I weebled, then wobbled between 3 and 4 stars. On one hand, there is something extremely disturbing about their soy chicken. On the other, the health factor did bang the take-out I consumed out of the ball park. I like healthy food, so I went for higher.

Walking distance from my school's studio, so this convenience factor (and free delivery!) bodes well.

The price wasn't bad, as they have $9 dinner specials they serve all day. My friend was a little confused at first, since you specify what meal you want, *then* what type of soy substitute you want cooked with it. This place is ALL vegan. I repeat. NO MEAT.

My order of the cucumber salad was delicious and a bounty of fresh veggies and tasty dressing, served on the side. I ordered the green curry with the soy chicken. This is where it got a little interesting. First of all, the curry is lime green. I like colorful food, so while I was a little bewildered, I found the flavor pleasant. There is a nice portion of vegetables, but the soy chicken is straight-up funky.

You ever chill some kind of creamy soup and find a thick skim of congealed fat on top? That is roughly what this soy chicken looks like. It's not nice to look at, the texture is squishy, and the taste is lacking (but for the curry flavor). Not a huge fan, next time I'd go without a soy protein and just have green vegetable curry.

An absolute masterpiece. My Vegan has been able to capture the true essence of Vegan food. All the food is amazing and delicious. You do not realize its fake meat. I took all my carnivore friends here and they said they liked it better than real meat. Vegan food is in a world of its own and being a vegetarian all my life has trained my taste bud discretion tool to be able to tell good fake meat from garbage. My Vegan has the best food around. The quality and options are amazing. This place is a jewel. X marks the spot for the buried treasure of Pasadena- My Vegan.

Julian is the name of the splendid owner who can recommend some of his favorites on the menu.

The price tags on the main dishes are a couple dollars more than your average restaurant, yes. But ponder on what you spend two dollars on these days. The appetizers are a little pricey in and of themselves. I only order from this part of the menu every once in a while.

My wife and I are long time carnivores trying to turn over a new leaf.  My Vegan was our first taste of Vegan food and I must say I was very impressed.

I was expecting a bland, tasteless dinner but the food at My Vegan was so tasty that halfway through our meal I completely forgot I wasn't eating meat!

We ordered the Green Curry and the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner Specials ($8.95 each), which each came with a side of fried brown rice, salad and an egg roll.  Every item on the plate was fresh and delicious.  How the chef prepared an authentic tasting Thai green curry without milk or a crunchy fried egg roll without eggs was simply amazing to me.

Best of all, I didn't leave the restaurant with the dreaded food coma from the restaurants I normally frequent.

Definitely check out My Vegan if you want a cheap, healthy and delicious alternative to the oily, artery clogging food most of us usually eat.

I am just happy to know this place is so close to my life-circle (Trader Joe, Whole food,Yoga House, DOT cupcake... blessing Pasadena, so Pas). This is a fantastic place my fav. My second time here and I am really impressed.
Really no joke about how good this place is. They have wide selections, basically Thai food, hmmm Good Vegan Thai food.
Dinner/Lunch combo is a super good deal for me. Salad dressing!!! what do they use? too good, perfect. Egg roll OMG dipping sauce is heaven!  Try their curries, any kind, red, green, yellow, just beautiful.
Next time, I will try their coconut juice!

I found my first true love, please don't change, never ever never....

As a vegetarian (practically vegan) while there are more and more places for me to eat, there hasn't been anything great in local Pasadena in a while. I've also kind of gotten tired of "vegan" meaning "Asian" or "Thai". Seriously.

I went into My Vegan, thinking "here we go again, Asian Vegan". Yes, that's true, but there's something different about the food at My Vegan. Let's just put it this way, my brother - the kind of guy who can eat a double decker bacon burger with ranch dressing - loves this place. My brother, who used to make fun of me for being vegetarian, loves this place. My fiancee drools over the Pad Thai. I even like the Pad Thai and I hate Pad Thai. I'm telling you, everything is good.

I've taken family and friends and they all love it. Nom nom sounds abound in utter delight of every item on the menu. I've never had a bad meal there. In fact, along with the great food, the staff is helpful, friendly, and fast! Everything is fresh and organic.

