wow, im kinda shocked at what others wrote. being an employee of another educational venue i really enjoyed this place.

there are over 100 hands on activities to do here. i easily spent a few hours playing with all the stuff. the flight sims here are amazing. im not sure what the deal is with the bum reviews. i really enjoyed my visit.

the staff i ran into was ok. not overly friendly and not rude either. maybe its just the fact that i dont ask much at places like this and just kinda find my own way around.

the only thing this place is missing is a true planetarium.

What a disappointment!  As Vanilla P below stated "I wish I had a time machine so I could have read my review before I went".  From the beginning to the end it was disappointing.  The staff and everyone I approached or had contact with were useless, uninterested, and rude.  Yes, rude.  The "teens", aka staff, were in groups talking, flirting, ignoring customers, avoiding work, and doing everything "teens" do at their best minus work.  There wasn't any knowledgeable staff, oh wait, maybe they were, who knows?  Certainly not my niece and nephew!  There wasn't anyone that could guide us or answer questions; just the cliché teen "leave me alone" attitude.  The exhibits are old; the same ones we saw when I took my niece and nephew 5 years ago, and back then I thought they were old.  I don't mind paying a fair price for a day at the museum, but this is absolutely ridiculous.  Not only is it pricey but you can "discover" what a rip off it is in less than an hour.  As for "Science".....
The equation: disappointment mixed with unjustly prices and then combined with lack of things to see sprinkled with horrible staff to the 10th power equals= The Museum of Discovery and Science.
If my tone sounds harsh it is, shame on them.
The IMAX theatre is a hit and if it weren't for that I don't know anyone that would go there twice.  The theatre too had its negative touch.  We waited in line 30 minutes prior to the movie (and we weren't in the front of the line so I assume you would have to get there about an hour or so early to be in the front?!?!?!) only to find the theatre almost at full capacity.  We had to sit on the side in the second row.  Ugh!

I wish that I could give this place 5 stars.  It's the Museum of SCIENCE(!!!) for crying out loud.  The parking situation would be amazing if the attraction was:  it's really close, and really cheap, and all day.  Unfortunately, even the most dedicated won't be able to spend the full day here.

The clock outside the MoDS is pretty sweet, and gives something to look at while you buy your ticket.  Once inside there's two floors of exhibits with 3 major sections.   The multistory animal exhibit was fun, but fairly small, and several of the areas were temporarily closed.  In the space and aviation exhibits, there were a few things that seemed dated:  I'm pretty sure that a lot of them could have been the same back when I was ten.

If you've got young kids, and you're going to be at the Imax anyway, take advantage of the discount, and go, just don't get your expectations too high.  Otherwise, it's not really worth driving out.

(Except for the T-Rex hot melt machine in the lobby.   That's off the hizzy, as the kids today say)

This museum could use a serious dose of pizazz. The only things I discovered was that half the displays and exhibits were broken or smudged with little ice cream and chocolate smears. The kick ass clock outside the front door? Not so kick ass if the part that tells time IS BROKEN.

Pluses:
Live alligators (although v. small)
A lot of seashells
IMAX theater
Cool gift shop
Near river walk area
Cockpit replica

Minuses:
Rude employees
Broken exhibits
Messy bathrooms
Expensive ($16? I wish I had a time machine so I could have read my review before I went)

I hate to say it, but the exhibits in this museum are very old and outdated.  It's really not worth anyone's time or money.  The one cool thing is that it has a great Imax theater, so you should check that out, depending on what is playing, of course.

I would recommend the museum if you have small kids.  We recently took my daughter there and she loved the exhibits.  They have a great play area that has many interactive games to play.  I'd have to agree with the other reviews in that it seems it could use a little more attention.  It seems a little unkept and some of the staff are not that friendly.  Weekends are a bit hectic there.  We made the mistake of going on a Saturday and we only were able to view 1/3 of the exhibits on the second floor.  If you're going on a week day I would call in advance to make sure there are no field trips there that day.  Had the joy of that experience as well.  Overall, if you're taking your kids it's worth checking out.  If you're taking someone on a date I would stick to the IMAX theater.  If you like the place and plan on coming back I would also recommend the year pass.  For $90 you can buy a family membership that gives you free access all year and free tickets to the IMAX theater.  The membership also gives you free access to over 200 other museums.

This museum is a good value for the money paid, but you should know that it's not huge - maybe allow 1 or 1 1/2 hours at most to go through the entire thing, provided you really browse and read everything and participate in all of the interactive demonstrations. Several interactive experiments and exhibits were broken or not working properly, others were a bit of a stretch. The flight simulator stations were using programs and technology which may have been impressive more than10 years ago, but now seem dated. Still, this was a good place to bring my niece and nephews for a morning, they seemed to enjoy it and did learn more than they knew when they entered the place. There was only a SUBWAY on-site available for lunch; Avoid this restaurant!  They were out of several things and the service was really bad.  The IMAX theater, on the other hand, was great and is WELL worth the extra cost. The 3D images were incredible (several times the kids were trying to reach out and touch the images, as they were that real and seemed that close). Overall this place was an OK value, but would be much better if they just spent a little more money to update and improve it.
