The food here is pretty good. This combined with My Thai being one of the few all-vegan establishments in the Boston area makes it a special gem. The deserts are very, very good. They're made by Indigo Cafe in New Hampshire. The carrot cake, in particular, is worth trying.

My only complaints are: service (they're often very slow) and ambiance (is there any?).

Despite these issues, My Thai is hands down the best vegan establishment in the Boston area.

I only came to try the vegan-friendly bubble tea so I can't comment on the food. But I have seen cozier interiors in hospital ER's.  Seriously this place is S-T-E-R-I-L-E and feels just empty like someone forgot to get any decor.

I wasn't impressed with the Bubble tea AT ALL. Keeping with their Vegan-friendliness they use Coconut milk instead of real milk.  Understandable and even admirable, but it literally ruins all their flavors because it is overwhelmingly cocoNUTTY. Hello Rice milk? Almond milk? Soy milk?

There are so many great alternatives for dairy milk and they probably picked the worst.  Unless you love coconut and the idea of Coconut bubble tea with a hint of your flavor of choice appeals to you.  Which it very well might.

I'm not generally in to faux meat dishes, and usually tend to avoid all-vegan restaurants (it's not that I don't want to support them, but the food is often just not that good), but the food here is really good!
Huge selection of dishes and decent portions, and most of the dishes are very flavorful. Plus they have vegan desserts, such as amazingly rich, yummy chocolate cake - drool!
The bubble tea is pretty good, too.
Not the best Asian food I've ever had, but definitely worth a visit.

I ate here last Wednesday for lunch with a couple of friends. Not the cutest place in the world, but that doesn't matter to me as long as the food quality is superb. Having said that, it was only an average dining experience. We started off with some veggie chicken fingers and spring rolls; the tofu in the "chicken fingers" was over fried, it was very tough and chewy (not an attribute of good tofu), the spring rolls were light, and tasty but I did not enjoy the cellophane around it.

For my meal, I ordered #52-- the curry fried rice with veggie shrimp and chicken. I thought that there the portion sizes were perfect, good flavor, but very greasy. I'm never a fan of excess oil. I also ordered a mango bubble tea, which was quite heavenly. I did think that there were too many bubbles and they were getting too chewy and I didn't want to do all the work. My friend's partner ordered the carrot cake--wow, that has had to have been one of the best desserts I've had--vegan or not. Very moist. Quite decadent. I'll check this place out again before I write them off entirely.

Someone I know is a waitress there.  They don't give the wait staff any of the tips, so think twice about leaving any.

I ate here for the first time last night. The penang curry had very good flavor, but there was a puddle of oil and grease sitting on the plate after I had picked out the tofu and veggies. The peppermint cake was great.

I visited this cute little cafe for lunch with a fellow vegan and we ate very well.

I got the Mango Curry lunch special with faux chicken and it was DELISH.  (this is meant to be short for delicious... looks more like "relish" with a "d".... whatever).

The soup was fantastic.... and the yellow curry in my entree was flavorful and adequately spicy.  If you ain't sweatin', you ain't eatin'!

I just realized that hot tea was supposed to be served with our lunch as part of the lunch special.... and there was no tea :(  I forgot to ask and they must have forgot to bring.  But that's not a big enough deal for me to dock them a star.

If you like flavorful thai-food, vegetarian or not, try My Thai!

i'm sorry, this place is delicious.  meat or not - this place is delicious!

now, it's hard to go wrong with thai.  i'd asked the bf if he wanted to try it out before, but as a hard-core carnivore, he didn't even want to give it a chance.  now that we're on a 6-month-vegetarian-challenge, he's a little more easily swayed.  we were pleasantly surprised to find out that pretty much every dish offers your choice of faux-meat (or just plain ol' tofu) - whereas I expected all of the dishes to be just veggie centric.

the best thing to do, as with many places, is to get multiple dishes and share.  we were a party of four, but we shared 3 dishes amongst us and were perfectly satisfied.  prices are comparable (if not cheaper!) than any other thai place in the city.

