Fan is short for Fanatic. And yes, I am a raging Fanatic when it comes to the NFL, and especially the Indianapolis Colts. To my knowledge, Mullens is one of two Colts bars in Chicago. The other bar (I will not mention the name) SUCKS!

Obviously, it's quite popular in Chicago to have sports bars represent a few select teams. Makes good business sense, right? Yes. I've been coming to Mullens on most game days for almost a year, and here's where Mullens is different than most sports bars:

1) They honestly bust their ass to cater to Colts fans---I have NEVER had to wait more than a few minutes for a beer!

2) Good drink & food specials on game day
3) The BEST bloody in Chicago!
4) Good bar food. Hence "bar food" But, I honestly have not had anything on the menu that was not good.

5) Very attentive bar staff and servers---A+  Especially Jason...who I believe runs the place or is the Manager?

I've owned several businesses and there is not one employee here that I would not want on my staff, if I were still an owner. Business 101---treat the customer right and they will return!

Mullens does it right!

Here is a place I like for lunch.  It is normally more relaxed than in the evening and you can grab a sandwich and a drink for cheap.   I love the buffalo chicken sandwich and get it almost every time I go here.

It does get busy later at night, which is not my cup of tea, but then again what bar on Clark does not.

I'm shocked that any bar along Clark St. in Wrigleyville can get me to muster up 3 stars... I love a good party and all, but let's just say Wrigleyville isn't my scene. I literally shuddered when my friends suggested Mullen's for an evening out. Having never been here, I was picturing a John Barleycorn-esque fiasco.... Nevertheless, I go along for the ride since I want to drink.

So we get to Mullen's and it's surprisingly not crammed to the rafters with a full-blown frat party. I'm shocked!!! It's a wee bit too sporty for my tastes, but that was forgiven once I started kicking ass at foosball. Overall, we actually got chairs and tables for the group and we occupied the foosball table for a reasonable amount of time with no "bro-titude" from Chads.

Foosball - $1/game
Beer- $5
Being able to swing a dead cat without hitting a Trixie/Chad duo in the heart of Wrigleyville - PRICELESS!!!

Ok, ok.  I know what you are thinking:

"Helena!  What are we doing in Wrigleyville?  You are not 22 anymore and your purse is comprised of more fabric than the average girl's dress."

True.

But walk with me.

Avert your eyes to the mayhem on the street and head into Mullen's.  Ignore the skeevers and their suggestive dance moves and make your way toward the back.  We are going to the patio, and I promise it will be worth it.  Keep walking - past the young'uns smoking right underneath the "No Smoking!" sign and hang a left.

Behold, a patio gem!  Somehow, it manages to stay open past the obligatory midnight patio-closing time (perhaps because the fake-ivy covered lattice hanging overhead counts as a "roof"?).  Pull up a chair and enjoy.

Another key selling point for Mullen's: the kitchen stays open until 1AM!  That's right, I had a tasty spinach and cheese quesadilla OUTSIDE! PAST MIDNIGHT!  And they said it couldn't be done!  Service was stellar as well - and it appeared there was only one server working the entire patio, so kudos to her.

A Colts bar in Chicago? There is no way I cant give this place 5 stars!! This place gets pretty rowdy with Colts fans on gamedays its a really fun time.

They have some pretty good beer/food specials for gamedays too - 25 cent wings on Mondays (really good too) and $3ish beers. Burgers here are also pretty good.

I thought the place was rather small...but they have a nice private outdoor patio and an upstairs too.

This has been my go to place in Wrigley for a few years now and it never lets me down. Here is why-

Though Mullens is surrounded by some of the lamest bars in the city (you know the type of bar that bring you staright back to college, but not in a good way) it is truly a diamond in the rough. The staff is so friendly, and service is always prompt, even on busy Friday and Saturday nights. The food is great. The wings are the best I have ever had -ever. And the general attitude is come as you are and have a good time. There are darts and foosball for those of you that are into that and the patio in the back is great and has 3 huge tv's. I love this place...if you have not been you should check it out at least to try the cheesy garlic wings. You will NOT regret it.

