Review from Orian I.
Tuesdays ladies dinners!
We chose this place on the rumor they were closing. apparently they're closing at the end of the year. which is too bad cause we just found it.
Me and Illana did a boil, mine with crawfish and shrimp and hers with dungenous crab. Shannon got the blackened catfish. even though the boils were very good, mine was very spicy. The catfish was the clear winner this night. all was served with cornbready goodness.
The place looks more like a thai bar than a soul cookin place, but the food was very excellent. pretty good price point as well. lovely good and lovely company with a giant bowl of shellfish carnage left behind. -

Ok, so it's tucked inside a strip mall, which is usually my first sign to run, not walk away, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this mini establishment. While the cocktails leave something to be desired, the Southern-style food was delightful, particularly for all day Sunday happy hour. (Be warned: at first it looks like it's under construction and closed, but it's likely open, just walk on in.)
The seafood boils looked amazing, and my meal of fried shrimp po boy was super tasty and filling - flaky texture with just the right amount of spicy sauce. The alligator bites and fried green tomatoes are worth a sampling and the cajan fries are a total winner. -

Make sure you call ahead!
I went there at 4 pm with a party of 6 and the door was locked and lights were off. I called a half hour later after all my friends I was with went home and he said
"we're we running a bit late...Sorry"
The food is simply amazing and pretty well priced, the service is definitely lacking. That is NO way to run a buisness1 Previous Review:

I finally made it back in to My Brother's Crawfish, and I dig what I had. Blackened catfish smothered in etoufée, dirty rice and corn bread. At $17 it's definitely not a cheap meal, but it was tasty and filling. The service was super friendly too. I can see myself coming back for more, for sure.
Now I want to try a crawfish boil!Listed in: Avenue of the Roses, Tha Montavilla Thrilla!

I'm from Southern California, where Asian Cajun isn't a new concept. I love The Boiling Crab, which most people consider to have the BEST crawfish boil. Look at my profile picture! It's me holding a king crab leg at The Boiling Crab!
My bf and I are big fans of crawfish so we wanted to try what Portland had to offer. This is one of those times I wish weren't so adventurous when it comes to food... We spent $100 for mediocre food.
First, they list everything as "market price" which makes it sound expensive. When we were at the restaurant we saw two people sit down, look at the menu and left...I think it had to do with things being listed as "market price". If they were to list things as market price I recommend having a sign that said the exact prices so people wouldn't have to ask all the time!
Second, it's weird how they don't make things spicy. When I asked for "garlic butter medium spicy" they said they don't do that. The server even asked me if it tastes good like that...umm YEAH it does. They should take a note from The Boiling Crab and give customers an option to make it spicy.
Also, the shrimp was listed as "Jumbo Shrimp" for $20 per pound! There wasn't anything "jumbo" about it! That's wayyyy overpriced!! The king crab legs were $30 per pound and it was extremely SALTY!! I don't mind paying more for great food, but the shrimp and crab legs were a disappointment.
I'm still giving them 3 stars... maybe because I did liked the CRAWFISH AND CLAMS, and their service was great. I liked the decorations, and how they had plenty of beer on tap! I would recommend this place for crawfish, but nothing else.Listed in: Week in Portland

Review from Aaron W.
As I entered the establishment, I felt that the place was just too dark and shady, instead of bright and welcoming. The walls were full of items reminding one of New Orleans. A female server told me I could sit anywhere, so I took a seat about 50 feet from the bar area.
My Brother's Crawfish offers seafood boils, and seafood is based on market price. Didn't feel like breaking the bank today, sorry.
Instead, I had a side order of their chicken and sausage gumbo ($6): roux, rice, garlic, onions, bell pepper, and cajun spices are combined with pieces of cooked chicken and sausage. Gumbo color generally should be between a "peanut butter" (light brown) and "dark chocolate" (very dark brown) color. This one was probably just past the "milk chocolate" stage. The chef topped the gumbo with some fresh green onion.
My server also brought a bottle of Original Louisiana Hot Sauce to the table. Now that's awesome. It's a cayenne pepper-based hot sauce similar to a Frank's Red Hot or Texas Pete.
From the savory chicken and sausage to the roux, the depth of flavors here exploded in my mouth. A pleasurable heat from the cayenne and other cajun spices. An ideal dish for a cold Saturday afternoon. In hindsight, I might have been better off getting a full entree for $12, just so I could get a piece of cornbread to get a little break from the intense gumbo onslaught. But man, that gumbo was downright awesome.
I thought some of the sausage pieces were not cut very well, and the casing proved to be a bit tough or unappealing here and there. Aside from that and the dark environment, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.
I read on their Facebook page that the owners of My Brother's Crawfish will not renew their lease when it expires at the end of 2011, so if you want to get some good cajun/creole food at My Brother's Crawfish, be sure to go before the year's up! -