I really REALLY love this place. For lunch, dinner, dessert, or just a bubble tea, I seriously could eat here all the time. I just wish I lived closer.

Everything on the menu is 100% vegan, and they offer all the Thai specialties you know and love, plus plenty of other more unique options to choose from. Though I'm not usually big on fake meat, these guys do it well and make some of the best veggie-chicken, veggie-beef, and veggie-shrimp I've ever had. As a soup-a-holic, I always go for a bowl of the delicious Tom Yum Gai. You can't go wrong with any of the entrees, but I particularly recommend the curries. For a special treat, get a "bird's nest," a fried taro-root "nest" filled with veggie meats, veggies, and a spicy curry sauce. Sooo good.

Don't leave without dessert! These are the best vegan desserts in Boston (in my humble opinion). There is a whole case of cakes to choose from, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. My personal favorites are the carrot cake, the cheesecakes (get one topped with fruit!), and the chocolate peppermint ganache cake.

Finally, try a bubble teat here, either with dinner, or just sometime when you're passing by. Again, it's one of my favorites in the city, as they are (being vegan) lactose free and made with actual fruit. There's a million flavors to choose from-- try mango or coconut!

If you know someone who is hesitant about the vegetarian/ vegan lifestyle, this is a great place to bring them to show them how amazing vegan food can be. The food is so flavorful that they're pretty much guaranteed to open their mind.

Bon appetit!

I would like to give this 3.5 stars, but have to settle on 3 stars.

As Buddahs Delight I frequented this place at least twice a season, thats a lot since it was not easily accessible without car and on a starving artist's budget. As My Thai I only came here twice. Which I must add is unfortunate, as My Thai stepped up the quality of food and atmosphere, although the service still lags.
Ikea all over the place, the furniture and decor is bright and happy, but swtiches over to a semi-intimate setting after 7 or so... not the ideal romantic date, but it could be a good start off a first date (the traditional awkward, getting to know you dinner and a movie thang).
The desserts are some of the best vegan options Boston has to offer, and the main improvement from Buddahs Delight... I am not sure who makes them as I've never seen the Tortoise Tart anywhere else.

This is the place my parents bring us vegan kids to all enjoy food; both my parents eat meat, my Dad a strict carni (it'll catch on, we can do it vegans!), but they have always enjoyed this establishment, as both alias'.

ps: the regulars kind of suck. Many visits were ruined by loud obnoxious tables who are rude to the waiters or like to be veganer than thou.

My take is pretty much like most of the others on here so far.

The food is decent - not extraordinary, but decent.  Everything - soup, apps, and mains all arrived at the same time, which was annoying, especially given the limited amount of table space we had.

Service was awful - we waited 15 minutes for cold drinks, and one of us waited even longer for hot tea.  We sat with dirty plates in front of us for forever, and if the owner (? - he was a man in dress slacks and cashmere vest) hadn't taken our leftovers to be wrapped, we would probably still be sitting there two days later.

There are better places to eat in Brookline, let alone in Boston.  It's a shame that My Thai Cafe can't get it's act together.

It is true that the service at this restaurant is quite average. But I tend to be forgiving because (1) I do not go there for a five-star Michelin experience, (2) I don't go during peak hours (Friday or Saturday night) so they have more time to wait on everyone, and (3) the food is worth the less than stellar service! I have to admit, as an Asian, that some of my favorite Asian restaurants have terrible service. I hope that doesn't sound like a justification, but that's my experience. And as someone who has worked in the food industry, if something is deeply dissatisfying, you have to tell the management. Otherwise they don't improve, because all they get is a shitty tip. And this place is worth the risk of "bad" service (the waiters I've had were always cordial, but perhaps I have been lucky).

Okay, reasons that this place is worth it:

(1) The ginormous selection. The menu literally fills up a binder, and there's a ton of wonderful straight up veggie entrees (for those who dislike the idea of pseudo-meat).