Owned by the same people as the hundo and the deuce...and it's just as sh*tty.

Yeah, I don't give places one star very often. It takes a lot to tick me off. But this place was definitely in the top three of worst service I have ever had in any establishment.

So they were super cool to cater to the NU fans last minute, when the NU-Syracuse game was picked up by ESPN 360, which basically means streamed in off the internet or something because no place had this channel. Not even Lion Head, the usual NU away game bar...and they didn't want to pick the game up, hence the switch. They had the game broadcast in a separate party room upstairs...that was meant to hold about half the people that showed up. Ok, maybe NU doesn't have the fan base of, say, Michigan or Ohio State, but come on this was ridiculous. They also had ONE - count em, ONE - bartender. For all those people. I sent boyfriend downstairs to get beer because it took 15 minutes for me to get one. After some douche bag guy up there tells me "Hey I was in line for a beer". Guess what buddy, you're never in line for a beer when you're at a bar. Not to mention he was at least a foot taller than me and could've shouted his order to the bartender. Whatever. This is why I don't go to alumni events.

Anyway, impossible to get beer, absolutely no way in hell we were able to order food because we never once were able to get a server come to our table - they would only service people up front and blew off all other tables - and the sound quality was atrocious, especially during halftime when they tried playing Kanye West (great pick in light of recent events) off somebody's itunes and the file was really bad quality. My alarm clock speakers sound better.

Seriously if I ever have to go to an away game broadcast here, I'm not going. I'd rather pay the $25 cover in tourist town to watch at ESPN Zone. Or steam it in over my internet at home. Or just not watch the game and suck it up.

Lion Head, never thought I'd say I miss you, but I do.

So I decided to throw my next installment of Brotacular Brodaciousness at this spot. I know some of the things I type aren't words. However I think some of the things that I type will become words in the near future.....you don't? Stop reading then.

So this place is really wide open and it has a wooden theme. The walls are wood, the bar is wood, the floor is wood, the tables are wood and the chairs are wood. Someone (that wasn't me) farted near the bar.....I thought i was going to die. I wanted to light a match. But everything was wood. I could have died......thanks a lot.

So this place has alcohol and its near wrigley...doesnt that always translate to epic Chad fail? Well this bar is something of an anomaly for this area. Only towards the end of the night was the cool guy to jagbag ration uneven.

The wings were absolutely some of the best I have had in Chicago and they were reasonably priced as well. I would have to say the garlic were the best. OK. I guess I WILL say it...the garlic were the best.

Was that last paragraph a "Review Fail"?

The prices were great and they had darts, Foosball and maybe pool? I wasn't paying attention.

The only reason I am dropping some stars was the layout. It was kind of unimaginative and sterile in there. I would probably add a star if I was a regular here.

Yelp's spell checker says Brodaciousness and Brotacular aren't words. You guys need to work on updating your spell checker.

Sorry.

At the end of the month, I cross the threshhold into my mid-30s (I don't know entirely how I feel about this yet).  But for someone about to hit the top of the hill, I feel as though I'm still pretty young and fun.  I still sing the karaokes sometimes, I still know the hip with the kids musics, and sometimes I even (when I'm not sitting in a chair with my arms crossed) do the dances.

That being said, this bar made me feel incredibly old in a way that even other bars in Wrigleyville never have.  It's like this is the bar the 22-year olds from the suburbs all plan on going to together on a Saturday night.  Most of the guys there (outside the motley crew that was the Yelp Manifest Destinhe event) did not even look old enough to shave. Even the waitress, a really cute redhead, looked to be about 15.

But for a nursery school (oops, I mean college) bar, there were some sort of steep prices.  While it's not surprising that there was only one drink special on Friday night, it was surprsing that a bottle of Old Style was $4.  There really should be an ordinance passed in the 44th Ward that Old Style can never be more than $3 (except inside the stadium).  When I ordered a Guinness, expecting it to be $7, I was pleasantly surprised that it was only $5.

The food is reasonably priced (almost everything on the menu under $10 and appetizers all around $5) for the college crowd; but the tater tots tasted like fish (Friday is a fish and chips special and I'm sure they didn't use separate oil).  And they were actually dry from overcooking.  But I have just come to expect this from any bar east of Ashland.  Note to the *entire* north side: LEARN TO MAKE TOTS!

