Everyone, MAKE A RESERVATION if you are planning on coming on a Friday or Saturday night! Musso's has gotten very busy on the weekends, and if you dare show up without a reservation, be prepared for a 60 - 90 minute wait! And if you make a reservation, SHOW UP ON TIME! I recently had to wait for my table, even though I made a reservation 5 days in advance, because so many people showed up late for their reservations that it backed everything up.
One more comment..... it says Musso's is "not good for kids", but I say, if you have well behaved children, please bring them. Many of the current patrons have been coming to Musso and Frank since they came with their parents as children. The kids that come in today will be the loyal customers of the future! I have seen more and more children in the restaurant, and it makes me happy, knowing they are the next generation of customers. :-)
Again, I LOVE Musso and Frank! Best cocktails and BEST STAFF of any place I have ever been!Listed in: LA Cocktails... for people…, Time Travelling - LA and…, Things I Love About Los…

Review from Allie G.
Princeton, NJ
There's something about this place that hollers old Hollywood. And when I say hollers, I mean woman on screen appears to be hollering, but then a copy frame comes in with white letters in all caps that reads "SCREAM!"
What I mean is, Musso & Franks is old school. Like, OLD SCHOOL. Like, Charlie Chaplin's booth is on your immediate left when you walk in, and that's where he enjoyed tuna melts with swiss cheese for lunch and gin martinis on the side old school. Like, silent film stars, great depression, pickles in buckets, bathtub gin old school. Yeah. Like that.
Fine dining, tres chere. But you're basically paying to eat great steak in a museum, so it's cool. I suggest that you start with ordering a martini. Now, I like a dirty grey goose martini with dry vermouth and olives just like any other Karen Walker wannabe. But I would never offend the bartender, who's probably been there like 50 years or something, by ordering anything besides "a martini, please." You shouldn't either. They are delicious, delicious gin martinis.
Just go straight to main. The place is about steak, and even though they have a surprisingly extensive menu, I wouldn't get anything besides a ribeye or new york strip, medium rare. Baked potato or fries, it doesn't really matter. Just get a bottle of wine, coupla martinis, red meat, and no dessert or coffee. That is, if you want to be part of the cool kids club. Eat at the bar, eat at a booth, wonder whose booth it was, people watch, don't people watch, don't bother asking your server how long he's been there because he's been there at least 15 years. Stay as long as you can, too, because the moment you step outside, you'll immediately remember where you are and it isn't pretty. I hope they complete a successfully functioning time machine at some point, because I would go straight to 1919 (so I could enjoy at least one year with some legal booze) and I wouldn't come back. I would also make tons of money on sports betting. -

Los Angeles, CA
The golden age of Hollywood remains vibrant and affluent at Musso & Frank's. Before paving way to the syringes and nose candy (thank you Robert Downey) the streets of Hollywood were beaming with broken dreams and out of work actors (ok, so nothing has changed too much).
Established in 1919, Musso & Frank's is an integral part to the history of Hollywood as is the Walk of Fame, Mann's Chinese or the countless Adult video stores (open 24 hours for your viewing convenience). From the coat hangers to the leather booths, the ambiance evokes vintage Hollywood lore -- you can almost recapture the presence of Steve McQueen sitting at the corner table working on a Prime Rib, Whiskey neat and a "What the fuck are you looking at?" glare.
From the gent at the front to the waiting staff, service is unquestionably proficient. In fact, most of these gents employed have been at this establishment for decades -- and the professionalism on display is one of the finest in the City (let alone the region). Anticipate a half an hour wait for your order come dinner rush -- in that case, treat yourself to one of the bar's notorious martinis (considered one of the finest in the city). I recommend the Vodka martini (dirty n' shaken).
Lets move onto the grub. Musso & Frank's offers a variety of dishes: Steak, Chicken, Lamb, Roast and Fish. As for my evening's request...
-14oz New York Steak served medium-rare: about $36, tender but a little too much fat.
-French Fries: sliced thick and are my fav this side of town
-Tomato Soap: Thick and creamy. Complemented well with a dash of ginger
As noted prior, the joint can get quickly packed come dinner rush. Your best bet for securing a table, plan ahead and make that reservation or arrive before 7pm. Clientele is a diverse mixture from all walks of life; including local politicians, developers and Jennifer Lawrence (insanely gorgeous!).
Seven years from reaching it's centennial celebration, Musso & Frank's remains without a doubt one of Hollywood's true iconic landmarks. As the region drastically changes, the joint seems to be forever frozen in a time that was once simpler. A time when cable "red" cars dominated the streets of Hollywood Blvd., now...Lohan working on her fifth DUI. -

