Sunday Evening Dinner. Seated quickly. not crowded. little expensive. We had the Saganaki as an app which was very good, although flamed in the kitchen which is kinda sad. For an entree I had the Pistachio (spelling?), as recommended by our waitress (who was very nice). it was a little bland for my tastes, and i really wish i had ordered the braised lamb. but oh well. My girl-friend hd the tiger shimp. the shimp were big, served in a tomato sauce and Rice Pilaf. She gave me a taste and it was nothing special. the sauce tasted like something i had had before. Over all it was a nice place and i will give it another try.
Just had dinner there last night. I had a good time. Granted it was Tuesday so it wasn't crowded but there were plenty of other people there. 5 of us had a long leasurely meal there.
The decor is really lovely. I LOVE the bench seating along the blue walls. The tables are split between 2 dining rooms. I imagine it keeps it from getting loud when it's busy. The low lighting is nice and the service was excellent. They weren't pushy but attentive. One of my fellow diners has a crush on the hostess. He couldn't get over the hot grandma.
The bread and the garlic butter was really good. They don't have a huge menu but what we did order was really nicely done. It's a pretty traditional menu. It's definitely the place for grilled meat and there aren't many vegetarian entrees.
I had the filet medallions. WOOOH they were perfectly seasoned and perfectly medium rare with the pretty criss-cross grill marks. I do have to say that the entree portions are perfect if you have appetizers and dessert.
I will definitely be back soon.
Delicious! Very friendly hostess and service was much much faster than my friend and I expected based on friends' experiences. The traditional Greek salad was super-tasty, the calamari was very crisp and not greasy and the spanokopita was rich and yummy. We chose a meat dish that I wasn't too fond of, but I just chose badly. The appetizers are pretty large, so we ended up ordering three and along with the generously sized salad, it was all enough to make us very full on the way out. I will definitely return and try their main entrees.
Delicious food, great service and byob- what more can you ask for?
A group of us went on a weeknight, we shared a super fresh salad of cukes, tomatoes, onions and feta- as well as spanakopita and the flaming cheese. All of the appetizers were really tasty- and they staggered the delivery of each perfectly. For the entree, I had the chicken dish (there are 2, I had the one that is NOT the 1/2 chicken) and it was cooked to perfection and served w/a veggie and a starch. We didn't save any room for desert, but the next table did- and it looked really good.
I definitely recommend this place for the food and the service- they were very helpful and attentive.
Wonderful! We went to Mythos late on a Friday night and had delicious saganaki, a cheesy dish with amazing crusty bread, calamari and an amazing salad. The service was attentive and perfect. The atmosphere is ideal - cool blue walls, candles, simple decor and big windows. Corkage fee was $5 which works with the low-priced food.
We just tried apps and a salad. That completely filled us up.
Mythos is wonderful! Yay for excellent Greek food in Ravenswood!
What a lovely time I had at Mythos. OK so food was closer to 3.5 stars but the whole experience warrants the 4-star rating. Our server was the most adorable little boy that looked to be about 16 years old. I'm sure he was older. He was wise beyond his years and handle us perfectly. It was my sister, my niece and me; we can be a tough group. The room was surprisingly charming with wood accents and the walls painted the prettiest blue.
We started with the Taramosalata which was tart with lemon and outstanding on the warmed crusty bread. We also shared the Horiatiki salad which was also very tasty with great tomatoes that can be hard to find outside of the summer months. For my entree I had the Psaronefri - marinated filet of pork tenderloin cooked with hand grounded peppercorns, mountain rosemary & course sea salt & served with our own homemade mustard sauce. And we ended with the Galaktoboureko. The pork came with the best potatoes and string beans. Almost everyone around us ordered the Pastichio which looked amazing.
One last point - while the place wasn't full, there were a number of tables filled and it was still easy to carry on a conversation. For all you drinkers, it is BYOB, but they do charge a corkage fee.

How nice to have a Greek BYOB in the neighborhood.
I think I met the entire family that runs the place the Friday I was here. They are very friendly people. From the daughter that greets you at the door to the owner who floats around checking that everything is right, you can see they have a lot of heart for this place. And the wait staff is just as friendly.
The food is also excellent. Everyone I dined with was very happy with their choices. The menu is pretty traditional fair, but its all made very well. I was told their spices are brought from Greece by the owners' mother. And while that doesn't really impress me, I can confirm the spices used in my dish were of good quality and used properly. Tasty stuff. It should be noted that they flame the saganaki in the kitchen, so don't order it try and impress a date with fireworks. You'll have to do that through old fashioned conversation.
I am currently holding a star off because I went on a busy Friday night and it was a long evening. Their kitchen was backed up and so our food came out slowly. It wasn't a big deal though, as we had three bottles of wine and a relaxed attitude. Mythos did however wave our corkage fee and give us two free desserts. Both of which were fantastic.
In reading the other reviews, people are saying that the owners came across as pretentious. I find this amusing, as when I walked in they offered to check my coat and through the rest of the evening were very jovial and friendly. I guess your mileage may vary.

