I am a professional photographer and I just photographed an event at Murrieta's Well. I must say it was one of the most beautiful locations I've been to in a while. There were endless locations to take a great photo which made the bride and groom look straight out of a magazine. My clients LOVED their venue and it seemed as though the guests really enjoyed the romantic candlelit setting. It truly seemed as if this beautiful setting were in Napa, but this winery was in our own backyard. A true perk.

If you are planning a wedding here, you should be really excited. The staff at Murrieta's Well went above and beyond their level of professionalism and the food and service was impeccable! Arlene and Crystal made sure that everything ran smoothly and made it a really enjoyable experience. I would recommend checking out this location for any event, big or small. You won't be disappointed.

My sister just had her wedding here and as the MOH and wedding planner here are the pros and cons!

PROS
--The food was to die for...no seriously...to die for. The fillet was cooked perfectly and the halibut was delicious. No standard catering nastiness. It was amazing.  Everybody finished their entire plate and having attended 6 weddings this year, I know how rare that is.
--The location is beautiful, the barrel room is intimate and it creates a lovely atmosphere for a wedding.
--The sales staff was helpful leading up to the event and after the event.  They answered questions, gave suggestions and helped to reimburse us for the issues below.

CONS
--The linen company they used was terrible. They handled this vendor and the day of our wedding the gorgeous linens that we ordered didn't show up. We walked into the reception after the ceremony and my sister and I looked at each other and said WTF. That's no way to start a party. The other linens were not pressed and looked pretty bad. I was angry to say the least. Which leads me to the next con...
--The "day of" wedding planner was terrible. She was unfriendly AND unhelpful. She showed up twenty minutes late to the rehearsal with little apology. I was planning the wedding and when the linens (see story above) didn't show she gave us no options as to what they were replaced with...no head's up as to any issue and we had two people on-site helping with the details we had planned. She could have easily informed them and discussed other options. The wedding was beautiful but we are still talking about how she did a terrible job.

If you are planning your event here and don't have a wedding planner...I would suggest thinking about getting one for the day of. I'm so thankful we had people onsite and weren't only relying on her.  Otherwise Murrieta's Well is a great deal for the money spent!

Met up with our friends here on Sunday for some free wine tasting. I have never been to the Livermore wineries, but I was most certainly surprised at how beautiful Murrieta's Well was. The location is rustic, but the vineyard is definitely gorgeous. The tasting room is on the second floor of the main building. The room is quite large and of course both tasting bars were covered with people. There were samples of mustard in the hallway going into the room. A balcony that overlooks the front part of the building and great views. The wines here are good. I am Napkin girl though through my boyfriend. So yes, I am a spoiled wino. The Merlot was by far my favorite and that is all I can really say. Most of the time I was distracted by the views and the fact I was in Livermore and not Napa.

What a beautiful winery, love the building the tastings are done in. Get to choose from two flights , French style, Spanish style. We chose the Spanish style wines, for 10$ a tasting your get 6 tasting not bad. I personally didn't care for it.  If you do like their wines, its a great place to buy a bottle have lunch outside and enjoy their vineyards because the land is beautiful.

Decent tasting room. The Murrietas Well label wines are sub-par, but the Los Tesoros labelled wines shine. The tasting room is in a historic building, which is cool. They've done a good job of preserving the rusticism while making it nice inside at the same time.

Worthwhile to visit, but don't expect to fall in love with all their wines, but some definitely worthwhile bottles in there.

Beautiful location, relaxing patio, friendly staff, and good wine.  Too bad there's no cheese or other food to munch on.  And the tasting cost about $10.  But you get get it 'shared', so it's not so bad.  After the tasting, we were a bit buzzed and relaxed at the patio for a while.

Murrieta's Well offers some delicious Spanish style wines, I especially love their Red Meritage. We liked their wines so much we joined their Silver Spur club - you get some great discounts and you get four bottles of wine four times a year for about $80-100 each shipment. Anyway their tasting room is interesting, kinda out in the middle of no where in Livermore, but its rustic with nice views.

They don't have too much room at the counters for tasting, but all the times we've gone, we've been able to squeeze in even though its busy (it gets very busy on weekends). The nice thing is after your tasting they have some nice chairs and tables outside for you to relax and enjoy the view before heading to the next winery. Since they are sister wineries with Wente, they often have some deal going where you can get discounts at Wente also. Just ask, everyone at Murieta's Well is pretty friendly and down to earth.