I didn't actually eat here which is why I am not giving it 1 star. I was young when I had attempted this place just about 19 years old. The host said to me very matter of factly that it was very expensive. I was so embarrassed and my date (who is now my wife) was too. We ended up going to Hamburger Hamlet instead. I wanted to experience this world famous place and had planned to spend a little bit on dinner for once in my life. Oh well.. Hollywood can keep their little gem there are pleny of other places to go.

Review from Randy B.
Signed my first movie deal here awhile ago -- so it's special to me. If you haven't dined here, it's a must at least once in your life. Being the oldest Hollywood restaurant, the walls, ceilings, booths, and the lighting...are very much like a movie. Many of the servers have been there for 40+ years! It's a bit pricey, so you can just as easily have a drink at the bar, or a sandwich at the long lunch counter (seats about 50 people!).
Over the years, I've dined here many, many times. When Bobby is in LA...he's gotta ALWAYS get the Lamb Shank; Jack -- steak; Penn -- the chicken. Steve (Speilberg), always orders 4 different sides of veggies. Woody loves the tongue sandwich, and Quinten, Frances, and I -- we love the prime rib or the short ribs. Of course, the dinner with Mel and Michael Moore that ended up in a terrible argument (and caught by TMZ) -- so silly to argue over what's the better potato -- mashed or baked...get friggen both Dudes! I knew it wasn't a good idea to begin with, but my agent insisted on the meeting -- whatever -- BIG mistake.
ROMANTIC -- quite so! I've proposed successfully and unsuccessfully (a few times), asked for divorce (twice), and broke-up with girlfriends (several times, planned and also sometimes not). The staff is always very supportive and professional in all matters.
TIPS -- 1) Make a reservation. If it helps, drop my name; 2) By 6pm, it gets very packed with regulars, and those about to go to a movie or a play. Located along Hollywood Blvd, it can be quite a touristic; 3) Besides serving wine and beer (bottles only), perhaps you already know that they are the inventor of the Cosmopolitan drink. If you like a "Cosmo", it's excellent. Served in a mini-martini glass and a second short glass on ice for your personal round two. They have a wide-range of cocktails and martinis, and will make you just about anything you'd like. They've been around so long, they also claim to invented the wheel, and Moses worked here when he was in college.
CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS -- Two days ago, I saw the singer and amazing bass player of Rush -- Geddy Lee, who was diggin' ferociously into a Rib Eye. You'll be sure to see numerous celebrities, movie stars and musicians alike - just be cool cuz we like to eat in peace!
PARKING -- Validation is offered for 2 hours, and for a fee of $2.25, it's not bad. If you decide to park, dine, and walk to a movie/show or along the blvd for a bit -- there is a max fee (with the validation) of $10. It's $20 maximum for a lost ticket, or without validation. So, don't throw your ticket, or your money, away.
CONCLUSION -- The quality, and the quantity of the food is very good, but not quite as great compared to other steakhouses in this price range. Still, it's a classic place and has its own special unique feel that you can't just 'build' anew or on a set. Add it to your restaurant "bucket list".Listed in: Your ATTENTION please!

There is a reason why this place has been around since 1919! We sat at the counter, right next to someone who can only be described as the heart of the whole restaurant, the "grill master"! Steak, fish, chicken, and veal orders were coming in left and right all night, and he was able to keep track of EVERY order in his head- wow! I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon medium, and it was one of the most perfectly COOKED (thank you grill master), juicy, tender, perfectly seasoned filet mignons I've had!! We also ordered the steak fries and fried zucchini- a perfect combo with our food.
We finished off with a simple ice cream sundae dessert-- nothing fancy, but totally hit the spot.
The service is a bit slow, but this isn't the kind of place you go for a quick bite. Relax, enjoy, have a martini. Keep it up Musso & Frank. Keep it up! -

