Wonderful pottery studio/store! I took a variety of classes here, and then became a studio potter for awhile until time and money forced us to part ways. The classes are great- all of the instructors are very nice and helpful, and, most importantly, PATIENT. In fact, pretty much everyone at the studio is really nice and helpful- it is a close community of very supportive amateur and professional potters.
Almost everything for sale in the store is made by the potters who belong to the studio- even the earrings they sell are made by one of their own! The studio/shop is a true labor of love for the owner, who is one of the studio potters and instructors himself.
Go check out some of the pieces made by some former students, and you might be inspired to hit the wheel yourself!

Have you ever wanted to recreate that muddy sexy scene in the movie Ghost? Well I have! Unfortunately you would need to buy your own wheel, glamorous loft and come across the apparition of a young buff Patrick Swayze in the realm of your apartment.
I joined Mud Sweat and Tears because I threw in college, and well-even as a fine arts major, I was pretty bad at it. This class is one night a week for 10 weeks, reasonably priced with a great array of teachers and assistants. It is clean, and it has a gallery space in the front where the more masterly potters display and sell work. Studio time is open on the weekends and it is available in a very un-intimidating environment.
You might not be getting it on with a ghost behind you, but it is relaxing, meditative and gratifying. It is pretty cool to be able to eat out of your own creation, so if you have a knack for that- give it a whirl!
Oh wait Patrick was alive at that point, ha ! Cant blame a girl for tryin!

If you are looking for a unique gift, this is the place to hit. Studio potters have their wares on sale and also will do work on commission. Not everything will strike your fancy, but you are sure to find a beautiful and original piece in wide range of colors and sizes.
The best thing about Mud, Sweat & Tears is that it offers classes/studio time to potters of all levels. The beginner teachers are FABULOUS...extremely patient and helpful. As you progress, they give you more freedom in what you produce at the wheel or in handbuilding exercises. The studio is truly a community, with potters sharing ideas, techniques and stories with each other on "open potting" times on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The classes are cheap and include all supplies.