Another good winery in Livermore.  Overall a great experience.  We had a large group and a fun pourer who actually educated us about wine in a down to earth manner.  We had a truly excellent 2006 zinfandel which knocked my socks off.  Surprisingly light.  I could drink this all day.

This is definitely one of my frequent stops on a wine tasting trip through Livermore.  For $10, you choose between two flights which each have two whites and four reds.  The enjoy their wines although I have never liked one so much that I have purchased any bottles.  The tasting pours are very generous and the staff are nice although they seem very scripted and this adds to a bit of a corporate feel here.  We were referred to Murrieta's Well from another, not associated, winery and when I asked them for suggestions I was a little disappointed (although not very surprised) that they only suggested the other two Wente wineries.

The space and surrounding vineyards are beautiful and would definitely be lovely for a small wedding or other event.

We checked this place out as a wedding venue and tasted wines here.

Driving up, I was like, whoa, hello phone lines.  I mean, people need to communicate over long distances and stuff, but visiting Livermore is like living inside a constant reminder of land lines.  This place has got a huge, I mean, HUGE phone line tower right at the end of the drive up to the winery.  You hardly notice it once you're on the premises, but it was not a great first impression of the place.

The super fantabulous wedding planner Georgine was definitely all about know-how, but budget talk was a no-go.  When you're looking at a venue for the first time, you really just want to have the mental picture of a wide tree-lined avenue with green lights for as far as you can see...  I don't know.  Maybe she wanted to avoid giving us false hopes, but it's nice to heard the tone in someones voice that says their willing to work with regardless of the words that are coming out of their mouth.  You know what I mean?

Another thing about the look of the place...  The outdoor reception on the patio looks really nice in the pictures online, however, what you don't see is that this space is not around back with a beautiful view of the vineyards, it is actually right at the front parking lot.  So, when you say your vows, you would actually be surrounded by a big dirt lot (though I gotto say dirt is better than the concrete that we've seen at a lot of other places...).

The stone staircase around the side leads up to this awesome hardwood floored hall with vaulted ceilings that is used as their tasting room.  Sorry to all of you yelp purists, but "yummy" is all that comes to mind about their wines.  Go ahead over there and try 'em.  I doubt you'll be disappointed.  People were having fun in here too... Great space.

The reception area is beautiful.  I've seen this space featured in lots of magaizines, online bridal guides and wedding search engines for the Bay Area.  The barrel room here is the most enchanting I've seen yet.  The fairy-lit vines climbing up each old wooden pillar really give the interior of the building a really rustic charm.

We wouldn't go for this place for a lot of reasons, but mostly because the dancefloor would have to be outside to accomodate 120 guests for the dinner inside and we really didn't like how exposed the patio was to the entry/parking.

I have read that many people have had great success with weddings here....I was not married at the Well or even attended a wedding there so I cannot comment on the wedding side of things.

I have went here to wine taste. It was the worst winery of the few (6-7) wineries i have tried.

It is $10, which is no big deal if you get to taste the actual wine. What i got a taste of was bad customer service, as did everyone around. After to going to other  wineries, this place was just awful. The portions they pour are pathetic, ahh I'm so poetic, but really very tiny amount. You can hardly do the snooty sniff and swish, as there is nothing in your glass. I'm not going to get drunk but i do want a taste, after all that is how you sell the wine. The employee's really had no personality, a bad thing in my mind, you can have attitude at McDonalds but at least fake a smile to sell your wine.
I should mention the taste...well I barely got a taste but what i did get i did not fall in love with. It tasted like a forgettable table wine at a bad Italian restaurant   I usually buy at least a bottle at each winery but here i felt as if they owed me a bottle.

This is another one that I have just been sitting on, delaying my review. Pete S. has been getting on my case for months. I cannot believe that it has taken me this long. Maybe, just maybe, it is because I thought the whole event here was too perfect to be real. Maybe only a dream. The setting. The gorgeous structure of the building. The green lush vineyard. The amazing staff. The wedding coordinator and onsite coordinator. The 85 degree weather on a July Livermore day. Need I say more.

