I went to Myo Massage specifically because they offer myofacial release and seem to have an indepth understanding of sports injuries. Tara, my masseuse, did not disappoint.
The night before I threw my back out doing some wacky straight leg, snatch grip, deadlift (don't ask). I literally was up all night in pain because I could not get comfortable lying down.
The next morning I fell out of my bed and crawled to my cell phone and scheduled a massage with Myo Massage at the Triangle. I will admit I was a bit put off for having to put down a credit card at first, but I guess it's not that big a deal in retrospect.
One thing that I have never seen before, Myo Massage asks you what kind of music you would like to listen to do during your massage. I guess not everyone wants to listen to "Paradise City" when they're getting their massage..weird.
I digress. Tara was "very pregnant" when she got me in the room (due the middle of November), which made me a little worried, but man, that gal is strong! It felt like she was channeling the strength of two when she was working out my psoas.
Anyways, long story short, my massage was therapeutic, so maybe not the most relaxing (which is what I wanted). That very same day I felt so much better. Seriously. Tara worked wonders on my back. She even showed me a couple of stretches that helped with my recovery.
Overall, fantastic experience. While the massage was not cheap, it was totally worth it. -

I 've probably had over 100 massages over my lifetime and Heidi is without a doubt one of the most talented masseuses I've ever experienced. She is very strong, her hands are confident, and her technique is masterful.
I rolled into town with a creaky body after driving cross county. After a 90 minute massage i was, to my amazement, pain free and feeling so so relaxed. This was one of the highlights of my trip. Thank you, Heidi. You are exceptional at what you do! -

This is the sort of the place that asks for your credit card first.
For them, it seems it's all about your money, not you.
Also, the fact that nearly 100% of these reviews are 5-star is something that basically doesn't happen when the reviews are genuine. There are always people who have misgivings, no matter how great a business is, and that they are not shown here is something to wonder about.Comment from Catherine C. of Myo Massage 10/11/2011

I am doing a lot of treatment after an accident, so visiting Austin I wanted to see someone for pain management. It was great- not only was he gentle with my really swollen injured areas, but he did kinetic taping- amazing! It took some pressure off my muscles, letting them relax and helping me function closer to normal.

I came to Myo on recommendation from my doctor-- due to a knee injury, some minor surgery and a broken foot, I had to take some time off of my usual fitness and training routines. When I started feeling better, scar tissue plus just being inactive combined to severely restrict my usual flexibility and range of motion. I also had swelling and fluid retention.
Myo is located in the Triangle, near Mama Fu's and right across from the ample, free parking garage. (Yay, car will be cool when I come out!) When I arrived (15 minutes early) I was given a very thorough form to fill out (as many have commented) asking all kinds of detailed questions about my daily routines, what kind of problems I was having, musical tastes, preferences for oil/lotion etc. Based on my specific issues, the owner of Myo herself (Katherine, sp?) decided to take me instead of the masseuse previously assigned to my time slot, because Katherine does deep tissue work as well as lymph massages, which was apparently what I needed.
I'll be honest, deep tissue and lymph are totally different kinds of massage and I didn't know how well they'd go well together. Lymph massages are very gentle and soothing, hardly any pressure at all. Deep tissue/myo fascial release work is 180 degrees from that. Katherine does a great job on both. Getting a myo fascial massage is kind of like being hit by a truck AND taking a good nap-- it can be painful in the moment, but when it's over you feel fantastic. I am seeing improvements in my range of motion, thank goodness. I did two massages at full price, then gave in and bought a package, reducing my hour price from $80 to something like $67. Prices are going up on August 1 by $5/hr I believe, but even then it would be worth it.
Katherine is very knowledgeable and doesn't have any problems explaining exactly what she's doing, what she's looking for, and what progress she is observing. It's nice to have someone who can explain and teach, not just "do." She's very professional, I have never felt a bit weird, even when she is working on my upper hamstrings and my adductors, two pretty personal places for me at least. I also like that she gives me a glass of filtered water afterwards and encourages me to drink more water.
I highly recommend Myo and Katherine! :) -

So happy I made an appointment over at Myo Massage! My therapist was very skilled and had some great information, when I starting asking maintenance questions regarding my therapy issues.
The staff is very nice, they give you paperwork to complete that includes what music you would like to hear during your visit, whether you want oil/lotion and if you would like it scented or un scented. They really do everything they can to make your visit the most professional and enjoyable. I refer this Massage Therapy to everyone!
And the prices are really comparable, not to mention the amazing package deals they have. I cannot wait to get back over there! -

FRAUD on Credit Card due to Myo Massage! So today I am going through my account and I see Myo Massage charged my credit card TWICE for different amounts. Really?!?! I don't know who they have working there or what their scam is but stealing your credit card number and then charging unauthorized charges is the way Myo Massage works. Now I have had to call my bank, cancel my card, wait for a new card and file forms of fraudulent charges! Unbelievable!!! Stay Away if you value your credit card number!!!

