You gotta try this place at least once.  It's definitley one of those restaurants that Guy Feiri would visit on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. There's nothing glamourous about the way it looks, it just serves up some pretty good food.

Everything is pretty much deep fried or super sized! The first time I ate here was a "cheat meal" from working out and I underestimated the portion sizes. I had a 1\2 lb cheeseburger and the BBQ aka CRACK fries. The fries were drowned in cheese, BBQ sauces, onions. With a drink, the total came out to a little bit over $12.

Hole in the wall shack status definitley. I wouldn't eat here on a normal basis just because I would weigh 30lbs more then I do now, but its definitley a must try and one of the more unique spots in Davis.

BURGER was AMAZING

problem is prices are horrendous

but the REAL problem is the wait.

i've waited more than 45 minutes for burger and fries before . FUCK that .

the only times I've ate here was because of SCION meets held there , if it weren't for that i'd never have ordered let alone stayed around.

unfortunately this just adds to my severe dislike of all things Davis

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude! What happened to the cow in which you murdered? You must have gotten it's toe and the rest of the cow ran away! I proceed to the window in which I order this tasty sounding avocado burger.  As I wait my mind starts to think about the major hype I've heard about this place. I then snap out of a 20min gaze and notice HEY where is my burger. I still see the same people that have been waiting since before me! I wander to the window asking WTH...

ANOTHER 7mins go by and BAM my treasure of a burger comes up!  I run back to my car jump on the road and retrieve this foil hockey puck of a burger, and bellow out WTF WTF WTF! I waited about 30mins for a burger the size of Mc D's reg hamburger with lettuce, cheese, tomato, and avocado! I wish I had a camera to show the size of this thing. Such a major disappointment! Murder Burger you hurt my feels so much I will never go back to you again. I understand it was a Saturday, but man you have been in business for so long you should know what to expect!! Make the crowd move! Cook the burger and dish it out with hast!  Baaaaaah you!

This was the first time I have eaten a RedRum burger. The burgers were good, a little on the expensive side (roughly $9.00 for a 1/3 pound burger combo). But I felt the quality and portions were both good.

I would eat here again while driving through to SF, but there are a lot of other options in the area.

Redrum murdeR'd my digestive system for 3 days.  Oh my God, I have been here before and it was just OK, but I thought I would return to support the locals.  Did I make a mistake...

We ordered two ostrich burgers.  I never had an ostrich burger here, my only point of reference was the 6oz Fuddruckers patty.  So I decided to try it here.  My girlfriend never had one so I thought might as well.  We just did a lot of firsts this weekend, including a tractor pull and horse racing at the CA State Fair in Sacramento, so why not top it off with an ostrich burger.

At first she felt bad about eating this bird, but then she was educated to how obnoxious and evil these birds are.  By the way, that night we saw vicious ostriches attacking JD on Scrubs, so it made her feel better.  These birds have a reputation for attacking your noggin, but I digress.

Food came out, the patty's were really small, it looked like a skimpy 2 oz patty. I paid over $6.50 for this?!  The patties seemed like they were frozen, not fresh meat.  They were also over seasoned.  So, what did I learn?  Not only are ostrich's annoying when they are alive, but also when they are being served by Murder/ Redrum Burger.  I felt ripped off by this place.  The next day my girlfriend and I had a bit of food poisoning.  my stomach was jacked for 4 days.

Never again!

I rarely give out 1 star ratings, but if there is any place that earns it, it's murder or "redrum burgers".

The service here is horrible. The employees sit around and talk to each other while work takes a backseat. It was not until I waited 20 minutes and asked where my food was that the guy behind the counter began to prepare it. I should note that it was in no way busy at the time.

Even worse than the service was the food. Their "seasoned" fries were tasteless and soggy, and their burgers and hotdogs left much to be desired.

I will not come back here, especially with the plethora of other burger joints in the area.

I'm a fan of Redrum burgers. They're big, juicy, well seasoned burgers that probably top any other paddies I've had in Davis. But my adoration comes with preconditions:

Redrum burgers are expensive. They're huge, but you'll also pay a lot. With quality burgers right across the street at In-n-Out, you'll be hard pressed to argue to yourself, "is this burger worth it?" Luckily, you can frequently find BoGo coupons in the local papers, so what once was a hard sell becomes cheap eats with a friend.

