I can concur with Catherine that the service isn't worth attempting to try and make a good experience at this restaurant. I waited 15 minutes without one attempt to get me a drink, a water, a menu, a feeling that I was a human being in her space. There was only 3 other people at the bar, and they were part of my group. What's the phrase I'm looking for? Oh yeah, Fuck this place. At least she scored a drink AND a dish. Amazing.

This place could be the cutest little tapas bar that ever was, and it is pretty cute, but that doesn't excuse the totally indifferent/silent/surly bartender girl, who was more concerned with her earrings and tapping on her iPhone than attending to our needs. Whatta bizatch. We would have stayed for dinner, but she was so unpleasant we left after a single tapa (does "tapas" have a singular?), even though it was quite mouth-melty. Overall: meh.

You guys had me duped on this one. Wasn't nearly as good as I anticipated. We were a party of 6 and they stuck us in the 'harem booth' where there's seating for 4, table for 2, and squeezed us 6 in. It's one of those see and be seen places which explains a lot.  I mean..gimme a break. There was salad as a choice on a Tapas menu. That is, if you can read the menu. It's dimmer than a bat cave in there. We had to use our cell phone light. To add insult to injury, the menu was a piece of paper that looked like it's been tea washed and burnt to give that Declaration of Independence worn crinkly look and feel.

Their saving grace from a 2 star review was their meatballs/squid in squid ink sauce, pan con chocolate. Everything else was wack, and lord knows I sampled 11 dishes. The waitress/bartender seemed to be overwhelmed yet added a 20% tip on top of tax....er OK. Needless to say I won't be back anytime soon.

Total came out to $33/pp w/ everything.

I took my foodie meetup here:

I totally agree with Carl G. and Catherine H.
Myself and 3 other girlfriends went there one evening to enjoy some light snacks and multiple pitchers of sangria. After a 150$ tab, the latina bartender girl was still more interested in flirting with the much older patrons sitting at the bar staring at her cleavage. It seriously took us asking a bar-back for the tab. And she still was a snob about it. they need to get rid of her.
The tapas was amazing, though. the croquettes, nuts, and the cheese plates were amazing, especially the guava gelle'. And the 5 pitchers of sangria were great. Too bad her attitude wasn't as good as our food.

Small dishes, small place?

I like the place, but there were some issues, partly because we had 6 ppl in our group and they sat us in their only booth that really is made for 4.

But as food goes, they are pretty good.

Things to get:

Black Pearls = Meat balls w/ squid ink
Chicken Skewers
Chirizos
Anchovies
Queso
Pan con chocolate

Things to avoid
Shrimps = bland, no flavor frozen then nuked type
croquettes = burnt and very small

The sangria is pretty good and quite affordable. Its $20 for a pitcher and it came out to 9 glasses.

BTW, they take credit cards now, so no need to hit the ATM before you dine on Tapas.

A fave destination.  Been coming here for years, perhaps since before the turn.  It hasn't changed much since. The tapas are interesting and tasty (if meat-laden) and the sangria is dangerous and very tasty.

Ambiance is fantastico.  Not an amazing place for a group of more than 4 to 6 (there are some tables that accommodate small groups), but for the most part it's belly up to the sangria bar.  Cash only, so hit the ATM first.

In zah fverdz uff Ahh-nuld: Ahlll pbee baahk.

I came here with a friend to party-hardy for his birthday.  Food was surprisingly good (try the meatballs in squid ink).  I say surprised because I was a bit skeptical about a tapas bar with a hipster/emo grammatical symbol/sound as a name.  I mean seriously, "n?"

Be wary of their HELLA TALL bar stools/benches.  My short asian self nearly wiped out twice.

Laid-back atmosphere, great for a drink with friends. I've never eaten here so no comment about the food. Love the location: tucked away in Soho. (I know, that sounds like an oxymoron, but not every street in Soho is infested with lost tourists and bitch fashion interns.) Go with a small group and bring cash.

I love n (tilde) for the following reasons:

- It's hidden in old New York, cobblestone road and all
- It's dark and romantic
- They have good authentic tapas
- They train you to drink pitchers of their fantastic sangria
- I had my first and best mojito ever 10+ years ago and none have compared
- Lenny Kravitz used to have an apartment across the street
- C took googly pictures with Dawson's Creek's Pacey here once
- The place is still alive and kicking after 10+ years
- Warm fuzzies all around

Back in Chi I went out for tapas probably once a week and hadn't had any since I moved to NYC. Therefore, my dear yelpers, I was longing for some tapas. I was told that this was a great place to go plus it was close to where I was. The Spanish tortilla (not a tortilla as we would think of it, but rather an egg and potato omelet-ish dish) was amazing and really authentic and the gambas con salsa verde was amazing. The croquettas left a bit to be desired, not really traditional and a tad dry. The atmosphere was great as were the drinks. Great place and will be going back there again.