This place is right down the street for me, which is dangerous because I'm a fanatic about my Greek food. I took my girlfriend there to check it out on a Thursday night (weeknights are always the best time to try a new restaurant) and was completely impressed. Just some background on myself in this category, I've worked at one of the top Greek places in Manhattan as well as a small family owned restaurant in the village of Limni on Evia in Greece. I know my way around Greek food.
The appetizer menu is enough to keep you satisfied, although I went for personal favorites with the Loukaniko and kolokythakia. They have both spanikopita and tyropita which I'd like to try next time, as well as numerous spreads. Everything appears to be homemade with care. The loukaniko was not too greasy as many places seem to prepare it, and had a nice flavor. Apparently it's specially made for them.
We moved on to the main course and the simple fact that they had soutzoukakia just sealed the deal for me. Perfect seasoning, perfectly prepared, the sauce was outstanding. She had the pastichio, which came out personally prepared with the right hinting of cinnamon. It was thick and creamy as it should be, and even warranted enough for leftovers. It made me feel like I was back on the island, homemade with care, fresh ingredients, only the best!
The crew working there knows their stuff, although the waiter was a little slow at times, although I think because of the Thursday night he was the only man on board which is completely understandable. The owners know their stuff, and I sat down and spoke with them for a very long time. They're open, friendly, just great people. They made me feel right at home.
Although some might see this as pricey, I feel it's worth it. We paid $55ish for two appetizers and two entries which were fantastic. BYOB, so remember to stop and pick up a nice malagousia and your set.
The newest best Greek restaurant in Chicago. Located on the north side in a very upscale neighborhood. We have already dined there several times and loved it. Every item on the menu is authentic Athenian cuisine and very unique. The atmosphere is exceptionally warm and inviting. Unlike any other Greek restaurant you might visit. Two sisters run this new taverna and they are eager to please their customers. Pricing is moderate. BYOB is the word for this place. What a great idea! Take a walk or a ride and try it out yourselves. You won't regret it. You'll go back for seconds. Trust us!

We went here for dinner on a Friday night after friends who live in the neighborhood raved about the food and the owner. WOW! I don't think very highly of Greek food as a rule, but this food was AMAZING! My husband and I shared a salad, I had the lamb and he ordered the half chicken. The lamb was very good, but the chicken was outstanding. The feta on the salad was also incredibly fantastic and yummy. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly, the decor and atmosphere were perfect, and by the time we left at 7:30pm, it was completely packed.
This wasn't a cheap meal (our bill came to around $45 for the salad and 2 entrees), but I would definitely come back because the food and dining experience were worth what we paid for it.

On the plus side, the owner/hostess is charming and attentive to her customers. Unfortunately this restaurant is one of the those small charming restaurants that breaks down when it's busy. We went with a group of 10 on a Friday night, and the service was broken, inconsistent and slow slow slow. If we go back, we will pick a more quiet night.
Food was ok, but it doesn't replace Halsted for me. I had the pork tenderloin which was flavorful but overcooked. The chicken regenate is a traditional preparation, but it took 45 minutes. The garides probably should stay as an appetizer - not entree. I was surprised that they do not do greek coffee, which I love, but instead they have espresso. Lastly, Mythos is not Greek Town. The prices are more expensive and the portions smaller. No left overs for our group.
Had high hopes for this new Greek Restaurant in our local neighborhood. But alas, our first (and likely last) visit was extremely dissappointing. To begin with, we arrived early on a Friday night (6:15pm). Despite a nearly empty restaurant, owner/hostess was pretentious about it being a busy night (though she did have a party of 15 which arrived about 45 mins. later), still it was obvious she had only a few other reservations, and many walk-ins came after us and got same "attitude". Next dissappointment, they were OUT OF their signature dish -- Braised Lamb (that we really wanted even before we got there). How can a Greek Restaurant not have Braised Lamb (esp. a "signature dish")??? As for alt. of ordering Lamb Chops -- way too overpriced at $28 (and, table next to us ordered it later, which we saw were thinly sliced, and appeared overcooked). Next dissappointment, the Sagnaki is not brought out to table and "flamed" (they claim to flame in kitchen - dubious as no taste of brandy) and no fun. We ordered the Roasted Greek Chicken, and a dish that was described as ground beef and lamb. The latter, were like 3 small hamburgers, and were grossly undercooked (even after we complained and it was brought back to the kitchen for re-cooking, it was still dangerously raw in the middle). As for the Chicken, very salty and no "greek" seasoning could be tasted. Egg Lemon Rice soup that accompanies all entrees, was blande and had almost no lemon taste. Veggie side were baby june peas that tasted 'canned'. What happened to Okra or eggplant as a greek side (not even available on menu). The biggest dissappointment -- despite being the earliest customers to arrive and place our order, our main dishes did not arrive at our Table until 7:45 -- 1 1/2 hours after we ordered!!! Outrageous. Highly unlikely we will be back. P.S. I know and love Greek Food & Greeks - even honeymooned in Greece. Perhaps that's why I'm being very generous to give this place 2 Stars. One has to wonder about the credibility of the 5-Star Raters -- for those familiar with Yelp, it's easy to spot the probable 'fake' reviews (i.e. owner or friends). See other earlier "genuine" Yelp Reviewer by Cathy C. Bottom Line: NOT RECOMMENDED.

Food is quite good (although several things have already fallen off the menu, the potato pancakes, yogurt with honey for dessert...bummer). Prices are a little high for a neighborhood BYOB boite ($29 for lamb chops although there are many cheaper options). Portions for entrees are generous but appetizers are pretty small. Attitude from the owners felt slightly disingenuous (we came in early on a Friday with kids, she kept making comments about things like how much bread they were eating which made everyone feel uncomfortable, especially when we laid out 29 bucks for lamb chops.) I wouldn't take the kids back but I'd go back myself. Good crowds which may be what's throwing them off so early in the game). But to keep it up I think they'll have to tinker with some things (menu, prices, a more authentically welcoming atmosphere...). I live in the neighborhood and am very conscious of supporting local businesses so I hope it works out and they stick around! Great to have Greek food without having to schlep downtown.
