N&J has been a long time Mediterranean favorite of mine for decades. Look around and you'll notice a high proportion of Mediterranean diners, a sure sign you're in the right place.

The environment is easy and casual, but comes alive on Saturday nights when the belly dancers entertain. It's really quite festive and a lot of fun, especially for kids. The dancers work for tips, so take a few dollar bills with you.

Expect friendly and knowledgeable service, and feel free to ask if you don't know what something is. N&J is far from pretentious.

The adjoining market is small but has many items that aren't available in other grocery stores in the Wichita area, despite the city's unnatural affection for Mediterranean food (with thanks to Antoine Toubia and those who have followed in his footsteps).

I heard great reviews for N & J and it was slightly disappointing. I still was able to have a fairly good eating experience at N & J, although the service was a bit below average and the food was so so.

After reading a review for the grape leaves, I was excited to order it! After doing so, the grapes leaves never came and since I was already half full, decided not to worry about trying to get an order of it to the table. The chicken shawarma was not the best tasting dish I have had and was no where near in comparison to what you can get on the streets in New York and places in Brooklyn. In addition, the presentation was not up to par and disappointed me in that area as well. A pile of mush on a plate.

While my Greek salad and pita break and chips were a great addition, there is usually very little variation in this area. However, I am sure that there are different items on their menu that may have changed my rating. Since I'm not from the area, I will never have a chance to figure that out though.

The service is one reason for the low score. We had trouble waving down our waitress and she almost never came to check up on us. I never really felt comfortable at this place at all.

The bakery provided some nice delicious treats in their pistachio cookies and almond cookies which were very rich, but very good for those who like rich cookies.

This is my favorite Mediterranean Restaurant in Wichita!  The Hummus is a must!  The service is usually efficient, which is a plus.

Best Hummus in Wichita, hands down. I recommend the chicken schwarma, make sure you get the hummus and tabbouleh on the side. The grape leaves are a good appetizer.

If you go on the right night they feature live belly dancing!

We stopped in for dinner and enjoyed everything that came to the table.  I had the beef shawarma with hummus and tabouleh.  Yummz
Phili got the vegetarian plate which she couldn't finish but everything was awesome.
Everyone loved the spinach pie but I didn't.  Tomatoes tomahtoes.
Bottom line, check it out. They are the real deal.

Great food but the service can be very hit and miss. Some of the dishes are fantastic but there are a few poor performers in there. I'm not a big fan of their hummush but the Baba ghanoush is fantastic.

If you are in the area then it is a must eat but I don't go out of my way for N&Js.

What is it with this city and Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food? It seems like half the restaurants worth visiting have hummus on the menu, and if I see one more menu touting a "Fattoush salad" consisting of a plain garden salad with a pita in it, I'm going to rub feta in my eyes. Luckily, there actually are some authentic Middle Eastern restaurants in this town, and N&J ranks up there with the best of them.

I stopped by for lunch, so my experience was limited. I grabbed a Kafta sandwich (wrap). The menu described it as "ground beef," which is technically true, but it's actually a homemade sausage, which I hadn't realized (and wouldn't have ordered) until I saw it pictured on the menu.

I'm glad I opted to add some hummus and baba ganoush to my wrap, if only because it made the large plate on which my wrap was served seem less empty. It tasted good, too - particularly the baba ganoush, which provided just enough astringency from the eggplant to be interesting. The large basket of freshly-made pita and crackers came in handy for the dippin'.

I could see what others were talking about with regards to service, with my order taking noticeably longer than I would have liked. It wasn't outrageous, and I attributed it to the lunch crowd, so for me, N & J puts out the best Middle Eastern food by a large margin.

N & J has great food. I love love love the babaganouj, so let's get that out of the way.

I feel vindicated, though, in seeing that others have mentioned how horrible the service is at N & J. It seriously dampens my interest in going there despite that their food is generally quite good.

Just tonight, for example, we ordered a plate of baba before our food. So they bring the drinks and the baba surprisingly quickly. Well, we've barely started it when the rest of the order comes out and onto the table--we have to make room to set the main course off to the side so we can eat our appetizer. Not only is this obviously inconvenient, but the main courses will now sit there and get cold, plus they had absolutely no bones about letting us know the food was sitting back there in the fridge til they zapped it in the microwave for 30 seconds and whipped it on out to our table. In record time.

So, today, not slow for me at least (although in the past, I've had that too). Today, just absurdly fast and typically unpleasant (they usually just about grunt at you). Too bad. I saw a Yelp sticker on the door on my way out, so I was hoping they might read this: Hey, N & J people! Get your act together!! Outside of Il Vicino, you have the worst service in town!!!!

Too bad, because, again...the food is good!

The food here is definitely just OK. I ordered the Gyro plate and thought the meat was way too processed.  I get that it always is but it seemed like it had a lot of filler, not just beef and lamb.  The rice and vegetables were greasy as were the falafal which was really disappointing as I love falafal.  Didn't try any desserts but they looked delicious.  One positive is the market.  I purchased Orange Flower Water here which is very hard to find.  Might go back again and try something different but will try some other places first.