I was on a horrific allergy elimination diet in August 2009 and found that My Vegan was the only place I could eat, besides my own kitchen. I absolutely love this place and recommend it highly to anyone and everyone.

Bonus: They also deliver! I never have to leave my house again! Wait..what?

I know, I'm slow on the review uptake as I came here when it first opened.

This is a tasty, hole-in-the-wall cafe near the Fillmore Gold Line station.

It's really a Thai restaurant that just serves vegan food with some Chinese and American entrees.

My favorite dish was the P.E.T, which I think stands for Pumpkin, Eggplant, and Tofu.  They make a mean lemonade too.

I came here because for the life of me I couldn't find a vegan restaurant to take my vegan friends to and they were cramping my Pasadena restaurant style.  Now we have a place where everyone is happy!!

Last time I came here it was 10 'til 9pm I shuddered to think they would slam the door in my face.  Luckily they were open 'til 9:30pm which is kind of a weird time to close.  But it worked for me that day!

Let me preface this review by saying I am not vegetarian, let alone vegan.

However, my coworker is vegetarian, and seemed to really like this place.

So I figured I could be vegan for a day.

I ordered the Spicy Noodles, which is their version of Kee Mao noodles. I really dislike fake meat, so I got it with tofu. I thought the noodles were surprisingly tasty. I enjoyed it a lot. My only criticism would be that the tofu was a little lacking in taste. I feel like they could have marinated the tofu a little more before pan-frying it with the noodles.

Overall, a pretty decent meal. Especially considering it was vegan.

This place is a nice little vegan friendly, thai-influenced restaurant.  I say thai influenced because there are some items on the menu like burgers, teryaki and pasta, but most of the items are thai, and are the items I recommend getting here... but then again, I really love thai food.
The service is friendly and fast, all around lovely.  It's kinda small and in a strip mall, but the mirrored walls give it a much bigger feeling.  Recommended to veggie people and omnivores alike!

With their endless array of soy-infused foods, eating there day after day never gets boring.

Ive tried everything from their banana pancakes to the crispy chicken wrap to orange chicken and event a salad.  I have yet to be disappointed.

If youre new to the Wondrous World of Vegan Food, I would start here.

just ate there this weekend for the first time and holy moly this place is FANTASTIC!!!!  wish there were places like this 25 years ago...back in my early years of being vegetarian.

wait staff was very friendly and helpful and the menu had all sorts of delightful offerings, from thai dishes to vegetarian tacos and burgers.  had the lava noodle with seitan and it was spicy and delicious.  burned my mouth off, left the place with my voice sounding pretty throaty and raspy, but it was well worth it.  thai iced coffee was strong and yummy.

keep an eye out for their uniquely shaped ice cubes!  will definitely be going back to My Vegan again and again and again.

My current obsession with this place is maybe a touch unhealthy. But ya know what's not? Their chicken wrap.

If you're a vegan with fond memories of McDonald's crispy chicken sandwiches in your past life, or just a meat-eater looking for a more guiltless way of tasting such sandwiches, look no further than South Pasadena.

I could go on and on about the other fruits of this pages-long menu and the cornucopia of vegan treats on offer here, but I'm going to focus instead on the crispy chicken sandwich. Available on a bun or in a wrap, this blend of vegenaise, crispy chicken, lettuce, tomato, and avocado filled a hole in my soul that I wasn't even aware of til my first bite. Keep in mind that if you want the avo, the sandwich doesn't come with it already in there, you have to add [it comes standard with the wrap]. Get a side of their "vegan fries" (the staff seem to think this is the funniest joke on earth, are they seriously just playing off the fact that fries are vegan already? Or is there some joke I'm missing here?) and stick them in your wrap for an added crunch. Perfection. My new comfort food.

This is definitely big enough to split with someone or to save half for lunch tomorrow, and at around 7 bucks it's a pretty good deal relative to other vegan food. My Vegan also does take-out, their staff are hilariously charming and adorable to observe, and their lunch specials offer up a metric crapload of food for less than 7 bucks. In other words, go here now.

p.s. Does anyone know why, no matter what time of day you go, there is a small styrofoam container of food sitting in the bushes outside the place? Do the staff take breaks to snack? Are they not allowed to snack in-store?

