I first came across Muttley Crew in a moment of desperation four years ago, just days after bringing my puppy home.  I realized that there was no way I could keep the professional hours that I have and take care of my dog properly, let alone socialize at night.  Luckily, I got Muttley Crew's name, and Christine and the staff have been involved with our lives ever since.

Violet spent the first 1.5 years of her life attending doggy day care at Muttley Crew several days a week.  There, she learned toileting, manners, and how to play well with a variety of dogs.  She even developed a funny "baby sitter" quality with puppies that I can only ascribe to being around them so far into her own adulthood.

Violet continues to board at MC when I'm out of town, and she always seems relaxed and contented when we reconnect.  I like being able to have her bathed before coming home after long stays, and that is also a huge convenience.  The fact that MC will pick up and drop off dogs is an amazing gift, especially for someone with a very hectic schedule.

I was heartbroken when Violet aged out of doggy day care (I actually kept her in almost a year longer than I should have!).  She was just so well taken care of, and that is very reassuring.  I felt liberated to go out after work because I knew that my dog had been actively cared for all day, and wouldn't be hungry, stir crazy, or overwhelmingly lonely if I wasn't home right away.  It's as though we both had our 9-5 jobs to go to, and our own active and rewarding lives.

I am SO THRILLED that Christine and Muttley Crew are now offering dog walking!   It is a relief to have my dog back in their care.  I trust them so much, and they have known Violet so well and for so long.  I feel like Muttley Crew and Christine helped raise Violet.  I also appreciate how thoughtful they are about my home and my schedule.  Christine is dependable and above board.  She is very respectful and very smart--she runs her business like a tight ship, which creates a sense of peace for me as well as my dog.

Let me start off by saying that Christine is super helpful and accommodating. We were able to have a last minute reservation for overnight boarding and she even let me come in a little bit earlier than their opening time to accommodate my time needs. She also would check-in to let us know Butters was doing well and even sent us a few videos on YouTube of him playing with other doggies there. It is also affordable at $33/day.

The reason why I gave 3 stars is because the dogs aren't let out of the warehouse and there's no grassy area for them to potty. Basically, they all potty inside on the warehouse floor. So while Butters was on the high road to being potty trained as a puppy, it started getting more difficult after Muttley Crew because he was going inside. Once he finally was on the brink of being completely potty trained at home, I'd pick him up after work (so he'd be there from 7am - 6pm and was between 2 months - 8 months old when he was going there) and he'd come out crying/whining and rushing to find any patch of dirt, grass, or brush, and just let it ALLLL out. I felt so bad that I had to switch over to a new doggy daycare. This is enough for me to not reconsider coming back.

Muttley Crew is great! I first took my dog Suri there for grooming service and Christine is the best. Suri is a maltipoo that I adopted recently who is shy and nervous around new environment and other dogs. Christine was kind and sweet and I feel comfortable in bringing Suri back several times. I love the coconut conditioner they use and Suri comes back smelling so good after the grooming and trimming. The price is reasonable and the staff are friendly.

I would definitely come back and recommend this to my friends.

I recently took my Bichon Frise to Mutley Crew, figuring I'd try a new groomer since I moved to the Bay Area - Never again.

The crew was nice, but didn't have a clue what they were doing in the grooming department. The play area looked OK, but that's not what I came for. I dropped Faith off after having emailed in a photo of what I wanted her to look like, and explaining it several times. I picked her up and she was still wet, her fur had matted and they had given her a Poodle cut, and she was shaking. This have never happened to me before and Faith has been groomed monthly for over 2 years.

When I asked why she was still wet, Christine (not the owner, she was a doll - the other Christine) said it was because she felt bad that Faith didn't like the wind on her. I understand that, and am grateful they were kind enough to consider my dog's reaction to the air blowing, but I'm not paying to pick up a wet dog.  Anyone that has a Bichon knows, you have to brush them out so their fur doesn't mat up after a bath.

When I asked Christine why she was cut so short (and extremely uneven), she replied, "Well I gave her a traditional Poodle cut." To which I replied, "She isn't a Poodle!"

I will never go back, though the other Christine (the owner) was kind enough to listen to me rant and rave on the phone, and even kinder not to charge me.

Definitely not ever recommending this place to anyone. Avoid at all costs.