The interior is cramped and homely, but I find that charming. The fries are delicious and come in huge baskets. Redrum serves a notorious ostrich burger, but I would recommend abstaining from forking over the extra dough: a friend of mine mixed our burgers up one time (I ordered the ostrich, he didn't) and we couldn't tell the difference. Those things aside, Redrum is a great treat once and a while and is essential Davis-eating.

My gawd the serving size of their burgers are ginormous! It's like they slaughter a whole animal between their buns! With that said, the taste isn't anything too special in my opinion. Definitely avoid this place if you're worried about saturated fat! If you haven't eaten all day tho, this place will hit the spot.

I too expected more. The fries were too greasy...and I like greasy. And the wait was too long..not to order but for the food. About 20-25 minutes from order time.

Now, unlike others, I don't think that In and Out is better but it ain't much worse.

If you make a pit stop in Davis, this would be the one place you have to eat at if you haven't done so before. Pull yourself out of the In N Out parking lot and go across the street.

After all its been through, there is little surprise as to why there's an inch of grease on all the tables and menus here. There is little seating inside and the tables are tiny, but there are tons of tables outside. Prices for the burgers could be a little cheaper, but everything else is decent. The restroom is dingy and dirty, but I guess it's the all part of the experience.

must try:
ostrich burger
bison burger

must try (if you want a heart attack):
cheese fries
chili cheese fries

these are seriously LOADED with cheese

I expected a lot more from this place.

I went here one day with a friend before classes and had a cheeseburger with some nacho cheese fries. The burger was sandpaper dry and tasteless. The fries were not much better. They used canned nacho cheese and it looked like it was warmed up in the microwave minutes before being poured onto my fries.

Bottom line - walk across the street and go to In and Out. Much tastier, cheaper, and more satisfying.

We came here just because its next door to 2Bennett automotive. BF was getting his turbo modified on his Audi...still won't beat my Beemer M3 hee hee...anyhow so we just walk next door and order burgers. Looking at the prices it seemed a bit on the high side...$8 cheeseburger, plus getting fries and drinik kinda adds up....for a burger joint that is. The dining area was hot too, like say turn up the AC! Food was passable but I think if we come for the car again, we'll go to the In an Out across the street. We took the food back to the car place and ate in the waiting area. They had wi-fi but I didn't bring the laptop.

- Ostrich burger is delicious!
- Strawberry Milkshake
- Onion rings are gigantic! (not that great tasting though)
- Garlic fries were good

Great place to stop at on the way to/from Tahoe if you're feeling like some classic burgers, fries, and shakes!

Murder (Redrum) Burger is a hole in the wall joint. The wait for our food was roughly 15 minutes and it wasn't even that great. We ordered the hoagie (medium in spiciness) and it tasted like a steak and cheese sandwich at Subway that had been toasted. It was alright, nothing to rave about. I don't even want to talk about the oil soaked nasty garlic fries we ordered...*shudder*

This semi-hefty man was sitting down and he had ordered onion rings. The onions are sliced about 2 inches wide and the batter that coats it could keep me warm for the winter -- it was so thick (yes, that's what she said). Seeing him eat off the batter, then working his way into the oil covered onion was disgusting. He then commented and said..."this tastes like a onion filled salty donut."

EW.

We should have went to In-n-Out across the street. Seriously.

Murder Burger is the quintessential burger joint in a college town with duct tape on the benches, kooky trivia on the table, and a dog friendly policy.  Oh yeah, they get one star just for letting my friend's dog, Teddy, sit on her lap.  I also love the sign in the front asking patrons not to touch or feed the employees.  Classic.

I have to give them credit for offering bison and ostrich in addition to the artery clogging delights of 1 lb. burgers, chili cheese fries, mini corn dogs.

I had to try the ostrich burger.  I liked it but the chipotle sauce over powered the flavor of the meat.  The fries were great, but I like my fries on the soggy side so you might not really dig them.  The onions rings were more batter than onion and was a bit underdone in some pieces.  I think a simple shake after battering the rings would remedy this issue.