(2) Bubble tea bistro! If anyone who's sick of chains like Lollicup, there's hardly better (if any at all, actually) bubble tea to be had that close to Coolidge Corner.

(3) Ridiculously amazing vegan cakes. I've had the chocolate ganache, but the lemon poppyseed is my favorite. It's pretty damn sweet, but the texture is dense (more like a brownie), and the serving is huge (I've always had to split with a friend).

Anybody who's scared of the prospect of bad service, I say please give this place a chance. Don't propose to your girlfriend here, go on a weeknight, and just try to keep an open mind. It was clear from my experiences there that English is not the waitstaff's first language, but a little sympathy and a smile goes a long way! And if that fails, well, Grasshopper is a fifteen minute walk away.

Some of the best regular-menu vegan food in Boston, in my opinion. Yeah, the service needs work (yes, it is frequently slow and appetizers usually come at the same time as your meal, which I've noticed at every Thai vegan restaurant I've eaten at in the U.S., oddly). Also, I completely agree that the atmosphere is very plain, but it isn't exactly ugly, either. It's just... white.

Despite these factors, I am frequently drawn back for the massive menu of entrees (particularly fond of the Pad See Ew, Yellow Curry and Pineapple Fried Rice) and the incredible cakes. The bubble teas are a refreshing snack, too. I just can't drink an entire one of these along with a meal and dessert. It's just too much goodness at one sitting.

Fortunately you can fix service and atmosphere. It's much harder to fix a broken menu, but that's just not a problem here. In fact, the only two dishes I have been lukewarm about were the miso soup and the steamed potstickers. I've enjoyed everything else I've had enough that I have a hard time deciding what to get when I go (which is often).

Just some notes on my local vegan eatery of choice:
- bubble tea! oh my goodness, the bubble tea.  SO SO good.  its made with coconut milk and they use fresh fruit whenever possible.  the best i've had, possibly ever.
- chinese style flat rice noodles: my dish of choice, just like chow fun (see picture I posted), with vegan assurance.
- beef is dry
- chicken good texture.  i havent eaten any chickens in a long time but if i didnt know it was vegan, i wouldve thought it was real.
- shrimp a little rubbery but surprisingly similar to shrimp texture
- carrot cake YUMMM, chocolate cake meh
- steamed dumplings - too much noodle, very chewy
- cheap: 1 app, 2 bubble teas, 4 entrees, 1 piece of cake = 4 uncomfortably full adults (including one eating for two) + leftovers for $50
- my non-vegan family liked the food here the best out of all the restaurants we ate at over a 10 day span (and we ate out every meal)
- service is hit or miss; English is clearly a second language for some of the girls that made friendly small talk impossible and could easily be mistaken for rudeness

SOO glad I moved into the neighborhood.  I know I'll be here often!

Please ignore the name "My Thai Cafe" on the awning outside.  This restaurant used to be called Buddha's Delight and it's still the same place.  The menu has the same stuff on it, the same people work there and they even kept that weird fruit tree by the window in the back dining room.  They did make some interesting additions to the menu such as curries, and chicken drumsticks (which have actual wooden sticks going through them).  Its pretty greasy and the atmosphere is lacking, but I get frequent cravings for their BBQ beef so I'll be back many many times.

I am not a vegan of vegetarian, but every once in a while I get pulled into such a restaurant.
We started with the steamed dumplings, and I wasn't super into them. I can't pinpoint the taste that muddied it for me.
For dinner, I had the beef and vegetables with brown sauce and it was so good. The sauce was really tasty and I like fake beef better than any other fake meat.
Environment wise...it seemed like although most of the tables were empty, they weren't really getting cleaned until someone came in to sit at one. I don't know, maybe i just haven't had enough experience here, but the service and atmosphere kind of sucked.
Good meal though.

Holy crap, I love My Thai.  Boston vegans, rejoice.

