Came here on a Saturday night after hitting the dance floor with a girlfriend and just beat the rush by a few minutes.  The line was out the door!

I can't remember exactly what I ordered...the lemongrass chicken or the five spice chicken, but I remember loving it and finishing it.  Got it with fried egg on top.  I love when the yolk breaks and runs down into my rice.  Yum!  Just what I needed after a night out.  :)

Bf had the combo pho and said it was best described as noodles in water. My bun ho hue was better than that but I wouldn't come back, it definitely could use more flavor.  I wasn't that shocked though, it's so hard to find good BBH in SF!

The waitstaff inexplicably started burning trash in a metal tin and placed it directly outside the front door. Surprise surprise, the smell of smoke makes its way in and customers start complaining about the smoke. I see passersby staring at the metal tin of fire. Nothing is done. Is this happening?  Yes, yes it is.  We went home and our hair and clothes reeked of smoke.

Great for late night after a night of drinking/partying. Its definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but it gets the job done. I cant say this is the best pho I've ever had. Yet, this is my favorite to go to in the Chinatown area. It is convenient located near the clubs and bars on Broadway/Stockton/Columbus.

    Price range: 7-8/bowl.

My buddies and I came by after an amazing night at Ruby Skye and we managed to run in before they closed at 3AM.

I had the beef stew with noodles and it was good BUT reaaaaallyyyyy oily. Oily like "thanks man, my poop is going to come out easier with all of this lube". The beef was actually really tender and delicious but the oil made everything a little unpleasant.

The place looks pretty run down, kind of expected from an Asian restaurant around this area. Sometimes that means really good food but didn't really work in my advantage this time.

i absolutely love this place! And not just because I was usually drunk when I first started going here.  It is damn good food.  I usually get the Vermicelli with chicken and an eggroll but the shrimp fried rice, raw beef salad, and Seafood with crab pho are amazing! The guy that's usually their late seems to always have on a mean face but he's a nice guy so don't let that face fool you! He always remembers to bring my friend and I a small bowl of pho along with our order.
One of thee best hole-in-the-wall hot spots yet!

It's been four months since I've been here. I came here after a solo trip to the city specifically to have the banh canh cua because I always heard great things about it.

I was hesitant to come in because the place was dead (I did come during off hours) and everyone working there seemed to be chillin' in the dining area. After debating about it for like five minutes, I came in, sat, and ordered. I asked if they could shell the crab for me. I was told they don't do it, which already made me want to leave because that would mean not only would I get really messy, I'd probably lose out on a lot since I have braces. Even so, I toughed it out.

I don't know what people are talking about. I have to admit i was really excited to try it and the soup looked great, but it was definitely lacking in flavor. I was extremely disappointed, and remember eating my food unhappily with a lot of the chili sauce. I didn't finish it, either.

Let me set this up, scenario 1: food at 2am after the clubs and bars are closed and you are drunk and walking around looking for food- 4 stars

Scenario 2: compared to all foods in general, 1 star

The pho is super bland. Their egg rolls are extra greasy and not flavorful.  Their supposedly famous crab noodle soup was udon noodles in neon yellow gelatin soup base with what I suspect is frozen crab.  It is very bland and i'm usually a broth monster... let's just say there was plenty of broth left that night.  Though one thing I want to mention is on the menu, the crab noodle soup doesn't list a price but says Market Price- it's $10 folks- this is not some fancy seafood place.

So where did the extra star come from?  Their service.  Not that it was exceptional, but you get what you need done, they try to seat you quickly and give you food quickly so you can get the hell outta there and they can seat more customers.  But, they do deal with tons of dumb drunk people, I think that definitely deserves an extra star.

Hole in the wall?  Check.  Open after clubbing?  Check.  Beef carpaccio?  Check.  Yeahhhhhhhhh.  This place serves up a mean noodle soup, and we ordered a ton of different items from the menu and they were all dankity dank.  On the real, I would highly recommend the crab noodle soup and the beef carpaccio.

PROTIP:  Gets poppin' on weekends after the clubs in the area close down so you might have to stand in line.