Arrived on a Sunday early evening (about 5:00PM) and the place was so dark we didn't think it was open. Went to the first door and looked in and there appeared to be a few people there so we tried to open it and it was locked. The people inside just kind of glanced at us....so we tried the next door and it was open.
Walked inside and it was so dark my wife and I stood there for a moment letting our eyes adjust. The place was dead, there was one table with three or four people sitting at it. Pretty dirty looking and it smelled like fish.
We stood there for about a minute and no one even acknowledged our presence let alone said anything or pointed us to a table.
I looked at my wife and she shook her head a bit and we decided between the smell, the atmosphere (dark and unfriendly), the likelihood of getting a good meal and not ending up in the hospital might not be that great here.
The place is located back in a corner in a dumpy little micro-mall.
Ended up going to Portland Seafood Company and ordering the crab boil (which is why we went to My Brothers Crawfish) and it was great.
We may have missed out on a great meal, but neither of us thought it was worth the gamble... -

Loved the seafood boils. I was used to the seafood boils served in a bag with seasoning, so it was a pleasant surprise to find that MBC served it in a pot with delicious broth. We got the house spicy seasoning, and it was the perfect amount of heat.
We had the crab, shrimp, and crawfish boil with various add-ons including the corn bread with melted butter. Everything was decently priced as well.
Try the lychee-tini! -
Review from Penguin S.

First impression was great in this quaint, dimly lit eatery with nice atmosphere. And I suppose that for a cajun place so far from the Missippippi River, this was pretty good. But I grew up in Texas and am accustomed to great cajun and southern specialties.
Appetizers:
Fried green tomatoes; these were nice tomatoes, but the crust was soft and not at all crunchy. Great flavor, however, with the corn meal. I liked the sauce on top. Nice portion size.
Shrimp cocktail; overcooked shrimp ruined this for me. I love shrimp and I only had 1. I could tell they were overcooked as soon as I picked it up, super-soft shell. Meh.
Oyster shooters; OK, I'm not sure what's going on here. Not only did I grow up in Texas, but I lived in Maryland for 5 years. Normally, you order an oyster shooter and it comes with or in a shot of beer. These were oysters and a dab of cocktail sauce in a shot glass with no beer what so ever. The oyster was good, but it's a shooter not just because you put it in a shot glass. Derrr.
Main dish:
I had the oyster po-boy sandwich. It was a nice, large sandwich with good-sized oysters fried in corn meal that were tasty. But the bread was too hard, making it a difficult sandwich to eat as all the innards pushed out while the teeth try to grind a piece of bread free. It was mostly filling; lettuce and tomatoes.
My dining partners had not been to Louisiana or Texas, so this is all they know of Cajun. It's not bad for that purpose. But I think I'll keep the Cajun food for when I'm in the region and skip this place in the future. Don't let that stop you from giving them a try. Just be aware that it get's better.
Happy hour was nice, half off apps until 6pm. Nice staff, full bar, great interior. -