This place is pretty astounding. The menu is SO extensive-- they have everything from pancakes to burgers to Thai food of every variety. I've been there three times now, and I've always walked away completely satisfied with my meal. The portions are huge generally, enough to feed two people. I've had the pepper streak wrap- which was pretty decent, the lava noodles- which were really good, and a wide assortment of some other dishes that didn't compare to the first two.

I know, I know. It's another one of "those L.A. vegan places." But it's not, this place will astound you with the level of service, quality of food, and rapid orders. Give it a try!

After driving past this place since I first saw the sign go up, I finally stopped in last week. Have been back twice already!

The pad thai was really good, much MUCH better than Vegan House on Sunset. I got it with the soy chicken, which my companion who is very NOT vegan thought was great. Also got the papaya salad, which could have been more tangy, but it was good enough for me to polish it off an hour after I got home. Obviously not any big complaints there :)

The fresh rolls (aka salad rolls or summer rolls) were really good and also had what looked like soy chicken in them. The first time I got them they used tofu, which I think I prefer for that dish.

This will be a regular stop for me on my way home from work and probably for lunch. I'm excited that the vegan/veggie restaurant arena has finally expanded beyond Orean Express (no dis on Orean, I've been going there since the mid 90s, at least).

This place is GREAT. Admittedly the food doesn't look as sexy as it could look, but the flavors.... OH THE FLAVORS!!!! So sexy.

I had the spicy eggplant (with peppered soy "beef"), pad see yew (w/ soy chicken), and fresh rolls. The rolls tasted as any other rolls would taste (w/o meat of course). I wouldn't say it was anything out of the norm. The pad see yew was so tasty!!! And the spicy eggplant was so flavorful. I'd easily say that it has more flavor than most Thai places I've been to (other than Thailand, of course!).

Don't let the "vegan" part put you off. I'm not vegan (but been on a new mission exploring new vegan places in LA!). But the food here is great and you won't be heading to a pizza place after!

My Vegan.

Funny name. What does that mean? - Sounds a bit objectifying. How would one use that in a sentence?

"My Vegan gets crazy on the dance floor. Does your Vegan get down?"

"Naw, my Vegan can't dance, but she can perform the Vegan mind meld"

Well, if you have a Vegan, and they've been good, why not take them down to "My Vegan" and let them run around a bit, stretch those Vegan legs and bask in the fact that this place - that until 2 months ago was stripping real shawarma off a spit, and hawking garlic chicken pita sandwiches - is now burning off dross by serving up seitan, tofu, something called "near", soy fish, and the other usual meat substitute suspects.

The menu is typical Thai except for a few oddballs which I have yet to try such as tacos, and pumpkin fried rice.

However I did try eating the pet. P.E.T. actually - Pumpkin, eggplant, and tofu. Not bad, but the pumpkin was too hard and not sweet.

Do give the peanutty Pra Ram a try, but be prepared for the thin slices of "chicken". They were a little odd in texture, and I would substitute tofu, or perhaps a different type of "meat" next time.

But for pure enthusiasm, this place has it hands down. I chatted it up with the manager who said that they've only been around for two months but it's been popular from the get go. Pasadena doesn't have many vegan options, and this place is open until 10pm - a solid advantage judging by the large crowd at 9:00pm on Easter Sunday.

This cheery place is a much needed spot of sunshine, and it's also conveniently located across the street from Lucky Boy for the non Vegans. Right Vegan?....

Excuse me but I seem to have lost my Vegan.

Here Vegan, (kiss kiss), heeeeere Vegan. Oh there you are! That's a good Vegan. Roll over, awwwwwww so cute!

I used to give out 5 stars to almost everywhere I've visited, but since then I have become much more of a restaurant "prude".

This place definitely deserves 5 stars.

The food was delicious and incredibly flavorful.
The prices are wallet friendly.
The service was wonderful.

Being that it was only our first time, we were only able to try a few dishes. Their dinner combination is a fantastic choice for a newbie. It comes with your selected dish, plus fried brown rice, spring roll and a side salad. Their Vietnamese fresh roll is very good too.

Good Food, Good Service, Feel Kinda Healthy...

I am not a vegan or a vegetarian.  We hit up this place after getting the car washed and hoping to grab a donut from Royal Donuts (closed at the time).  I was pleasantly surprised to find the menu has Asian-flare (Thai, Chinese).  Had lunch on a Sunday and they had a good crowd coming in and out.