I found this place in my searches of places to hold a wedding and had it on my list for the hunt. It was our first day out in December, after getting engaged, and we drove up. Immediately we were in awe of the sheer beauty of the building and the barrel room. We knew that this place was just too beautiful to not consider.

We rushed right over to Wente to check out availability and cost and met Georgine. We were very surprised to find that there were a few Saturdays left in the summer and we were not really dead set on any particular date (though I insisted that it be before the end of August). We chose July 5th, due to my love of fireworks. We put the date on hold.

One great thing about this location is that they hold only one event per day. They are not rushing one group out before they bring you in. Yours is the only wedding of the day. They are only held in the evening once the normal workings of the winery are done. The tasting room closes before all events. This helps keep the party crashers out and the looky-loos to a minimum. Luckily too, this place is set off Mines road, tucked into the base of a hill and surrounded by large trees. You would not even know this place was here if you did not see the small sign out by the street.

The facility is fairly small and cannot accommodate the amount of people we had on our original list (you know, everybody and their grandmother and even that one classmate from kindergarten that you have not seen since...). So, our hold was for one week and we had to determine if we could down size without leaving out the most important folks.

We negotiated, and chose to exclude kids from the reception and widdled down the list. WE CAN FIT. So we committed.  As the months passed, there were wine tastings, cake tastings, meetings with the coordinator, many many emails with the coordinator, etc to put everything in line. We went to Wente for dinner (on our own tab) one night in hopes of trying a few dishes that might give us a hint into the food. Luckily they had the pork chop (their signature), slightly different in the restaurant, but just plain delicious. They do the wine, the food, the cake and even have the coordinator on site (Dana) to keep everyone in line and troubleshoot if need be.  They even help you connect you to rental people if you want extras (lights, tables, etc. ) That keeps it simple and you can focus on things like THE DRESS, flowers and entertainment.

Our rehearsal with Dana was two days before the wedding due to the holiday, in the early afternoon. Surprisingly, everyone was able to make it. We were able to sort everything out and even the kids got to go through all the motions. Dana took us through everything twice and then just made sure that all the details were lined up. She asked a few extra pertinent questions, like "do you want us to save you some of the appetizers and bring them to you when you are doing photographs so that you are not starving? OF COURSE, how thoughtful. Dana hit all the important stuff and just made all of us (and me especially) feel comfortable with what was going to go on the next day.

Day of the wedding. I arrived with my family and the girls to the winery before the tasting room closed. There is this great balcony off the tasting room that gets locked down when they close and cleanup (around 430 or 5pm). More than anything, I wanted some pics on this balcony. We got dressed and rushed out there to do some shots. Perfect timing. With the guys expected around 520 or 530, we had to be quick with our pictures. NO VIEWING THE BRIDE BEFORE THE WEDDING!!

Ceremony was a breeze and perfect. Dana kept everyone in line. We got our appetizers too. The food was phenomenal! The cake was gorgeous and tasty. The reception flowed and the staff even helped us gather all of the stuff that was ours. I could not have asked for anything better. Thanks Georgine, Dana, and the whole Wente staff for making my dream real!!!

As Pete S. said the photos are worth a thousand words, or a thousand emotions. My photos are so great. Murrieta's Well is the most gorgeous place I have seen in Livermore. I would choose this place again in a second and get to relive it all when I look at the pics and video.

Oh, and there wine is pretty darn good too..

There were 2 flights to choose from for $10 a person... no mixing and matching.  No mix and match, no reds only...  ahh my too bad.  And because there is no mix and match, there were some varietals that I didn't care for mixed in with the ones I did like.  I guess it is one way to make you get both flights... and spend $$$ of money.  It was crowded.. it is always crowded.  I don't think there is ever a time when this place isn't crowded.

So did we buy anything?

Just a pair of pink birthday girl socks...      little pink sock... little pink sock

Gorgeous building and tasting room, tucked away in the hills just a bit, in contrast to a number of other wineries in the Livermore Valley.  This is one of the ones I'd be sure to bring friends to if I brought them out to the Livermore Valley, and make no mistake - there are enough quality vineyards out here to make a full day of it, even on a weekday.

The white meritage could have used a little more semillon for a creamier feel, and it felt like the "noble rot" wasn't particularly present - the wine needed a little more sweetness.