Asian Cajun at it best!
I was a bit surprised as I walked through the door to My Brother's Crawfish to see that all of the servers were Asian. I am not racist, it was just a bit of a surprise.
As we sat down, our waiter was quick to mention that they had a busy weekend and that they were out of Jumbalaya, dirty rice, and two or three other things. Hmmm... not a great start to dinner.
Any respectable bartender at a cajun food restaurant should be worth his weight in Tabasco Sauce when it comes to bourbon drinks. When I asked about bourbon cocktails the waiter suggested a local Oregon IPA. (Hmmm...) I asked if the bartender could mix me a good Manhattan and the waiter begrudgingly said "yes." The cocktail showed up a few minutes later and I knew that I should have listened to the waiter's suggestion for beer. My impression of this place was looking a little dim.
We started with oyster shooters and Gator Bites for appetizers and ordered the Seafood Gumbo and Crawfish Etouffee for our main dish. The shooters were good and served in little Tiki glasses. The Gator Bites were very good and came in a large serving.
When the main dishes showed up I was very pleasantly surprised. The Gumbo was crammed full with spicey and flavorful seafood and the Etouffee was loaded with big crawdads! The cornbread was just the way I remember it on many trips to New Orleans. Everything tasted just perfect.
I shifted away from the bourbon drinks with dinner and was happy to see that they stock a Louisianna favorite Abita. A cold bottle of beer was the perfect match for the excellent food. -

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. The blackened catfish was excellent, but I found the dirty rice and the chicken and sausage gumbo to both be a little bland.
I'm not much of a cornbread fan, but theirs was the best I've ever had. Very moist and tasty.
Service was prompt and friendly. -

This place is not worth the money. The atmosphere is not ideal, the part of town is not ideal, and for the amount of food we got, the price was not ideal.
We ordered a crawfish and crab boil with mushrooms (which cost extra..) and between having to viciously attack a measly crab and split really, really measly crawdads... the work wasn't worth it for the food, and the price really wasn't. The experience was terribly unpleasant, I just wouldn't voluntarily experience it again. -

Amazing Cajun food at this restaurant.
I ordered the blackened catfish with crawfish etoufee my first night there, and then the shrimp po' boy on my second night. Both were perfect entrees, and they DO listen when you ask them to make it spicy. I love that. My wife and I, and the friends with whom we traveled, had a blast sharing the other entrees: the boiled crawfish and the other blackened seafood entrees.
The two brothers, who own and run this fine restaurant, were also very helpful and cool with splitting our checks among the three couples. They go out of their way to make sure we all had a good time. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to try their beignets :( -

This place is ok. The crawfish are pretty expensive. Although when I went there was a deal that they posted on facebook for 7.99 per lb(usually 9.99)
I'm not sure why but they serve all there boiled food(crawfish, sausage, potatoes) in a big bowl of water from the boil, kinda aggravating since the water is crazy hot.
Anyway, it's pretty well seasoned, but don't expect authentic Louisiana boiled crawfish. Also they guy that owns that place is from Houston. -

Great local neighborhood restaurant & bar! Friendly staff - real southern hospitality! The owners grew up in Texas & brought their cajun southern home cooking to Portland.
Best cornbread I've ever had! Really good cole slaw! The crawfish boil is a must! Also try the chicken and sausage gumbo as well as the crawfish étouffée. Wash it all down with some southern sweet tea!

I went here with a friend for lunch on a Saturday. There was a lunch menu posted on the door with very reasonable prices--$5.99 for gumbo, etc. Unfortunately I did not read the fine print which stated this lunch is only available on Wednesday. Ok...
My friend and I both ordered the seafood gumbo. It was a very unappetizing brown-gray-green which would have been irrelevant had the flavor contained more nuance than brown-gray-green. It did have plentiful seafood of fresh oysters, clams and shrimp which were cooked well but the sauce was simply poor. Since this was not ordered off of the lunch menu, we paid $12.95 each for 2 bowls of very underwhelming stew. I would not have cared about the price if this had been good.
I did notice that the table next to us ordered the house special of fried appetizers followed by crawfish in a bit metal bowl. So I am thinking that to have a winning meal here, go for the fried bits and the namesake. Still, I am not enthusiastic to return because there is no excuse for poor gumbo, it is so easy to make delicious. -

This place was a little weird. It's tucked away in an all-Asian plaza...it's Asian-influenced Cajun food...which is good, if you're expecting Asian instead of classic southern-style Cajun. It's also a little pricey for what you get. Luckily, I had the check-in offer, which made it slightly less expensive, but still not worth what I paid.