Murder Burger is the perfect place to stop on your way home from Tahoe or if you need grease to coat your stomach after a hangover.

My first time back since the change over to "redrum" (from murder burger).  To be honest, I don't even remember how good the food here used to be back in the day.  I just remember that it was a mouth watering, greasy delight.  Well, I wasn't disappointed in the new redrum version.  I had the 1/2 pound special (1/2 pound beef patty w/ cheese and all the fixins, large drink (this is a true large size), and large fries (this is OMG size)) for $8.89.  It was a great value for what you got.  The burger was juicy and quite a mess to eat.  I don't think the patty was seasoned very well, but still tasted like an all-american type burger.  I'm not going to criticize too much because I ate the whole damn thing!  The fries were my favorite.  Get them "seasoned" if you're not watching your sodium intake.  I know I should've ordered a shake ($3.99), but I think that would have definitely sent me into a food coma.

Staff was cool, service was great.  They even loaned me a designated "water bowl" for my doggies.  Yay for a dog-friendly establishment.

My next stop here I'll try the ostrich burger and a strawberry shake.  Mmmmm....doesn't that sound good?

Scenario: I went to school in Davis and frequented this place.

Product: Where do I begin?  Thick, juicy onion rings.  Deep fried calamari rings.  Shake flavors from Dr. Pepper to Raspberry to Pumpkin in the Fall.  Ostrich burgers, veggie burgers, garlic fries, chili cheese fries... and the list would never be complete without the Annihilator.  For those who don't know, it's literally the biggest burger with everything on it, I mean EVERYTHING, and you are a beast (or Sousaphone player) if you finish it and the fries in one sitting.  Seriously delicious food and unique variety.

Service: Ok, so it is a tad slow on serving the burgers.

Atmosphere: A dive diner with an outdoor order and seating area.  Nothing spic and span or fancy.  It usually fills up on weekends when passersbye stop in for a unique dining experience.  Oh, and it's Murder Burger, NOT Redrum Burger.  I don't care what the sign says...

Uniquity: The variety of meats, shake flavors and appetizers are unrivaled and you'll not find an Annihilator combo anywhere else.  Totes worth the wait as your traveling bye.

3-star for a solid Bison burger. It was mighty tasty. Their ostrich burger is also good - a little on the dry side - but it's lower in fat. Just don't expect the ostrich burger to be juicy like a regular burger because, FAT is FLAVOR. :) I never had the beef burgers because I keep coming back for the BISON BURGER.

4-stars for the Strawberry milkshake. Murder Burger has an amazing selection of flavors for their milkshakes and many are made with FRESH fruit. DELICIOUS.

4-stars for the decent service. The decor is a dive - but I don't expect much from a burger joint.

ONE-star for ANY appetizer featuring a FRIED veggie - onion rings, zucchini, etc. My best friend and I ordered the ZOOM platter and it was gross. The onion rings, fried mushroom and zucchini look like they had been encased in a donut. When I first saw the platter I thought - "what veggie do you think is hiding inside this dough?" For the sake of your taste buds, waistline, and heart - DO NOT ORDER ANY FRIED and BATTERED VEGGIE at REDRUM BURGER.

Redrum Burger, of Murder Burger as many like to remember it, is an awesome place to eat. It would very well offer the best burger in all of Davis. It's so good that this little run down shack of a restaurant manages to stay open with the inexpensive, but tasty "In N Out" across the street.

Anyway, the burgers are really good here. I prefer the ostrich burger. It offers a lean, but tasty patty. The buffalo burger is also delicious.

This place also offers up all kinds of goodies such as fries, jalapeno poppers, and calamari.

They have the best milk shakes in town. I love their Reese's milk shake, which features real ice cream and real broken up Reese's Peanut Butter Cups inside. By the time you get down to the bottom, there is a whole bunch of chocolate waiting for you to devour. The sugar rush is amazing.

Now, the fact that this places offers arguably the best burgers (and milk shakes) in all of Davis should merit a 5-star rating. However, I must deduct a star for the following reasons:

The service can be spotty. Sometimes, you can get a kid who really knows what he is doing. Usually, a student that needs money so he has the brains to do a simple job. But at times, you will get a Davis townie that will be more interested in taking smoke breaks and listening to Bob Marley.

