Definitely fun place to go with a large group of people. Price is OK if you go with 5+ people and have a yelp's $49 for $70 certificate. Drink service was very slow that day for us.

It's OK. Kind of pricey, and no booze allowed. You have to order something from their menu while you're there--they have the usual array of tea drinks and snacks. The lounge rooms are reasonably comfortable, spacious, and cool inside. Music selection is decent, but not amazing.
There aren't a lot of karaoke places in the area to choose from or compare it to, so it's probably as good as it gets for us East Bay-ers. But even so, it doesn't compare to some of the better places in the city.
Bonus is that you can hit up some of the pretty great Asian restaurants in the Pac East mini-mall beforehand and make a full night of it. -

I'm trying to think of the number of times I've been publicly karaoke-ing, and I think it amounts to one Thailand Study Abroad group adventure at some prostitute-laden club in Bangkok and on cruise ships. I love to sing and do so at home all the time. So, with all that in mind:
Pros - awesome song selection; new, cool touch screens to select music; and clean-smelling rooms.
Neutral - The videos backing the karaoke were half actual music videos, and half cheesy 90s recorded stuff. Lyrics weren't always correct, either... (My Engrish is good!)
Cons - I'm not sure in the ways of pricing, but it seemed expensive for two people; the selection is hard to find in the paper binders (organized by disc, but how does that help you find by artist, genre, or song?) and always easily in their electronic system.
Would I go again? Sure, if it were a group thing. I'm not sure I would go again just on my own volition... -
Review from Lena D.
Karaoke and I are not good friends. It's my fault.. I can't sing! But we made our way here for a birthday celebration and I have to say I had fun!
The employees here are really nice and super helpful. They gave us a quick tutorial for the touchscreen system which was pretty simple. They had a good selection of songs but it seemed as though some classics (old ass songs) were not available.
A lot of people complain about the no alcohol rule which I would have to say does kinda suck. I've only ever been to karaoke bars with alcohol. This makes it so much more fun for those of us who can't carry a tune cuz after a few drinky drinks you think you can win American Idol! lol
The milk tea was really really good. I liked that it was a little frothy. I've never had it the way they serve it here and I am a fan. The popcorn chicken was standard.
I didn't like that the touchscreen was a little finicky. You weren't able to scroll through all the pages. You would get stuck after scrolling through 1 or 2 pages as it seemed to freeze. You also have to choose your language (English for us obvi) EVERY time you change categories for the search such as by singer or by spelling the name of the song. The microphones also ran out of battery life within 2 hours so we had to go outside to switch them out. I noticed that other people had to come back out to switch them out as well. If they know they won't last that long they should get new mics so you don't have to run in and out to get a new one.
This place is kinda far so I don't think I would come back unless we were celebrating another birthday. -
Review from Mitty C.
Fremont, CA
I'm going to admit that this place is a little bit of a drive from the Fremont/San Jose area where I live, but it's definitely one of my favorite karaoke places. The reason is mostly because this place has TWO-STORIES of karaoke rooms that are *loaded* with updated technology and songs. That and the service is good, and they allow you to bring outside food too (each person is expected to make a minimum of $2 purchase from their own menu though---they offer a variety of drinks and some food too).
The new touchscreen panel for the karaoke system is pretty legit too. As a tip...use your nails for the touchscreen; it doesn't seem to work well with skin contact. The price is $35/hr for karaoke on a Saturday night. Definitely not the cheapest karaoke place I've been to, but not bad for its facilities. Should be cheaper from Sunday to Thursday. Also, bring a student ID to receive 10% off the bill.
Oh and the fact that Daimo (a tasty chinese restaurant open until 2 or 3 am daily) is next to it totally gives it extra brownie points.
Would definitely recommend this place!
P.S. Minimum credit card charge is $25 (something to think about if you're with a group; have people bring cash!) -
Review from Chloé N.
Mountain View, CA
This is still so far one of the best karaoke place in the Bay Area.
Room is nice and clean, sound system is pretty good, song selection is wide, and it's pretty cheap. We went there one day in the afternoon, it's like $5 from 5pm-6pm, 3 of us sang for 3 hours with drinks and food, the bill is only $42.
They order the drink from the bubble tea place in the same plaza and the food from the taiwanese restaurant there, both are decent.
I'd say overall I like the food and drink from the Music Tunnel in San Jose more, but for the karaoke part, the San Jose one is nowhere near this one--especially in terms of sound system and price.Listed in: Drinks & Fun

