I can excuse a fair amount of that.

Depending on what you need, this office is either pretty good or near-dangerous (if you consider unnecessary surgeries dangerous).

For routine exams and "emergency" female issues they are very accommodating which may be why some people have mentioned there are long waits.  I haven't experienced that much more than any other doctor's office and greatly appreciate their squeezing me in when I desperately need it.

I've dealt with two of their PA's for years and I think they're both very well-qualified.

When I first met Dr. Graven it was when 3D ultrasounds had just come out (about 7 yrs ago?) and she knew how to do them.  My sister was pregnant at the time and wanted to take an in utero look so she saw Dr. Graven and I went with her.  Dr. Graven seemed personable and competent so I changed to her office.  Over the years she monitored a condition I had and when it took a turn for the worse (or so she thought), she recommended surgery to take care of the problem, with a possibility that it might have to be "the" surgery.  I went to get a 2nd opinion at a doctor she didn't seem to care much for and lo and behold, I simply needed a hormone adjustment.  My new-doctor-to-be diagnosed it sitting at his desk and confirmed with blood test and ultrasound.  He also explained why, on a physical level, what Dr. Graven was saying was happening in my body could not be the cause of the symptoms.

It's been about 2 years now and no need for surgery and no symptoms!  I can't believe I almost had a surgery that would keep me out of work for 4 to 6 weeks when not warranted.  You can see on my reviews the mix of mainstream and alternative healthcare practitioners I swear by.

Giving 4 stars only because Dr. Graven is very busy and if you have a simple, uneventful pregnancy like I do, waiting and sometimes not even seeing her when promised is almost a norm.

But wait! Once you meet her, you will see it was all worth waiting for. She is smart, relaxing, funny, witty, open, charming and most importantly, experienced. I am sold for life and cant wait to give birth (in 3 months) with her help.

This review is for Shawna Sopp, the PA who is working under Dr. Graven.  I guess all the PAs handle the annual exams while the docs handle all the OB stuff.

Walking into the Women's Center... it's cozy and nicely decorated.  Most of the staff was friendly, save for this one lady who I thought was an absolute bitch for no reason and she was the one who was interacting with clients the most.  I've had a much better experience with the exam too.  Sopp was nice enough, but awkward and rough IMO.

I don't think I would come back to this place.  I want to see a real OB/GYN next time.  Too bad my insurance provides slim pickings.

I saw Shawna Sopp, Dr. Graven's PA. I found her sort of hard to talk to and thought she seemed kind of rushed. I asked her a couple general questions and she gave me rushed answers and wasn't very helpful.

Overall though, she got the job done and I was out of there pretty quickly

I went to Dr. Graven for a second opinion regarding a surgical procedure. She provided me with a lot more explanations and options and in the end it was a great decision I made to go with Dr. Graven for the surgery that I ended up doing because she has so much experience with it and she was able to do the other 2 surgeries that followed which was a rare surgery done on only the few that have my condition. My suggestion is like with any doctor's visit, try to schedule a morning appointment so you don't have to wait 2 hours like I did one time on a Friday evening (I was the last patient that day).

Given the negative reviews I have to put in my two cents for Erica Brown, my PA (physician's assistant) at Dr Graven's office.   Erica's been doing my standard annuals for a number of years now and she is always gentle and considerate.

Even though the office team is bustling with moms-to-be,  she always makes non-pregnant me feel well cared for.  Whenever I have questions or concerns she is thorough in her questioning and follow ups.

It's true that Dr Graven herself is rather brisk and always seems on the verge of rushing to the hospital to deliver another baby, so in my case I'm delighted to continue seeing Erica.

PS. Ladies, for those of you that find the annual pelvic exam painful, I learned that speculums come in at least 2 sizes so if it hurts when they crank you open (bleh!!) don't hesitate to ask for the smaller one!

I've moved back to California after 3+ years in Florida and needed to find a new gynecologist, so was referred by my insurance company to Dr. Graven.  I called for an appointment and was given a time for the next day.  I was told up front that I would be seeing the PA, Shawna, if that was okay, and will see Dr. Graven for my follow up appt,  It was nice to know what to expect before showing up.  I arrived (cute and whimsically decorated waiting room) and was called into the examining room within a few minutes after I completed the paperwork.   After general BP, weight and intake info, I waited maybe 5 minutes before seeing Shawna.  Although Shawna looked no older than my daughters, she immediately engendered a sense of trust and competence in me.  She was excellent, extremely thorough and knowledgeable.  Shawna gave me great information and advice that I have not heard from any of my previous gynecologists, and listened carefully.  She completed the exam with professionalism and warmth, while engaging me in a bit of chit-chat about myself (smooth move to keep my mind off of the procedures and learn a bit more about me.)  She was up-to-date on new studies and drugs, and tracked very well.  Everyone else was very attentive, professional and friendly.  I go back in 2 weeks to see Dr. Graven.

This is, by far, the best experience I have ever had with a doctor's office (I have multiple decades of experience.)  The office seemed to be run extremely efficiently.  Communication was good.  A long wait was not necessary.  The time spent with me was true interraction and not just a healthcare professional's monologue.  I'm thrilled!