Mullen's in not the worst place in the world by any means (compared to, say Slugger's, it's heaven).  There are darts and foosball and large televisions (one of which shows the Onion News Network) for distraction from the kids in kidlike pursuits (on my lawn). Still, I do not appreciate feeling old before me time and this bar puts me in that place.

Came here for the dude yelp event. Its definitely a great place to go to have a good time but not be inundated by crowds and 21yr old kids from Niles.

The bartender asked us why we picked the bar. I replied... "it's the least offensive place in wrigleyville".

I think that sums it up.

Brodown!  That was fun.

The bar was aptly described by several reviews that I read before coming, and by Pinaki--the least offensive bar in Wrigleyville.  Damning with faint praise, yes, but I actually could tolerate this place even without a gang of cool broze to distract me.

Spacious.  Not terribly loud, in music or crowd noise.  Beer on special even on a Friday (sure it was $3.50 Shiner Bock but [shrug]), and $5 fish and chips.  I didn't try any of the food but I observed some tater tots and buffalo wings disappearing like cocaine off of Robin Williams' coffee table.

And friendly staff which took good care of us, too.  They were just as smiley and accommodating at 1:30 as they were at 8:30.  Big bonus points for not hiring the typical Chicago surly bartender and bitchy waitress.

It starts the night as a mixed crowd and gets younger and younger until I wonder if Chicago has passed a new drinking-age ordinance since I walked in.  I honestly wonder if my age-estimation ability has badly deteriorated, or if there are a lot more kids with fake IDs than a decade ago.  It's not bad in and of itself, it just...makes me feel old by comparison.

I may have been imagining this, but somehow their plasma TVs seemed crisper and brighter than any I've seen outside of an electronics store.  I'm not sure how they do that.  And they keep the place well lit so that you can see exactly how attractive is that 23-year-old to whom you are talking.

This is so confusing and kind of funny at the same time.  I know I've been here a few times, and most recently so last month - but I can't ever seem to remember much about the place.  I guess it's not the type of place that really stands out unless you met someone from here.  Maybe I like it because it's so comfortable and casual that it doesn't need too much dressing up.  I guess its become the last stop that pushes me to go home.  Now it's coming back to me, I believe that there is an upstairs and that they have pool tables, darts and - and I remember saying no to shots and making one of my friends suck it up to drink mine. LOL.  I guess this is the place you go to when you are already so drunk that it becomes the last stop.  Hmm...maybe I'll be back again, but probably not too soon.

This Mullens reminds me too much of a chain establishment.  No homely feel, like what you get at the Rogers Park location.  The setup, the arrangement, even the type of tables and chairs can easily be removed and a barber shop could move in and no one would realize it went missing.
It's only benefit is that it's in the heart of Wrigley, cross the street and your at any one of many more popular / rowdy bars.

You know why I love it here now....They have Shiner on tap.  Yay!!!

It's a larger bar that's more laid back and has mostly college kids, but there are some older people in there too.  As a result, the people watching is ROCKING!

I've never had any food here, but the menu is typical bar fare.

Okay, so look, Mullen's isn't exactly up to the level of the other places I've given  4 stars but you have to take this review in context.  Mullen's is 4 stars *for Wrigleyville* in that it's one of the few places on Clark I can tolerate.

Mullen's is much quieter than most of the other Wrigleyville bars and we've always been able to snag either a table or some bar seats.  The bartenders and staff are always really nice (which I find amazing given the level of douchery with which they must have to contend on occasion).  Last night was the first time I'd  ever eaten there and I have to say for greasy bar food, it was pretty darn good.  We split the tater tots, chili cheese fries, mozzarella sticks and BLT (between three girls....it was a ridiculous amount of food).  Bonus points for the  BLT since they actually got the bacon nice and crispy and it wasn't fatty and gross.  The chili cheese fries were good in a clearly going to induce a heart attack way.  The mozzarella sticks and tots were just okay.  They also had a drink special last night (3.50 Shiner Bock) which  was awesome.  Most of the Wrigleyville bars don't have specials on weekends at all so though Shiner Bock isn't my favorite, I appreciated it.

