Lots of people complaining about the price of cupcakes here.  Ok people this is not a donut shop HELLO!!!!
Thought I would help establish that.
I had the coconut cupcake, it was fantastic.  Most cupcakes places I go I never go back (Campbell Ca, not gonna name names).

    The Cupcake:
It was moist and very delicious.  I paid $3.00 for this thing and it was worth every bite.

    Frosting:
I don't know how to explain frosting so let me tell you what it was not.  It was not hard and stale, overly sweet and tasteless.
    IT WAS EPIC AAAWWWWWW YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!!!

Get down there and get one, then get another and before you know it you'll be on the  biggest loser.

Literally a boutique... with clothes... AND cupcakes o_O

Selection is minimal... but they do have some mini cupcakes for $1.50 each.  They ran out of the red velvet... so I settled for the coconut on coconut, caramel chocolate on chocolate, and pumpkin.  I had a bite of my friend's mint chocolate mini cupcake, which had a good mint taste, but it was a little ont he dry side.  My favorite was probably the pumpkin flavor... though there's nothing extraordinary about this place. Some cupcakes were dry and not as moist as I would have liked. Doesn't beat my favorite cupcake place in SF (CAKO!).

Every now and then you crave a cupcake. I sent my husband out to get me a Mrs. DeLish. He decided the 6 cupcakes for $15.00 was a good deal so he came home with a variety of surprises.

He ordered peanut butter chocolate, chocolate chocolate, oreo, Boston cream pie, vanilla caramel, and pumpkin spice.

The pumpkin spice tasted moist and delicious and was easily my new favorite. The icing tasted like cream cheese icing you'd find on top of a carrot cake, I loved it paired with the pumpkin spice. The oreo tasted oily and stale, the icing was pasty, and it ruined the entire cupcake. Boston cream pie was fun to try though I probably wouldn't order it again becasue the ratio of cream to cupcake was off. Too much cream, messy to eat.

The other cupcakes were nothing to write home about but they stayed true to flavor and the texture was not gritty or stale. If this were Cupcake Wars, they wouldn't be eliminated in the first round but the certainly wouldn't win first place. $3.00 a cupcake is a fair price for a store front cupcake in Monterey.

Sigh - I miss Georgetown Cupcake in Washington DC. I don't think $3 per cupcake is expensive as long as it's delicious and fresh. For me cupcakes are special treats so when I get cupcakes, my expectations maybe little high. I asked a person who works there if they were all made today and she said yes then quickly corrected herself by saying, "Well, I mean, they are all fresh". I wish she told me the truth so I only could have gotten the ones that are made today or yesterday then the rating could have been higher.

I got vanilla and red velvet. Red velvet deserves 3 stars because it was moist and I could tell it was made within 48 hours. However vanilla was so dry and I could tap the surface and make a sound. It was definitely not made within 24 hours - possibly 3-4 days. So I give 1 stars to vanilla which results in 2 stars for this place.

If you are craving for a cupcake and driving by in the area I would suggest stopping by and ask for the freshest cupcake that's made same day then you would be happy. In terms of taste, they were good. Mrs Delish must have all the right recipes for her cupcakes but I seriously think cupcakes are all about being moist which Mrs DeLish failed to present in her cupcakes.

This place is easy to miss unless you know what you're looking for. The cupcakes are moist and the frosting is delicious. Lots of unique recipes to try. I knocked off one star for the price. Yes, they're on par with other cupcake boutiques, but I wish it was more affordable to bring home a dozen.

Gave a $3 cupcake a shot.  More expensive and less ornamental than sprinkles, karas, Mongolia, noe valley bakery, ect.

I have had better cupcakes at safeway. The cake was forgettable and had no flavor. The frosting  again was not memorable. Gritty, too sweet, lacking flavor.

A complete joke for the price.

If you live in a bubble you will probably love shoving your face with this overpriced nonsense.

Not worth it at any price, really.

I don't generally comment on cupcake/cake places on Yelp since I make cake myself, but my husband and I were were in Monterey over the weekend and drove by this shop.  It's kind of a freaky obsession of mine to try any cupcake shop I come across, so we turned the car around and popped in.  Here's why I needed to write this review.

Most of the time when I get cupcakes from shops I take 1 bite and toss it because they are improperly baked, the "recipe" is Betty Crocker out of a box, there's too much Crisco, Costco vanilla tastes like ass, or they have been sitting in the display for a day or two so they are hard as a rock.

This time my friends, I ate the whole thing.  Devoured.  I actually wish I had gotten more then one.

That was a GOOD cupcake, people.  As a baking scientist myself I can tell you white cake is the hardest to make properly, which is why no matter how many freaky flavors any shop has I always get a vanilla cupcake - call it my personal baker's test.  At Mrs DelLish, the vanilla/vanilla cupcake I had was fresh, NOT from a box mix, it was a perfectly executed scratch recipe that was perfectly baked, and it was topped off with a wonderful buttercream.  I'm glad I stopped.

Probably the best cupcakes I have ever had!

Skip the Chocolate Mint, however. The mint frosting tastes like toothpaste.

The other flavors we had were amazing!

    Pumpkin
    Chocolate Coconut
    Lalaberry? (something like that)

The cupcakes were perfectly moist and NOT from a box mix thankfully. The frosting was creamy and not too fluffy or dense.