In addition, this place is rather expensive. A meal will easily run you at least $10.

But yeah, I keep coming back even with the inconsistent service and high prices. So it can't be all bad.

I'm a fan.

This burger will not be making it to my favorite burger list.

I recently stopped here on my way to Tahoe and was really excited to try a new burger especially with the good reviews on Yelp. Although to be fair, I suppose most people wrote good things about the Ostrich burger which I did not try. Anyway, the burger tasted very bland and the roll was overpowering despite ordering a half pound burger. I left feeling full and unsatisfied.

They get two stars for their milkshakes (I had Reeses, it was tasty!) and I appreciated the mish mash confusion of their menu (picture hand written signs combined with old magnets menu, combined with white boards all over the walls), sort of confusing but made it seem authentic.

I dont know why but I used to always question why this little joint even existed when the line for In n out across the street was always 20 minutes long for drive thru...

after I tried it (friends suggested it was good) I immediately became a fan. The burgers are delicious, and very homey-style. The ostrich burger is also yummy, but please note that ostrich meat is pretty lean, so you are not gonna get the fattyness you get from a regular beef patty.

The shakes are also pretty decent (but a bit on the pricy side since they are fresh made I  guess) and their sides are HUGE. For instance, their onion rings are more like..fried salty donuts. I'm telling you, HUGEEE....get it to SHARE!

The prices are OK, slightly higher than Burgers n Brew, but it's worth it !

Lots of burger variety.  We got some cheeseburgers and a western burger with bacon and BBQ sauce, with two basket of fries on the side -- one regular, and one garlic.

The adults at my table preferred the garlic fries over the regular ones, but the kids haven't yet seen the light at the temple of garlic...The fries were of the crispy, shoestring style -- good, but my absolute favorite are still In n' Out's fresh-cut fries.  Being right next door to the In n' Out, I thought about their fries, but didn't miss the burgers.

The burgers were all big, and full of meat and cheese, along with the usual shredded lettuce, tomato, and onion.  The western cheeseburger had two large slices of bacon with a generous dollop of BBQ sauce, and was great -- I'm getting hungry reliving the experience.  Bacon wasn't crispy, but added some great smokey flavor to the burger.

My kids shared an Oreo cookie milkshake -- they almost swallowed the cup whole, it was gone so fast.  I got one sip, at most -- a good shake from my small taste, but it's not like a must-order item.

The only drawback is that you end up paying about twice as much as what I'd normally spend at the place next door, but I was probably twice as full as if I'd gone next door, even without getting a "double" cheeseburger.

Pretty much a solid, hole-in-the-wall-greasy-burger-joint, just the way I like 'em.  I'll make this a rest stop from now on when going to/coming from Tahoe.

Murder Burger - Endangered species

It's sad, because Murder Burger's quality, everytime I've gone, has been what my rating indicates, 5 stars. It's cramped, and the seating isn't great, but hey, in my list quality can supersede the downfalls of environment. During my first 2 years, they'd slip in some coupons in the Aggie, buy 1 get one free! They don't have it anymore. : (

Here's what I've gotten:

1) Ostrich Burger: Speaking of lean meat, why of course it's lean. Ostriches are the fastest and biggest land animal bird. It has a gamey taste, and is grilled well done, because I don't know if you can do Ostrich rare.

2) Buffalo Burger: This has less of a gamy taste, but is still special. It is a little bit more fatty, and is more juicy.

Both of these burgers, have iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions yum (hit or miss, sometimes they're super stingy spicy OR sometimes they're sweet sweet!).

Maybe they have to start calling up the Aggie and place coupons in their paper again. Nevertheless, I'd come here on rare occassion, for a regular priced burger with a type5 eater buddy of mine. So come here for sure if you're adventurous and love the gamey taste. (PS: my friends have tried the 1 pound burger, the Annihilator; it will annihilate your stomach for sure). I don't recommend it because such a big burger, will always tend to be dry.

By the way, the wait might be longer than what you'd expect, but well worth it.

Bye bye! Thank you murder burger, oh sorry, now redrum burger.

