The food is good, but from my experience the service is terrible.  I was there with my dad the other day and they had very little fries left.  The guy asked if we wanted fries and my dad pointed out that there wouldn't be enough for two.  My dad asked if he would make more and he just filled up two fries bags with the remaining cold fries.  Sure enough the fries were awful and the bags were half empty.  What a waste!  The food is usually good other than slow service.

The food is just like any other hot dog stand, except more expensive.

Watch out if there's a game going on.  The place will be packed.

Hot dog and fries here cost as much as a gyro plate at some other greasy stands.

It serves its area, and makes a fair buck on the more affluent crowd that frequents the neighborhood.  For regular guys like me, the price is exorbitant for what you get.

Clean? No. Friendly Staff? Not really. Greasy? oh goodness yes. Bathroom? not really, and if you can hold it, don't even ask to use it. Really dated pictures on the wall? Check. Obscene amount of ice cream in your serving? Check. Fries? Delicious.

Never, ever even TRY to go if there's an event at the stadium. Or a parade.

There's something to be said for becoming an institution.  Friends of mine who are North Shore natives say this place has been exactly the same since they were kids in the '70s. Classic little dive atmosphere where you are surrounded by pictures of Northwestern Univ. athletics teams.

Only seats about a dozen on stools but alot more squeeze in here and the place can get seriously hopping.  Its parking lots are contiguous with the NU football stadium.  As a result, you can imagine during the fall when a home football game is being played, this place should be avoided due to the crowds

I have to agree with the other reviewers that their dogs, although very tasty, are not markedly different than any other hot dogs you are going to get elsewhere.  With all due respect to Justin, I am not sure I agree that prices are inflated.  I just had two loaded Vienna Beefs and a large soda for $7.02.  You decide for yourself if that seems like too much for a tasty dog.  Worked fine for me

I visited Mustard's for the first time today ( a monday during a busy lunch hour). It was your typical hole in the wall hot dog joint, but with quick service, good dogs, fresh, hot fries and a super corny name! I don't think the place has been updated in... well... EVER, but its got charm.

My husband says that Mustard's has been in existence for as long as he can remember.  Every time we go into Mustards (which is EVERY FRIKIN' TIME we go to Chicago), the same guy is standing at the end of the counter. He also says the same thing - every time. About my husband..."I've been serving him since he was THIS (hand down to about knee height) TALL".  He remembers everyone.

Mustard's is everything that is GREAT about Chicago food.  Its fast, fried and fantastic.  I always have a #1, hot dog, no ketchup and peppers.  For the Seattle-ites reading this: a real hot dog is a Vienna beef wiener in a poppy seed bun, lovingly adorned with mustard, onions, tomato slices, peppers and a pickle spear. A WHOLE PICKLE!  The crowning glory is the liberal sprinkling of celery salt, the thought of which is making my mouth water as I write.

The outdoor seating is so Evanston.  The location, on Central street, near Northwestern, is what dreams of hot dogs are made of.

This place has been here since the 70's maybe earlier. Its a great hole in the wall hot dog joint that sits to one side of the main parking lot to Dyke Stadium ( when did they rename it Ryan Field ??)   Home of the NU Wildcats. Typical Vienna Hot dogs with the steamed poppy seed buns , they make Chicago dogs the way they are supposed to be made , outdoor seating on cast concrete tables in the summertime, pretty basic , but a great dog !

Not just a clever name.

Oh, wait. It is.

I grew up down the street from Dyke Stadium (not Ryan Field) and us kids used to walk here for dogs on our way to the now-defunct Evanston Theatre.

To be honest, I gave it four stars because its nostalgic for me. I doubt the greasey goods are any better or worse than other stands around the city.

This hot dog stand has been here at least 20 years. I make it a point to try to stop here every once in a while.   Even though it is in Evanston it reminds me of a South side of Chgo. stand. A dog with everything from here hits the spot.

I'm so glad this little stand is still around.  In the 80's, it used to have more of an "underground" vibe to it simply because they offered something that no other stand did...concert tickets!  To this day, you can get a hot dog with fries, and U2 tix (for a big price).  It's kind of odd, but true.  They hand out these flyers that list available concert tickets for sale.   I guess this is what gives them a special charm!  The dogs and food are good as well.  And if you're going to watch the Wildcats play, you can't beat the location; they are right down the street from the infamous Ryan Stadium.  By the way...Go, NW Wildcats, Go!!  Rah, rah, rah.  (This "smells like TEAM spirit" moment was brought to you by yours truly).  Oh, there I go again...ripping off another classic rock song.  Dave Grohl would slap me silly if he read this review :)

Grubby lil' hotdog joint that has been in this location since at least the Carter administration. Food is good but not worthy of a pilgrimage. Pretty much obligatory if you're going to an NU sporting event, though.

I was here during a tail gate back in college. I was at an Iowa-Northwestern football game. I really cant remember the experience that well (too much tailgating I think) but I'm pretty sure it was good

This is a cool little hot dog stand that been here for a while. I tried it for the first time a couple of days ago, though. Their hot dogs were delicious and I am really glad that I stopped by.