It's sort of a hidden gem, unlike Grasshopper, which can be flooded with scene kids.  I thought the food was amazing.  I had the lemongrass  'chicken' dish, which was spicy and flavorful.  The vegetables are very fresh and the chicken alternative has a great texture.  The golden triangles appetizer was also great.   Now I'm hungry.

Anyway, go check it out.  And take me with you.

I'm not a big fan of Thai, but the idea of a vegan Thai restaurant was intriguing.

To take the edge off from the cold outside, I started off with the tom yum gai - it was hearty and spicy enough to keep me interested.

For a main, I got the "Bird's Nest" which had good sounding ingredients: veggie beef & chicken, zucchini, string beans, broccoli, pineapple chunks and other veggies in a hot green curry sauce, inside a fried taro-root nest. It was supposed to come with walnuts, but was served instead with cashews. It was okay - the beef was a little too salty - I wasn't too jazzed about the dish after a few bites.

As for the restaurant itself: the interior was kinda drab, the table tops were covered with plastic. Service was nice enough, though.

I am finding it hard to sum up my My Thai experiences. First off the food is absolutely perfect (at least the stuff that I have tried). Sweet and Sour Chicken ( highly recommended...I crave it close to everyday) It is a whole lot of fake chicken garnished with a whole lot fresh veggies and sauce. Tofu Fingers ( A must for any restaurant like this.) Lemon Grass Chicken (Ok in my book...it actually revamped my love for  lemon grass and I now use it in everything from body products to cooking...YUM) Beef and Broccoli (Brown sauce is good...Broccoli is nice...Not a fake beef fan anywhere I go) Curried Stuff (always good if your in the mood) The one thing I had here that I didn't like was  some kind of soup...My friend ordered it to shared and lets just say he ate the majority of it (it made me feel like I was sipping on a boiling pot of EVOO with chili flakes.) I apologize for not remembering the name. Anywho...the food is good and I don't think you will regret anything you get. They have vegan protein for every kind of eater Squid, Shrimp, Veal, Beef, Chicken etc...Desserts are heard to be super good as well (personally I've have never tried anything)

Second off...the atmosphere isn't that good. It's funny to watch awkward daters and cute families but really there is only so much one can take. Beg for a seat near the window (thats all I have to say)...and there is no music (it is turned down very low) so some times you will experience the unintentional eves dropping (weird) and/or sometimes the the whole restaurant will experience a wave of silence (even weirder).

And the service...it's hard to distinguish...sometimes I think the waitresses are timid and unsure of what they are suppose to be doing and other times I think they just don't want to interrupt people's good time. I don't know...

One last tip...know the number of your meal!!!!

My Thai Cafe is an excellent restaurant with a large all-vegan menu to choose from.  I'm actually getting hungry just thinking about the restaurant.  The staff is extremely nice and the atmosphere is always great.  Try the Golden Triangles for an appetizer (comes with an amazing soybean sauce).  All the vermicelli dishes taste amazing, it's always a sure bet you'll leave happy if you decide to go with this for a meal.  Other recommendations include: The Bird's Nest and Pineapple fried rice.

I want to Hi-Five everyone that enjoys My Thai Cafe and gets excited just by the thought of food there.

Ever wonder what the difference is between fake beef and cardboard?  Then head here and you can see how with skillful hands a cook can turn some sort of veggie protein into tasty, well-textured morsels of goodness.  The chunks of meet (mete?) hold the spicy sauce perfectly and the veggies were fresh and full of flavor.  I'm not a vegetarian, but I really appreciated getting most of the joy of meat without the greasiness.

I LOVE My Thai. This is some of the best vegan food in the city. Their curries are delicious, their vegan desserts are out of this world and their bubble tea is addictive. They even have Vietnamese coffee with coconut milk.

This isn't the healthiest food in the world by far, but I just can't stay away. Their fake meats are quite good and varied, and they also offer tofu as an option on most dishes.