The tempranillo, a Spanish table wine, would be a fine red to pair with a meal, provided it wasn't too spicy.  The tasting notes said "round mouthfeel" and I can second that.  The merlot was very nice, for a merlot.

The Touriga Francesca was very interesting, and I liked it quite a bit.  This is a grape typically used for port, although it's more complex than you would think.  It's worth a taste, and I don't know where else you can taste it in the Bay Area - perhaps Wine Mine on one of their Spanish days?

I knew it was time to go, though, when that Kid Rock song that rips off Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London in one craptacular swoop came on the radio.  Time to head back over the hills!

On the way out, try their mustards.  The jalapeno and whole grain (?) garlic mustard are delicious, and the beer mustard truly brings out the mustard flavor.

I know very little about wine except when I like one or dislike another.  Every once in a while I'll put the glass to mouth and flavors explode making me love that particular wine.  It happened while at Sonoma Mission Inn when I was introduced to Matanzas Creek's Merlot.  It also happened last weekend with a glass of Murrieta's Well Los Tesoros de Joaquin Mourvedre (2006).  Wow, this was so delicious.  Who knew that something this tasty could come out of Livermore (and no dis to my friends who live there).

What can I say... I love Spanish varietal wines so they would have had to try to disappoint me.  Two different $10 tasting flights, so one of those places where having two people who don't mind sharing is a good thing if you want to taste everything.  Only a couple of whites were tasted, of which the Semillon was quite tasty.  As for the reds, I really enjoyed the Tempranillo as well as the Tempranillo-heavy blends [including one that was for purchase by wine club members only which means I cannot buy it as I will not join a wine club].  Prices were maybe a bit more than I would like to pay but then again its not like everywhere has a range of Tempranillos.   There is limited space at the counters so it could be tight if there is already a large group there.  Staff was very friendly and informative.

We came here for the first time last weekend, and it was my favorite winery of the day.  Up the stairs covered in spanish tiles (don't slip on that last step like I did) and to the left, the entrance to the tasting room is grand with shiny wood floors.  The tasting counters are small, but we were greeted right away. I liked having the option of tasting from the comfy couches! The gentleman who poured for us (and I feel terrible because I can't recall his name) was SO friendly! I'm no wine expert, but I know what I like and what I don't, and I really enjoyed 2 of the wines from the tasting. We bought a couple bottles and got a great deal.  What a beautiful location, and a wonderful time.  The only negative thing about this whole thing was that we had taken a brand new car and parked by the tasting room, across from a low, circular wall about a foot off the ground.  When backing up to leave, we ran into the wall (which you can't see from the rearview mirror) and damaged the back of our brand new car. From the looks of the wall, many people had done this very same thing.  Definitely check this place out, but maybe not in your brand new car, and watch that low wall.

The tasting room and service was good enough -- but I just didn't care for any of the wines and, worse yet, all the members of our party get incredibly sick afterward.

My friend had her wedding here and it was absolutely gorgeous. She said the "planner" (that is thru Wente) was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.

I have a hard time with wine tasting and remembering if I like the wines. Especially at the reception since we were just drinking to drink.

Great place for a wedding!

Murrieta's Well was the absolute best location for the July dream wedding for my daugher and myself (MOB). We were looking for a very intimate site in the Bay area and this fit the bill perfectly. The venue is rustic yet lovely set very privately off Mines Road in Livermore with the ceremony held outside and the dinner inside in the barrel room. Where else can you "own" the venue for the day. It was exquistely private as we were the only party there at the time as is their practice.

Most of our guests are aficionados of both food and wine. Not one guest was dissatisfied in any way with the food and beverage service nor the wine. We absolutely loved the Meritage. We had absolutely rave reviews from all our guests without exception.

We were a little hesitant with the wedding cake, preferring to bring in our own vendor for the cake. But, Wente's pastry chef really delivered. Their cake tasting was everything we wanted and the finished product was a delight.

They even worked with us when we wanted to bring in additional exterior lighting strung into the vineyards to cover the patio for dancing and to enhance the photographs.

Their service was immpecable the day of and they didn't miss a beat. They have a wedding planner available the day of and her services were well worth it.

We would highly recommend Murrieta's Well for a charming, intimate medium-size venue with top notch service and exquisite food and wine (as well as full bar which you don't find everywhere!)