Oh, they used to have

Haven't been to Murder Burger in a real loooong time. My brother & I stumbled across it after leaving a fun filled day in Sacramento. I think we seen road signs along the freeway leading us to it, back then, Redrum burger...anyone who has seen the Shining knows what redrum stands for. So we decided to check it out. Yes its an old looking place that you would have seen in the 50's but they do make an awesome burger & fries. All they had when we last went was the beef burgers. I see now that they have other exotic meats (hopefully no roadkill..lol kidding) Shakes are yummy too, thick and made with real ice cream - not that stuff that sloshes around in a mixey thing all day.
When up in the Davis area, I will definitely bring the hubby and son by this place!

Burger shack near downtown davis. When I say I shack, I mean exactly that. In case you're not carving the usual beef burger you can have ostrich, turkey or buffalo. Burgers are freshly made and served with all the usual veggies. The fries are freshly made too but it's a hit or miss with how salty it is. The same day we had one that was not salty and another that seemed like they sprinkled half the salt shaker on it. The shakes are made with ice cream so they're thick and creamy. They also have friend zucchini, calamari onion rings and corn dogs.

A burger, fries and drink is less than $10. Eat inside or in the front or back patio. There's a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. It's not the cleanest place so bring handy wipes. Usually filled with peeps from davis or families during the weekends.

Dude, you like, wanna order something?

That's the service - pretty laid back. The place is about as informal as you can get, and the building kinda looks like it's waiting for a tornado to come and blow it into the next county.

There's a lot of free reading material near the door. News & Reviews, etc. Not exactly fine literature, but very useful to pass the 20 minutes or so that you'll be waiting for your food to be called. Hey, like man, y'know, cooking all this stuff takes time, so like chill out, man. It's cool.

When it comes, you'll be glad you ordered the buffalo burger. Even though you may be shocked at the amount of your bill. You won't be as glad you ordered the ostrich burger, since it tends to be on the dry side. If they'd only do an ostrich steak sandwich and not cook it so long, that could be something...

Now on to the star attraction: the fries. If the fry chef is in the groove, the fries will immediately sling you into French fry heaven, and you'll find yourself scraping up the last crumb of fry and wondering where they all went, and why didn't I just do two orders of fries and skip the burger entirely. They crunch, they're moist inside, they beg to be eaten while they're hot, even if the burger turns to a cold pile of congealed cheese in the meantime. They're the best fries in the universe, a starchy feast for the Gods.

Are you a gambler?
Good.

Because the fries, when they're having an off day, are a pile of sodden, limp, no-crunch mutilated potatoes that should really have finished their life better than this. When this happens - less often than the great fry scenario, but still much too often - I see the glow of the nearby In-N-Out in the sky and visualize their consistently good fries that I cold have already eaten (since the food arrives more quickly there).

If you're having just a bit of luck, the fries will be somewhere between the two extremes. Whoa, dude! It's like, your karma. Just work through it, man.

Other than the buffalo burger, everything is ok to good. Onion rings are the "big batter with a slimy hot worm in the middle" variety, not really my style.

I know all that stuff about a rose by any other name smelling as sweet, but this place was sweeter before they got all PC and changed the name from Murder Burger to the new "Shining" version. It seems like the food was better then, before things got backwards.

The reason they lost a couple of stars was because of the turkey club I had recently.  What seems like a relatively easy sandwich to make was awful.  They decided to put butter on the bread and toast it with butter which didn't work, especially with the large amount of mayo on the sandwich.  My fiance didn't seem to mind it, but the smell of the butter everytime I tried to eat the sandwich ruined the sandwich for me.

For a college burger joint, this place ain't cheap. I ordered:

Ostrich Burger (see picture http://static.px.yelp....  )
Deep fried ZOOM sampler (Zucchini, OniOn rings, Mushrooms)
Peach Shake

Total Contribution to Heart Attack: $17

The place is a bit of a dive: seats held together with duct tape, faded menu items on the wall, unkempt tables. Being a college burger joint, I set my expectations accordingly. There are a LOT of menu choices including Buffalo burger, Veggie burger, fish and turkey sandwiches, fried calamari, and a dozen milkshake choices. This is the type of place I like to indulge when a clean cut In-N-Out won't do.