I am only giving 4 stars because the service really is quite terrible. Don't wait around to be seated or to have your credit card run, you have to be assertive. There is sometimes a language barrier so always order with the number of the dish you want, rather than the name. And don't expect your appetizer to come before your food, they like to surprise you with everything at once.

Also, if you love My Thai/Veganism, you should head on over to www.Bostonvegan.org and become a member so you get 10% off your every My Thai purchase!

I had one of the best meals OF MY LIFE here a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a vegan, but can't eat dairy, so I've been trying vegan food...and this place was amazing. The veggies were incredibly fresh, the sauce was perfectly tangy and the "veggie chicken" was actually quite good. I was pretty happy with it as a substitute for real meat. My boyfriend agreed that the food here was really fantastic. It was affordable and clean. We had a couple of slices of vegan cake...German chocolate and carrot cake, and you would not believe that they were vegan. So, so good! And don't leave without trying the bubble tea. The Green Tea/Jasmine one is great and mint is good too! I think that this is possibly the best Thai restaurant in the greater Boston area.

Hands down, the most flavorless dishes my wallet has ever suffered for have been thanks to  this place. True, if all coagulated, personality-less sauce and excess oil is wiped off the vegetables, they're quite crisp, and that's astounding. But it's also no reason to visit a restaurant, as opposed to a grocery store.

I'm really not well rehearsed in Thai food so I don't have anything to compare the actual food too. However, I love their Bubble Tea. They have some of the best bubble tea I've ever had. I usually get the pineapple but you can choose from many flavors. So good!

Again, as this place is vegetarian, I wanted so badly to be good.  It's nice to go to a place and know that whatever I order off of the menu will be free of meat and meat products by definition.  I used to order things in regular restaurants that "looked vegetarian," only to find out that it was made with beef stock or whatever (like French onion soup).  Then there are those times when I was lied to by the waitress, who claimed be vegetarian herself, while she looked me in the eye and told me that all of the vegetable sides there (at Redbones) were completely free of meat.  She claimed to eat them all of the time.  Turns out that ALL of their sides are made with pork and pork fat.  Ha.

So, when Buddha's closed (no big loss) and My Thai opened in it's place, I was excited.  As far as the food goes, I've pretty much enjoyed everything I've had off of the menu, especially the "chicken" with cashews.  The temple soup is yummy.  The won ton soup is yummy.  The smoothies are good, better than Dok Boa since they are less sugary.

Here's the disappointing part. :
The service is absolutely terrible.  They often get my order wrong and are fairly rude.  I make sure to speak clearly and concisely since their English is limited and they STILL tend to get orders wrong.  Sometimes, things are not numbered on the menu and it is easier to get a wrong order.  I got a pineapple coconut smoothie to go.  I ordered loudly and clearly - I ended up with a papaya/coconut.  I told them (as politely as I could) that I ordered the pineapple coconut.  What I ended up with was a slimy pineapple/coconut smoothie that I HOPE TO GOD didn't have anything gross in it since I took a *GIANT* sip.  Maybe I've watched too many sensationalist FOX news stories about chefs that sabotage the food when you send something back, but I swear there was some sort of bodily fluid in there.  I DID NOT taste like previous pineapple/coconut smoothies that I've had from there in the past.  I ended up throwing it out, disgusted and horrified.  They seemed angry that I sent the first one back.

It's nerve wracking to be in a place where they are angry and rude when you send things back to the kitchen and feel they might be putting something gross in your food, especially in a place that gets my orders wrong a good percentage of the time.  At this point, I almost rather eat whatever they give me, and may go in the future when I'm not craving something specific.  That way, I'll be prepared for more of a "grab bag" type of experience.

There are other little things, too.  The place isn't heated in winter, so I've eaten several meals there in the winter with my coat on with freezing hands.  The presentation in eh, too.  On several occasions my chicken w/cashew nuts was presented to me with the cashews thrown on top after the rest of the meal had been cooked.  I hate that.  It doesn't taste as good.  And it was a downer since I was paying $10 for the dish that didn't even contain meat.

