5 reviews for Mulligan's
Sure it smells a little smoky but it's one of the few places that actually allows smoking anymore. If you can get past that, you'll be able to enjoy some great drinks and the best nachos in the world. Steak nachos. Seriously wonderful. So head to the bar, get a drink, and enjoy some of their great bar grub if you're looking to relax in lakeway.
Also they have a great monthly ladies night with drink specials and vendors too. It's the 2nd Saturday. Last month i got cheap cosmos and some jewelry too! Definitely worth checking out.
This used to be one of the few places in our neighborhood to eat. Now that there are some choices, I don't expect them to stay in business much longer. The place is super-smoky... even in the non-smoking section. I like the avocado wrap but it's not worth the air quality to eat there. We started to eat at Waterloo Ice House instead. I like to give the local guys business but not when it's so smoky.
"*cough*cough*... I think I'm getting the black lung, pop. "
Can someone please turn on the ventilation system here?! I mean please, I would like to be able to use my lungs tomorrow. And to think at one time I was against the smoking ban in Austin. After two showers and a day outside to air out, I have finally lost the stank-ass smoke smell from my hair. All this coming from a smoker...now you know it's gotta be bad, right?!
Mulligan's is pretty large for a Lakeway bar. I always imagined it being a hole in the wall with a few domestics on tap and some whiskey on the shelf. I was surprised when I walked in to find a fully stocked bar and three large sectioned off areas for all you entertainment needs. One section, the SMOKING section, is equipped with pools tables, shuffle board, TVs galore, arcade games, and on the weekends, a local band. The middle sections, where you walk into the bar, is scattered with empty tables and a sprawling full bar. And the last section, the non-smoking section, is also spotted with pool tables, TVs, booths for dining, and a full arcade. This is what I would call the kiddie section.
Other than the LITTLE smoke problem, this place is actually pretty neat... a lake rats version of an adult Chuck E. Cheese! Pool tables, shuffle boards, Big Buck Hunter arcade game, a Led Zeppelin cover band, and Yeager bombs coming from all which a ways. And to paint a picture of the targeted consumer who may visit this lovely establishment I refer back to Steel Magnolias when Clairee Belcher comments on the mayors wife at Shelby's wedding reception " Looks like two pigs fightin' under a blanket". So take that image, change it to a man wearing leather chaps and shakin his thang like a salt shaker.... Good. Hillbilly. Fun.
Not a good place for non-smokers but want the real dirt? Check out their inspection scores... 70 out of 100 (Sept '08). I think I'll pass.
This is a non-smoker's hell. There's no escaping it, like having to stay in a hotel room where the smoke is embedded in the drapery fabric.
Used to be this was the only place to get a quick beer in Lakeway. But now we've got Little Woodrows - and I don't think I'd ever go back.