This place closes at 2am! Oh lawdy we in trouble!

My girlfriend and I ordered the above dishes and although we're decent, it lacked skill and flavour, but very authentic.

Go here if you've been out drinking out in North Beach or at the edge of Chinatown!

I can totally rave about this place. The food is delish, and that's coming from a vegetarian. This egg soup I requested was really really good. It wasn't over priced like the last viet restaurant I went to and tried (that place actually pissed my entire group off, won't name, names). But I do recommend this place for viet food or this other place called Pho 2000 right across from the Cova Hotel, which i believe is larkin and ellis.

-Went there after a hangover sort of night. So of course I had to order some type of breakfast plates.(Love breakfast plates after a night of drinking) Had the pork chops w/ egg and rice. Super delish, can't go wrong with that.

-Had a taste of my friends soups. I really enjoyed the seafood noodle soup. (Don't know the vietnamese name sorry)

-Hole in the wall, cheap. Parking's pretty bad.

I can't really give this place a true rating only because every time I come here I'm drunk. Noodle soups are always a good way to sober up.  I ordered the Bun Rieu and I thought it was too oily and little flavor.  I heard there are a lot of good dishes but I can only give it a true rating if I come here sober. In other words, everyone who eats here after hours is drunk. So beware of belligerent people...and its a plus if you speak vietnamese.

At 200AM I get this place confused with Vietnam Restaurant.  I only know I'm in My Canh because there is a lot more seating.  A couple of friends and I ended up ordering a boatload of appetizers and pho and there were all pretty good.  The food is served extremely hot and fast and the prices are very reasonable.

I still think I prefer Vietnam Restaurant over this place because of the banh mi but this is a formidable alternative if Vietnam Restaurant is too busy.  It's fast, cheap and cash only, standard Vietnamese.

This place is average. We had the "beef carpaccio" and it was delicious. It had a lot of flavor and the freshness of the mint pairs well with the thin beef. The added crunchy onions gives it a good crunchy contrast. The dish is around $14. The rice dish was pretty standard,  although they give you two pork chops, instead of one, which is good.

However, the banh canh cua (crap soup) was very disappointing. The soup is thick, like they pour a cup of cornstarch in it. It was not good at all.

The fried eggrolls are good too, I would order that again.

I do like the fact that this place is open late, till 2am.

Came here with the gf and her mother, as this is a well-known hole for Vietnamese food, specializing in Dungeness crab soup and beef carpaccio.

The crab soup is VERY tasty.  The soup has the fresh crab taste, not the artificial one that can be someone nauseating at times.  It comes with udon noodles (not my favorite type) and not very much of it.  There is also a paucity of crab, maybe a couple legs inside so there is not much substance in the bowl itself.  I prefer some way to carb load when I have soup, so I was a bit disappointed and had to have another meal 3-4 hours later.

The beef carpaccio is also pretty good, topped with cilantro, mixed greens, lemon, crushed garlic, and a few other difficult-to-identify toppings which provided for a well balanced dish.  Without good reason, I have a hard time eating raw beef from a place that restaurant that doesn't seem exceedingly clean.

I was glad to try this place because I haven't had the crab soup before (Banh Canh Cua), but I do not think I will be back.

I love this place. Very hole in the wall. But where else can you get some late night pho in the city? The restaurant itself isn't aesthetically pleasing, but who cares when you're beasting on a bowl of delicious pho. Like most pho spots, the food comes out pretty quickly. I usually order pho w/ tripe, flank, & beef balls but I heard their pho w/ dungeness crab is off the hook! I must try that the next time I come here, especially when its crab season, nomz. After a long intoxicated night on Broadway, a nice hot bowl of pho at My Canh will sober you up.

Tip: CASH ONLY! Also beware of your bill for those going late night, they'll try to rip off your (most likely) drunk ass.

I've come here a bunch of times now because it's soo close to where I live. I rate it great pho, pretty good service, and not that crowded/busy.