I've gone to Myo 3 times now with three different therapists (but the two with the most notable strokes are Colby and Heidi)...My visits to Myos include: once for a normal Swedish, once for a sports massage/deep tissue after a half marathon and once for a regular deep tissue to reward myself for getting back into my work routine (yay me).
Myo is certainly a great place to get a massage, the prices are decent, the rooms clean and fresh, they use professional/proper draping techniques, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Pricing is reasonable for the caliber of work and I always leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and with all the kinks out.
Myo massages are very personalized, from the amount of pressure, to temperature, to the type of music that you would like to listen to. The masseuses are chatty if you're inclined or keep to their work if otherwise. Myo doesn't have that serenity oasis feeling that Milk and Honey or other spas evoke, but it boasts really great quality and reasonably priced backwork. Parking can be a bit of a pain in the butt around 5-7, so get there a bit early. I'll definitely be back. -

I've been greedy and resistance to share info about Myo, but it's only fair that I share. Myo provides the most skilled massage therapists and the best massage therapy that I have ever experienced - especially if you are looking for therapeutic massage and not just fluff. They are not like some places that list several types of massage (modalities), but really only offer some version of Swedish or deep tissue. I even tried Ashiatsu at Myo, and it was AMAZING.
The environment is calming and comfortable. Parking is easy and free in the garage. The owners are very nice. I've been to Myo many times (over 20) and the experience has always been perfect. I've been to many spas in Austin and found great spots to relax and get pretty, but Myo is now the only place that I visit for therapeutic massage and bodywork. I really can't say enough about Myo.
I am so glad that I found Myo Massage! -

Ever since I hit the point in my pregnancy when I had to sleep on my side, my back has been all sorts of jacked up. I started begging my husband for back rubs every night and using my massage chair for well over the manufacturer recommended 20-minute daily limit. Finally, when my back started seizing up at work, I called Myo Massage.
I told the friendly receptionist that I was pregnant and wanted someone to focus on my upper back/shoulder blades, and she recommended Paula (who herself is pregnant and equally far along as I am). I showed up for my appointment and filled out some pretty detailed paperwork that went into topics from my medical history to the type of music I want to hear during my massage.
Paula was a miracle worker. She did exactly what I asked for, which was focus on my shoulder/upper back problem areas. She cleared up my knots, took special care to avoid aggravating my medical issues (specifically, psoriasis -- yuck!), and left me with some helpful exercises to help stretch my normally knotty spots. Granted, the only "professional" massage I'd had prior to this was a shady one in Taiwan that cost about $10 USD, but ever since my trip to Myo, I've really felt rejuvenated and empowered. I'm certainly glad my back's doing better, but now I'm hoping I can have an excuse to head back for another session with Paula! -

I reserve 5-star ratings for those that I truly feel are as good as it gets. I found it here!
Deborah Marasco performs techniques on me that no massage therapist has ever done before. I suffer from horrendous migraines (questionably Fibromyalgia) that tighten the muscles of my upper body, (i.e. head, face, neck, shoulders, and upper back), which is sometimes more agonizing than the headache itself. I've had massages in the past, gone to physical therapy as well as seen a chiropractor, and taken a half dozen different migraine medications, but nothing has given me the relief quite like a massage from Deborah. She focuses on my scalene and trap muscles, and does this amazing little trick pulling the ears, which releases tension from the face. I could seriously cry trying to explain how helpful they are and how grateful I am, especially since it is clear that she really cares and is passionate about what she does.
Myo Massage also deserves 5 stars because they keep their prices reasonable; $65 for a Swedish massage and $75 for a therapeutic massage. I certainly can't afford to go as often as I'd like, but as long as they keep their costs in that range, I hope to visit once a month.
The facility is clean and lovely; you can help yourself to tea or water while you wait, and their questionnaire even asks you if you have a preference on the kind of music you'd like played during your session. Greatness all around, but the long and the short of it is that I leave not only feeling relaxed but feeling better. -

I've come here a few times for sports massages and deep tissue massages to alleviate back pain. I've received massages from many of the female therapists, and they are all top-notch. Though they're not as cheap as some of the massage places in town (or groupon specials), I've found that you get what you pay for. Myo is consistently superior to many of the cheaper places I've tried in Austin. One of the nice touches is that you have some input on the music that plays. Each room has its own mp3 player, so if you really hate celtic flute music, fear not! It's easy to get an appointment, and sometimes I've even been able to get one on the same day.