Today i went to this place because one of my friend said that this is one of her best steak place. So we got there having a lot of expectations. the parking the car was easy cause it was almost 2 o'clock and there were lots of parking spaces. This place is located on the Walk of Fame and we were pretty enjoying who they were.
Inside the restaurant there was not so crowded and bright not spooky even though this has almost 100 years history. The service was good: they were not very attentive but they smiled all the time. It was very comfortable.
The food that i died for is rib eye steak. We order two rib eye steaks and salad and creamy spinach. even though the way they served the food like an old school, it was pretty good. The rib eyes were so juicy and tender and one thing i really like was that the portion was pretty big. We ordered the medium rare and the meat was so flavorful. Baked potato was also good. creamy spinach was well balanced with other food. the salad made me smile. They gave us bunch of romaine lettuce on the plate and dressing. So we put the dressing on the lettuce and that is it.
Even though the restaurant is not so fancy, the food and service is good, and the price is also reasonable.
I will definitely come again. -

Excellent service and atmosphere. I had the creamy tomato soup which is really rich but very tasty. My bf had sweet breads (even though they're intestines, they tasted like fried chicken). The spumoni was also very delicious! Fun place to sit and dine

Nothing in LA represents good food and old Hollywood more than Musso & Frank
My steak here was excellent and the ambiance was superb!
Located right in the heart of Hollywood, this place literally hasn't changed since the day it opened - window seats will provide you great views of the Hollywood Blvd people dressed as superheros like Batman and Superman, while you munch down on your excellent steak - it's a fun clash that can only be found in Los Angeles
I will honestly admit that the steaks at Mastro's, Nick and Stef, Pacific Dining Car, and Houstons are better, but Musso & Frank is one of finer steaks in town and its ambiance can't be beat!
I will be coming back frequently, and next time, I plan to sit at the bar, right in front of the open grill

My wife found this place, since we wanted a steakhouse near the Pantages since we were catching a show. In a nutshell, the steaks were good and cooked just right, and the prices were VERY reasonable for a steakhouse. AAmbience around the restaurant was good. The tables were a bit close for my liking, but you are in LA, so the real-estate is a bit limited to begin with anyway. Parking is kind of bad since it is LA, but what the heck, I can't dock them for that. Waiters are all dressed in uniform so sometimes it is a bit hard to keep track of who your waiter is. Waiter had a slight memory lapse of who actually ordered the Bernaisse sauce... but other than that, the service was relative good. The real question is... Would I eat here again? ---- YES

Oldest restaurant in Hollywood since 1919!!!
Don't think that because Musso and Frank has been around for so long that it has lost its style. It is still one of the best places to get a meal in Hollywood.
Musso and Frank is like stepping back in time. They have a dark interior, heavy booths and an old wooden telephone booth still in place. The bathrooms are small with furnishings original from the 50's. If these walls could only talk!! All of the original Hollywood stars came here as their staple dining spot from Mary Pickford, Bette Davis, Greta Garbo and more. Supposedly Charlie Chaplin dined here weekly. The history of this place could fill a large book.
The food was outstanding. It is cooked old-school with lots of cream, butter and oil. Many of the cooks and hosts have been here for decades.
This is also an outstanding place for classic cocktails as their bartenders really known their stuff. Also one of the top spots to celebrity watch as it is so close to many famous spots.
Cannot wait to come back for another nice meal. -

Wow. This place blew me away! So so amazing! I might be a sucker for everything from the 1920s and 30s, but jeez, either way, I think this place would still have had this tremendous impact on me. We get to the bar area and all I can do is stare in amazement at the powerful atmosphere. I felt like Jack Nicholson in THE SHINING...without the craziness. A beautiful woman by my side. An extraordinary drink in my hand. Excellent service from a bartender dressed in a uniform from the Old Hollywood era. Whoo. I get chills just thinking about it. This is the life I should have had. Why couldn't I have been born just 70 years sooner!?
Sorry. Kind of got off topic there. But really, chills right now thinking about this magnificent place. Truly a step back in time. Unfortunately, we did not have a reservation and therefore had a two hour wait if we wanted to eat. Nah. Not this time. Next time we'll come ready with a reservation. Which actually might be next week. Awesome. Can't wait. Chills. Old Hollywood. Can't wait to try the food!
So EPIC. -

Oldest Restaurant in Hollywood since 1919!! Definitely a Hollywood landmark and institution. Classy interior that reminds you of what Old Hollywood and Old Hollywood money must have been like. In the half hour I was sitting at the bar with fellow Yelper Frederick G, we spotted quite a few celebrities.
Friggin strong cosmos, martinis and manhattans here served by old school bartender who's been there for 22 years! http://www.yelp.com/bi... at just $9.50 per drink. Can't beat that.
Definitely coming back for the steaks and various seafood salads. This is the kind of place you dress up for.