I was disappointed by the dessert menu.  I should point out that I haven't had any of them yet.  The reason that I was disappointed was that all was available was vegan chocolate cake and other western desserts.  I didn't come to an Asian restaurant to each chocolate cake.

And yet, on the white board on the counter, there were all sorts of yummy ***ASIAN*** confections, some contained tropical fruits used in Thai cooking, some contained taro .  I LOVE taro and was eager to try one.  I asked for one after the other over a period of months, after being told time and time again that none were available.  Finally, I asked the owner what the deal was.  He told me that he was too "lazy" to make them.  His words.  Nice attitude.  Then why the Hell are they advertised?   To cause disappointment in their customers for a chuckle? .Wouldn't surprise me.  And why serve western desserts in and Asian restaurant?  That was pretty disappointing,  especially since every time I asked about it, I was led to believe that they were temporarily out, like they had just run out or something.  I go to Thai restaurants to eat Thai food, not vegan chocolate cake.

So, I haven't been back there in many months, because I don't like to freeze in the winter while eating, it's nerve wracking to expect to have your food wrong, then to have passive-aggressive or down right rude behavior come your way while you just try to get what you ordered.  Not worth the psychic energy.  I wish that they would either actually cater to patrons or close and let someone else move into that space who does.  Bostonians put up with way too much rudeness.

Formerly "Buddha's Too".... I'm not quite sure what changed aside from the name of the place. It's still Vegan Thai Food, & it's still really tasty.

The "ambiance" isn't anything stupendous, but it's decent enough, and the food more than qualifies it for multiple visits.

I will say, speak up if you want dessert, because I've been there at times when they just bring you the check without asking if you'd like anything else.

Other than that, the staff is friendly, and Buddha's in Chinatown is still my preferred Vegan locale, but this place does nicely in a pinch and if you're on that side of the city. Plus, the lot behind the building makes for WAY easier parking than in Chinatown.

I've been to My Thai Vegetarian Cafe three times now.  My first two times here were very pleasurable, great food, quick and good (but not outstanding) service.  Unfortunately my last visit to My Thai was awful!  It was so bad that it superseded the two good experiences I've had here and now I'm not sure if I shall return for a 4th dining experience.

I came with three friends on a Saturday night.  There was no host to greet or seat us for 5 min!  We were contemplating leaving right off the bat and probably should have.  Finally someone notices us standing there and attempts to seat us...what a fiasco!  rather than bus a table in the main dining room they offered us a table with an old dirty rag on it in the take out area of the restaurant.  The layout of this place is really odd...there is a nice, semi formal area with candles and flowers on the table and then a room where the cash register and bathrooms are, that has random shit in it like a tv set, some musical equipment and a jumbled up pile of tables and chairs.  No one EVER eats in this room and this is where they wanted to seat us.  We kindly declined their offer of eating in this room and waited for a table to be ready in the main dining area.

We finally got seated and I sat there and watched every other table get poured water their water while our glasses went empty.  keep in mind that their "bus person" is someones senile old grandmother so I didn't get that mad that she forgot to do her job.

We placed our orders with a totally frazzled waitress, and didn't have high hopes of getting anything we asked for.  Two of our party ordered the curry vermicelli with veggie beef and the other half of our party got the pad si ewe with veggie beef but one of the orders was plus (+) which I guess means some kind of extra ingredient, it's not very clear on the menu.  We also ordered two apps and some sodas.

The apps came out almost immediately and were really delicious.  One order of fresh veggie spring rolls with fake meat shrimp and one order of fried rolls (definitely get the fresh if you decide to go to My Thai after reading this review!)  Our sodas never came and our water still hadn't been filled.  Our entrees came out only about 5 min after we finished our apps but were unaccompanied by ANYTHING to drink.  Also out waitress didnt know which one of the pad si ewes was Plus (+) and just plunked them down in front of whomever.  I reminded her of the sodas we ordered 20 min earlier, and then I finally got the attention of the bus lady and got us some water.