I had the Chili and Basil leaves with tofu off the lunch special menu.  The portion was just right and came with brown rice, salad, an egg roll.  I did not like the sauce for the egg roll - it was not the sweet and spicy sauce typical of Thai restaurants. For me, one tofu dish is good enough so I was glad I did not order the entree dish.

We also had the tofu salad, which was very good and fresh tasting.  They also recommended something called Near Heaven.  Near is beef substitute made of wheat.  This dish was really good with an interesting flavor from some seeds.  The only thing were that the seeds were large and hard.

I would definitely go back to this place.  Great Food and Great Service.

I swore I was going to stop publishing 5-star reviews, but dang, this vegetarian is so tired of having to trek all the way down to Alhambra to get his vegetarian Asian food fix on.  Now Pasadena has its own place -- and it's not just good, it's great.  If the folks at My Vegan can keep up this level of quality over the long term, I'll be eating there so often I'll probably end up growing epicanthic folds.

Not only is this extremely tasty Thai food (and a variety of other flavors) in general, it's vegan!  So I can eat the miso soup.  No bonito flakes.  No strange dried fish garnish or mysterious eel sauce or whatever heinous ingredients sneak in under cover of traditional preparation methods ("we always make this with chicken toenails, they give it that flavor you so enjoy").  Totally pure vegan/vegetarian stuff.  Love it.

I can recommend the pepper garlic "chicken" with broccoli, the soups are all dynamite, and they have the usual veg burgers and so forth if you're looking for something non-Asian.  There's a mysterious beef substitute so realistic (according to people that remember what beef tastes like) that vegetarians nervously ask if it's really not meat, which is worth a try if you like realistic beef substitutes.  There's one born every minute.

The faux chicken is pleasingly chewy and tasty although I can't say if it tastes like chicken.  It's tasty, that's all I know.  They have a delicious caramelized brown rice side that would also make a fine main dish.  When the brown rice isn't a miserable eating chore in the name of virtue, you know you're somewhere special.

Speaking of specials, the prices are good.  The service is quick, there are lots of sides and extras with the dishes if you get the specials, and the ambiance of the dining area is clean and airy.  Not many tables, so be prepared to wait a few minutes.

I expect I'll be hitting My Vegan for lunch at least once a week  and probably hauling my wife there as well of an evening.  She likes her some meaty meat flavored meat dishes, and even she likes the food at My Vegan, so huge approval all around.

It's a pity they have 'Vegan' in the name, which conjures images of emaciated, sandal-wearing longhairs with bad posture despite their endless yoga sessions serving platters of buckwheat hulls and uncooked turnips -- My Vegan couldn't be farther from that.  It's hearty, tasty food, served up with pride -- and none of that pretentious 'I'm better than you because I only eat what sheep eat' attitude.

I may be a vegetarian, but I like to eat, dammit!  My Vegan is aimed right at my niche: people that want to eat healthy food, but don't want to suffer for it.  It's a relatively new place, so let's hope this is more than beginner's luck -- because if they can maintain this level of excellence, a star is born.

[Edit: I shave off one star for this reason: these guys have a strong tendency to make dishes sweet.  Like, sweeter than they ought to be.  Pad Thai should be savory, right?  Here it's sweet.  Their glazes are sweet.  And over the last few visits, I'm finding this sweetness is taking over the menu.]

After walking/driving by this place since it opened I finally stopped by for dinner and I must say it was well worth it.

The menu has plenty of options, from soup to burgers. The service was great and the staff was very friendly.

The food was delicious. Great "fried chicken" and my grilled chicken burger was good but a little dry (not enough vegannaise?).

I'm hooked.

As I write this, the spicy chili basil with nuggets and hearty brown rice sits satisfyingly in stomach.

The food was mmm mmmm good.
The service was lightning fast and friendly.
I don't get a flash of guilt when I see a chicken cross the road.