The atmosphere is hole-in-the-wall and super casual. I've come in sweatpants post-fun-night-out. Pho is the perfect food the console a weak stomach. They serve it fast and the broth and noodles are a pretty good combo of flavor. Friend also really likes the crab noodles, but I usually just stick with my favesies pho.

Cash only, and don't order pho to go. It tastes super weird. And they don't give you sriracha or hoison packets. F.

Heard it's great for late night... can't wait to try that.

Really, the 3 stars are only for the fact that it's open late at night. Yelp claims until 2am, but they were letting people in much later. Clearly there's some $$ to make from drunk Asians, so don't be surprised if they skimp on the meat and "forget" the sides (basil, lime, mung beans). Oh, and I don't recommend ordering the shrimp rolls - definitely not the freshest at 2am.

Huge plus that there's a restroom.

Wow, I'm surprised I never have written a review for this place.... well let's just say this place rocks because it is open super late! When you want real food after a crazy night of drinking... this is the place to go. It's sort of on the smaller side so it does get really packed after all the clubs let out around Broadway. Food is decent.. it tastes amazing when you are not sober.. it's pretty dirty but you know what they say about dirty places! Dirty places = http://bomb.com food (most of the time!) It's sort of hard for me to give a true, legit rating for My Canh... but like I said... it's open late and the food is decent.

I was cruising around in SF and decided to try this place out and it was delicious. Their Banh Canh Cua made me into a fan! I love how they are not shady with the pieces of crabs they put in there. It tasted fresh and full of flavor. The place itself is not all that great but remember it is usually the hole-in-wall restaurants that makes the best food. I felt disgusted going to the restroom there, it was dirty and I barely had room to move around - so I don't recommend using the restrooms here. The servers were very quick, friendly, and efficient. I will eat here again next time and try everything else on the menu.

Love the pho, the raw beef Vietnamese carpaccio and the egg roll.

2.) Beef Beefball Pho = Mmmm broth was good. Noodles were all in one clump, but after loosening it up it was still good. For a large, it wasn't that large

    SERVICE:
    Oh, you know. Muggin-asian service

Authentic prepared vietnamese noodle soup dishes: warm and satisfying  for an early morning breakfast in a hole in the wall shop. I ordered the Crab Meat Noodle Soup which I've never had before. There were claw crabmeat pieces with a very thick broth, very eggy. I tried the Bun Rieu too and my friend that eats that dish all the time says this was one of her top faves. I enjoyed it with lots of lime. Another small tip: the canned sodas they sell are $2 a pop which is a rip off so beware!

There really needs to be another late night pho in SF place besides this one. The food is okay but I agree with other yelpers that they do skimp out and "forget" the sides basil leaves, mung beans, and lime for our pho. I mean we ordered 3 bowls...I don't know how in the world they would think that we wouldn't notice it. There was another set of staff or maybe a family that used to own this location and they changed hands sometime last year I believe and the old staff was much friendlier and more generous.

The service is nonexistent and you do have to wave someone down even when there are only two tables full but eh I didn't have high expectations walking into this place at 11 pm on a Saturday night.

Let's forget, for a moment, that I once came here for the beef stew and spit out a piece that was full of fat and tendon only for my belligerent 350lb black friend eat it off my plate.

Let's forget, for a moment, that I once came here toting a bottle of Remy Martin and plopped it on the table right next to my teacup like I was the fucking triad king of Chinatown.

Let's forget, for a moment, our friend wouldn't stop bitching at the top of her lungs about not getting water...even after the water came.

Forget all that, just like how they forgot the dish of sprouts, mint and lime that usually accompanies a bowl of pho.

Forget all that, and their food is actually decent. Not quite as good as Tu Lan but also without the unsanitary decor. And they're open 24 hours. It's like coming home drunk to mom - she'll take care of you with comfort food but just as My Canh did, she'll reprimand you for the cognac.

I really like their banh canh cua. This place is a hole in the wall, so it might be a bit difficult trying to find it the first time.

The restaurant is also kind of worn and could use some aesthetic improvements, but so do most places in this area of the city.