Decent, but not worth the price.
The spicy boil sauce was delish, there's no arguing that. But there's a lot of problems here as well. The food took a very long time to be delivered, then to salt an open wound, when it was finally delivered to the table it was extremely overcooked.
There's really nothing too BAD about this place, but there's nothing really good either. It was all just, meh. -

Because I appreciate integrity on the part of business owners, I have decided to add one more star to my rating.
Khang N. took the time to send me the following message regarding my poor review:
Erin,
I am sorry to hear about your bad experience at our restaurant. Thank you for your feed back regarding the windows. We have corrected that now and I will personally check that myself going forward. If you do decide to check us out again, please ask for Khanh (I am one of the owners. Usually work Thursday - Saturday) and I will make sure you are taken care of.
Again thank you for giving us a try and I apologize for your less than great service.

My family is from the deep south and I am pretty well-versed in Southern Cajun style cuisine. My Brother's Crawfish serves pretty authentic southern style goodness --simple and flavorful -- as it should be.
The Crawfish Etoufee is delicious, as is the Crawfish Po'Boy. They have Beers on Tap and a pretty good happy hour. Try the oysters shooter! -

I was super excited to try the food here since it had so many good reviews, and was somewhat disappointed. I guess I was expecting a lot better from this place based on what everyone else said, but was served an "okay" meal.
We ordered the catfish bites, which, in my opinion, were th best part of our meal. Flavorful, and delicious.
Then we had the crawfish etoufee and seafood gumbo. Don't waste your time on the seafood gumbo. There were maybe 4-5 small pieces of seafood. Waste of money. The crawfish etoufee was decent--had a good kick to it, but I still think it tastes better at Jake's Crawfish.
Then we had the fried shrimp, which tasted exactly like a Chinese dish I've had before--weird. The sweet potato fries were tasty, but I would've loved a good dipping sauce to go with them.
Food aside, it seemed like a bar with a restaurant-looking waiting area. The place was completely dead on a Monday night around 7:30pm. I was expecting a brighter lit, nicer joint, but I guess that would make me delirious for thinking something like that would exist off 82nd.
Overall, it was okay. Just okay. Don't go there expecting to be swept off your feet, and maybe your meal will taste better than expected? -

Being part of a Dining club really gives you the chance to check out many places and have a lot of mixed reactions to lots of places.
In a case of My Brother's Crawfish (MBC) I walked in with minimal expectations and left becoming a huge fan and would recommend it to anyone who likes very good Cajun style cuisine.
We sat down and the employees immediately got a table for all nine of us and showed us the great food and drink menu.
After all settling in and ordering I was very impressed with the taste of the food. The appetizers consisted of some delicious alligator bites as well as very good fried mushrooms.
From there the entrees came and I can def say that the everything that we tried was good I had the shrimp etoufee and it was to die for. The Crawfish was so good as well. This is def a place I will eat at again and share with friends :) -

We decided to try to this place on our first night in Portland based on the high yelp rating. We were not disappointed. We had the king crab legs with the spicy seasoning. It was not unbearably spicy. It was good, but maybe could have been just a tad bit more spicy. The crab legs were cooked perfectly and came hot and ready to eat. We also ordered a salad and asparagas. We were really happy with our meal. There are similar places to this in the Los Angeles area, but nothing even close to the deliciousness of this place. Sure, the customer service was stellar but the taste of the food made up for it. To top it all off, we used the coupon from yelp and got an insane discount on our meal!!!