Review from Alison S.
Came here with Esther Y. and some musically inclined classmates. I like Music Tunnel because it's generally affordable (drinks + 3 hours of karaoke will run you under $20 still) and the song selection is quite impressive. They appear to update it quite frequently and we've even seen more "real" music videos used rather than the corny stock videos that you often see.
The remote control is still broken though, but you can always use the touch screen! -

Great place to take Chinese speaking friends to after dinner or a http://meetup.com event.
Somewhat pricey but moderately priced if you go with 5 or 6 people.
Very updated Chinese, English, and Korean songs, but they could work on their Japanese song selection.
Required to buy at least one drink on the menu.
They've monopolized on the Chinese market segment in the South Bay.
Even friends from SF have driven down just to sing karaoke here. -
Review from Dmitriy S.
San Diego, CA
After graduating, there's really not much left to do if you're still in the Berkeley area. So how does one entertain oneself on a boring Thursday night? Karaoke of course!
I came here with 4 other people and we were quickly put in a newly renovated room. The worker quickly explained how to use the touchpad system. However, it took us a good hour to figure out how to use it correctly. If you touch it a certain way, nothing will happen. So you start pressing harder, and still nothing happens. Only when you give it a light tap with the tip of your finger will the system respond. So annoying. Also, you have to click on "English" before you search, or else all of your results will be Chinese songs. This was kind of a pain in the ass, but we got over it.
The selection is not too bad. The typical old school Enrique Iglesias, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys were all there. However, many of the #1 hits that made various artists famous weren't even listed under those artists. Instead, there were random songs that only hardcore fans would know. Not cool, guys.
Also, there's a $2/person food or drink minimum, so one milk tea will easily cover there. I wouldn't have gotten it if wasn't required though, so I consider it a bit of a nuisance. I might have forgiven them if the boba even tasted good, but it was just really bland. I got the mango milk tea and it just tasted like crap.
For 3 hours of karaokeing, plus the drinks and service fee, we ended up paying $105. Definitely not on the cheap side, especially considering the stupid touchpad system and so-so song selection. -
Review from Bonnie Z.
Came here on a weeknight to ring in the Chinese New Year way back in February. We were sad that they were only open until 1am!
Wide variety of songs (especially if you like 90s music). You can sing your heart out to Britney, Backstreet Boys, Lady Gaga, etc.
As expected they do charge a service fee. We used our credit towards milk teas and fruit. But the downside is that they don't allow alcohol, so how can you be truly Asian while KTV-ing without a Tsingtao beer in hand!? Or maybe I'm just accustomed to how karaoke was during my time abroad in China.
However, they do have a birthday special where you can get __% off for however old you're turning (i.e. 22% off if it's your 22nd birthday). Maybe I'll come back for a birthday outing. -

Oakland, CA
Loved the place. As others have mentioned the touch screen is a little difficult to get used to, but after a few times we got it nailed down. Song selection is medium, but pretty good.
It is kind of expensive but we found ourselves here after the song list was filled up at mel-o-dee's by 10:15pm! There were only 3 of us and they gave us a great big room at a lower price because all of their small rooms were full. That was very sweet of them.
Also, my friend accidentally left her phone. When I called her phone to see if it was in my car they called me back on her phone and told me they would hold it for her and put her name on it. That was a total life saver! -

It's just awesome.
Awesome song database with lots of new songs, pretty good food and drink (and you can always eat first or after at one of the near by food places, they are all decent). Reasonable price, esp going in group during happy hours/early birds. yay fav! going again this weekend!!! =D -
Review from Cassy H.
Love this place. I've been to this place twice and had a blast both times. We go before 9 pm, so it was $15 per hour and then the prices go up after that. There's a minimum $2 drink requirement which isn't so bad and not a big deal to me since I love boba and milk tea drinks anyway.
The private rooms are clean and they even have microphone speaker covers for sanitation/safety reasons?
In terms of the music, awesome selection. They use a touchscreen karaoke machine type of thing... and it has all the latest hits! So, my friends and I were able to sing out little hearts out to the latest radio tunes as well as sing classic karaoke pop (ex. BSB, Britney Spears, TLC, etc..) The music videos that go with the song are the actual music videos, not some random music video with random people. Anyway, definitely highly recommended. Go and sing now! -

Dislikes: pricier than other places I've been.