My experience was awesome.
My massage therapist, Barton, gave me the best massage I think I've ever had. I prefer male masseurs as I like very firm to deep massages, and I like broader pressure. Barton was great, he listened to what I needed to have worked on, and didn't fuss about with things that I didn't want done. It was so relaxing, and invigorating. I feel great!
I also had a facial immediately after with Shelly, who did a wonderful job, and also gave me some great pointers about some new products I should try out. I'll definitely be taking her advice :)
My first trip will not be my last!!! Really great experience. -

Myo is awesome. I have gone here for stress relief, computer-related repetitive motion shoulder issues, and once to help me with a full-on back injury.
I have been very happy with my therapists' communication and intuitive understanding of my needs. Every time I go here, I learn something new about how to treat my body better.
The atmosphere is calming, quiet, and private. -

Alright Triangulars, take notes:
Brimm will do you some deep tissue like nobody's business. Don't say I didn't warn you because you just might almost be in tears by the time you leave. He honestly has a special gift to be able to accomplish this yet still have the most nurturing approach I have encountered.
Deborah M. is in tune to the nth degree to you. She told me some things about my 5' 9" stressed self that even after many massage therapists and boo-coos of massages I still didn't know - in part because no one had told me and in part because I think she is THAT talented when it comes to the human body.
Catherine and Levi are extremely accommodating and simply lovely people. Myo is magically relaxing and even though it's in the busy Triangle you will still be whisked away.Listed in: ZZZZzzzzzzz, No Droopin' Booty ...

This was my first visit to Myo, my first full body massage and my first couple's massage.
Upon arriving we were asked to fill out a form that ranged from room temperature preferences to music type, and what areas of my body I didn't want worked on.
(On a side note, the form took 5 min, not 15 and the room isn't exactly soothing. I would have preferred to have a more "spa like atmosphere" if I'm going to be there for so long.)
The massage was great. My therapist was great with addressing my concerns before the massage. My husband liked his as well. However, we were both surprised that there was no follow up after.
All in all, the massages were good, the price was good and the staff was very accommodating. I would recommend this place to others. -

Myo is awesome!
It's little difficult to see Myo from the street. It's on the side of the building facing the railroad tracks. The waiting area has comfortable chairs and is quiet. Their questionnaire is two-sided and takes a while to complete, but the questions (like "do you prefer a warmer or cooler room?" and "what type of music do you prefer?") really are designed to make sure you get the best experience possible.
I'd scheduled my boyfriend and I at the same time for a couples massage, so we were both in the same room. It's pretty tiny but that's more of a problem for the therapists who have to maneuver around both tables. The lighting is nice and the music system sounds good. I can't remember the names of either of our therapists but both of us were very pleased with our massages.
I'll definitely be back. -

Oh-myo
So I am the sensitive type, and I purchased a couples massage for my girlfriend and I a few weeks back. After a full day of bike-riding around Austin, we realize that Myo's location was alot farther than we anticipated. I called Myo and I hesitantly tried to cancel my appointment since we were going to be 30 minutes late. The crew at Myo were very understanding and offered to wait 30 extra minutes for us to arrive. Once we arrived, they greeted us with water, towels, and smiles.
After we dried off, my girl and I were placed in a small room with candles and mood music. The 2 massage therapists entered the room and gave us both 5 star massages. Hands, feet, back, neck, you name it. Great service, and superb massages! I will return. -

Nowhere in Maslow's hierarchy of needs does it say anything about massage therapy, but I personally think it ought to sneak its way in there, maybe in the middle of the pyramid, or somewhere at the bottom, right between "food" and "water." But that's just me.
That said, I've been to my fair share of day spas and relieved (probably more than) my fair share of tension on massage tables throughout the greater southeastern United States - it's a healthy vice I'm willing to pay for. I just moved to Austin a few weeks ago and needed to undo some of the havoc I've wreaked on myself through driving 14 hours from Florida, sleeping on an air mattress for two weeks, living out of a suitcase, and eventually unpacking box after box. No small feat, right?
Well, Courtney at Myo's eastside location in Saltillo Lofts didn't seem to think so. She had me blissed out and practically talking backwards in one hour's time.
I loved, loved, loved the fact that they offered a checklist of different types of music choices. Want some African beats? You bet. Feel like throwing back to the 90s for some Moby or reaching even further for some jazz standards? Comin' right up. You can take your Enya and "nature-scape" CDs and shove 'em. Or, hey, if that's your thing, you can listen to that lady warble her way through 90 minutes of Celtic nonsense with water faeries and frogs urping right alongside her. Whatever you want. It's your world. For that alone, this place gets five stars.
The space is unpretentious and soothing, with a light-blue-&-chocolate-brown color scheme and little round IKEA rugs scattered throughout to soften the otherwise industrial feel of the building. Prices are ridiculously reasonable for a place this professional with service this thoughtful. From now on, I'll be relieving my tension here on a monthly basis. -