Easily a once-a-weeker. With free delivery (min $15 within 3 miles) maybe a twice-a-weeker.

bok-bok says the soy bean. Moo-moo says the seitan.

this place is just a-ok.   i ordered noodles with the pepper steak while my buddy had the pad thai and  we shared family style.   i was expecting the pepper steak to resemble something like cow but instead it looked more like slimy pieces of fake chicken.     the noodles weren't bad but not memorable whatsoever.   the only thing i remembered really was the thai iced tea. wow, that was good for being a vegan drink.

unfortunately, the main stars of the show were very unremarkable and i was insanely hungry a few hours after!  i had to eat another meal!     service is also very friendly and attentive.  unfortunately, the food is just a meh in my book.

This place is really good and you never leave feeling hungry. However, my only concern is that I've seemed to gain a couple of pounds since eating at this place. My family eats here 1-2 times a week. I'm pretty active and my weight has been steady for years, so I can't figure it out other than this place. The portions are huge! I guess even with vegan food, you have to watch your portions.

Back to the food, the pineapple fried rice, cashew soy chicken, basil soy chicken, curries and fried spring rolls are excellent. You really don't miss the meat.

The food was decent, but I am from the bay area and I feel like the vegiterian and vegan places up north offer food with better flavor and more authentic when compared to meat. My problem with this place was not so much the food as the service. They were helpful while serving but would not let me dad use the restroom after spending 80+ dollars there (which is a lot for this place). I know they were close to closing up, but c'mon, show a little class.

My boyfriend and I aren't really big fans of vegan or vegetarian diet, but we were impressed with the food here on our first visit. The quality and flavor of the food had exceeded our expectation!  I loved their chicken paa-sew and the pho basil. The pho broth was filled with basil aroma and flavor with a tad of minty taste The Asian white pepper on the paa-sew was a clever seasoning to bring out the flavor of the veggie meat.  Oh and the fresh coconut juice is probably the best beverage there!

The reason I am not giving it a 5-star is that we weren't as impressed on our second visit. I ordered the pho basil again but the broth was nearly tasteless. I couldn't taste or even smell the basil, at all! And the waitress didn't bring out the Huisan and their signature spicy sauces until I requested (when I asked for it the first time, she merely brought me a dish of soy sauce and regular spicy sauce). Seemed like they are lack of some consistency on food quality...Also, having only 2 waitresses serving a room full of people, you have to be more patient. I know I will be there again...but I hope the food will be as good as the first time..

Two visits w/ the tribe two weeks apart, once for dinner and once for a weekend lunch. Nice service and presentation, pretty standard for a thai place. Tried pad thai, a "near" burger and fries, "near" lard na, "shrimp" tom yung gung, spicy cashew "chicken", yellow curry "fish", and red curry "chicken".

Burger and fries was good, outstanding bun and toppings, everything but the "near" meat itself.

All the thai stuff was passable too, the yellow curry fish better, good actually. However, subbing broccoli for gai lan reminds me that we're in Pasadena, not Hollywood. Frozen peas and carrots in the fried rice makes me think we're in Peoria. In winter. In a recession. In the last century.

Whatever health benefit you think you're getting by skipping meat is erased by the oil, salt, and sugar (aka cheap tricks) suffusing all of their food.

Old Town Adjacent pricing is in effect.  Up-charges add up!

Not absolutely trashing the place, it is acceptable overall and certainly tasty enough for vegans, and some folks like it, so I'm glad it is here as an option. Just not wowed or even really satisfied on any level. Rather go to Orean on Lake, or any other chinese veggie place in the sgv.

so i rarely think restaurants are 5 stars. but my vegan, oh my vegan! i kind of thought my vegan would be like every other vegan-but-really-thai-with-vegetables restaurant in los angeles, my current favorite being truly vegan in hollywood. but my vegan blows that junk out of the water. no joke!

first of all, their menu is pretty comprehensive. they've got burgers (with a tofu scramble burger option!), wraps, thai curries, noodles (including a veggie basil pho? oh well), fried rices (fried brown rice! yay!), vegan pancakes, and lunch + dinner specials. i got one of the dinner specials and a side of soy chicken nuggets. their soy chicken nuggets are SO GOOD. they beat the pants off most other places' soy nuggets. the batter was very light and the texture wasn't mushy like most other soy nuggets. it was the perfect soy chicken flavor. for your dinner specials, you get a pretty good choice of soy chicken, soy steak, seitan, tofu, or soy fish. i got the chili basil with soy fish and it was pretty delicious. you get a generous side of fried brown rice as well. a deal for $8 and change.

seriously. i'm going to be here every week, if anything, to give them business they deserve. really fresh food, friendly and quick service, and an actual vegan sit-down place in pasadena! it's right off the fillmore stop on the gold line as well!