I am on a constant mission to find a karaoke places that are as good as the ones in Asia. After X number of years, I have decided that Music Tunnel is basically as good as it'll get on this side of the Pacific Ocean.
Their touchscreen system is cool upon first inspection, but isn't actually all that cool. Sometimes the screen is unresponsive unless you tap it a few times, so the chance of chipping a nail trying to order some Journey is high.
They do require you to buy food/drink from them ($2/person I believe). We usually have no problem fulfilling this, as we are suckers for boba (who isn't?) (just us? okay). I'm pretty sure they get their teas/etc from the J&S Tea House that's also in the plaza.
If you're a ktv junkie you can become a VIP member. I think you get 10% off, amongst other things.Listed in: K your face off

Whats better than karaoke with a bunch of friends on a night out, screaming at the mic, dancing together?! Nothing! And Music Tunnel fulfilled that awesomeness!!!
Good song choices for the Cpop crowd, kinda behind on the other music otherwise.
-1 star for no alcohol, but it seems like the case with every Asian K bar.
-1 star for mandatory drink order, but the drinks are good, so I guess thats ok?
They have membership card with deep discounts if you spent a crap ton of money there, but if you really love K'ing, get it! Also discounts in b-day months! You gotta have a friend with a birthday in every month in the calendar right?! -
Review from Joshua L.
1 Star because the #1 Most Requested Engrish Song in 2005 was Avril effing Lavigne's "Complicated." What? Why??? Please also note, 2004's Most Requested Engrish Song was also AVRIL LAVIGNE'S COMPLICATED? OH MY DEAR MADONNA! POR QUE?
5 Stars because the utter corniness of these karaoke videos make me want to be a Karaoke Video Star SO BAD.
1 Star because they automatically charge you a $2 food/drink minimum per person, plus 10% "cleaning fee" plus 5% charge for 6 people or more plus they seem to be REALLY arbitrary with their rates and when they award them, PDF pay scale rate chart notwithstanding.
5 Stars because Music Tunnel is packed inside of a larger building with a strict No Smoking policy, which means you won't get the scary Azn gangstas smoking all over the place and making you feel and smell all stank!Listed in: I Want To Increase My "Great…, ONE MIC; ONE DIVA!!!

I am drank and this place is cool. The VIP room was DOPE and the people here are friendly. They do impose this $2 minimum on drinks (non-alcoholic) though...and that is pretty lame. I got a Taro pearl milk tea and it was very creamy...pearls not bad, pretty chewy.
Alcohol is not allowed! Grrrrr.
Good selection of new songs...found everything I wanted! And some of the videos are the actual music videos!!

MEH. This place is okay. I'm not some karaoke connoisseur so I really can't judge on technological advances in the karaoke world. But there are a few things I am displeased with.
1. The selection of.... white people's music... is pretty poor.
2. I don't really understand how they can make us buy drinks... -

I can't believe I haven't found this place sooner! This is the closest thing to KTV in Asia that there is here in the Bay Area. It's big, clean and cheap (during happy hour which is until 9pm). They allow you to bring food and drinks in, which is great because it's surrounded by all the Asian restaurants and snackshops. But they also serve food and drinks here. Just press the button on the remote and someone will come up to take your order. The music selection here is huge compared to that of other private room karaoke venues. No smoking allowed! My only complaint is that I don't think they allow you to bring in alcohol, but that doesn't bother me since I don't drink.
I've finally found my new favorite karaoke hangout spot. JONASAPPROVED!Listed in: Private Room Karaoke, The Places I Go Out

This is probably the best karaoke place I've been to in the bay area...but you know, it's not like I got to that many often...
I do dig the up-to-date technology on the computer system...I mean seriously...they've got this perfected in Asia years ago...
The sound system was aight...needs a bit of work on the feedback from the mikes.
Oh yeah, where are the strobe lights?
Other than that, good service, clean rooms, good times :)
Can't wait to check out their SJ location... -