Five stars for several reasons (I'm reviewing the Triangle location):
They fit me in on Labor Day when I called that morning. This is despite the fact that there were tons of physical events in Austin that weekend.
Cecily, my therapist, communicated extremely well and just right. Didn't talk too much, didn't talk too little. She asked everything that was appropriate to ask.
Cecily also has the best technique of anyone I've ever had work on me. I was so relaxed afterwards, and all of the pain and soreness I experienced for a 10K the day before were long gone after I left Myo.
The facilities are very calming, pleasant, and minimalist. It's a classy place without being snooty.
I can't wait to come back. Their prices are also $5-10 cheaper than anything else in Austin.
Best massage I've ever had in my life. -

A-MA-ZING structural massage!
After hearing stellar comments about Myo Massage from a co-worker, I really wanted a slice of tension relief of my own. I had a brief consultation to figure out what type of massage was best suited for me. Since I had soreness in specific places, they suggested a structural massage to help alleviate those problem areas.
At Myo you can request the use of lotion, oil, balm (depending on the type of massage) or opt out. Katie, my massage therapist also used a balm instead of oil, which I really appreciated because I always feel sticky and gross with oils.
After asking a couple of questions, she put her magic to work. Wow, talk about impressive techniques and hitting EXACT tension points in my neck, shoulders, and upper back. They really do more than just relieve stress here. I felt like I could move freely again without experiencing any pain. I will definitely be visiting again!
Remember to drink plenty of water after your massage! -

Colby was great- found all the knots, aches and pains and firmly made them surrender.
Table was comfortable, and Colby was accomodating in my bad habit of wanting to chatter on while receiving a massage.
Definitely worth the visit. Great front desk customer service as well. -

For my husband and my one year anniversary, my mother got me a very special gift. She got her, my sister and me all massages at Myo.
I had never been to this location before but it was much improved from my memory of their east side location.
Upon arrival, we were greeted promptly and the three of us were escorted to our own private room to relax, drink water and for my sister to fill out the extensive health history questionnaire (she was the only one who hadn't been there before). I really appreciated this touch. It was much more relaxing than having to wait in their small, front entry.
When we made the reservation, it was on short notice and although we asked for all female massage therapists we were told that one of us would most likely get a male. That's fine. It was our fault for scheduling late. We were just all thankful to be able to get in and have it be at the same time. However, Myo listened to my request and must have done some switcheroos with other more flexible clients because the three of us each got women.
I was assigned Cecily. Initially, I thought that I wanted a Swedish, relaxation massage but after talking to Cecily for a bit about her specialties, I decided to just "let her do her thang." I told her to do whatever type she liked. She ended up doing a combination of shiatsu, Thai and yogic massage. It wouldn't exactly say it was a relaxing experience, but it was interesting. In the future, I'm not sure that I would ask for that type of massage again, but I'm glad I tried it.
I can't speak for my mother or my sister, but they both expressed that they felt that they had competent therapists and an enjoyable experience.Listed in: On My Quest for Beauty, Great Places I've Discovered…

So I found myself in Austin under very stressful circumstances and had been having some pretty crazy back tension the month or so leading up to my visit. It didn't help that I was cooped up for hours in what could be likened to a US military "stress position" on the flight there.
Obviously I was in desperate need of a good massage therapist but hadn't booked anything in advance. I took a glance at the paper and saw some pretty dubious and downright scary ads, decided to Yelp and found Myo. I called and was able to make an appt the same day which was awesome.
Catherine was my therapist, she was over at the hotel on time and took a good history. The massage was very good; not excellent, but it was the first time she had worked on me. I think subsequent massages would be even better after she got to know the particulars of my back/body.
Overall, solid massage by a knowledgeable therapist, not a whole lot else you can ask for! Would definitely go to her again if I was in Austin. -

I have been here twice and had really good massages both times from female therapists. This last time I went I got the Milky Way which is a 30 min soak in an amazing jacuzzi tub followed by a 1hr massage. Definitely relaxing. The only problem I have is that the second therapist overstepped her boundaries a bit. While she did a great job on the massage, I dont think that I should ever feel uncomfortable during a session.....this is also coming from an ex-massage therapist.

