Honestly, I don't know what the bad reviews on here are about. I've been going to Dr. Lozada for 3 years now and I love him. Not only him but his entire family! His brother, Italo, extracted a wisdom tooth for me last year and was incredible, it took all of 3 minutes for him to get the entire tooth out and the whole time his Mom, who also works in the practice, was there literally holding my hand. Dr. Lozada has also filled a cavity for me without novocaine because the cavity wasn't very deep and I've had ZERO problems with it. I've also had visits where I've had a clean bill of health and required no fillings.
I love 'my dentist', he explains everything to me in words I can understand, he's very gentle, super friendly, their workplace is always very clean, I'm always explained my bill and what insurance will cover and I never feel like I'm being judged when I do have to get a filling.
What more could you ask for? -

Brookline, MA
I left My Dentist a year ago, and I still think about my experience there.
When I moved to Brookline a few years ago after getting a new job, I needed a dentist. I went to My Dentist out of convenience and because the Yelp reviews at that time were all 5 stars.
My first visit was interesting. The office is extremely friendly. So friendly, in fact, it sort of bothered me because I felt like things were taking longer than they should with all the small talk. After my cleaning I got the bad news: I had 7 cavities. I was shocked, I'd never had that many cavities before in my entire life, but I hadn't been to the dentist in two years so I thought maybe it was due to that. After learning the price for fixing everything (hundreds of dollars, even with insurance), I learned that my own insurance did not have the available balance to cover the costs. Annoyed, I then learned that I was still under my parents insurance for another week (I was about to turn 27). So, I rushed home to Worcester in order to visit a dentist to get the work done as cheaply as possible.
At that visit, I told the new dentist I had a few cavities I needed filled. He sat me down and checked out my teeth and then said, "Yup. You've got one cavity. I'll fill that and get you out of here". I was amazed. I thought I was told I had 7?
So I started to become suspicious of "My Dentist". Unfortunately, laziness caused me to keep using them. I figured I'd at least use them for cleanings and ignore any advice about more expensive work. Unfortunately, you feel very powerless in doctor offices. They started to push me for getting the work done on these cavities that apparently only this dentist can see. I eventually relented (my own fault, I also now had money to cover the process) and I scheduled an appointment to fill a few of these "cavities".
At that appointment, the dentist told me I didn't need any Novocaine. This blew my mind. It was now so obvious that these cavities could not be anything larger than a very minor problem. They can't be very large if you don't need anything to numb the drilling so do they even need to be filled?) I was also unsure of why he would even risk not using any. What does he gain from this? Is he trying to save money? Why WOULDN'T you offer a painkiller?
So, I had these fillings done (again, my fault). A month later one of my teeth became very sensitive to cold. I thought it might just be a temporary problem and tried to tough it out. Over a few days, it got to the point where I couldn't drink water on that side of my mouth. Then, as I was flossing one night, a filling shot out of my mouth. A filling that had been put in just one month earlier was now laying on my bathroom floor and my tooth was so sensitive it hurt to breathe.
So I scheduled an emergency filling at a new dentist. I went in the next day, and was told that the reason the filling fell out so quickly was because the tooth had been drilled incorrectly and the drilled area was too shallow to retain the filling. The dentist re-drilled and put another filling in. He told me he had to drill very deeply to reset the filling, so the tooth might be sensitive for a while. It's been almost a year, and my tooth is still slightly sensitive to cold. I doubt it will ever go away.
So, here is my conflict: I cannot prove that My Dentist is a scam. However, I'm left with two options. Either the dentist at My Dentist is a liar who over charges patients with an incorrect diagnosis, or he is extremely liberal with what he considers to be problems. Either way, his work seems to be substandard.
In my opinion you're left with two bad options: he's either a crook or he's so sensitive that he'll end up costing you hundreds of dollars on work that other dentists don't feel is necessary. If he is genuinely concerned about these small problems, he does not realize that causing alarm amongst patients and then having them pay incredible amounts of money is a horrible situation to put someone in. Dental care is not cheap and dentists need to find out ways to do the bare minimum to keep people happy.
I can't prove anything, but the evidence mounts up the more I think about it. Once you become suspicious, the overly friendly office atmosphere starts to feel like a used car salesman trying to pull one over on you. While I was sitting in the chair, you can hear the dentist interacting with other patients. The few times I went, I NEVER heard anyone get a clean bill of dental health. Every single person in the office was diagnosed with something that needed work. That is most definitely not the norm at every other office I've been to. And then my filling. Even if the guy is not a liar, his work has caused me tooth pain that seems like it's never going to go away. I can't endorse his work, honest or not.
* Also, I just noticed the filtered reviews for this, at the bottom of the page, are overwhelmingly negative. They seem legit, but Yelp has blocked them for some reason. -