New York, NY
Though Music Tunnel KTV is pricier than other karaoke places in the Bay Area, what they charge extra is more than made up for by the courteous service, clean and cigarette-free facilities, library of Chinese magazines, quality audio and visual equipment, and catalog of the latest songs.
I especially recommend the Happy Hour Specials during the afternoon and early evening. -
Review from Bryan T.
San Francisco, CA
I'm giving this place five stars even though I'm still a bit miffed that they don't remember me there even though I probably went six or seven times last semester. Clearly I have a very one-sided relationship with this place: I love them and they are indifferent. Cue emo song -- which you would probably be able to find and sing there.
This is really the by far best, most authentic Chinese KTV experience you can find in the Bay Area, and I'd venture that they probably have the largest selection of Chinese and English songs in the world. It's not Cashbox, but it's pretty much as close as you can expect in the States with an extra bonus for having so many English songs.
For those of you who haven't been lucky to go singing with a Chinese person before, that means private rooms, the latest Chinese songs with great depth in terms of oldies -- never not been able to find a song, select your songs via remote, drink and food service in the room and plenty of rooms -- also never been here and had to wait for a room. They are also open till like 4am or something, or at least that's when they kicked us out once.
The rooms are a bit inconsistent: most I think have newer wireless mics but a couple have older wired mics.
What really makes this place five stars is the song selection. They have the obvious Jay Chou, Lee-hom, type stuff, but they also have more than enough songs to include your American friends too, with selections from Kelly Clarkson, the Arcade Fire, Rihanna, Boyz II Men, The Fray, Howie Day, the Beatles etc., so that your friends who take karaoke at face value can sing their hearts out, while the people who treat it ironically (most Americans) can choose from selections like Journey or the Top Gun soundtrack or Snoop (Rollin down the street, smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice
Laid back with my mind on my money and my money on my mind...)
They even have a Taiwanese gangsta rap song that is sung in Chinese, Taiwanese and French and features a music video shot in south central LA. How can you not give that five stars?? -

Average.
Not good for Japanese because there are not so many japanese latest songs.
Service is not bad but the price is expensive. Probably good for a big group. -

I think this place is the best karaoke place in the bay area because of the following:
- Super clean
- Actually serves food (too bad they don't serve alcohol! Some people would sing better or at least sound better after being liquored up! haha!)
- Serves FOOD and Pearl Tea drinks! (So you don't have to ever leave the place if you don't wanna! haha!)
- Great speaker system that makes you sound awesome! haha
- Bigger TV
- Friendly staff!
If only it wasn't so freaking far, I would be there everday practicing for my second career. haha jk! :)Listed in: To sing or not to sing..

Review from Eric W.
This is the place for all the cool HK and Taiwanese people on the weekend nights. It's a little bit bigger and classier than Echo in Fremont, but it's basically the same concept. The song selection is great. They have stuff that just recently reached the airwaves in Hong Kong. I prefer the classics myself (Danny Chan, especially), but anyone out to tackle the newest offerings from the likes of Joey Yung, Hins Cheung, Jay Chou, or even MC Hot Dog, go ahead, sing your heart out.
The owner of this karaoke lounge also runs the J&S Tea shop down the hall in the same mall, so they offer the same food. The funny thing is that if you opt to order directly from Music Tunnel, and not walk over to J&S yourself, they charge you some extra service fee. I guess that's what you get for being too lazy.
The no alcohol policy is an awesome idea. It keeps the place clean, and above all, there is no drunken testesterone raging out of control, and no skank h0es strippin' and shakin' their thang. Wait a minute... maybe it's not so great after all. =PListed in: Evening entertainment

For the cost-conscious, I did the math for you.
Assuming on average the drinks are $3, and using the smallest room possible, I decided to optimize this and came up with the following cheapest per-person rates--
Early bird special: group of 4, followed by 6
Happy hour (before 9): group of 11, followed by 4, 6, 8, 10, or 14
After 9pm: group of 11, followed by 14
Hope that helps anyone who wants to sing his/her heart out in a setting other than the shower. Or in the car.
(anyhow, I echo the good reviews -- great selection, and they are pretty good at responding to song requests) -

