What a welcome gift to my neighborhood!
This 'tiny' shop has been closed for most of the 16 years we have lived in the Oranges, but it is now open, almost completely for take-out. The owner Mark Williams has left his job at a school to re-activate this family business.
I was drawn to it primarily by a new hand-written sign at the front promoting yeast rolls. We bought half a dozen (for $3). We liked them a lot and will buy more to keep in the freezer. They are a welcome taste from childhood for both of us.
When I looked at it from the street, the lone window and low ceiling made me expect a tinier place than it actually is. Inside, the café extends back into the building for which it is just an extension.
The entrance faces Freeway Drive East. The window faces Oakwood.
The freezer, a few posters, and the cooking area are clean and bright, freshly so, since they have not long been re-opened, but they're still working on the rest of the surroundings. There is a table where one could sit to eat I suppose, but I'm not so inclined yet. I expect it to improve. I hope they are on a good start to success with this small place. They seem very good people. Dab some butter on their yeast rolls and expect an epiphany.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