Our waitress was busy doing everything but getting our sodas, including setting up new tables and taking 3 other tables orders.  She finally brought our drinks and got them wrong.

My friend found a hair in her food, but declined to mention it to the management like she should have.  Despite the extra human protein in her food, everyone enjoyed their meals.  The curry vermicelli is incredibly flavorful and has just the right amount of heat.  The veggies in every dish at my Thai are super fresh and the noodles and rice are always cooked to perfection.  The seitan and tofu based fake meat they use in their food is chewy and very well seasoned.  Other things Ive tried here are the tom yum soup which has a great zingy flavor, a giant platter full of fake meat and veggies with rice paper to roll your own spring rolls (tasty but kind of messy and the paper sticks together), and the pad thai which was excellent.  My Thai also has impressive looking, totally vegan desserts in a case by the door  but when our check came before we were offered anything else we opted to go somewhere else for dessert.

We felt like we were being pushed out of my thai before we were done.  Our check came before our plates had been cleared and we sat there for 10 min in our own filth waiting for someone to take our credit card.  We felt like dead weight that My Thai was trying to get out their restaurant asap.   A horrible dining event from start to finish.

The food here is so good, and healthy and reasonably priced (apps at $3 - $5, entrees at $7 - $15).  My only complaint is that the entrees are a little on the small side so make sure to order a ton of apps or soup. It so dissapointing that this potentially great place to dine needs to seriously figure out how to take an order and make their customers feel welcomed.  My advice is to never come here on a weekend night unless you like unfriendly and inaccurate service or liquids.

I think the consensus is that it takes a special person to voluntarily substitute fake meat for real meat in customary meat dishes.  However, I believe that if you made the trip out to My Thai Cafe with an open mind, you will find that it's mighty tasty.

I am primarily vegetarian  but managed to coax a meat eater to join me for dinner.  In lieu of real meat, you can elect for veggie-chicken, veggie- beef, veggie-duck, veggie-shrimp, veggie-scallops, veggie-squid, or good ol' gluten and tofu to be prepared with any of your favorite Thai dishes and curries.

My carnivorous friend was not expecting to devour his true to form "beef" with broccoli and didn't even remark about the unfamiliar consistency.  I loved my light and flavorful lemon grass tofu and we both shared delicious fried tofu fingers served with a yummy dipping sauce as an appetizer.  There was an extensive drink menu which we decided against and instead enjoyed having our water glasses constantly refilled as soon as it passed the halfway empty mark.

So, in summary: if you like Thai food and want to try a trendy alternative to your favorite dishes and/or try to impress someone with specific dietary concerns, this is the new hot spot.  Just a heads up: although the food is vegan, many of the dishes are prepared using the usual Thai heavy sauces and are deep fried- though there is a healthy section on the menu for lighter options.  Also: make sure you allow plenty of time to peruse the extensive menu and do not come in absolutely famished as the food can take awhile to come out.

Everything I had here was fabulous - spring rolls, fake chicken cashew, and green curry duck (fake as well). I don't know what they do, but the meat tastes like the real thing and better. The chicken was better than regular chicken in that you don't have that random ligament that pops out and other questionable squishy pieces. The service was not especially friendly but they refilled the water and did everything in a timely fashion.

However, I went with a friend who has been there several times and he said that they usually don't bring out people's food at the same time...and not just a few minutes apart, he said some people would be done with their meal by the time they brought out someone else's plate. So it probably isn't too good for very large groups...but when I went our food came out roughly 30 seconds apart, so I would take a chance.

side note - I'm not a vegetarian, but I like vegetarian places

My roommate went here with her boyfriend and came back telling me it was horrible and to not waste my money. However, I wanted to try this place out for myself, and went on a date after my date's roommate saying it was one of the best places around. I ordered the yellow curry with vegan "beef" and it was the most amazing curry dish I've ever had. I have eaten easily at over 50 Thai restaurants, and this was by far my favorite. I'm not sure what spice they used in it; I have never tasted it before and am not addicted! My date got the vegan "shrimp" fried rice, which to me tasted too oily and greasy. Its better than friend rice from your run of the mill Chinese restaurant, but nothing spectacular.