No alcohol allowed?!?! How can they expect me to flex my golden pipes without being inebriated?
Okay okay, so once you get over yourself and start singing it's not so bad. In fact, this is one of the better KTV's I've been to in the Bay. It's clean, doesn't smell like my grandfather's unemptied ashtray, and is pretty cheap. Not to mention they got a large selection of English and CJK songs, ranging from old to current. The touch-screen selector is pretty tight and they either have actual MV's or cheesy interpretive videos to accompany your cacophony.
On the downside, one of our mic's wasn't loud enough....but maybe that was for the best? I know I don't want to scar anybody with my beautiful voice. -

So my friends love this place. It's pretty much their #1 karaoke spot.
It's mine as well, but only because there aren't better alternatives around.
See, I only sing Japanese songs. This place has the largest selection out of the karaoke places I've been to in the Bay Area, but the music videos for the Japanese songs (and English ones as well) are almost always random stuff not related to the real video, which is very disappointing. The plus side is that they're relatively current with what's new in Japan.
Their somewhat new policy is that you get an automatic $2 or $2.50 charge per person that needs to be spent on drinks/foods or go to waste, which is a reasonable compromise for letting you bring in outside food/drinks (it used to be no outside food/drinks and you'd be fined if they caught you) -
Review from Kione E.
It's Karaoke, what's not to like.
I love going singing with my friends, especially when they can sing.
By the way,
Who brought the dumb fat kid, who couldn't sing to save his life, yet still found a way to hog the mic all night? I wanted him to die!!!
This place is pretty expensive and not really all that cool. The lines kept falling out of the mics and the "service button" didn't work. I had to walk down to the counter everytime we needed something. And above all the sound system was CRAP!!
That was Room 213 folks.
The only thing that makes this place fun and cool are me and my talented friends.
ps. the dumb fat kid was a friend's co-worker. the type that finds a way to invite themselves. jeez. -

This place is probably among the top 3 for best karaoke place around the bay area. However, its pretty far drive up north for most of my friends. Clean and looks new despite it being at least a decade old. (I still remember coming here while back in college) It also have touch screen computer system for song selections. Also the microphones comes with disposable covers.
I also love their birthday discount where you got the same percent off as your age. Also, you got 10% off for your entire birthmonth. The song selection also caters to people like me who prefer chinese songs.
They also allows outside food, as long as you still buy the $2 minimum drink per person.
I am going to the SJ one this coming weekend. Hope the other one is as good as this one.Listed in: Singing Songs

La la la, me me me!!!!!! Ah hem. This place is where you can let your hair down. I minused a star because it is kind of pricey and I can't afford to do this more often. If the prices were lower, then I'd be here all the time. I really like how you can order boba drinks and they deliver them right to your booth. Hey hey VIP status.
The new touch panel is kind of hard to use. But kudos for them living in the future. A location just opened in San Jose, so I plan on trying that out someday in the near future. -