We started going to Muttley Crew back in 2008 and now have a second dog that we now bring there as well.  They both get super excited when we show up for a day of play.  We also bring them for overnight stays which is so helpful.  They have been more than accomodating to us and we are still there after almost 4 years for a reason.  Our dogs are like kids to us and we trust Muttel Crew so very much.  If anyone ever has any potty issues or aren't doing well, we know right away.  The staff and Christine are AWESOME.  Our little one has a head-splitting bark from time to time and they take it with a grain of salt.  We feel awful when she does it on occasion but they always welcome them with open arms! Our smaller dog also gets groomed there and we have always been very pleased with the service they provide (the only reason we don't have the older one groomed is she doesn't need it :))

After reading some of the bad reviews about the grooming services here, I felt compelled to write a review right away. I have always been very satisfied with the grooming services at Muttley Crew. We usually get something pretty basic - just a trim - so I can't speak for those dog owners whose pups need a little more maintenance or have fancy hair-dos, but I have always been happy with the grooming services.

I am VERY picky when it comes to my dog and who I trust her with. I would never leave her someplace that I wasn't 100% comfortable with. I find the grooming staff to be competent, knowledgable, and responsible. Plus, I honestly think that they do a good job making her look how I want!

Also, Muttley Crew is certainly one of the less expensive places to get a small dog groomed in the city--$40 for a full-service groom is a great deal no matter how you look at it. Considering that I was paying almost $70 to get less at our previous groomer, I have been extremely happy with the reasonable pricing. I don't care how fancy/boutiquey my grooming place is and I don't like to pay a lot of money just because this is the city and people can get away with it.

I would check this place out for their grooming services before you write them off based on the negative yelp reviews. You can always go talk to the groomer about your concerns, she is very friendly and happy to chat.

Be careful, my dog broke her leg here!

My puppy had been going to Muttley Crew for less than a month when I received a phone call at noon from Christine informing me that Chelsea was at the hospital and had been diagnosed with a broken leg.

In the first few days after the incident I offered Christine what I thought was an incredibly fair offer of paying for half the surgery or providing store credit for the full amount of the procedure which will be near $5000 (including all checkup appointments).  Christine said she'd like to talk in 6 weeks when Chelsea goes for her follow up appointment and suggested offering half in store credit.  Given that the marginal cost of an additional dog at her facility is quite low I felt that her offer was incredibly unreasonable.

I'm not sure how Chelsea broke her leg but when I picked her up once, she was in the same play pen as large dogs (she's a 4 pound puppy).  They told me that when they only have a few small dogs, they'll mix the two groups.  I deferred to their judgement at the time but in retrospect I wonder if this is how Chelsea broke her leg.

Unfortunately, Muttley Crew does not have web cams of their facilities so I'll never know for sure.

I really used to LOVE this place, however I've been increasingly concerned as of late. One reason I originally started boarding here was that they limited boarding to like 4-5 dogs. I figured the expense was worth it. Then the prices went up and they started boarding about 3x's as many dogs--at least. Seems they should have told me about boarding more dogs since that was one of their selling points. I'm guessing they are overwhelmed because now my dog's bedding is always soaked in urine when I pick her up and I noticed the last time I dropped her off she was anxious and had her tail curled under her--not typical for previous dropoffs. I'm trying to give them a shot, but I feel like I need to find a new boarder. I did appreciate getting a deal on my last boarding since it was an extended stay--$10 off per day for 10 days.

over the winter of 2009-2010, muttely crew's play group and boarding practices included:

    1) yelling at the dogs by staff

    2) spraying the dogs with water, or even worse, bitter apple in the face.

    3) not allowing owners to have a tour of the facility or to have access to puppy cams like other doggy day care businesses do (hmmm...i wonder what she is hiding).

    4) misleading clients by telling them walks were included with the price of boarding and/or daycare.

    5) limiting access to water in the play groups to only once per day for about 15-30 minutes.

    6) boarding dogs in a facility that had no heating.

whether these things still occur, i do not know, but i feel that all dog owners who bring thier dog to muttley and to people who are looking for somewhere to take thier dog should know that they at one time (at least) *did* occur.

Simba is a dog that fears nothing, plays well with all dogs in the park and loves all humans, and we believe part of it is because he has been going to Muttley Crew since he was a little pup.