I think I'm staying away from this place. I came here for a cleaning after switching dentists and I was told I had 6 cavities! I had had a cleaning 6 months before that and was told by a highly-(yelp)-rated dentist that I did not have any cavities. I didn't think it was possible to develop 6 new cavities when my habits hadn't changed at all. I went to a different dentist for a second opinion and was told that I, in fact, do not have 6 cavities but rather just 1.
I can't believe I could have subjected myself to 5 unnecessary fillings. Ugh. -

Are these other reviews real?? I cannot imagine how this place has a 5 star rating.
In my opinion, the doctor has no idea what he is talking about and basically wants to scam money out of patients. I went to one appointment and could not even believe the nonsense this guy was telling me! First, the office suggested that I needed thousands of dollars in dental work done and suggested that I get it done at one all-day appointment! Half a dozen Novocaine injections and 8 hours of sitting with your mouth open - is that even safe for a patient?? My new dentist told there is no way he could find anywhere close to that amount of work to do on me. This guy also gave me what I feel is an unnecessary prescription (left me wondering if he gets a kick-back from the company or something).
When I moved, I couldn't even get them to transfer my dental records! Awful, awful, awful! -

I'll admit - I went to My Dentist completely out of convenience. I actually love going to the dentist, so I've never really been picky about where I go. As long as I leave with that clean-teeth-feeling, I'm a happy camper.
But Dr. Lozada has ignited a newfound dentist-snobbery in me - for the better! The office is equipped with some of the coolest, most effective tools I've ever experienced at a dentist's office:
- Panoramic x-ray machine (which his mother said would "send me to the moon")
- Bendy digi-cam to show you pictures of what's goin' on in your mouth
- Tool that cleans your teeth with water instead of the endless scraping of metal tools (totally painless, totally awesome)
And on top of all of that, there are the little things that make your experience extra pleasant, like:
- Sunglasses to block that blinding overhead light during the exam
- Soothing music flowing out of an ipod (beats the hell out of muzak or kiss 108)
- Art!
- Flexible hours (open til 8pm!)
- Superfriendly staff
So thanks Dr. Lozada. Now that you've spoiled me my standards in dentistry have increased tenfold :-) -

This is a place that can easily fall into my Top 10 Yelp spots, because I've only had fantastic experiences here. In fact, I almost want to keep this place a secret, but it's just too good not to share.
Being in a big city like Boston, I thought I'd be treated like just another newcomer. So when I walked into My Dentist for my first appointment, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and warm everyone was right off the bat, from the reception desk to the Lozadas themselves. They don't make you feel like just another patient like most other places do... you quickly end up feeling like a family friend. (Heck, I even got a hug the last time I left from the elder Lozada! How cute is that?!)
It's easy to feel like little kid again going into this place. They have really neat gidgets, including little cameras that take pictures of your teeth. I was fascinated (and appalled) when Dr. Lozada showed me detailed, color pictures of what my teeth looked like. And at no point did he judge me on my terrible flossing habits, which I was a little embarrassed about. Oh, oh... and the best part? They let you pick your favorite anesthetic flavor! Strawberry? Pina colada? Now when's the last time that going to the dentist was fun?
I had to chuckle a bit earlier today when I got an email and the address was "ilovemydentist@address...". I never thought I'd "love" going to my dentist, but I really do love it now. (Oh yes, by the way they even email you the day after a procedure and ask if everything is okay.) Even if I move away from the city sometime in the future, I think I'll keep going here because there's nothing quite like it. -