Wish we could have given Musso's a higher rating, but there were some fatal flaws...
Rating = 1
* Service - SLOWWW (waiter disappeared for long periods of time)
* Fried Shrimp - totally over breaded and delivered cold & greasy
* Vegetables - old, brown and wilted
Good points:
* Stuffed Celery - fun to try (if you like intense Roquefort cheese spread - but ask for fresh celery)
* Onion soup - outstanding
* Flannel Pancakes (think crepes) - wonderful
* Twice baked potato - THE best I've ever had! Light fluffy, great cheese flavor, crispy potato skin.
We would go back for the nostalgia (and the twice baked potato) -

Old, Classic Hollywood with Great Service, and unique Throwbacks to old drink and food recipes.. DO NOT order the norm... Try something unique, as you can get a mac and cheese and steak elsewhere. Can't believe it's been around before the Depression. Really enjoyed my meal and experience.

In my experience, all of the hate with this place is unwarranted.
I took my boyfriend there yesterday for his birthday dinner. I made a reservation earlier in the week for 8pm on Saturday and had no problem. The only questionable service occurred on our arrival when it seemed that they were surprised we showed up for our reservation and couldn't quite figure out where to put us. However, despite the initial stress we were seated quite promptly.
There are two dining rooms: the one where you enter seemed less noisy and was much cooler (temperature, not atmosphere) and also had a long counter with seats. I would have been more comfortable eating our meal in that room. The room we were seated in had a very busy bar, as well as a bunch of booths and tables. Both rooms were pretty busy when we arrived, although the front room seemed to have died down a bit by the time we left.
The food menu is pretty expansive and the drink menu has a nice selection of liquor, but the wine menu leaves a bit to be desired. We would have liked to have a bottle of red wine with our steaks, but the menu really lacked variety in types of red wine so we opted for mixed drinks instead. My boyfriend is a martini drinker and claims to have had a perfect martini last night. I tasted it, and would agree. In fact, I might enjoy martinis if they were made like that everywhere.
When we sat down they brought a plate of delicious, warm, sourdough bread and butter. We ordered the olive appetizer, which was really just a plate of black olives. I love olives, but I guess the appetizer wasn't quite what we were expecting. Perhaps it's lack of olive knowledge, but they just didn't seem to be all that different from what we'd get in a jar at the supermarket.
For our meals, we each got a steak (he got the Filet Mignon and I got the Rib eye) cooked rare and perfect. He got the mashed potatoes on the side and I got a baked potato. We also got the creamed spinach based on all the reviews of it. The steaks were excellent: quality cuts and portions, incredibly juicy and flavorful, and cooked expertly. Both the mashed potatoes and the baked potatoes would have been much better had they been hot. And the creamed spinach deserves all of the accolades that it gets on Yelp.
We had the raspberry mousse for dessert and also shared a grasshopper, just to see if they made it in the old, authentic way. The flavors really did not meld together well, but the grasshopper did live up to expectations (and is a much better dessert drink than dinner drink). The raspberry mousse was great. It had an outer white chocolate shell, a cake-y layer, and was dense and tart and rich.
Perhaps it just depends on the waiter, but we were happy with the professional level of service as well as the attentiveness. There was nothing cold about our waiter. -

Me: "I'll go anywhere with you."
Hubby: "Pues Vamanos!"
This place is OLD Hollywood, the feel is old, the vibe is old and the waitstaff are pretty old too!
With age comes elegance, class and experience, hence the 4 stars.
Prior to, we were given a tour of the Writers Room off to the side below this place. We felt compelled to drop in Musso and Frank afterward.
The service was top notch, excellent, the food was tasty and timely. We did the comfort food thing only because we wanted to give it a try.
We had the tomato soup (excellent flavor with ginger and thyme).
We had the grilled cheese which was filled with a sharp cheddar and toasted to perfection (like mom would make)
He had the mashed potatoes and I had a side of green beans with mushrooms.
Everything was tasty and the prices were average.
For those of you who claim it's expensive, take your ass back to Denny's.......this isn't a diner, it's an experience and a trip back in time! -