The first day we left him there, they looked at all his vaccinations and had an eye on how he socialized with others.  As nervous parents, we really appreciated the mid day email confirming he was doing fine. By the end of that day, we picked him up and he was so happy that we needed no more reassurance. We had picked the right place.

Four months later, Simba still goes to Muttley Crew when he can't come to work with us or if we have to leave town. He has stayed there for full days, half days and three days at the time and Christine is extremely flexible, attentive and is as good as a business person as she is a dog person. The billing system and the pickup hours are very convenient, the place is very clean and most of the employees are very nice, following her personality. I have never used a doggy day care and have no point of comparison, but so far, I have no complains.

Yes, occasionally Simba comes home with a scratch or a small wound, which also happens when I take him to the park, and that, along with his waggy tail, tells me he has been playing a lot, and that's precisely why he loves going there and why we love when he goes there. A tired puppy is a happy family!

OK, so I NEVER write yelp reviews. I actually opened an account just to give Muttley Crew the 5 stars they deserve. They did an excellent job grooming my dog who is really difficult to groom because she tends to be a nervous nelly around new people. Best part: they squeezed her in around 5:00 pm on a Friday night and had her all clean and cuddly in less than 1.5 hours. I highly recommend Muttley Crew and look forward to taking my pup back to them for their grooming services.

When I first got my Standard Poodle puppy, I began taking him to Muttley Crew based on the recommendation of my dentist (who, like me, is very picky about who takes care of his dog).

My experience at Muttley Crew has validated everything he said.  My dog has a safe place to play with other dogs and comes home tired and happy.  It is clear that Christine and her team really care about the dogs; they either call or email me with heads-up on anything unusual (e.g.,  he once had an upset tummy; once his neuter site incision suddenly became irritated and their call me to take him to the vet who discovered he was having an allergic reaction to his sutures, etc.)  The Muttley Crew team has also taken in stride the special handling requirements of my dog's food (he is on a raw diet) when I am away and he stays overnight.  I have also found Christine to be a tremendous resource; she is full of helpful tips on  topics ranging from dealing with minor GI upsets to safe handling of raw marrow bones.

Last but not least, my dog LOVES going to Muttley Crew.  He can hardly contain his excitement when I drop him off!  What more could a "helicopter dog mom" want in a doggy daycare provider?

I'm with Tom N., our pug loves, Loves, LOVES Christine, she gets all excited when Christine comes to pick her up.  The reinforcement of good leash and crate habits that Christine provides is invaluable and very hard to find we've discovered.  An added bonus is that we can send our pug to Muttley Crew for several days and she's still clean when she comes home.  We've sent her to other doggie daycares where she has come home completely covered in filth.

    Christine is simply the best.

Our English Bulldog, Stella, has been attending full-time puppy playtime at MC for almost almost a year and both she and we love it and highly recommend it.

We recommend puppy daycare for the socialization that your pup receives - a necessity in SF where dogs outnumber people. When we are out, Stella is very friendly around other dogs, big and small. We also saw immediate results around bite inhibition. When Stella was a puppy she would chase after our pantlegs and not let go. We tried to enforce bite inhibition but one day at MC and her biting immediately stopped. The other dogs must have given her a lesson and much more quickly than us alphas can!

MC's owner, Christine, is a compassionate dog owner herself and very knowlegeable about holistic remedies, food, training, etc. She has provided invaluable advice that has no doubt saved us in vet bills.

As a business owner, Christine is also very proactive and organized. When Stella has an upset tummy or just isn't feeling well, christine is proactive with texting updates or emails that give us piece of mind.

The dogs play, nap, eat, poop, and play again. The naps are taken in crates which further reinforces your crate training. And all playtime is supervised. She even posts videos of the pups playing so you can see how your baby is doing during the day.

The facility is large and immaculate and cleaned with non-toxic products. Visit and you'll be amazed at the lack of doggie smell.

The pickup/dropoff service is great for us working stiffs (or you can opt to do it yourself at a lower rate) and Christine has always proven herself to be trustworthy and respectful of our home.

The rates are competitive with dogwalking services that have your dog for a fraction of the time.

We highly recommend MC and urge you to visit the facility and meet Christine - you and your pup will be very happy.