Which actually pretty much sums up how I feel about Mullen's.  It's not my favorite, but for Wrigleyville, I appreciate it.

Consistently great bar food, nice servers, tame crowd. It's almost as if you aren't in Wrigleyville which, if you live there, is a good thing.

However. Went there tonight to watch the Hawks v Wings game. Place was nearly empty and they had the game on a TV. Cool. No audio, though, so we asked the bartender if she could put the game on. Said she had to ask the manager. She did, came back and said she couldn't do it. I was w/a five person group, about half of the people in the bar, and they couldn't put on the game audio.

Bar managers, listen up: Bears are done, Cubs aren't playing, Bulls suck. Hawks are kicking butt. ACKNOWLEDGE IT! You want to bring people in on slow nights? Pretend like you give a damn about the only franchise that can do something in the winter! I don't have an MBA, but I'm fairly certain that turning away hockey fans that WANT to spend a few hours in your establishments isn't a good idea.

I had yet to venture out into the craziness that is Wrigleyville until last night.  I think this was a bad idea.

As the cab I was in snailed along through the traffic and drunken people in the street, I overheard, "Whhooooo" so many times that I knew I was going to spend the rest of the night completely annoyed.

I met my friend at the bar in Mullen's.  First impression, eh, just okay.  Decent place, a bit loud.  Then we went upstairs.  To be fair, there was a private party, which we were invited to, and so maybe my review should be for the idiots at the party and not the bar itself.

My friend and I felt like the chaperones at someone's basement party in highschool.  The music was blaring and all 80's all the time.  The most obnoxious part about this is that the kids in this joint were singing along and dancing Molly Ringwald style to songs that were made before they were even born.  I danced like Molly the first time around, 20 years ago,  I didn't need to do it again last night.

I got hit on by a guy so drunk he could not even form complete sentences.  Not to mention he was so young it felt kind of dirty.

All of this being said, my 22 year old self would have probably loved this dump.

The least douchebaggy place on Clark on a Saturday night. If you're friends are high on the Wrigley scene and you aren't, this is the place to compromise with.

Prices are reasonable for the area and they have darts and foosball. It also has a small patio out back and is usually crowded but rarely ever packed. You can actually walk through the bar without spilling your drink, and it never takes long to get a beer.

I happened to be in this neighborhood last Sunday and was super starved for some cheap ass food and beer, so I decided to try this place out.

You ask: why here? I don't know. I don't really do the Wrigley thing that often, but I am always open to trying new places.

Well, I am so glad I decided to visit this little place. It's not a typical Wrigley sports bar. It's small, not too packed, and the waitstaff is super friendly.

Try the chili cheese fries and a cold beer, you won't regret it.

Mullen's is the quintessential Chicago sports bar. My favorite of all of the Wrigleyville sports bars, Mullen's boasts the best dart setup, a wall of plaques, decent TVs, a wide jukebox selection, good food, foosball, an outdoor patio area, an upstairs bar.

Three dartboards line the back wall in the main bar room with electronic scoreboards and enough room to throw. Skill range of players in the bar runs the gamut as some players play in the bar sponsored leagues and some are the drunken yuppy kind who are willing to put drinks on the line as a wager. The bar darts are a bit blunt, but if you ask the bartender they will gladly hand you a sharpener to load up your darts.

Mullen's is a great place to watch the Cubs game during home games and is always full on the weekend. If you get there too late it may be a bit too crowded with little chance to play a quick game of darts, but that is why I like heading down there after 5:00pm on Fridays to get my practice in just in time for the bar to get too packed and then someone will have to play to gain control of the board.

The food is great and I recommend any of the wraps and appetizers. The burgers are standard and the wings have several sauces to choose from, and there is always a drink special on any day of ther week. Hands down Mullen's is my favorite bar in all of Chicago.

Great place to visit if you are in the Wrigleyville area!