This past weekend was my first visit and definitely not my last. I was accompanied my by dog Bruce and was planning to dine at one of the   out outside to avoid leaving my pooch in the car. One of the co-owners Junior greeted me outside and gave me permission to bring my dog inside with me to dine. Turns out he's a fellow Boston Terrier owner as well. I declined to be considerate to other dining and insisted to sit outside. While glancing over the menu I noticed that Junior had a good amount of repeat customers and was on a first name basis with them. Anyhow, on with the food. I decided on ordering the spicy eggplant soy chicken which included brown fried rice, salad, and spring roll. Everything was hella tasty. No complaints. Looking forward to my next visit.

The place is very clean and the waitresses are all really nice and attentive. The Tom-Yum noodle soup is a must with tofu, and Pad-See-You is great with soy chicken. Also, try the fresh rolls... they are very fresh! They were sold out of carrot cake... :( but everything else was really good. On the plus side they have soy ice cream and Uncle Eddie's Vegan cookies.

I have been twice here for their dinner special of orange chicken. I loved it! Very tasty. I can't wait to come back and sample more of the yummy food. Perfect vegan alternatives to regular food. The staff seem nice too which always makes the experience better.

I love My Vegan.  Since I discovered it I eat here at least twice weekly.  I am a vegetarian, but even meat eaters like it ... some more than their (former) favorite Thai places.  I haven't had anything bad, but my favorites are the fish wrap, spicy eggplant lunch special, yellow curry, pad thai, the green curry and the soups (Tom Kha Ghai I think).  My inlaws are pretty picky and older, and they totally dig this place.  The atmosphere isn't great, but that's not why you go ... it's all about the food.  I also love the people.  Very attentive, humble, thoughtful.

Also, they have delivery within 3 miles for free for orders above $15.  It's fast and easy.

my vegan is literally a 5 minute walk from my residence, which explains why i frequently order from this place. for the most part, everything that i have ordered (fish wrap, soy bits with coriander, banana dessert rolls, thai arnold palmer) have all been up to par. athough, there are a few items that are leaning towards average (french fries, chicken soy nuggets, baked potato slices).

at this moment, i have placed a to-go order for pad see ew and red curry. since the restaurant is thai infused, i'm sure both dishes will be great. if not, i will have to post again.

my vegan is a treat for all veggies and omnivores.

This place is so freaking good! I love the spring rolls and the orange chicken, as a new vegetarian (oct 08) I am so stoked there is a place close by my house and work where I can get delicious 100% vegan food that tastes BETTER than meat, in my opinion. Even my boyfriend and his sister gave this place the thumbs up and they are Armenian, raised on delicious kabobs their whole life. Thank  you My Vegan for diversifying the quick cuisine available so us local pasadenians.

I am very pleased there is another vegan restaurant in Pasadena, and a pretty decent one, at that. I dine here regularly for lunch because it's near my workplace, but I'd come here even if it were not geographically convenient.

My Vegan has a pretty large, if not a bit confused, menu, and it could benefit from having daily specials and more combo-meal deals for the lunch crowd. Much of the menu consists of vegan versions of Thai dishes, but there are some Western dishes -- breakfast pancakes, pasta, burgers and wraps, etc.

Since it's easy to get veg versions of Thai dishes at most Thai restaurants, I prefer the burgers and wraps, even though they are a bit hit-or-miss. For example,  if you order a mushroom burger, it's just sauteed mushrooms -- NOT a veggie burger topped with mushrooms, which what was I was expecting.  Still tasty, especially with the crispy fries.

Another good dish is the vegan Vietnamese pho. I'm half Vietnamese and really particular about vegetarian pho, and My Vegan's version hits the spot. Definitely something I'll order when I'm missing mom's home-cooking.

The service is also very helpful and always cheery. I never feel rushed or abandoned, even when many of the tables are filled. I really hope My Vegan sticks around because it's a great addition to Pasadena's restaurants.