    Ace loves Muttley Crew!!!!!

I am lucky to have this place close by for my son/puppy Ace. He gets so excited when he gets to the door to get dropped off. The staff is so nice and greet Ace and I with warm enthusiasm. Christine the owner of the company is very down to earth and good at giving me feedback on Ace. Throughout the day the puppies are filmed and the vid clips go up on YouTube. Which is my favorite thing ever! I can see who Ace plays with and how happy he looks and I can forward the vid clips to friends and family. When he comes home he is dead tired. I am so stoked!! A tired puppy lets me be able to clean the house!!

I dread the day when Ace outgrows puppy daycare because this place is great!!

I have two large breed dogs (Boarder Collie and a Lab) and they were given the care and attention that I woudl have only expected from my Wife or I.

I love Muttley Crew! We started taking our 4 month old puppy there last week and I was a bit worried at first when they told me she wasn't eating, drinking, or going to the bathroom. After two days of this, I voiced my concerns to them and they were on it immediately. They started drizzling salmon oil on her food which she really loved, and finally she was eating regularly. That very day she started going to the bathroom too. To help ease my concerns, Christine would send me frequent emails about how she was doing and if she was playing with other dogs. She even posted a video of her playing on youtube!

The handlers are really great with her and seem genuinely passionate and excited about dogs. They're all really friendly and are constantly providing me with updates when I pick her up at night. What's great is that they separate large dogs from small dogs, and are always monitoring the play to make sure it doesn't get too aggressive. When our dog is tired of playing but it isn't nap time, they put her in her crate anyway and let her get rested. So I really appreciate that they treat the dogs individually and don't force them to do anything they aren't ready for or comfortable with.

The hours are awesome, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are all professional and friendly. And most importantly, our dog is happy and even excited when she sees the daycare doors.

Bumping up my original review to 4 stars! Christine always comes through in a pinch and accommodates our (lame) last-minute panicked requests with aplomb.  Make sure you reserve early for holidays!

    =========================
    Original review 1/3/2007

Muttley Crew is immaculate, fresh-smelling and virtually spotless, unlike K9 to 5 in the SoMA which always has a lingering, rather unpleasant stench of stale dogpiss and god knows what else...

Christine runs a nice regimented routine where doggies get several walks a day, group playtime, and naptime as needed.  Note that naptime (and boarding) takes place in segregated "kennels" -- actual separate rooms for your pup.  If your pup is social, she may not take to being separated from her playmates too well... just something to think about.

But! MC/ Christine saved us 2 weeks ago when we had a last-minute daycare request and very kindly waited until I was able to drop our Harlow off in the morning before she proceeded on her regular pickup run.  She only boards a few pups at a time, and has a strict reservation/ cancellation policy for boarders.  All in all, highly recommended.

I love Muttley Crew. I've know Kristine several years now and have observed her operation up close (I teach training classes there). It's fantastic. Small scale puppy day care - the only day care dedicated to pups only in SF (as far as I know) and great, limited scale boarding - 4 dogs at a time.

In my position as a trainer I've had the opportunity to visit many day cares. Kristine's is easily among the best. Not only is the facility great but Kristine is a consummate professional. I would be more than happy to leave my dog with her and recommend her fully.

I took my rescue muttigree Scruffy to Christine for a grooming.  He is such a handsome boy now, and gets so many compliments on his looks.  People don't understand why I named him Scruffy, but this is only after Christine has worked her magic on him with kindness and patience.   Scruffy has separation anxiety and is losing his sight.  After his most recent bath and cut, I took him to Burlingame's Pet Parade.  He more than held his own with the best of the best, he stands a little taller and there is a spring in his step after a visit with Christine.  Many thanks!

    The Best!

First of all Christine is so great with our dog Miso. She's patient, kind, and keeps a close eye on our pup if something seems off. No doubt she does it for all the dogs that are in her care and no doubt she would do it for yours.

Most importantly, Miso just LOVES her and she runs around like crazy when she hears the buzzer ring knowing that it's Christine. It's very sweet and reassuring because I know she's treated well and is happy.

Trust me. You won't find a better place for your four legged fur ball.