i'll describe my evening at "n" as an inner battle between my saint and sin manifest in quiet conversation with the food and wine

[  the gambas whispered, "don't tell her, overlook the sensation that we have been prepped, frozen, not thoroughly nuked, and cold and just pretend to enjoy this moment."

the wine in glass looked up and said, "tell the truth, chico..."

the meatballs in tinto said, "don't tell her.  just overlook the fact we taste like we've been prepped, frozen, overly nuked, and dry and pretend to enjoy this moment."

the wine said, "tell her before we go to far..."

the pan con tomate exclaimed, "don't speak of it! and don't mention that we are a bland bit of dry toast!  just enjoy the moment amigo.  olvidalo!"

vino veritas assured, "tell her and then everything will be alright..."   ]

really great ambiance.  really perfect for a one on one.  great cava, great wine, not so good food.

sorry jess... muwaah!!!

Very nice vibe and atmosphere. Great music too. They have these cozy little rooms, dimly lit with votives which are great for a group of 4 at most 5 cause there small. The place is tiny. I have to say I wasn't at all that impressed with the food. I've had better tapas elsewhere, but certainly a great place to go to for a Friday night with a small group of friends.

From the reviews below I was expecting N to be the size of a hot dog stand like Bar Carrera, but it's not.

Seating consists of bar stools lined up at the bar that extends to the back of the bar.  While it does get crowded during peak hour, there is a back-room that provides more space to move and groove.

The atmosphere is very intimate with unjarring music to clash with conversations.  Food was excellente, menu consisted of items that didn't make me yawn.

On that particular night they had live Flamenco dancers and musicians set up in the middle of the bar for an hour.  It was an added bonus that enhanced the entire experience mainly because they didn't try to dominate the place, people were able to either continue with their own conversations or turn to watch.

I absolutely love this place.

Oh how I have loved N + ~ through the years (about 13 now), yeah, I was drinking long before I was legally allowed to.  This is the place I bring people that I truly like.  For one because it is great for one on one conversations & secondly cos it is great for the yummy tapas, sangria & vino.  It's a very narrow  joint that quickly gets crowded so get there early & stay late.  I am glad they recently (perhaps within the year) added a "dining" area.  Wednesdays are great for the live flamenco show which just completes the "Spanish" experience.  I like that the bathroom sink is out in the open so I can see and make ick faces at those piggies that don't wash their hands upon exiting the bathroom and then I spend the rest of the night trying to avoid them..... haha, I am kidding!  For fun, use the bathroom at the right.  The pendant light fixtures over the bars are unique.  Have never been let down by the service or their recommendations.  I will keep coming here forever and ever, long after I am in a walker.

Wasn't impressed with this place...have had better spanish tapas in the e-village.  The wine was about all I was interested in.  Food wasn't that good and not a huge selection..The place is small and I wasn't feeling it.  Too many other better places to go than here.

The food and service were not outstanding, but the atmosphere made up for it.  I love that it's in a hidden little alley with cobblestone streets and not much around.  I love the name N (ene).
We walked in and started to sit at the bar, then decided to see what was available in the back-it was a Tue night around 10ish, and not very crowded.  We then decided to go back up front to the bar.  There was now a reserved placard on the 2 seats we were going to take at the bar, so we had to sit at the far end.  Turns out these seats were for the bartender's friends whom she talked to and ate with the entire time we were there-hence the not great service.  Not cool.
My friend and I both got mojitos, they were good, but a little pricey, $9 I think.  It's a good thing the food was not so expensive.
We got the gazpacho which was really good.  It came in a drinking glass, so my friend and I just sipped out of it.  It was very cool and refreshing.  If I ever went back I would just get a couple of those.  We also had the olives, really you can't mess those up, so they were fine.  We also had the shrimp which I wasn't extremely fond of.  They were small and in a butter sauce-tasted frozen for sure.
I asked the waitress if the meatballs were good, she said she was a vegetarian and didn't know.  Offered nothing like-lots of people order it and they seem to like it, or not like it, etc.  Ok?  We also ordered a chicken dish that must not have been memorable because I can't remember it at all.  Overall food was OK, but it was inexpensive and we had a good time.  Better service would have made it outstanding.

The lit votives reflecting off the long copper-topped bar will beckon you to come inside, just as it did me when I happened by.  You'll think: what is this place?  The smiling couple in the only windowside table will clinch it for you.

Great setting to sit back with a friend and recupe after walking all afternoon or cozy up with a sweet babydoll so you can lean in and trade whispers.  Perfect for a late afternoon/early evening Saturday pick-me-up, or rather chill-me-out.

Prepare to do a lot of sideways mouth conversing.  At this early evening hour, seating is limited to either stools at the bar (there are actually two bars here in this tapas bar's rectangular layout), the one windowside table, or 2 bar tables (2-top and 4-top) each with a banquette nestled into a niche in the wall (genius).  Brick, copper, warm browns, candlelight, late afternoon sunshine.  I *believe* there is a rear section (the actual dining area) that opens up later in the evening.