Great staff and great drinks. They usually have some sort of drink specials, which is always nice. The bbq wings and fries are the shiznit, especially after a great game of darts here. Very good prices on the food and drinks.

The more times I visit this place, the more I like it!

It was opening day for the Cubs, 2008, and after a rain-and-beer-soaked outing in the bleachers, we were ready for yet more beer, a few shots, and FOOD. So Mullen's it was.

It was pretty crowded so we were ushered upstairs, where I hadn't been before. We were lucky enough to snag a table in the corner, so we dropped our many layers of gear on the table, ordered drinks, and let the good times roll.

There was only one waitress for the entire upstairs bar, but she was efficient and kept the drinks coming and took our food order immediately as well. The food came out in a timely manner, and it wasn't half-bad...no West End, mind you, but good nonetheless.

The only problems I had were:

1) only 1 stall in the women's bathroom. This KILLS me, since everyone knows that women have bladders no bigger than a pea.

2) At the end of the night some in our party, not naming any names (Todds) decided to stag leap around the bar as if performing some sort of awkward and drunken ballet. We were asked to cease-and-desist....which was too bad since it was sort of amusing.

At any rate, good times to be had by all (good times, good times), and I have the pictures to prove it- as usual.

See you after the next Cubs game I attend!

They are very accomodating for those sports nuts out there. I went to the University of Richmond in VA and Mullens was one of the only bars to get the FSN package. Other big bars in the neighborhood said it cost too much for them to get it ($1000).  The food was pretty good too from what I remember:)   I had a grilled cheese and fries.

Prices are not bad either, definitely a good place to check out the game

A nice little non pretentious place to grab some greasy quick bites, drink some beer on special and meet up before or after a show at Improv Olympic.  OR catch some of the up and comings on the upstairs part of mullen's where they host many improvisors in their quest for stage time.

Mullen's is a favorite hangout of iO improvisers after a set.  Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan.  There's not a lot of seating and some of the views are obstructed by support beams.  The service is generally inattentive.

On my last visit, I decided to try the food.  My pulled pork BBQ sandwich tasted more like a pulled boot leather BBQ sandwich.  It was like something you'd pull from a convenience store microwave.  The fries were nothing special.

If you're just looking for a place to hang out, it may fit the bill, but it leaves a lot to be desired in the way of comfort, service and taste.  And after Cubs games, a fire marshal should be on hand to shut the place down.

This is one of the few bearable places in Wrigleyville.  While most places are amateur hour you can be sure to have a good time at Mullen's.  The crowd is always a mix of young, old, punk, and prep.  There's always a server waiting to help you and drinks are usually cheap.  Their food is pretty good, but not excellent.  If you're stuck in Wrigleyville and need to get away from Barleycorn this is the place to go!

This is a great place, and sometimes the only place, to watch a Northwestern football game.  I find it somewhat strange that this is the only NU bar in the city that I'm aware of... but whatever.

I've also come here before and after cubs games.  The food is pretty decent for bar food and the crowd is a definite upgrade from the cubby bear.

My friends are large advocates of the dart area in the back.

Great place to visit...when the Cubs aren't in town. Or even if they are.

The food was good and reasonably priced, the televisions were excellent and tuned to every important sporting event of the night (including hockey: rare) and the staff was great.

Another important factor to consider: The bar stools were very comfortable. I'm getting to that point in life where perching myself on a backless stool just doesn't cut it.

Had no idea this was also an NU bar, but based on that and the above, I'll definitely be back.

I tend to be a "You-CAN-judge-a-book-by-its-cover" kind of girl. But now I've realized that apparently the look of Mullen's sign has always thrown me off -- and I shouldn't judge that way! For some reason I always thought it would be like the rest of the Wrigleyville bars -- obscenely large and open (and maybe even two stories to overstuff the place with drunkin frat boys). But I was wrong -- it's actually kind of "nice" (read: nice for a Wrigleyville bar) inside!

I will point out I've never been during the Cubs season (and will keep that way) -- and only on Mondays. But it turns out that's the best time to go! Quarter wings and $2.50 Coors Lights. And may I point out that the wings are among the best -- with just the right amount of crispiness to the skin and a delicious buffalo sauce! Mmmmm! My new fave Monday night spot.