I am not a big fan of Canjun foods, but OMG I love it here. The crawfish that is served in the delicious and spicy broth, make me wanting to come back for more. The Cornbread is moist and delicious. And the staffs are friendly and nice.
So far, i only had the crawfish, but might go back to try some of the other dishes they have, really interstred in trying the blackened catfish. -

Alert to all eating establishments in the world: I am always gonna downgrade a place that unnecessarily uses stinky cleaning materials near me while I'm eating! It's such an obvious lack of respect and customer care....I don't think the bar really had to be Lemon Pledged at the same time we were trying to eat 5 feet away....but maybe the person doing the polishing was distracted by the cell phone conversation they were having.
Food? oh yeah - some of the food was good (we had a crawfish boil; they seemed overcooked), some was mediocre at best (out of freezer sweet potato fries), and some was amazing (perfectly cooked asparagus).
Under-impressive. I'm fine with going to a strip mall for the right food, but a lack of attention (down to the stained paper menus and not-so-clean bathroom)....yeah, "meh" sums it up. -

Portland, OR
Went last night and was very pleased with the food. It's not a fancy restaurant though, and has a bar atmosphere going on (so don't be frightened if you don't get the atmosphere you were expecting).
We ordered a few things off of the very well-priced happy hour menu ($4-6 for smaller sized portions of normal menu items and $1 oyster shooters). Also, Sundays are apparently happy hour all day; a great deal! The happy hour menu has some great items on it like the crawfish etouffee, clam boil, and other items. We also purchased a couple orders of the alligator bites and they were tasty. We bought a few po'boys and some more etouffee and on the whole we were pleased, the food is very tasty. Unfortunately, we did not get a crawfish/crab/etc. boil, but if the clam boil is any indication of the tastiness of the other boils there's no reason to worry. The garlic buttery sauce that was on the clam boil was very flavorful and the clams tasted quite fresh.
I will say however, that the breading on deep fried menu items is a little off-putting. There's a little too much breading and it was a tad overcooked (especially for the gator bites, but the problem carried over for the fried crawfish in one of the po'boys).
Bottom line? The food is tasty, they have a good bar selection, and the staff is very friendly. Definitely a place I would recommend to others. -

The place was nicely decorated and very clean but the parking was a little tight. The food was very flavorful but a little on the expensive side. I actually added a little hot sauce to my Jambalaya.
The server was very friendly and prompt. I'd no sooner take a drink of water then look down and my glass was full again. The Cornbread was awesome for me but maybe a little sweet for someone else. All in all a good experience. Even the music was Good easy listening. -

Brother's is sublime. The seafood boils are better than the real thing, and I say that as someone who grew up on the Gulf of Mexico.
The house broth is a magic blend of cajun boil and vietnamese fish stock. Get the roll for dipping. Fried catfish is also done perfectly with light cornmeal and cracked pepper.
I think they are only open for lunch on weekends and/or Wednesdays, so you might want to call. -
Review from Simon T.
My Brother's Crawfish is one of my favorite restaurants in the country, hands down.I've had just about everything on the menu and I love this place, definitely the best Southern/Cajun styled food on the West Coast.
While the plate dishes are good, nothing compares to the actual crawfish boils. These are packed with flavor - if you like spice, ask for the house broth extra special. During happy hour (between 3pm-6pm), you can add on a 1/2 pound of mussels or clams for only $4 each. Definitely opt for the French bread roll ($2), which is perfect to swish around in the broth. And before you go in, call them and make sure that they have crawfish in. They can often run out.
The seafood is as fresh as it gets. The crawfish and coast items are flown in at least every other day, but because they're so popular they can often be in short supply.
My recommendation meal: 1 lb crawfish, 1/2 lb shrimp, 1/2 lb clams with 2 potatoes and 2 corn in the extra spicy house broth with a french roll. It's plenty of food but because its so delicious, you'll have no problems packing it down.
For the appetizers: the hush puppies, oyster shooters, cajun fries...all great.
I've always been happy with the service here. It's always with a smile, attentive and they even took care of my tab for my birthday! -

This is the type of place that anyone that's ever attended one of the SEC schools will instantly recognize: great food, good prices, a place to come often, a standby staple. Ambiance must be improving, because this place is now just simply cool. Red walls, chalkboards making offers in colored chalk, things posted on the wall, a few beer ads, some large black and white photos, perfect lighting, wooden tables and low appropriate music all add to the feel. The place would work for a John Grisham novel. By the, they also have a number of Gluten free items if anyone has dietary problems in that department. This place is 100% authentic to me, and by the way, I've spent almost all my life down in Dixie.
PS: I almost dare not mention this as an Alabama fan, but they play the LSU games here during the fall, and this place has a good, actually great, set up for it. -