Igor Lozada , gives dentists a good name!!! He makes shots painless he is attentive and genuinely cares about your comfort and needs as a client and a person. He is for real. I can tell you I had 4 cavities filled at once by my own choice and it was easy. His father and mother are both dentist and are the most welcoming people. Seriously you feel like family and it's not awkward. I am so happy to have him as my dentist and he is more then fair with prices! My Dentist is something you'll be proud to share finally some one cool. The office is so nice.
They offer Zoom whiting and hugs! Really , great service and integrity! Plus some time he can take walk ins and or find a way to fit you in. A hard worker and an awesome experience! -

I've been to this office on two separate occasions and both times it was a pleasure (and that's saying a lot since it's a dentist's office!) The first time was for a cleaning and the second time was to have 2 cavities filled. Let me tell you, the shot given to numb the pain was as painless as it gets and so was the rest of the procedure.
I highly recommend Dr. Lozada. -

My Dentist Brookline has literally changed my life. I used to be afraid of dentists, but after having a couple of things (one minor, one wisdom tooth extraction which I count as major) done there, I've gotten over my fear.
They're gentle, friendly, caring, patient, great listeners. The office is always spotless, has all sorts of high tech gear and gadgetry (which they use and explain to you with ease), and doesn't smell as dentist-y as most dental offices I've visited.
I can't recommend this dentist highly enough. Seriously, if you need a dentist, go there.Listed in: My Neighborhood

I choose My Dentist to do the teeth cleaning/dental exam for me, and it was a very good experience throughout. The hygienist, Irina was very pleasant and does her job well. Dr. Igor, did a dental exam very quickly, with professionalism. He was very warm and friendly. I would not hesitate to return for another cleaning or if I have any problems with my teeth.

I went to Dr. Lozada because of the positive reviews on Yelp, and at first I was very impressed. As promised, the office was very clean and the staff were friendly. The hygienist and Dr Lozada were professional and sympathetic.
So when Dr. Lozada told me that I had 16 cavities (on every chewing surface) that would require 2 full days of dental work, I believed him. He seemed to think it was perfectly normal to have that many fillings, and he said that he spent entire days with patients on a regular basis. I decided to get a second opinion when my parents reminded me that my childhood dentist had pointed out grooves in my teeth that didn't require fillings. Sure enough, the second dentist told me that the grooves in my teeth were not decayed, and that I didn't have any cavities. None.
I'm sure there are legitimate differences of opinion between dentists, but when there is room for interpretation in the diagnosis I expect to be told about it, and I expect the dentist to explain my options to me. In this case, that didn't happen. And when the room for interpretation stretches from nothing at all to thousands of dollars and 2 full days of dental work, I can't help but suspect that greed entered into it. -

Really like it here, kinda disliked my other dentist for impersonal service, to be honest I am not sure if I ever met my last dentist, I mean I met A dentist, just not sure who it was. My Dentist is a family practice and I really like that. Dr igor Lozada is a really nice guy who knows his dentistry. He has taken care of 3 cavities (yeah I know, lay off the late night sweets) and has done a great job on all on them, I recommend this practice even though they dont have Fernet Branca on hand.

The Lozada family is amazing! The office is very new and clean and they have really cool imaging techniques that show you each individual tooth. Igor's mom, Nancy (also a dentist) is adorable!! Everytime I call I just act to speak to Nancy.... she is too cute.
I have to say though, I had this new guy do my cleaning and he wasn't very good. He only flossed half my teeth. And he didn't polish me very thoroughly either. So i guess my recommendation would be avoid any dentist there whose last name is NOT Lozada.... they are not to be trusted!! --- Kidding! I am chalking it up to it being his first day and all.
Anyways, they do an awesome job. I can't say enough about this family O' dentistry :) -