This place is the best KTV place I've ever been to... my friend has a VIP card, we come here all the time and the VIP card earns itself back within a few visits, it's the best deal EVER! I recommend it highly.
Yes, there's a 15% service charge every time, but... hey, they really scrub the room clean after each group, I can smell the isopropyl alcohol 70% after they're done, and they give you these neat microphone covers that are single-use only. =) Feels very clean.
Service is great, they're in and out without any weird expressions at the stupid song and dance you're doing and no excess conversation, delivery of boba + food straight to the room while singing an awesome selection of songs?! It's heaven.
This place is totally worth the $$ during happy hour... before 9pm every day, it's half price karaoke. AWESOME! I would only recommend you not to come here because I don't want to have to wait for a room next time. =P -
Review from Mona W.
One of the better karaoke place I have been to. Clean and comfortable room with an updated computerized system and a fairly extensive song selection, what more could you ask for?
$2 minimum drink charge. Oh well, that's still understandable. At least the bubble tea drinks were decent.
I did find the sound of the microphone a bit unclear. We had one of the largest room with 4 wireless mics running and feedback was quite annoying. The touch screen song selection system could take a while to get used to. Traditional song books are still available upon request although you can't use the number pad to pick songs anymore.
They offer a good variety of discounts. 10% off if anyone in your party has a birthday on that month! Discount on your birthday equal to your age at percentage (cap at 50%)! VIP membership 10% off and Early birth special, etc. Make good use of it =)
Can't wait to try out their new San Jose store. -
Review from Brandon T.
San Mateo, CA
This is absolutely my favorite place to go in the Bay Area for karaoke. Their song selection is by far the largest and most diverse that a person can find in the Bay.
The staff is friendly, and even better is that you can order food and drinks right from your room. Also, the song selection is incredibly up to date, especially for American and Chinese songs. They even had Khalil Fong's "Love Song" already, and the CD hasn't even been out for an entire month yet!
If you visit this place often, make sure to join the Music Tunnel KTV club to get an additional discount off the bill each time you go. Sometimes they charge for membership, but when I had visited a few weeks ago with a group of over 10 people, they offered membership for free and an instant discount off the bill. I definitely did not complain.
I really wish this place wasn't in Richmond, which is the only downside. If this was any closer to the peninsula, I'd be visiting this place every other weekend, if not more. -
Review from Esther Y.
What I like about Music Tunnel KTV:
- Very convenient location with lots of restaurants nearby
- Usually don't need to worry about parking
- Clean and spacious
- Yummy drink menu
- Touch-screen song selection
- Large variety of Asian-language and English songs
Things that could be better:
- The user interface of the touch-screen song selector (those buttons can be confusing!)
- Currently no ability to choose songs with the remote control; the remote control can ONLY change the volume.
- Some of the songs tend to be somewhat slower than the original song and others were not very true to the original song
- The microphones may need to be replaced
$2 drink order minimum per person, which I was fine with since I was pretty thirsty anyways, and their drinks are pretty good.
For my group of 13ish, it was about $5 per hour per person.
I would come here again with large groups, but Jaguar in Oakland is a good alternative too (I don't think they have the touchscreen system yet though). -

Do not give me the mic, if you were even thinking about singing. It's my favorite place to karaoke, because there are alot of rooms you don't have strangers constantly poking their heads in the door window. That's a good thing because it really lets me unwind and bring out the Mariah in me (I wish).
The staff are friendly and you won't feel left out if you don't speak Chinese and the place is smoke free (even better!) and they allow you to bring outside food if you wish, which is nice because its located inside the Pacific East Mall next to Ranch 99 and Sheng Kee Bakery. If you're not planning on bringing your own food, you can always order from their menu.
They have a pretty good selection of songs both Chinese, English and some Japanese songs as well. -

Me: What? We have to order at least $2 dollars worth of food?
My friend: Money-leeching bastards! Let's just order milk tea.
*After the milk tea came*
Me: Omigod! What is this? This must be how heaven taste like.
My friend: Can I have more?
So yes, their milk tea is the best I've tasted in the area. It is authenic. There's another good one that tastes authentic at UCD, but anyway..
I love their song collection! Everything is touch-screen now, but don't expect the list to be 100% organized. This is the best it can get in the bay area though. Great collection of both English and Chinese songs.
They let us bring outside food and the guy was very nice too. I remember when I called them, there was this very friendly girl who talked to me on the phone. You don't really get that at Asian places, so definitely a plus!
The screen was big and nice and the audio was good too. People should stop complaining about their tobaco and alcohol free rule. This is Music Tunnel, not Smokey Tunnel.
The room was cold..and we could not find the control to the room's temperature..so wear you jacket here.
Overall, the best karaoke place in the Bay. -

Went here the other night for a friend's birthday. We were about 30 minutes late for our reservation, but they didn't charge us for it, which was a major plus. They only start charging you if you check in, and they were very friendly about the changing of the time when my friend called over the phone to rearrange.
Secondly this place charges a 3 dollar per person food fee, included in the price of the karaoke. So go hungry and order food off the menu that way you get the value. Also included in the price is a cleaning fee which we found handy because of all the eating we kind of made a mess. The no smoking policy is great because then your clothes come out later smelling like... wait for it... clothes! And the no alcohol prevents damage to their equipment, which was top notch. The remote controls worked and had instructions for them since they were all in Chinese in the booklet, the mics both sounded great. All in all a good experience.Listed in: Team Building