We were pretty hungry when we got to N & J's so we ordered a large plate of hummus and small plate of tabouli. We both ordered Chicken Shawarma which can be ordered with a choice of 2 of the following for $1.50: hummus, tabouli, and baba ganoush. Since we ordered the hummus and tabouli as starters, our shawarma's looked kind of lonely on the plates. But who cares, this was one of the best chicken shawarma's I've ever had. It beats the crap out of the last one I had at Bella Luna, and I really enjoyed that one. The hummus was also very delectable, but I would have to say I still prefer Bella Luna's hummus. The tabouli is new to me. I had it couple years ago and didn't hate it. It took some getting use to but I was very fond of it this time and would probably order it next time as well. Although next time I would get a sandwich with sides of hummus and tabouli. I'm not sure if its a common practice to mix the two together, but I did and loved it that way as well. The pita bread was also great and I loved the pita chips.

One other great thing about N & J Cafe is that they also have a market. We checked out the market after we ate and there were so many interesting things. I now know where to go for Mediterranean ingredients that can't be found at Dillons. I still wish I would have grabbed some pita bread while I was there as well. So, overall, if you couldn't tell by the glowing review, this place was great. There's not a 2 hour wait, the food is fresh and fast, and you can take home some pita bread and baklava when you are done. It also gets bonus points because there are no quesadillas or mozzarella sticks on the menu.

My parents brought me here one a Saturday afternoon. My Step Dad Persian so he favor towards middle eastern restaurants ( have no problem with that just as long as there is yummy food). Wichita doesn't have any Persian restaurants that we know about. But Lebanese is close enough. Its one of the better Lebanese restaurant in Wichita. The prices are reasonable. The place looks like an average diner.  Not really stand out  and say  Lebanese when u walk in. The service is a bit slow.  Its good but not really special. But the prices are reasonable.  I wouldn't go out of my way for this place but if I was near it and was hungry I would stop by for a bite.

I'm by no means a connisseur of greek cuisine, but olives + meat + feta cheese = good.  Yes, i know there is a lot more to greek fair than that, but i'm pretty simple and that's what i boil it down to.  This place is (in the timeless words of tony the tiger) GREAT!!! Gotta love hummus and pita, plus the baklava is honeylicious.  Yes, i said honeylicious.  The parking can be rough at times, but there are plenty of seats and the decor is comforting.  This is a good date spot and so far I've had no problems with the service (here's keeping my fingers crossed).  Plus any day you can say shawarma is a good day.  To conclude, if you have never eaten at N&J you really should give it a shot, who knows you may like it. Plus it's cheaper than going to greece.

I miss this place so much.  Whenever I'm back in Wichita, it's always my first choice for eating out.  The Lebanese food here is phenomenal.  I always order the combo plate appetizer.  Full of hummus, baba ganoush, kibbe, cabbage rolls, stuffed grape leaves, tabouleh, etc.  The shawarma is also excellent.  The food is always fresh and tasty.  Ever since I left Wichita, I've been searching for Lebanese restaurants that compare, none come close.  The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because the service can sometimes be slow, other than that, the food is always consistent and amazing!

Seriously 5 stars if it weren't for the slow, slow service. Sometimes they aren't the most friendly bunch eitiher. But whatevs. The food is awesome. The pita chips are fried to perfection and hummus melts in muh mouth. I can't get over the chicken shwarma wrap either. My friends and I lived off of this stuff in high school. We drove FAST to N&J's when we had half days to grab lunch. Don't expect a nice atmosphere. Do expect tasty and authentic Mediterranean food though. YUM!

Because I'm a fan of any place where, if you go often enough, they remember your name and always give you preferential treatment. My family started going here when I was but a wee 6th grader and now, nine years later, I still can't get enough of their...well, everything. A few of my favorites are: the combo plate (with baba, hummus=MOST YUMMUS in Wichita, falafel, tabouleh, etc.), cabbage rolls, kibbe and grape leaves.

Wonderful food that truly taps into the savory tastes of the Middle East. I haven't found anything on the menu that I don't like. I recommend the Dolmas which they call Vegetarian Grape Leaves ($4.50) dipped in labneh as an appetizer. The hummus ($6 small, $7.50 large) is awesome too! If you have a group of four to six, the best appetizer is the Vegetarian Combo - Hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouli, vegetarian grape leaves, falafel, feta cheese & kalamata olives - $9.95. This will be served with their freshly made pita bread either unfried triangles or fried into crunchy chips.

I have had the Gyro (oven roasted lamb with tahini) both as a sandwich wrapped in pita and over their wonderful herb rice served with vegetables ($9.50). I also enjoyed their falafel in a pita wrap and their chicken artichoke sandwich. Sandwich wraps range in price from $5.50 for the Gyro and Falafel to $6.50 for the Chicken Artichoke. Ask for extra tahini sauce - I do, I can't get enough of the delicious god's nectar!