Darts & beer - two of my favorite pastimes.  That alone is the reason this place gets 4 stars.

I have always had a good time here.  Good laid back place with free darts - if you can ever get a board!  Just don't forget your ID - you'll have trouble getting into the next bar without one.  Stick with beer here - like most places in Wrigley hard drinks here are kinda ehhh.

I really like Mullen's and here's why:

I was there one night with some buddies just hanging out during non-Cubs Season.  Mullens was pretty crowded but not TOO crowded (kind of the happy medium) and I like to take advantage of their good beer specials.  For some reason, the manager asked us to move tables towards the back (not cool enough to sit near the door?  Just kidding, he.).  We didn't even think twice about it and were just happy to still have a table.  Apparently, the manager felt horrible for making us move and he apologized profusely.  Later even, he came back to apologize again and bought us all a round of whatever we wanted.  That is pretty solid service - he minded that we had to move more than we did.  This is the type of service that keeps people coming back for more.  Nicely done, Mullens.  Nicely done.

ps. I have never tried the food but am pumped to try the wings now. .

Mullen's is okay, its your typical sports bar. Only plus is the fooz ball table. The kind of place you go to, to get some beers and watch a game.

They always seem to have a beer on special at all times. Yes, that is a comendable achievment. The staff is friendly, they have real darts for a dollar (play all you want), and the bar food was pretty good.

Eh, the people who go there are so-so...but overall it's like a "every now and then stop and get a beer type place"

Well, if you're hungry, you can stuff yourself here because the sandwiches are HUGE. Worth the money for sure. I had the Reuben and it was top notch. Much like the rest of the surrounding bars, you can only get plastic cups for drinks on game days. They have a big Bass mirror over the bar but don't carry Bass. I always find it weird when places do that.

It was a nice night last night and they had the windows open in front but it got kind of hot in there and I was hoping they turn on some air but no, they didn't. It's smoky even with the windows open so I assume it's even worse when the place is closed up. Darts, juke and foosball...all well maintained and new(er). Lots of TV's and they made sure to put a few different games on (hockey, even! thanks!) which is great. I hate when bars have 10 TV's and insist on showing one game on all 10.

Service was great, beers are on the pricey side at 6 bucks a pop for imports. Ouch.

Mullens.. Mullens.. Mullens.. Saturday evening (around 6:30pm) I showed up to meet my already boozing friends! Overall we did have a good time. I have to say the door staff, they were all really nice considering how loaded my friend was by the end of the evening (9pm for him!!) The problem is..shocker!!.. the waitstaff.. oh wrigleyville.. how I loathe your hiring of looks over brains.. I think you lose money in the end. First waitress (she was doubling as the bartender too!) I had to repeat everything twice, EVERYTHING!! And still you got the drink order wrong.. your corrected it... fine.. then a new waitress comes by, still can't get my drink order right despite my ordering it by NAME over and over and over again.. this is how is went
Me: Can I have a Black Cherry Effen & Soda, this is sprite
her: yeah.. sprite.. that's soda..
Me: no club soda!!
her: oh... yeah

I thought for a minute.. is it my fault..was I not specific enough.. no.. no no wrigleyville.. looks over brains!! Damn i forgot..

Not to say I don't hire girls that are cute but... for some reason I got lucky with the smart ones!!

ANYWAY... My friend went to pay his tab with the bartender (same girl as our original waitress) she had never even started him a tab and asked him what he had so she could ring it up. In my experience (I manage a place downtown) when this happens, we have to take the shit end! It was her mistake. The other bartender behind the bar was appalled by the conversation and let my friend go with a $9 tab or something insanely cheap. And after all of this he tipped the bar like $15... so they didn't totally lose out!! But guess what.. I did with the service and will not be back...  Ah.. I feel better now!

I really can't think of better bar in Wrigley to watch an away game. Just an away game. Unless I'm ATTENDING the game I typically steer clear of this 'hood on game days. Friendly staff, decent bar menu, (tater tots!) reasonable prices. The ex and I used to hang here quite often and a lot of the same staff is still working here.
