I used to go the Murphy's nearly every Friday night. It is a great bar, good atmosphere and a generally a lot of fun people there. Murphy's is a good place to go hang out with friends and meet some new ones and play some pool or darts.
It's been quite a while since moved away from St. Simons but I have great memories of Murphy's -

Maybe it is because I haven't smoked in close to 3 years, but I could not stand going in this place anymore. I use to love it.
This past weekend we opened the door and walked in. It was so smokey that we left after about 5 seconds of standing there. After such a short stay there we smelled like smoke all night.1 Previous Review: Show all »

You want to hang with the locals? Don't go to Brogen's, go to Murphy's. This is the place where my uncle used to get into late night fist fights. It's the place where you leave smelling like an ashtray and the place where you'll probably get hit on by an old man with one tooth.
I took my parents here once and a scary guy at the bar asked my mom where she was from. When she responded "I'm from St. Simons"...he said "well I aint never seen you in HERE before". Yeah, I don't think mom has been back to Murphy's.
Man, I miss that place... -

My cousins and I decided to check this place out because it was supposedly the "happenin' place to be." Alas, once we were there, we found out that it was not really happenin' at all. It was cute. The decor was interesting and different. I had a pool table. But the clientele was a lot older than we were (40s+). It was a pretty quiet scene, and didn't have much of a "fun" or "party" atmosphere. This is more of a laid-back, chill place. For instance, the section that we were seated at resembled a library (bookshelves, books, and all).
The good thing though, for a New Yorker such as myself, is the prices. For $3.50, you can get a GIANT (and by "giant," I mean a full pint-glass) vodka/cranberry, and it's mixed STRONG. Hoorah.Listed in: Georgia on my Mind