This restaurant is known for the banh canh cua, which is a kind of noodle soup dish that has Vietnamese udon, pork blood cubes, dungeness crab, and other goodies in it. It was divine here. The broth is so sweet from the crab and seafood -- the broth is also very sweet and kind of has a light viscosity to it that I find very appealing. It was more than a broth but much less than a chowder.

I usually don't like soup-y foods too much, and I never can finish a whole bowl of pho (even the small portion), and I gobbled up the whole thing -- broth and all -- here.

Squeezing a bit of fresh lemon or lime juice on the hot bowl of banh canh cua with a few squirts of sriracha make this dish absolutely heavenly.

San Francisco is known for dungeness crab, so be sure to try this place out!

TIP: They do use fresh crab, so it's best to come here during dungeness crab season. Otherwise, most likely, the smaller less flavorful red crabs will be used in the banh canh, and it is not as delicious. If you're a crab fanatic, this will be of utmost importance!

Enjoy! I crave this food on cold winter nights. So good.

Came here after work with a friend. A hole in the wall describes this place well because it isn't a fancy restuarant. This place gets packed during weekends because the surrounding area are clubs and they open till 2am. Not many restaurant in china-town opens as late as they do and many of china-town only accepts cash like this place. The prices for the main courses were cheap but i ididnt go for the 2 pieces of spring/summer rolls...$5.45. My friend this was the only place she found that uses udon noodles on some of the options. The funny thing was the waitress here don't speak english well or dont speak at all... You need a chinese/vietnamese person with you when you order or you can just point at the order/ say the number, LOL.

I ordered #27 and my friend ordered #20. Good stuff. I was reading on other yelpers review on how their bean sprouts, etc... werent fresh, but mine came out fine. Both of us finished our food and left satisfied, definitely coming back here again.

This is my nitch place I've been going to since I was little. Always came with the fam to eat pho but now I've grown and upgraded my tastes to a different restaurant (for pho at least). But I do come here for their Bun Rieu. Very standard and delicious. The people are nice and accommodating regardless of how many new faces I've seen over the years. It wasn't until a few years ago that I found out that this place closes late. So if you're straggling around in Chinatown at night, hit this place up!

At 2 in the morning, when you have enough drinks for the night, My Canh is the place we come for some comfort noodle soup and yummy food.

    - Banh Canh - Vietnamese thick clear noodle soup  with Dungeness crab, pork, onion, cilantro, serves with beansprout, lime, and chili - the best in town!

    - Mi Kho - egg noodle dry with a bowl of soup serves on the side, pork, shrimp, and  much more love.

    - Bo` Tai' Chanh - Vietnamese Beef Carpaccio with Lemon - so good here!

    - Bun' Thit Nuong -  Vietnamese rice vermicelli mixed with fresh vegetables, mix sauce, and topped with grilled pork, peanuts.

    - Cha~ Gio` -Vietnamese egg rolls - also very good here.

If you don't mind the Asian crews (gangsta, OG and the-look-alike), it's a good place to come. Be aware that none of the chairs or tables are matching, but you will be lucky to score a table to sit down at the wee hours.

Service is quick and efficient here. I love the people that work here, they are just nice folks staying up late to serve me the authentic food that I grow up with, always with smiles on their faces.

I've been a fan here for 5 years!

Thanks for the round of 'TUDE! *sarcasm*

On Saturday, 4.2.11 after partying at Bubble Lounge, my friends and I came to My Cahn by default since Vietnam Restaurant next door had a line out the door. We arrived a little before 2 AM and snagged the last available table in the back. (Closes at 3 AM on weekends.)

This was my first time at My Cahn and I know they're known for their Bo Tai Chanh (Vietnamese Beef Carpaccio) and Banh Canh Cua (Vietnamese Crab Soup w/ Udon Noodles). However, I had to settle with a rice dish because I was a bit nauseous to want to try the BTC and wouldn't be able to handle the MSG in the BCC. Even though I didn't order their signature dishes, the food at My Cahn is mediocre at best and the bulk of its business is from satiating the appetites of the drunken North Beach party goers.