    Amazing!
We had to leave town suddenly and no one would take our puppy with only 3 sets of shots. Muttley Crew accepts puppies as long as they have 2 sets of shots.
Polly - our Standard Poodle puppy, was a spaz around other dogs- then she spent a few days at Muttley Crew and came back a much more confident dog.
During the week the boarded dogs hang out with the playcare puppies, so there's a ton of interaction. On weekends they hand around the training classes.
Allison is so welcoming, friendly and professional. She helped us out when we were in a tight situation and really had us at ease when we dropped off our puppy. She sent us a text message to let us know how Polly's first night went and directed us on how to find some videos on Youtube of Polly playing.
It was a wonderful experience and I recommend it for anyone who needs a kennel or wants their pup to socialize.

Muttley Crew is amazing! They really saved the day (or actually, a long weekend) when my original pet sitter plans fell through. Not only did they get back to me immediately on incredibly short notice, but they were kind and accommodating and I honestly can't say enough good things about them.

Even though they have so many fantastic Yelp reviews, I got to check  the place out for myself when I had to drop off my dog's paperwork and I was duly impressed. Not only was the facility top-notch, the staff gave off a positive, caring vibe and I spent the 4 days away from my dog almost entirely worry-free, which is saying ALOT because I am a bit on the overprotective side.

My dog was hungry and thirsty thirsty thirsty upon arrival home, which would have set off alarm bells in my head if the staff hadn't already informed me that he had a poor appetite while there, which makes sense because he went on the same sort of hunger strike when we drove cross-country a couple years ago. The point being that the Muttley Crew noticed and let me know and I really, really appreciate that. You can tell that they love dogs and enjoy their job, which is pretty much the best you can wish for.

    Hooray for Muttley Crew!

Muttley Crew is amazing!  They have saved the day for us many times and I could not be happier with their services.  My pup Samus is always jumping at the door when he sees where he's going.  I have gotten so many compliments on how well he socializes with other dogs at the park and I know I can attribute this to Muttley Crew.  He has been going here on and off since he was 3 months old and is now 6 months.  He comes home worn out, exhausted and happy.  The staff are all really nice and helpful and I feel absolutely 100% worry free when we leave him here for the day or for boarding.  If I could afford it, I would send him here every day for playtime!

I can not say enough good things about Muttley Crew.

I have a 15 month old French Bulldog who has been going to Muttley Crew twice a week for the last 10 months.  She just loves it. All I have to do is  tell her that she is going to "run with the puppies", and she will not let me out of her sight for fear she is going ot be left at home. Christine and her crew take such good care of my little girl. Most of the staff know my dog by sight, and they all seem happy to see my dog and happy with their jobs. Muttley Crew really understands the special needs of different breeds. Frenchies, because of their flat faces are not very heat tolerant. I dropped my dog off one day this summer when the high was supposed to be in the 80's. I asked that they keep an eye on her and was told that they make sure all the little "smoosh faces" were carefully watched on warm days. No crating, plenty of water, monitored for excess panting and cooled off with water if necessary. This was very reassuring.  In fact, any time I've asked them to watch her (after shots for example) they have been very accommodating.  I also get a text if they run into any issues during the day. Muttley Crew has recently added grooming services. I have had my dog groomed once. --they cleaned out her ears, washed her and cut her nails to perfection. Their prices are reasonable,  the service  is great, and the dogs are well monitored.

Maddie and I love Muttley Crew! Maddie has been going to play care every weekday since she was 12 weeks old (she's now 9 months). She loves Christine and is always excited to see her. The pickup and drop-off service is amazing. I don't know what we would do without that! They take great care of her and are really good with overprotective new puppy owners (like me). When Maddie was sick about a month ago, Christine called to let me know, and followed up to see how the vet visit went and gave some advice. The socialization aspect is great. Maddie started off pretty shy, but now loves running up to all the dogs in the park. Definitely worth the cost (which is very reasonable)!

I was getting nervous weeks before my vacation when I was trying to find a good place to board my puppy Lucy. Most places required dogs to be 5 months old. Fortunately a someone told me about Muttley Crew who specializes in taking care of puppies. I've left Lucy with Christine for boarding for a weekend and once for a week while I was out of the country. There are only 4 puppies boarded at a time and for day care, the # of puppies is limited. Unlike Pet Smart or other places where it's a disaster because of the human to dog to space ratios, there is plenty of room to run around here. Christine is very responsive (getting back to me promptly whenever I had questions) and communicative. She went beyond our expectations taking Lucy to her first puppy class. Muttley Crew highly recommended!!!

the place is big and well kept up. Christine is great and kind, and above all else is RESPONSIBLE. My girl comes home tired and clean (as in flea free) and the pick up and drop off is priceless.