The Chicken Kabab entree is LARGE and yummy - two kababs of cubed grilled marinated chicken taopped with tahini sauce severed with their signature rice and sauteed vegetables! It was delicious and only $11.25 - what a deal!

The most expensive item on the menu is the Mixed Grill which comes with chicken, steak, kafta, rice and veggies and it is only $13.50.

This is a very mellow and casual eatery with a relaxed environment. This isn't a rush rush kind of place, it is a sit back and enjoy yourself in savory delight kind of place.

Do NOT miss dessert. Save room if you must and take half your meal home with you. The cheesecake is unbelieveably good as is the taramizu. They have this lemon cake thing that has wonderful icing and red raspberry's - it reminds me of cake and of cheesecake. It's like cheesecake and cake got together and had a delicious tasting child of their union!

Also - there is a middle eastern grocery attached to the restaurant where they sell their own hummus and fresh made daily pita bread. You can find things here that you cannot find anywhere else in Wichita for the taste and price! The baklava is inexpensive and delicious in pecan, almond, and pistascio! They also have delicious cookies perfect for dipping in coffee or milk.

Word of warning - if you don't like strong coffe, stay away from the Turkish coffee - super thick, and by all means, dear god, DON'T stir it. It may look like mud, it is, but the taste is unique and must be tried at least once.

Open Monday through Saturday 10 to 9; closed Sundays.

I gotta say, this place is sooo good. My friend Cathi introduced me to this place (after they stopped chain-smoking in there), and I have loved it ever since. We do often order our dinners "to-go" and they are generous with the pita chips that they enclose to go with the hummus, which is de rigeur. Shawarma is fabulous, gyros are scrumptious!  Tabouleh is fresh and tasty, too.
Very impressed with the food here.

I love and hate this place at the same time.  While N&J's serves the best Mediterranean food I have ever had, they typically serve up some of the slowest service I have ever had with it.  Really, I wouldn't put up with that kind of service from any restaurant, but the great food keeps bringing me back.  Just a couple suggestions if you do go, don't finish your drink too quickly because you likely won't see your waitress after the food is served.  If you absolutely have no tolerance for bad service, get it to go.

Yum! We were visiting family in Wichita when we decided to stop and have lunch at N & J Bakery. My boyfriend's mom is Lebanese so we've had our share of Mediterranean cuisine - this little place ranks at the top! Our vegetarian appetizer which sampled your basics, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, tabouleh, and falafel tasted great. Our sandwiches followed up nicely, but I enjoyed the appetizer more. Anyway, we topped it all off with a heavenly piece of baklava. I encourage Nicholas and Johnny to open one of these babies up in Denver.

    excellent food with excellent service.

I was absolutely thrilled that this food was so good because I never expected to get superior Mediterranean food in the middle of Wichita Kansas.

We arrived at 8pm and when we left at 8:55pm it was refreshing to see that they still had their open sign on. (they close @ 9)

We were served promptly and there was hardly any wait for food. The server while soft spoken was very polite and attentive without being over barring. She never let our drinks run dry. She also ensured that we were happy with our food.

We received a basket (quite large) of pita chips and pita bread.

We got the Vegetarian plate which consisted of one falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, tabouli, feta cheese, yogurt, and some olives. The baba ganoush was very tasty and it tasted like they actually grilled their eggplant.

We also order the Chicken shawarma sandwich and the beef kebab plate.

I was not a big fan of the Chicken shawarma because I thought the chicken was a little bit dry and that there was way too much sauce that tasted a like mayo, and I know that these are served in twisted aluminum foil, I had to pick the foil out of the cut section before eating. Perhaps this would have been better if I had asked for it with the sauce on the side.

The beef kebab plate was really yummy and to our surprise actually came with a salad. I would get it again.

Upon checkout I couldn't resist picking up a baklava or two which they make fresh.

They also have a little store to pick up any ingredients for Mediterrean cooking.

I completely agree with Ryan L.  I too love and hate N & J's.  They have the best Mediterranean food in town hands down, but if any restaurant could meet & or exceed them in taste I'd never step foot in N & J's again.  I'd rate them a 4 out of 10 on service.  I usually have really slow service, drinks never get refilled, they usually only come back to bring you your check after you get your food.  I've been eating here about 10 years and I've never had an great service experience.  If it wasn't for the food being so fantastic. Their chicken shawarma, hummus, baba ghanouj, kebbe balls, my favorite the grape leaves all amazing at good prices.  The Grocery store is also a pro.  The chicken shawarma is $4.95 add hummus & tabouli for $1.5 more.  A plate of hummus for $3.25 It's good food at a good price.  Thankfully they have take out.  Also the parking situation is horrible.  It can get very busy at lunch and difficult to find a parking spot or get around in the tiny parking lot.