My friends and I started with the Cha Gio - Vietnamese Spring Rolls which were good. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The spring rolls were crunchy crust with a flaky cracker-like crust. It was generously filled with a pork and taro mixture that was savory. Parts of the spring roll were burnt, so it did leave a lingering charcoal-like flavor in my mouth.

I ordered the Com Bi Thit Nuong - BBQ Pork Over Rice w/ Shredded Pork Skin. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

In order to enjoy the dish, I think I would have to been completely drunk. The beef was chewy and bland. Other then the grill marks that added a smoky flavor, it was oily and tasteless. The pork skin & meat was missing that gelatinous and grainy texture and I literally had to bathe the meats in the nuoc cham (Vietnamese Chili Garlic Fish Sauce) to give it some moistness and flavor. Also, the rice didn't taste fresh; it was dry and hard.

Inattentive service is a given for most Asian hole-in-the-places, but our waiter had a stick implanted so far up into his a$$ that it gave him a permanent sour face. The constant eye rolling and disinterest in being there created a very cold and uninviting environment. My Cahn ain't no Gary Danko, but the very least you can do is to acknowledge your customers' presence.

Oh yah, apparently I missed the memo on the NEWEST restaurant trend...serving water/tea at the END of the meal.

So all I hear about this place is their banh canh cua!! So in hindsight, I should have ordered that instead of the Pho Tai Nam Bo Vien. It wasn't the great pho I've had, but it wasn't bad either.

The service isn't too bad either, they are pretty nice and them opening late is always a plus! But I think that if I am in the city late I would probably stop by here again.

Late night post partying munchies? This is your spot. Located by the intersection of Broadway and Columbus, there's usually a good amount of parking..even if you come when everyone gets kicked out if the clubs. Luckily we beat the food rush and got the last big table. The lady speaks Canto, Viet and English and gave us plenty of time to order.

*Bo Tai Chanh. aka Raw Beef Salad. Mhh this is one of the best places I've had this in the area.
*Pho Tai Sach! except there wasn't that much Tripe.
*Grilled Chicken over Rice. Seafood over Rice. And a Vermicelli Bowl please. All good and very filling. The only complaint was that the chicken was more charred than grilled.

fast service. open late. good food.
coming back unless there's a huge line (:

I want to slap people who complain about the following:

    1) Cleanliness - Hippies, hipsters, and idiots usually complain about these things
    2) Rudeness - Again, hipsters and hippies who think they own the world
    3) Cash-only - Same crowd, usually people who know nothing about Chinatown, its history, or its residents

I'm really bitter as you can tell.  Seems to me that certain people are expecting certain businesses to cater to them.  The more gentrified Chinatown gets, the more upsetting it becomes.  Chinatown has been run a certain way for a long time and for certain reasons.  Stop trying to change the people who have been living there and doing things their way for years.  If you can't get over it, then please go somewhere else.

But this is a food review!  All I can say is get the "Vietnamese Crab Noodle Soup."  They will usually ask you "shell or no shell."  It's a personal preference.

Imagine if you were to get a foot massage, a back rub, psychological therapy, a makeover, all while in a sauna.  That's what it's like eating a bowl of crab noodle on a cold day.

I honestly haven't tried anything else at this restaurant, nor do I care to.  But this one dish is what sets it apart from other restaurants in the area.  Try it.  I guarantee you'll walk away feeling good.

Just be aware, that it's not clean, it's not nice, and you gotta pay cash.  And it's not going to change.

So last Thursday I'm on my first day of food inspector shadowing as an REHS trainee and all the area inspectors are meeting for lunch at My Canh. I love Asian food, but don't get out much for lunch or dinner these days, but now I have no choice - eat out or starve. I had the mixed seafood chow fun and it was cheap and plentiful. I didn't want to eat it all because it seemed like so much, but I just kept eating and eating and eating...until there were just a few noodles left on the plate. I am still getting gruff from my inspector-of-the-day for my moaning and groaning about needing a nap afterwards. Anyway, the ambience is standard small-asian-restaurant, but the food and service were both good. We also shared some appetizers, which clearly added to the over-full feeling you get when your eyes are bigger than your stomach.