Without a doubt the best dentist experience I have ever had! That says quite a bit given the variety of dentists I have seen across multiple continents and thousands of miles. The office is ultra-clean and modern, with comfortable chairs and nice relaxing music.
From the moment you walk in the door you are treated like a longtime friend by everyone in the office. The front staff are very nice and accommodate even late (only slightly more than 24 hours) appointment changes with grace. As you step back into the office the hygienist and dentist greet you warmly and you are quickly relieved of any anxiety that still remains. I have been here twice, once for a regular cleaning and a return visit to redo a few fillings that had come loose. Even though I was subjected to drills and grinding I can honestly say that it was entirely painless and I didn't even feel a thing throughout. The cleaning was equally remarkable, quick yet thorough and I left with a deliciously clean smile.
My Dentist is run by a father-son pair of dentists who know their trade exceptionally well. My girlfriend also accompanied me for a cleaning, and the fact that she stayed in the chair without any issues speaks volumes onto itself. She can be nervous at the dentist, but the dentist personally got her started on the cleaning and then brought in a warm and kind hygienist to finish with an equally light touch. For as long as my flighty nature allows me to remain in Boston they will be my dentist without question! ¡También hablan español, incluyendo el dentista, para que sientes mas comodo! -

My Dentist is the best! I highly recommend it to everyone I know. The Drs. Lozada are awesome. The office is very new, fresh and clean and all the equipment is extremely high tech and efficient. Dr. Igor Lozada did a cleaning for me shortly after My Dentist opened and it was the best, most pain-free cleaning I have ever had. Also the Dr. and his very charming Dad (also a dentist) were pleasant and friendly throughout the appointment. They even gave me a tour of the office and explained a lot about the equipment and their practice. They also have convenient Saturday hours. So highly recommended, if you are looking for a great dental practice, you will not be disappointed with My Dentist.

What can I say but WOW. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Lozada and his dental office, but I'll try! After avoiding the dentist for the last two years, I finally built up the courage and set up my first appointment with Dr. Lozada. His office is conveniently located in the heart of Coolidge Corner in Brookline. The office itself is incredibly clean (you must wear booties over your shoes which are provided), well-organized, friendly, and technologically-advanced. Don't be fooled by it's small appearance on the outside; the office extends way back with several patient treatment docks. The receptionist (which was also my hygienist that day) was knowledgeable, attentive, very friendly, and quickly had me registered and in the patient chair within minutes. Throughout my cleaning, xrays, and meeting with Dr. Lozada, I was constantly kept in the loop and informed of what was going on!
Upon returning the next week for a cavity filling, the receptionist and Dr. Lozada were again extremely friendly, attentive, and concerned with my own understanding of everything. Dr. Lozada continuously made the effort to walk me through the procedure before it was begun, and exercised both patience and compassion. During the procedure, he constantly asked me how I was doing, and even asked if I would like to watch with a mirror. The result: I couldn't even tell which tooth was filled! The filling blended in perfectly. He even emailed me the next day to check up on me. Now that is commitment to customer service and satisfaction. =) -

For those who commented about all the Lozada family of dentists - I can write nothing about Dr. Igor, but Dr. Italo is a F-UP of the highest order. He either used contaminated artificial bone material or contaminated it in the process of doing my dental implant. (As per the oral surgeon who removed it and is head of oral surgery at Mt. Auburn Hospital) When I complained of shooting pains in my jaw I was told that that was the bone growing around the implant. The oral surgeon told me that is the classic symptom of a failed implant. A year and a half of head and jaw aches later, I had the implant removed at great expense. AVOID!!!

I must agree with the other posters regarding the customer service at My Dentist - the experience of receiving emails and reminders from Megan, the very kind receptionist, and a personalized one from Dr. Lozada after treatment are great. Also, Dr. Lozada spends a lot of time and care answering your questions. That said, I am not completely thrilled with the professional recommendations I received from Dr. Lozada, in said Q&A. I had 3 fillings replaced (from a previous horrible experience with a different Coolidge Corner dentist, who I also reviewed). Because of the additional drilling and damage to the dentin that had to happen to replace my fillings, Lozada said I'd have to look into getting a root canal on two of the teeth. His number one recommendation though, over root canal? "I can pull them for you" I was like, is this guy for real? He went on to say he does this for a lot of his patients, who would prefer a cheaper option, to a root canal (which his office does not perform FYI). I got a second opinion on the "highest priority" tooth and was told I was fine for another 2-3 years with no further treatment. I know medicine/dentistry are not an exact science, but frankly, I'd rather find a dentist who wants to help me keep my teeth!