My fiance' and I went to Myo for a couples massage and whirlpool.
It was my very first massage, so I do not have much to compare it to. I asked for a deep tissue, and while it could have been deeper, it was very relaxing. My fiance' loved hers.
My main complaint was that only half of the jets in the whirlpool were working, and after notifying the front desk, they did nothing to remedy the situation, nor did they offer any compensation.
Other than that, it was a great experience for the both of us! -

I love Myo! Well, for the most part. They're at a new location at the Triangle now - better parking (a free garage right across the street), and they're right next to Chado (which also moved from down on Bee Caves). The space looks great; I was skeptical about the move, but it's really turned out nice.
I see Katie for structural bodywork and she is THE BEST. That's sort of the end of the story. She knows her shit and does a great job.
The prices here are really reasonable when you compare the quality to other places. I would say, though, that if you're experiencing actual body pain (as opposed to just wanting a relaxing massage) save up for a 30 minute session. The first time I went I had a 15 minute chair massage, which was just long enough to wake up my messed-up muscles and make 'em scream for a month afterwards. Ouch! NB: this chair massage was not with Katie.
I do have one small complaint about Myo - whoever answers the phone is not a joy to talk with. I hate talking to people on the phone - irrational quasi-phobia - and the woman who answers is very, very quiet. There are a lot of long pauses wherein she doesn't tell me what she's doing and I'm just kinda... hanging there... waiting for her to start talking again. And the general tone of these calls isn't friendly. The atmosphere is very nice once you get there, but the chill on the phone always makes me a little cranky about having to call. -

For a friend's birthday, I wanted to treat her to a massage. I could not resist getting one for myself as well. After consulting Yelp, I decided on Myo. I was not disappointed.
I had a deep tissue massage with Gina. It was awesome! I requested a lot of pressure and to focus on my shoulders and neck. I have never had a massage quite like this before, she moved my arms around and massaged different muscles in a way that was very relaxing. I would highly recommend Gina, and plan on going again soon. -

My experience with Myo Massage was great from the beginning. Rachel helped me book my appointment over the phone last minute on a Friday evening for before noon the following Saturday, when many of the other places I called told me they couldn't accommodate me.
Colby was my therapist, and he was incredible. If you like deep, therapeutic release techniques, this is the guy to go to. I have a high-stress job, especially at this time of year, and I feel 1,000x better after seeing him.
The overall relaxed and comforting atmosphere helped contribute to what was already an excellent massage. Best $100 spent ever. -

After reading all the reviews on Yelp about how great Myo was, I made an appointment. I was in awful pain from the tension in my neck and my regular massage therapist couldn't get me in.
I called and they got me in that day. I was so glad to be going someplace that really looked great so I could get rid of the tension.
I couldn't find the place at first, gave them a call and the friendly staff directed me straight over.
I sat down, filled out my paperwork and did love the fact that you got to choose your own music! *awesome*
I met my massage therapist, Katie, who seemed very nice and really seemed to listen to my concerns about my body.
We talked about what my needs were and she made some great suggestions.
However, I wasn't impressed by the massage... and ended up hurting badly that evening and am still (about two months later) in horrible pain that wasn't there before.
She massaged my throat - the front of it - which ended up hurting badly later that night, to the point that I couldn't breathe without it hurting and would gag if I tried to eat. It was awful. When she was massaging my throat, I told her it was very uncomfortable. However, she didn't seem to think that it was harmful to me and even said something to the like of her not wanting to stop just because something was just uncomfortable.
I also have pain in my elbow that keeps me from moving it freely now.
My usual massage therapist has been working on me since then, trying to repair the damage. I can't even straighten my arm without horrible pain.
Although the customer service is stellar, I would never return. -

I love me a good massage, and I love it even more when the masseuse puts a little muscle into eliminating all of the knots in my back. This was my first visit to Myo and I was asked to fill out a form that ranged from my preferences on a cool or hot room, what type of music I wanted to listen to, and what area's of my body that I didn't want be worked on. I totally appreciated this form because I hate when I am cold while getting a massage. Filling out their form makes it customized for every customer to have a good experience. I called on a Thursday and was able to get an appointment for the next day... sweet! Colby was my masseuse and he did a really good job of asking questions about my trouble areas and then treating those areas during the massage. Myo has a small store front at the Triangle in between Mama Fu's and the park, across from the parking garage.

Had a killer knot in my back. Needed a massage, but have very little time. Myo was able to fit me in for a 20 minute chair massage the same day (within a few hours), and it was just what I needed. Will be able to sleep tonight, and for that they get 5 stars. When I come back, I'll definitely opt to listen to some Sigur Ros.
