Musket Ridge is totally worth the drive from the Baltimore-Washington metro.

When it comes to service, this place is a step above and when it comes to the golf, this place will test all the aspects of your game. If you are going to succeed at Musket Ridge, you have to have pinpoint control and you have to putt well. If you aren't playing great, this course will take advantage of it.

Water doesn't really come into play, except on holes 1 and 2, but there are a ton of woods and waste areas that will eat wayward shots. As soon as you get to the Number 4 and see the Catoctin Mountains in the distance, you will realize just what an incredible piece of land this place is.

If you are a big hitter, this course sets up well for you, as the majority of the holes are open off the tee, but distance control into the green will determine the fate of your round.

My favorite stretch of holes is 11 and 12. Both favor a golfer who can draw the ball and penalize slicers. But there really aren't any bad holes on the course.

The course is kept in very good shape, and despite the level of heat this summer, the fairways, rough and greens are all full of color and well maintained.

Typically, the course is devoid of the really slow play that affects many of the courses near the metro area and they have great deals on the weekdays for the seniors. Look for coupons on their website and take a drive out past Frederick for one of the best courses in all of central Maryland.

Also, the food in the clubhouse is very good, so please don't just limit yourself to a hotdog after the round.

Attended a wedding reception here.  Really a top-notch place.  Beautiful spot.  The reception room we were in had tall ceilings with exposed beams.  Very open and not crowded at all.  There was a balcony just off the room where you could step out for fresh air and look over part of the golf course and the mountains (hills really!) beyond.

Food was very good, if not amazing, but more impressive was the level of service.  The very attentive staff made sure everything was in order.

I understand the venue is quite pricey for a wedding reception, but if you have a big-enough budget, this place is impressive.

Very scenic, with dramatic views of the Catoctin Mountains as you golf.  This is a challenging course, with a high slope rating and fast greens.  They keep the fairways and greens in excellent shape.  Beautiful clubhouse with good food - I'd recommend both the fries with chipotle aioli and buffalo wings, which are both spicy and sweet.  This is a good place to go if you want to impress a golfer guest; it's a long drive, but it's worth it for avid golfers.

*Tip: There's a really cheap gas station just off the exit before Musket Ridge, so make sure you fill up while you're there.  If you're dying for a McMuffin breakfast, you're in luck because there's also a McDonald's close by.

This course has some stunning vistas, but the price tag and major drive for DC area residents is a big impediment. For roughly the same money, I can play Whiskey Creek, Westfields or Stonewall and drive less.

Their conditioning, even after their bankrupcy is still decent, although its slipped, but their standard was so high before. The layout and construction is excellent. I love the rolling hills although it might cause a few too many blind shots, but its still a great track.