Christine is the best!  I think our dog Baxter likes her more than us.  We have been sending him there for two months now and the experience has been very positive.  I like that Christine takes the dogs for most of the day.  A lot of other places only take dogs for 1-2 hours.  Baxter comes home happy and tired.  What more could you ask for?

We've been bringing our new puppy, Odin, who is now 14-weeks old to Muttley Crew for the last three weeks. Christine is absolutely great with the dogs in her care. Odin comes home completely exhausted and happy from his time here. The socialization he gets with the other dogs has helped his personality immensely. He has become less skittish and more open to meeting people than he has been with just us working with him. The facility is easy to get to, clean, and setup to really give dogs a home away from home. The prices per day are about average, with a little more for pickup and delivery. We've boarding Odin for an entire weekend and he came home very happy and content. There's no doubt in my mind, after hearing about some of the other puppy day-cares and boarding facilities, that Muttley Crew is the best!

I can't help but lavish praise on Christine and Muttley Crew!  Our first foray into puppy parenting has not been as smooth as we imagined it would be.  A huge help and comfort has been Christine, who in addition to running an awesome puppy day care (clean, safe, well-run), knows her stuff and has offered us great advice and support.
I highly recommend Muttley Crew for day care and boarding.  I can only hope that one day she expands into care and boarding for adult dogs!

I highly recommend Muttley Crew.  My dog went there for full-time day care when she was a puppy.  Christine, the owner, was extremely helpful and always had good advice for the different ailments that puppies deal with.  I have since boarded her there many times.  Wouldn't take her anywhere else.  Definitely check Muttley Crew out.

We recently boarded our 8-month-old German Shepherd mutt, Luka, at Muttley Crew while we were traveling in Mexico. She'd never spent the night away from us, and we were worried about leaving her. The folks at Muttley Crew were great. They took our nervousness in stride and were great with our dog. Our first morning away, we were thrilled to receive a text message letting us know that she'd done great on her first night. Then, later in the week, they posted a YouTube video of her playing with the other dogs. All in all, they made it very easy for us to be out of the country without feeling guilty. And, we loved the fact that the facility is secure and features an all-indoor play space. This came in very handy as it rained the entire time we were away. Our dog came home happy and healthy. We'll definitely use Muttley Crew again when we travel or if we ever need doggy daycare.

We love Muttley Crew!  Christine and her team have been so helpful since the day we brought Kaya home 8 weeks ago.  We simply drop her off in the morning knowing that she is in good hands, then pick her up end of day...at which point she's ready to sleep through the night (an added bonus).  Judging by the great YouTube videos they post each week, she certainly seems to be enjoying herself and making friends...not a bad gig for a 4 mo. old puppy.  Christine has also been great (and very patient) about answering questions, of which we have many.  We would definitely recommend Muttley Crew!

Muttley Crew is awesome. Gus comes home from puppy daycare exhausted & I get a calm pup to snuggle with. Their pick-up/delivery service saved me from having to drive across town everyday; it's totally worth it.

Our 7 month old puppy Oscar has been going to Muttley Crew for daycare for several months, and we have nothing but good things to say about Christine and the rest at MC.  We use the home pickup/delivery service, as we work erratic hours and often can't drop him off ourselves.  Puppy daycare isn't cheap, but Muttley Crew has better rates than most places we found, and the convenience of home pickup can't be beat.  He gets a much longer day of playing (a full 8 hours, compared to 2-3 hours at the other puppy daycare we tried, which cost $100 more per month).  Oscar always looks like he's having a blast when we've stopped by in the middle of the day.  He comes home exhausted at the end of the day, which is a good thing, and we don't feel as guilty about being away all day.  Christine the owner is very accomodating about our schedules and last-minute changes.  She's also been very helpful when Oscar's been sick, giving us advice and reassurance.  We've also used Muttley Crew for boarding a few times without any issues.