I need to remember that M & F closes at 11. Every time i'm in LA, I end up wanting to go there after midnight.
I like to dress well & sit at the bar and order a chilled avocado salad & a Hendrick's martini with an olive. In the words, of Andres Segovia, talking about another magical place: "Here, you are close to the paradise." -

Biggest Menu in Hollywood.
This place is a trip back into Hollywood of old, Small intimate booths, a classic martini bar, and waiters with white shirts and jackets make you feel special. Paid parking is out back.
The food is not particularly special. Neither the decor nor the menu has changed much in 20 years and you can still order a PB&J for $10. Not sure why that is still on the menu, or who orders it. The menu is huge.
Your best bet is some of the ready made stuff like Short Ribs or Lamb Shanks, served over mashed potatos, with endless bread. Add a martini and you are set for probably under $30, Despite its mediocrity, it remains one of my favorite places in Hollywood.
I guess it is the history and amibiance. -

Had the Chicken Pot Pie special. It was revolting. As this place is one of the oldest restaurants in LA I expected some sort of amazing experience. What I got was the top cut off and placed on a plate with the pie contents dumped on top. No yummy crust moistened by the pie innards. As for the innards: the chicken was cold at the center and the veggies were bland as was the creamy sauce. It tasted like school cafeteria food. This was not comfort food in the least.

I took my wife here for her birthday followed by a Wicked showing a few blocks down the street. We arrived at noon on a Wednesday and were seated promptly in the dining room. The restaurant was decorated fabulously for the holidays.
I ordered a gin Martini. I heard they were the best in the known universe. I'm sure it is fantastic if you have acquired the taste, but it just wasn't for me.
The bread was very good and there was plenty of it. We had Welsh Rarebit, which I wanted to try because I had never had it. Think toast, liquid cheese with bacon strips. I thought it was good but not fantastic. Worth a try if you generally like these ingredients.
We have fairly well behaved 8 and 9 year old daughters and they did well, but there wasn't a kids menu here. The 8 year old ordered mashed potatoes with gravy and a slice of ham to go with her Shirley Temple. She loved her meal. I just asked my 9 year old what she remembers of her Flannel Cakes and she said they were "amazing." So, there you go, my kids were happy!
My mom had the Roquefort dressing for her lettuce wedge and she liked it a lot. My father really enjoyed his French Onion soup.
I had the grenadine of beef and my wife had pasta with lamb. The meat was very tasty but there was a flavor in my sauce that I didn't care for. My parents had the sauerbraten and my mother in law had the lamb chops. They had good things to say.
Next time we go we will probably order an avacado appetizer and some people were having some very nice looking seafood cocktails served in metal buckets. We'd get those. I might stick with the steak next time and stay away from the sauces. I guess my taste isn't that refined.
This place is right out of the history books and I would say that we had good service. The wait staff got a little busy so our drinks were not attended to quite as promptly as I would have liked for a $200+ lunch. The waiter acknowleged that he had gotten busy which was fine but some other people near us were visibly frustrated that they were being ignored.
I think we may go back here sometime and check out the breakfast scene. Plan plenty of time just to sit and enjoy the history of the place.
The hostess knew we were their for a birthday but nothing special was done. I didn't expect or necessarily want anything, but I just mentioned it as an opportunity lost to go above and beyond.
This restaruant is worth trying out, but have your expectations in line. Don't get a plain martini just to get one. (Airplane fuel if you ask me!) This establishement has a way to go in my opinion before I would call it an "above and beyond" kind of experience. -

Historic, atmospheric and delicious.
I have walked passed Musso's dozens of times and dismissed it as a tourist trap. It's not. It's Hollywood's oldest restaurant and it impressed and delighted me.
First, the bar is right out of The Shining. I love this bar. Reminds me of the 20's, or the 40's, or even the 60's. Hard to explain. Timeless. Made me want to put on some red lipstick and smoke out of a cigarette holder with an Audrey Hepburn hairdo. Mario Sr., our bartender, shared his recommendations with us and told us to look out for his son at dinner.
In the dining room we opted to sit at the counter to watch our cow being cooked on their 90 year old grill. Indolfo, our steak chef, was very personable as was Mario Jr, our server. They shared the history of the place and chatted to us, appeasing Dan's need for attention but not being intrusive. We sat, ate, drank and talked for a long time and had a great night.
My Ribeye was excellent. A a delicious charred smokey taste and perfectly pink and juicy throughout. It came with Au Jus which really enhanced the meat. Compliments to Indolfo who's been working this grill for 27 years! At Mario Jr.'s suggestion, I got their twice baked potato and it was sinfully good.
The staff, the atmosphere and most importantly - the food - was all top notch. Bukowski sure knew how to pick 'em. -