The current name for Murder Burger is Redrum Burger. You might note that "redrum" was used in Stephen King's The Shining, which is about a WRITER that goes on a murderous rampage because no one is reading his reviews nor sending him fuzzy compliments. In brief, responding to complaints about the original name, the owners had a contest in 2001 to rename the restaurant. After 7,000 entries, "Murder Burger" was still technically the winner, but it was agreed that the second choice "Redrum Burger" would be the new name of the restaurant, which is the original name spelled backwards. They sure pulled a fast one on the complainers.

My sister had a serious case of food poisoning from here after eating their BBQ cheeseburger, so I told her i'd vent for her on yelp. She threw up for days and practically moved into the bathroom. Diners beware!!!

Ever since  I started going to Davis more, I discovered and heard a lot about Murder Burger. Everyone telling me it's a must try. I drive by here all the time but never knew it was Murder burger since the name on top of the place is Red Rum Burger. Finally had a chance to try it after almost 7 months!

The owner/worker was super friendly and really funny.. Explaining the menu and everything. They offer burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fresh cut fries, deep fried veggies, finger foods, and shakes. They offer 1/4lb, 1/3lb, and 1/2lb servings of beef.

I ordered the Patty Melt ($5.49) 1/3lb patty with grilled onions and melted Cheddar cheese served on grilled rye bread but I chose sourdough. My friend ordered the Annihilator ($11.49) 1 POUND beef including large fries and drink.

My patty melt was not bad but I wish I would of ordered a regular burger instead. Looks better. The beef was a little more cooked then I like but still good. The Annihilator was HUGE. My friend couldn't even finish it, only half and he didn't eat the rest of the day! It did look hella good though! We also substituted the regular fries with cheese fries for $2 more. LOADED with cheese, onions, and tomatoes! That is an artery clogging plate of cheese fries. So good but I think I would of preferred the regular one more. Too much cheese!

Prices I thought were very reasonable! Next time, I wanna try the onion rings cuz it looks scrumptious!

My group of friends dropped by Redrum burgers/Murder Burger on the way to Tahoe since my friend used to goto Davis and ended up grabbing a 1/3 pd. cheeseburger from this old school diner-esque burger joint. I was recommended the buffalo or ostrich burger as being the tastier burger but having tried those before at other burger restaurants and not having the OMG DO WANT craving for them, I decided to opt out.

The place might not look like much from the outside but the burgers are pretty big and probably worth the price you pay for them. At first my cheeseburger was a bit on the bland end even with all the standard toppings, I ended up adding the usual ketchup to make it tastier. The burger itself can best be described as large, greasy, and very messy to eat. Ended up wiping my mouth almost after every bite in order to stop myself from looking like a slob.

Seasoned fries are definitely good, large serving too and you'll be hard pressed to avoid ending up in a food coma after eating here. If you don't enjoy the occasional all out greasy, unhealthy, heart attack inducing burger, than avoid this place at all costs but if you fit the Carl's Junior demographic, I'd recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Yup, still 3.5 stars. I returned for another bison / buffalo burger, which was even better this time. Let's just say I needed to hold it with two hands --  not one and drive. Burger was great; service was good. Maybe the inside benches can be reupholstered -- no, just get more duct tape!

We got the ZOOM (fried Zucchini, OniOn rings, and Mushrooms). It sounded good, but it was really awful. My friend thinks the batter is doughnut-like. In other words, we had zucchini spears encased in a non-sweet doughnut. too much dough, not enough zuc -- not cool. I wanted to speed up the mountain for fresh onion rings from Forester's Pub in Camino... or Carl's Jr. fried zucchini.

Everything here's great, except the burgers.

- Milkshakes are awesome. Some are made of fresh fruits. Other with syrups. And other with candy bars. Sweet. I recommend the peanut butter. Skip the M&M. Although they're ground up their still too big to fit through the straw.

- BBQ fries. Cheese, diced tomatoes, onions, and barbecue sauce. Eat with a fork. Yummy.

- Onion rings. Hand cut. Huge and thickly battered. Dipped in ranch. Heart-cloggingly delicious.

- Ostrich Burger and Buffalo Burger, avoid. The buns are good, but are way too big for the thin and dry patties they use.

