I played here on Saturday at 1:30 pm.  What a course.  Great views.  Great greens.  All around very nice.

Not the longest course, but still a challenge.  Just a touch over 6,000 yards from the back tees.  If you miss too much on your tee shot, you will be punished for sure.

-1 stars for sand that resembled hard pan in certain places.  As these courses get stretched by this bad economy, I guess some fine details have to go by the wayside.  Apparently, the bunkers are the poison of choice for the Mt. Woodson greens staff.

I must also give a shout to http://Golfnow.com for providing us with a $40 rate.  We saved about $60 and I need a deal these days.  I'm not sure that I would pay $100 to play here even if I could, but with http://golfnow.com and Mt. Woodson's services combined , I will be back for sure.

Good course for all skill levels.  Go have at it!

I got to play this course yesterday for the first time ever. Mt. Woodson isn't the closest course for a San Diego resident but it's well worth the drive. The facilities are nice and clean and the staff seemed on top of their game. We had an 8:08 tee-time (http://golfnow.com) and they let us on even earlier so we could get home and catch the Chargers game! The course: simply amazing. The greens were well-maintained for the most part and the fairways were nice and trim (HA!) but what made this course so great is the layout. It's an advanture just getting around it. The scenary is unmatched in my opinion but boy was it challenging. Bring plenty of balls because I lost 4 in the bushes and 2 in the drink. Highly recommended.

Hidden up on the mountains in the outer San Diego/Escondido/Ramona area, you drive along a path flanked by uphill views of polished sand-colored rocks and boulders.  Seeing nothing but gravel, sand and shrubbery, you keep driving until you reach the oasis that is the Mt. Woodson Golf Club.  Amongst the sandiness lies a lush oasis of the golf course and what some coin "the castle."  This "castle" is a rustic cottage-like mini-castle dark-wood paneled rooms and cobblestone walks.  The castle gives the place a woodsy enchanted forest-like feel, which lends itself to an amazing outdoor wedding.   The locale in addition to the temperate night weather made for a perfect evening for a wedding ceremony and reception.

While Mt. Woodson was a stunning venue for an absolutely beautiful wedding, I have to dock off one star for the rustic feel for the place.  While the rusticness of the stone walls and walks made for a charming setting, the grass and the roughly-stoned cobblestone paths did not help someone like me who forgot the it's-an-outdoor-wedding and stiletto-heels-are-not-recommended memo.  As frequent as I expect this place to be used for weddings and other formal events, you'd think they'd at least have more railings, advertise low-heeled shoes or if anything polished the stone of the steps just enough to accommodate handicapped walkers (heels or no heels).  My husband had to help the high-heeled me and an elderly woman walk up and down the stone stairs during the outdoor reception.

I got a Red Dot coupon for this places, so got a great deal on this course.  But, it may even be worth paying the full price.  It's in the middle of nowhere, but it's surprisingly green and pretty.  What I like about this course, and about any course in general, is that the fairways don't run next to eachother (like Riverwalk), and the drive between holes is long and pretty.  The course is in pretty good condition and it's rarely busy.  It's quiet and nice, and conducive to good scoring because it's fairly straighforward.

Mt Woodson is a great course.  It's a pretty good value, but it's short in length.

It makes up for it with great views in the mountains and canyons, and it's a very tough course when it comes to accuracy.  I left my driver in my bag for almost the entire round and I was playing whites that day.

There is a very unique element on this course.  The course built a wooden bridge between holes 7-8?  (I don't remember the hole numbers).  It's a lot like riding one of the old wooden roller coasters.  A local told me the course spent a million dollars just to build that into the course.  Well worth it.

The one thing I hated about the course was their sand traps.  The sand was wet in a lot of the traps which is like hitting into wet cement.

I played this course on Veteran's Day with a bunch of old co-workers and although it was a beautiful course and a beautiful day... my golf game wasn't so pretty.  I have no idea how many balls I lost.  And I really thought I was past that whole "pick up your ball half way through the hole" thing.  Guess not!  haha.  Anyhow, they don't serve alcohol which is kind of a bummer.  And if you're heading there from SD it's a long-ass drive.  I had fun but don't think I'll play there again.

I must admit that I have not played Mt. Woodson in two years.  However, it was a 10/10 for the 20+ times I played it in 2004.

Scenery:  10/10

this is a pretty place to go to a wedding at. i recently did. the outdoors vibe is peaceful and pretty. but they dont have easy access to bathrooms or nearly enough bathrooms! also the grass and stone path ways were very hard to walk on for every girl in heels...kinda dangerous with out hand rails. over all the place is pretty, but very spread out and also its out in the middle of know where so if you are gonna drink make sure you have a plan to get home.