The service was HORRIBLE! We asked for hot tea before we ordered, and it came to the table half an hour later. After we paid, on the way out decided to get dessert to go and had to wait 15 minutes to get someone to even ask us what cake we wanted after a group of 5 before us had to wait a goof 10 or 15 minutes themselves.

The food is good, the prices are good (epically for Boston), but the service just didn't do it for me. The decor is very bland, they could use some art to decorate the blank walls, and cloth napkins for those Friday nights! I'll go back again if in Brookline already and want Thai.

YUM!!! And it's really vegan...desserts too! Spicy, tasty vegan versions of all your favorite Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese dishes. I ate with 2 other people and their food was as good as mine..we all tried different dishes, curries, soups, appetizers etc, and were amazed at how good everything was...the spring rolls and dipping sauce were as good as any "meat' versions and the curry with "shrimp" was spicy, hot and delicious.

UPDATE: 4.5 stars--I tried their bubble tea last night--now I get what the "craze" is all about.  Their blended bubble tea is amazing!! Combine with one of their signature desserts and you've got yourself a literal slice of heaven.

I had avoided this place forever hearing that it was a former Buddha's Delight, and therefore assuming that it would be a junkfood laden, greasy, MSG crazed den of sin.

Wow, I was wrong. I didn't think Boston could rival NYC's Red Bamboo restaurant in any way, but boy did My Thai come close.  We had an order of steamed dumplings, a pot of tea, and split an entree (they are HUGE) and a dessert.  All of this for $25 (including tip)--talk about a cheap date.  Our veggie duck was so tender and the veggies were fresh, lightly sauteed, and not dripping in sauce or oil.  Sweet potatoes added a nice touch to the dish.

And the desserts--wow. Again, so happy that I came in here. Once Sweetest T left TJs, I thought tasty vegan cakes and pies would be out of my life unless they were coming from my own kitchen--wrong again.  Try the "caramel turtle" torte--amazing--one piece is just right for two people.

Kudos My Thai--i'll be back.

Props for being all Vegetarian, but after eating one of their curry dishes, I wreaked of fishy, greasy, onioniness for a couple of days. Disgusting. While I love the fake meat selection, I hate feeling fatty and gross afterwards. Maybe their desserts are good, I'm willing to try those. Just anything other than the curry!!!

UPDATE: So I went back for their desserts, and for $5, I got a decadent piece of Chocolate Peppermint Cake. I couldn't believe it had no dairy in it. It was fantastic! A little cold, but fantastic! Popular desserts include the Cherry "Cheese" Cake and the regular Chocolate Cake, though the Carrot Cake looked good, too :)

Food is great.  My favorite is the Tom Yum Gai (soup) and the Panang Curry with tofu or duck.

Don't get there too close to closing time expecting to get served --- they'll serve you some attitude instead.

Update:  I continue to love the food at My Thai, but if you order soup, an appetizer, and an entree --- you'll end up with some of it getting cold because they bring the courses out almost all at once.  And there are a few particular people on the wait staff that have massive amounts of attitude for no apparent reason.

I deducted one star because they keep the dining room so cold that I have to leave my coat on whenever I go. That said, the food rocks and the restaurant itself has many amusing quirks. There are free buddhist spirituality CDs,  two "forbidden fruit" trees with many tempting looking oranges, and liberal use of one of my favorite new past-tense verbs-blenderized.

Almost everything I've had here has been good. The Greeen (sic) Chicken Curry has my carnivorous friend dreaming of fake chicken during the day. I would stay away from the leek pancake appetizer though. It's hard to fry something and have me not like it, but they figured out how.