Miss this place so much but this place is underrated. People compare their burgers to In-N-Out and whoever else but you gotta understand how long they've actually been at this location. Honestly they don't have the healthiest burgers i.e. annihilator but i like coming here because there's only so much In-N-Out can offer burger wise. Murder Burger offers up some of the non-traditional burgers like ostrich and any toppings you can really imagine putting on a burger. On top of that they offer a lot of different sides and I'd give them 5 stars but what's holding me back is their undercooked onion rings. One time I had them and they were the best and every time since the cook manages to undercook them leaving me with these huge battered onions. Anybody up for an annihilator?

Murder Burger is another great stop on the way to Tahoe, just off 80 at the Richards Blvd exit (north). It's an old fashion burger joint with a really progressive menu. I generally go for the ostrich burger because I'm not a big beef eater.

It takes a little time to get your food so if you are in more of a hurry, you might want to go to the In-N-Out across the street (I never go to that In-N-Out b/c I feel like it should never have been built across the street from Murder Burger).

There is a nice little patio as well as a few seats indoors and always parking in the back.

Lots of different shakes, lots of types of burgers, lots of ways to customize your order.

Get your greasy food here.

I've only been here once a really long time ago and I would not mind coming again. The idea of coming here just never comes up with any of my friends so it never happens.

The one time I did go, I ordered a burger and a onion rings. The onion rings had to much batter and the burger was decent. The thing you will most likely notice is the amount of grease/oil in/on your food.

In other words, don't come if you have cardiac problems. Only come here to try some greasy bad coma food, which isn't a bad thing.

I would suggest getting the ostrich burger if they still have it.
Also, just get some basic fries, I wouldn't recommend venturing farther than that.

Murder Burger? Wtf! Come here at least once in your Davis life.

Murder Burger.  Red Rum Burger.  Whatever the name is, I've heard all about it during my 4 years in Davis, but anytime I craved a burger, I'd hit up In-N-Out.  I love In-N-Out, the burger is fresh and good, and since I worked there before back in High School, I know the operation well and it's all legit.  Good stuff.  Thus, going to Murder Burger always became an after thought.

So...after graduation (a few years back, I'm old), when I was chilling in Davis for the summer before I entered the "real world," I figured it might be a good time to try this local joint where people always tells me about.  So a friend and I checked the place out since I lived close by in Allegre.  I figured, if this is my only time here, I might as well go all out, and I ordered the 1 lb burger with fries and drink.  Not cheap, but hey, why not right??

The burger was OK.  Not bad, but not good enough for me to wonder why did I miss this all these years here.  The meal wasn't anything spectacular.  It was OK, enough where I'd go back, but I'd probably just go to In-N-Out across the street.  Maybe I went in with a lot of expectations, but all I got was a burger that fed me for 3 meals.

Pros: Ostrich burger
Cons: $10.00 for a burger, fries, and a drink is kinda overpriced.

3.5 stars

Since I was on a business trip in Davis, I figured I would try to focus on "only in Davis" eating joints.  That being said, I decided to try Redrum Burger (i.e. Murder Burger).

Being the adventurous foodie I am, I decided to try the ostrich burger and some seasoned fries. The ostrich burger was actually pretty good.  It didn't taste gamey at all. It tasted just like a regular beef patty except it had a little more spice to it. That could've have just been the seasoning. The only bad part about the burger was the bun starting to fall apart.  Other than that, it was quite tasty. The seasoned fries were pretty good too, although the seasoning didn't seem much more than salt and pepper. Regardless, the serving was generous and they still tasted delicious.

The only downside about this place is I had to pay $10.00 for my burger, fries, and drink.  I mean if you see the actual establishment, you'd agree too. Other than that, I'd still give this place a try at least once. After that, you can just go to In-N-Out across the street :)

I have had In&Out for dinner three days in a roll.
Addicted.
Then I came to RedDrum to see if I'm biased of my burger selection.
No I Am Not.
RedDrum Burger is really bad.
Really really bad.
Beef with no flavour, Cheese not melting, shattered lettuce.
Onion Rings thick like Donuts. I ask for Ranch and he gave me BlueCheese.
No RedDrum anymore.
I will stick with In&Out and Hodad in San Diego until I encounter another better Burger.
Done.