Musso & Frank's Grill is in the heart of Hollywood. The setting is like a old diner, smells like it was open in the early 1900's. Old telephone booth's coat hangers everywhere. This restaurant is unique and one of a kind. Frank and Muso is a historic gem amongst all the trendy and hip places in the area. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, tender, unbelievably juicy, with a bold flavor that the au jus. The grade of the meat and the prime doesn't describe how amazing the meat taste. The lobster my mom ordered the lobster and no adjective can describe how delicious the lobster was it was cooked to perfection very succulent and juicy. I read reviews on Yelp the Spumoni.. it was soo good. Its like a ice cream cake of various flavors on a sort of graham cracker crust. The spumoni was great and I would recommend to order it for dessert because it was the perfect amount of sweetness and light enough to top off a meal.

Stop #4 on our Charles Bukowski tour.
Lordy Lord I love this place. Absolutely everything about it. The old Hollywood vibe, the long tenured waiters, btenders, and esp Indolfo the Grill Chef at the open counter. Absolutely everything.
My filet was one perfectly seasoned and grilled piece of cow. Holy Cow indeed. We immensely enjoyed watching and talking with Indolfo as they weren't all that busy for a Saturday night. Informed us he has worked there for 27 years amongst other tidbits, such as the grill is original and 90 years old. He did feel the need to clarify that the grate has been periodically replaced. Has a need to be totally honest too. See? Great guy.
After years of going here I never choose to patronize your favorite high end corporate steak houses. None can match the character and history of M&FG, as in no contest. They even include a baked potato here. My filet was $34, asparagus with hollandaise, $8. A couple of very generous pours of Duckhorn Pinot ($14ea) and this was one fine end to a great journey. Oh yeah, we also split a tiramisu, and it was tasty with our ports but it sure aint like any tiramisu I have ever had before.
And yes, Charles was supposedly seen dining here. Maybe after he got his check from the movie Barfly?1 Previous Review: Show all »

I first tried Musso and Frank's last year and returned last night for dinner. The experience both times was wonderful. For last night's meal, I opted for the filet mignon, cooked medium, with a baked potato and dinner salad.
The dinner salad isn't quite like the dinner salad you get at most places. This one was topped with pickled beets, feta cheese, and house dressing. They offered a generous portion and the taste was refreshing. The baked potato was perfectly soft and buttery.
But the steak nearly melted in my mouth. So tender, so juicy, so perfectly cooked: a little crispy on the outside, pink in the middle. Each bite was so consistent in its flavor.
Yes, Musso and Franks carries a price tag. What steak place doesn't? But their prices are spot on for the quality and portion of meat you're getting. They don't owe you their blood, sweat, and tears for that $39 filet you just had, so please don't act like you're entitled. Remember: no one forced you to eat there (in most cases, anyway). -

We just walked in there not two minutes ago. No reservations. Asked the maitre d' how long the wait. He replied "One hour. You wanna wait?" We said we didn't want to wait a whole hour since we had a kid with us so we thanked him, to which he replied "well I don't care then." Huh? LOL. Okay, guy. No problem. We won't bother making reservations in the future either.

I wanted to come here to experience classic American fare, hear said tales of the decadent, glamorous Hollywood days, & experience attentive service. From what I heard, the food & service had hardly changed, which is incredible given the modernity of Los Angeles & the fickle, trendy nature of restaurants in Los Angeles.
If other restaurants in LA are quick chameleons, this institution is a veritable historical monument, albeit one that serves food & drink. In my eyes, this is even better! I came on a Saturday night & questioned if that night was a good night to experience this restaurant for the first time.
There were groups of raucous, merry diners intent on celebrating a birthday, quite a few families, & tourists. The host was attentive but he clearly had to attend to many. The servers were professional & attentive given the hordes of people there that night. There was nary an empty seat in the house to be found.
I had heard that the martinis were excellent & decided to see for myself. My dinner companion & I both had a classic martini. Each glass came w/ another glass carafe as a refill which a server would routinely come by & fill for us when the martini glass looked low on the beverage.
We were promptly provided w/ white bread & butter. The bread was good as was the butter. No surprises or inventive twists here. Each of the items on the menu were at least $28. My dinner companion ordered the Prime Rib while I ordered the baked Halibut w/ mashed potatoes. Our questions were answered w/ haste as the server tried to accommodate many people that night.
Once we got our dishes, I understood the reason the pricing of the items. The portions were huge! My halibut was good but I really liked the mashed potatoes. The martini was strong & simple. Overall, it was a good experience but I'd love to come on an off night when I can relax in peace w/ a martini & ask the staff about those stories. -