These are tapas, here, folks so expect not large food.  Simple but good. Bar menu is sectioned into cold and warm and dessert tapas and average $5 a pop. The boquerones (anchovies in olive oil) were quite tasty and exactly as expected; the salad of snap peas, celery, and asparagus in black truffle oil was fresh, deceptively simple yet surprisingly very flavorful. Loved it.  Toasted bread (served impaled on a metal skewer?) to accompany.  Friendly and charming barstaff - ours had a lovely spanish accent and charming but kind of goofy way about her.  She was great.

Full bar, wine, housemade sangria (white).
Light music, the chatter of patrons, a flute of cava in hand, and your friend to take it all in with.

Aside from the additional room recently added on, this could win as one of the best most narrow bars of NYC! Tucked away on little ol' Crossby St. and, as mentioned, with few seats to score, one is lucky to even be there! It is adorable and charming and quite authentic in drinks (wide sherry selection, good Sangria) and in tapas ("hear hear" about the tortilla espanola, gambas are buenisimo too)...one would never know that the owners are Australian! Great with friends or on (first) dates. Me encanta!

A great spot tucked in this side street. Have patience, it will pay off. We arrived to meet 4 others and within 15 minutes the packed in crowd (even in the POURING RAIN) had moved on to their next spot. This enabled us to grab the front table in the window and graze over tapas and enjoy pitchers of sangria, glass of well made mojitos and some lovely bourbon.

why can't i do a tilda on yelp? lame.

this place is my fave bar in nyc. ok, i've only been to the big apple a few times, but i've returned loyally ever since we found it. it's small, intimate, convenient to shopping in soho, the tapas are crazy yummy, and the crowd is usually chill. vaya. i really can't ask for anything more.

bonuses: 1.) you can wash your hands at a sink made completely of colorful tiles. love it. and 2.) they serve a fizzy crema catalana in a martini glass. a crema catalana/martini glass combination? heaven is a place on earth.

Live flamenco music every Wednesday night from 8pm to 10pm.  Tapas galore- finally a good tortilla espanola.  At this dark, crammed, and cozy Andulucia-energized bar, you will find people smiling, voices singing, and hands clapping when they aren't too busy holding cups of sangria.

This place is a hang out first, restaurant second.  The tapas were good, but rather spartan (coquettas with no cream sauce?).  The mojitos are good, as is the atmoshere, but the seats at the bar are as spartan as the food -- an 8"x8" slab of wood atop wrought iron legs.  If your trunk has no junk, bring a pillow if you plan to sit for more than 10 minutes.  I do agree with Sarah B about the tortilla espanola -- is the place open for brunch?

This is a great midweek or late-night sangria destination. It's got a casual yet swanky vibe that makes for a good date spot. It's got a cool, local crowd so you'll avoid all of the East Village mayhem here. Drinks are somewhat expensive but go for the atmosphere.

Racism is alive and well and it lives here! I am a bi-racial multi-platinum record producer who just opened a studio down the street from this bar. I went there twice on the recommendation of a friend who just happens to frequent this bar and , for the point of this story , is white. The first time i went i went alone after working late. When i walked in the bar tender said" we're closing, but the person that i walked in two steps behind was able to order. I sorted of pointed that out and the bartender relented with a rude "ok what do you want?" I smiled and ordered a shot of Petrone. She questioned my ability to pay for it and suggested to me that this was a very expensive shot! Flabbergasted I said "WellI'll have two." She then asked me to show her my cash. "Are you for real?" i said. "Alot of people that look like you come in and order shots and they don't have the money" waas her reply. Now I've been all over the world and been in countless bars and not once has anything remotely like this happened. Some time passed and I was talked into going there by a female friend. Surely what happened the first time could never happen again right? Well we went in and sat at the bar. A rather stone face unfriendly gentleman( I use that term loosely) practically threw napkins and menus at us. And for the next 15 minutes did everything but take our order. He never acknowledged us. I saw people come in after us get seated, greeted with a smile and their orders taken. He would even walk back and forth in front of us preparing orders for customers after us. I decided I would just sit there to see how long this would go on. Even with ovetures made by my friend suggesting we'd like to order, we were never again acknowledged. Humiliated, I decided to leave regretting my second attempt at having a relaxing drink here. We walked out as we passed the server on our way out, he rolled his eyes in disgust at us and seemed to be relieved that we were leaving. Mind you, we were very respectful and civilized the entire time so as not to stoop to the level of these obviously small minded bigots. My suggestion to you readers? If you like your Tapas served with a bit of elitist racial hatred then this is your spot. They are really good at that!!! My friends who do frequent this place have assured me that they will stop. Life's too short to be a hateful idiot. But I guess even that is a step up for some-

Very Sincerely