MY IMPRESSION:
A friend flew up from LA last night to see the Portland Food scene. It only seemed appropriate to begin our tour at My Brothers Crawfish. There's just something about that place that goes beyond merely the "food" they serve. I guess you could call it "passion"... scratch that.. instead, let's call it "obsession".
Neither brothers whom own this hidden gem are from Louisiana. They were not traditionally trained through "le cordon bleu" nor obtain decades of experience under their belts.
Ambitious souls in the kitchen led to a dedication of providing the absolute best Crawfish boils and Southern Creole style fare this side of the Mississippi. Hands down.
THE FOOD ORDERED:
2 pounds Crawfish (baby lobster is proper slang for these suckers because of their size!), 1 pound Mussels, 1 pound Clams, 2 pounds Shrimp (which the longest stretched a good 6 inches when fully extended), 2 pounds Alaskan crab (ask for scissors) in the extra Spicy Broth. 4 pieces of cornbread (moist, sweet and generous in size), Sweet Potato Fries, Coleslaw (different than what most are used to, this was fresh and packed with some kick), some French rolls and a glass of Johnny Walker Black to aid digestion. - Between two people.
THE BROTH, Rich and Full of spices. The flavor was so good that we had to order a separate bowl of it just to soak the french rolls into.
SERVICE:
I just spent 4 days in Las Vegas dining at Wolf Gang Puck's Spago in Caesars Palace, an $800 dinner at MIX in Mandalay Bay, the N9NE steakhouse at Palms, and world renown NOBU at the Hard Rock. The level of comfort and attentiveness you receive from MBC's waitstaff gave me a similar sense of enjoyment that I had in Vegas last week. Even with a full crowd, I was amazed to see how alert they were to each table.
One should gather from all these reviews that this is a place to frequent in Portland. At least once, just to experience what commitment to your dreams can achieve. I'm not saying this will be the most decadent dining of your life, but truthfully, this place is: Beyond Satisfying. (just hard to find... hehe) -

Went in for the $7.99/lb Crawfish boil and the table ended up ordering the following: Crawfish boil (Spicy and Medium), Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Oysters, Fried Catfish Bites, Etouffee, and Beignets.
Growing up in East, I was pleased to see My Brother's Crawfish pull off some good 'ole Cajun food.
Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Oysters, and Fried Catfish all were very tasty. The breading was light and flavorful.
The Crawfish were excellent. Good in size and quality, as well as the broth used to boil them. Very good. The spicy would warm you up a little, but wasn't over the top.
The Etouffee was good, but I have had better. The best Etouffee I have eaten was at a Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. I will have to say that it would be quite a feat to beat Pappadeaux on Etouffee.
Beignets were very yummy, but barely had the room for them.
I will eat here again and would recommend it as a place to go in Portland for good (and economical) Cajun Food!
Two thumbs up! -

I picked up a coupon with http://Restaurants.com and had read the Yelp reviews.
Even though it's in a strip mall, the place has a cool vibe. It's not fancy in the least, has 80's music playing (which I dig!) and just an easy atmosphere to hang out in.
My boyfriend had never had crawfish so he had one of the boils. Thank God our wonderful waitress asked about the intensity of the heat because if he would have gone for the "SPICY" he would have been sweating. They even came out and showed him how to eat them.
I had the jambalaya which was delicious! Loved the hush puppies!
The staff was awesome, the food was great and all in all I was a very happy girl.
We will definitely be back. Thank you, My Brothers! -

This place is off of 82nd ave and pretty easy to drive by but I'd say it's worth the search. I bought a Groupon a while ago and it was about to expire so I took a friend to this joint. I call it a joint because that's exactly what it is. Family friendly but a joint nonetheless.
The service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the "gator bites" which were great! The fried green tomato's were cut a little too thick for my liking however. I ordered the blackened catfish that came with dirty rice and cornbread. The cornbread is wonderful and the dirty rice gets the job done. The blackened catfish was very spicy and a tad bit too salty for my liking but over all I would suggest this place to friends.
I saw several boils brought out to other customers and the next time I come to this joint that is what I am going to order.