Old leather booth place. Have been going here forever, and it's great. Been with me through the ups and downs. Last Friday was just like the other times.
First off, great drinks. Nothing fancy, but solid drinks. Vodka martini with sidecar is great.
Food. Menu is ala carte so you pick. The New York steak is great. enough for two. Fish is good too. Wedge salad to start is my favorite. Try the creamed spinach.
Don't rush your meal. Take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and your company. -

LACKLUSTER food and RUDE-AS-HELL service.
Definitely, not my cup of tea, but apparently it is worth it to some folks, worth the mere antiquity of the place, and for those who love the scent of dust and paying for overpriced, forgetable food. -

if you must eat a steak in the LA area, do it here. in an environ which pays homage to a time long past, you can feel refined and comfortable all at once as you make your way into the warm lighting of specialness. once inside you will be met by a maidre 'd of indistinguishable accent and elegant uniform. he will no doubt seem rushed yet friendly as he establishes his no nonsense rapport designed to quickly get you seated... and sated. what follows is some of the most delicious steak and sides I have ever consumed in California. The filet is a gold standard... and the braised spinach side enough to make a grown woman weep. Drink some wine but know that the cocktails come with vintage style branded swizzles so that may influence your choice. Come dressed casually or dressy - both are fine - but know that this place is most always host to local film and tv personalities - however, they likely won't notice you anyways, so dress up because you want to, not because anyone famous cares (they don't). parking is plentiful in back and severely discounted for restaurant guests.

A couple of friends and I participated in this year's Great Los Angeles Walk, and we stopped at Musso and Frank for a martini. What a charming place! Our bartender Mario was fantastic, and the martinis were nice and strong. I'm not a fan of gin, but I still finished my drink :)

I love this place. I have loved it for the past 21 years that I have dined here. I love that IS old Hollywood. I love that the trendy Bao crowd does not come here. I love that there are actual old patrons who have probably come here since the early days. I love the waiters, and the wall paper, the red china tea cups and saucers and matching plates and bowls. I love that when you come here, you are walking into history. Raymond Chandler, Orson Welles, Betty Davis, and on and on. We often go for breakfast. Always perfect. The Eggs Benedict were really nice. The Benedict sauce was really nice. I love that when you order coffee, they leave a big pot of coffee on your table. And , the coffee is good. I love that they leave a huge half loaf of baked Sour dough bread and a big pot of butter on your table to snack on while you order . The mood is mellow, quiet, reserved. I have also come here for lunch on a rainy day and had the Lobster Thermador, delight. I have also come here for a big steak and single malt Scotch. The pour is healthy, and the steaks are excellent. Real honest to goodness service and food. If you are coming to get a trendy , brightly lit ,fusion , paparazzi fueled low carb dinner, you should just walk right out the door. If you are coming to have a great meal, and a fantastic experience, this is the place to be. Oh and forget looking for a spot on the street, just park in the lot, get the ticket validated, its cheap, your car wont get ticketed or towed. Who needs that??

Finally got to try this famous place thats been around for many many years!! Make sure to have reservations! The steak is yum yum!
The drinks are super super strong! I order a Lemon drop martini .. it was definitely all I needed throughout the night!
Service could be better! Seems like the waiters have too many tables to handle.. The place still smells like smoke from years ago..
I would definitely go back! -

When I want to feel like part of the mafia - the hubs and I will linger on over to this place.
It's classic old school food - Nothing outstanding YET I always come back for one thing only - their sardine sandwiches. I love them. I can make my own but nothing is as awesome as knowing I can order them somewhere and drink vodka on the rocks while the hubs gets his corned beef & cabbage.
Come for good eats and entertainment [fellow diners are always hilarious, once an elder man [70+] got kicked out for being too drunk and hitting on a young hottie!
Cheers!!