I love a lot of different wines, but Murrieta's Well wines always hit the spot...never sour, tart, too sweet.  The wine release parties used to be a ton of fun, but unfortunately everyone has seemed to of found out about Murrietta's Well and well, now they are bit over crowded, but I hope they have plans to make it more intimate like it once was (I would only give this 3 stars as far as the wine releases go).  At one time we belonged to several of the Livermore wine clubs, but considering the price and quality Murrietta's Well is the only one we've stuck with (and we've had the longest too).  Their port and zinfandels seem to be our favorites...if you can get your hand on a '98 Zin grab it!  One of the best we've ever had.  The rustic country atmosphere is a plus too, staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable about the wines.

We were married at the Well May 31, 2008.  The venue is very intimate and unique and the catering and service provided by Wente top notch.  Our guests are still raving about our wedding and we are elated with what we experienced.

My only grievance (though very small) is that events stop at 11 sharp.  We were just getting going by that time!  However, we closed a bar in downtown Livermore and kept it going so no worries.

Also, I recommend that you request a meeting with your event coordinator prior to your event to ensure a smooth run the day of.  The folks you deal with in the sales office (I worked with Heather D, she was AWESOME) are not the same as the day of staff.  We were less than happy with our event coordinator and are so thankful we hired an outside planner to help bring our event to life.  It would have been bumpy without her.   A meeting ahead of time might have helped smooth the edges a bit.

All in all, our wedding was beautiful and perfect, you won't be disappointed.

I visited the place and even had a consultation meeting with their planner when I was looking for my wedding venue. I later visited the place several more times to try to make my decision and I tasted their wine too. Here are the pros and cons that I had in mind about this place when debating if I should go with them (I ended up going with somewhere else):

Pros
This is a very cute, cozy and intimate setting for a wedding that's less than 100 people.
The building is not fancy or luxurious, but it has an undeniable charm.
My favorite part of the place is the reception area. With the wine barrels sitting around, the cute pretty lights on the wooden posts, the smell of the barrels, and the perfect dim lighting, you have to LOVE the area!
The wedding coordinator was extremely helpful, organized, and experienced.
The food they will supply for your wedding is directly from the kitchen of Wente. I've eaten at Wente so I know how delicious their food is.

Cons
For a place this small, I didn't think the price was reasonable. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't that high compare to other venues in the bay area. It just didn't seem reasonable for what you get. The wedding coordinator also didn't leave any room for negotiation when it comes to pricing.
There wasn't really a view there. Yes, there is a vineyard and there is a nice building, but I was hoping to have a more depth of the vineyard landscape view. You can get a view with depth at many other vineyards. The ceremony area seems a bit lousy. I don't need to have a fancy gazebos for my wedding ceremony, but that rack just doesn't do it for me.
As much as I love their food, I didn't really care for their wine. Their wine is ok, but again, for the pricing, you'd expect something better.
There isn't a bridal room which might a problem.
There isn't a dance floor. You'll have to spend extra to rent 1 and be placed outside ( I don't think there is room to place a dance floor at the reception area) if you want dancing at your wedding. Dancing was a big thing for my husband-to-be so it was certainly one of the deal breakers.

I have no problem with the place and would still suggest it to people who are searching for wedding venue because of all the pros. After all, everyone has their own visions and priorities on what suit them the best. For me, I have to say I am very please with my decision of going with somewhere else (where is actually pricier but seems more reasonable for what we were getting).

Beautiful setting and excellent wine! After a day of wine tasting in Livermore Valley-this is the perfect last stop.   Although this winery is owned by Wente, the "flavor" of the place and wines is very different.

We visited on a very crowded day and our pourer was Don, who was loads of fun and very informative. ( I think Fun is essential in a wine pourer at the end of a day of tasting)
The tasting fee is $5 but is credited back if you make a purchase. I would rather pay $5 to taste good wines than get free tastings of those that still have a ways to go.    I liked the Los Tesoros Tempranillo (which was the same as the Meritage) and  we all loved the  the Zarzuela -like the other Yelpers. This was interesting because half of us were white wine lovers so this seems to be wine that will appeal to a broad audience.

After our tasting, Don set us up with plastic cups/opener so we could enjoy a bottle of wine at the tables outside . The tasting room was closing but he snuck us a dessert left over from the wine maker dinner the night before. (Chocolate mousse with raspberries)
The setting, wine and dessert made for a complete "This is the life!" moment as the sun set over the hill.

Wow, I'm pretty shocked at some of the reviews.  This place is my absolute favorite of all the Livermore wineries.  Their reds are amazing!  They charged me $5 for a flight and I was able to mix and match.  The pourers were very friendly and generous with the pours.  I ended up buying a bottle of Los Tesoros de Joaquin Mourvedre.  It it amazing.  I am waiting for a special occasion to pop open the bottle.  If you're a fan of reds, I would totally recommend this place!

Love the wine! Consistently one of the best in the Livermore area.
Club has some fun events, my only complaint is they need to split the events  into a couple of seatings like Steven Kent so its not so crowded.

This place is always interesting.  They produce and blend some Spanish & Portuguese varietals that you do not typically find at California wineries.

I highly recommend the Zarzuela.

$5 for tasting.

I really dislike playing tasting fees at winery, I'd much rather them pour me less, since I tend to pour them out anyways.  But I didn't mind it here, because the wines are excellent.  The crackers they serve is not bad either.

I liked the Zarzuela and most of the reds there.

Another winery recommended Murrieta's Well to me, and I was pleasantly surprised!  When the lady at the previous winery said it was "cute"  and I should check it out... this was not what I expected!

I got impeccable service, and awesome information.  The wine was fabulous, and the woman working was very personable, and helpful!  This was my favorite winery of the day.

If you're ever out in livermore, check out this winery!

Reds were pretty good; the tasting room was very spacious but still super crowded.

I would give it another try on a less crowded day- we didn't get a lot of attention because there were so many people.

Bonus points for the sample table with all the mustards to try out with pretzel sticks.

I have a ton of fond memories at this winery.  If you're not in the know, you'll probably drive past it.  Beautiful scenery and surroundings make it hard to believe you're in the Livermore Valley.  If they told you this was Napa/Sonoma, you'd never doubt them for a second.

The interior has been remolded to accommodate two tasting bars instead of the previous one.  Nice decks to look out over the vineyards as you sip your wine.  Couches inside make it easy to relax plus meet other winos.  A little off the beaten path but well worth the time and effort to visit.  Less crowded than the wineries on Tesla.

Chilean wines really shine!  Lots to like here.  Have I said how many nice memories I've had here?"

this has always been one of my favorite and by far the most under the radar wineries in the livermore valley. working for wente vineyards in the past we were also working with murrieta's well which meant we were in charge of catering weddings, banquets and other events. the very first time i laid my eyes on this place i was amazed with the setup and how beautiful everything looked. oh and the fun we had here will never be forgotten.

the well barrel room would be the place where most of the events took place just downstairs from the very small yet surprisingly adequate kitchen. everyone around this place was always so friendly and the wine seemed to always be pouring with ease.

murrieta's well is the ultimate setting in the livermore valley for any kind of event you may have. sure wente vineyards may bee a little more well known but for a more memorable and intimate experience look into visiting murrieta's well as soon as you can.

I don't know if I visited here on an off day, but I wasn't impressed by the wine selections or the staff. The lady who served us seemed a little standoffish and disinterested in making conversation with our group. None of the wines were particularly memorable (especially for a $10 tasting fee), but I'm unsure of how much my opinion was swayed by the fact that I didn't feel very welcome during my time in the tasting room.

I just had my wedding at the Well and it was absolutely amazing!! The venue is gorgeous and the staff were incredible! Not to mention the food! Delicious!! They are also very reasonably priced! We looked all over Napa and Sonoma for the venue of our dreams and we found it in Livermore!

One of the better wineries in Livermore. If you are going to taste here be prepared to pay.  The flights are decent  but you still have to pay. I really like the both the white and the red meritage. This winery is not close to the others but is worth the a visit.

Gorgeous venue for a wedding or rehearsal dinner. We were there at night for a rehearsal dinner and they easily accomodated at least 100 people in the tasting room and there was still plenty of space to move around. There was a great guitarist and singer entertaining us in the background. The food was good and while I never saw the bottle, I assume they were pouring either their own wines or a bottle from Wente. I'm not usually a chardonnay fan but I actually liked the free flowing chardonnay that they served. Thank goodness for designated drivers.