I'm glad I read Yelp first to know it was cash or local check only. It isn't well marked in the store either, they should put it on the door or mark it better. Also, it is a VERY tiny storefront, this is not a huge bakery.

If you are in the area, definitely stop here.

    SO TASTY!

These have to be the worst cupcakes I've ever had. Seriously.

The cake part was completely dried out and had no taste. The frosting was terrible and I actually felt sick after eating it.

Not only that, but they're extremely expensive. For $3 a cupcake, these should be the best cupcakes I've ever eaten. If you're sole business is to make one thing, you should be REALLY good at it.

After a satisfying dinner from Babaloo food Truck at the PG farmers market, I needed something sweet. I came across the Mrs DeLish's cupcake stand at the market and decided to try one of their delectable looking cupcakes.

After asking about each cupcake I decided on a coconut cupcake with coconut frosting, and it was served in a leopard print cupcake paper to boot! The cupcake portion was amazing, it was light and fluffy and moist, and had a nice coconut flavor. The frosting was also very good, it was thick and there was a generous amount of frosting, but it was unfortunately not as coconut flavored as I had hoped.

I have also had their cinnamon cupcake with cinnamon cream cheese frosting, I think I prefer this one to the coconut one. I hear that their oreo cupcake is also amazing, I will definitely have to try that next...

I got the mint chocolate and while the frosting was okay (not  very minty), the cake was horrible. I am a cake fanatic, and rarely  if ever have I met a cake i didn't like or couldn't find some redeeming  quality in. These were dry and flavorless. The chocolate cake didn't taste like chocolate. It was sweet, but that's about it. It was super dry and the entire outside and bottom of the cake was hard- like it was cooked in a microwave or something. My 3 year old wouldn't even eat it.

Oh, and the location looks like a crackhouse. Awesome.

I have frequented many cupcake shops from San Diego to Sacramento and I was not at all impressed with the cupcakes at this shop.  In fact saying they tasted mediocre would be a highly paid compliment.

I did, however, notice that one particular flavor was a direct rip off of a family recipe handed down many generations from the Starz Cupcake shop in Capitola. When I saw it in the Mrs. DeLish shop recently, I was in shock.  (This flavor happens to be my FAVORITE flavor and the owner of Starz Cupcakes told me the endearing family story of how it was created years ago!)  I think that is bad form to steal a family recipe from another cupcake shop that the owner of Mrs. DeLish herself has bought cupcakes from to duplicate.  If your cupcakes are good, you shouldn't have to seal other people's family recipes.
    Shame on you.
We will definitely not be coming back.

Found this place on an Internet search whim for cupcakes near Monterey since we were in town for a visit. We had just recently tried Kara's cupcakes in SF and were not impressed.

Mrs Delish did not disappoint! We ordered a dozen of mixed flavors my husband was impressed with the banana. The cupcake was heavy and the cake itself felt soft and moist to the touch! Out of all the cupcakes we tried there none disappointed! Yes they are rich and sweet, but isn't that what a cupcake should be? I loved the cute leopard wrappers, it was cute and fun and better than a plain one.

Only thing is bring cash! I wish that had been a more prominent note, I didn't notice until we were all boxed up and we are from out of town so even if I'd had my check book, I'm not local...

    We found Mrs. Delish's Cupcake Boutique after having to park a couple blocks from the Aquarium. On our walk over, there it was. And to our delight it was open and there wasn't a line. We wanted one of each but settled on;
    Choc/choc
    Red velvet
    Carrot cake
    Oreo cookie
    Cherry

I stopped by here with minimal cash and maximum hope and excitement. The cupcakes are $3 each and they only accept cash or check. So I could barely afford 1 cupcake and I had to make a decision as to which one. I got a basic chocolate with vanilla frosting because if that is delicious, then I know they know what they are doing. However when I tried it, I was not impressed. The chocolate flavor and consistency tasted like that of a cake mix from a box. There was nothing impressive about the frosting. I'm a serious baker myself and have frequented a lot of cupcake shops from San Francisco to New York. For the price, this left me really upset. I want this shop to do well because we really need a fantastic cupcake shop in this town.

I have been here once after Mrs. Delish's opened.
The young woman behind the counter was very courteous and pleasant.  She knew all the cupcake flavours and she easily pointed to and rattled them off to me after I asked what they had available.

I bought a half-dozen different flavours with their "buy 5 get a 6th free" option: chocolate, peanut butter, red velvet, strawberry, vanilla, and pumpkin

    LOOK
The cupcakes looked nice, in that lacklustery way grocery stores make their oceans of baked goods.  But to be fair: since the overpopularization (no, that's not a word) of cupcakes, I haven't seen many cupcake decorations that impress me.

    TASTE
Unfortunately, they did not taste as nice.  The standouts to me were the pumpkin and the chocolate.  The rest were very "meh" or "extra meh".

I have baked many cupcakes personally, have tasted different kinds of cupcakes from various bakeries and cupcakeries throughout California, and I can't say Mrs. Delish's cupcakes are anything special.

    AMBIENCE
Mrs. Delish's branding theme isn't my cup of tea; it's a little too 'cosmo-leopard print, sassy, kitschy chic" for me.  But that's not a knock at the establishment, that's just a personal note ;)

The spot is definitely tiny - well at least the front area where the cupcakes are bought and sold.  But that may have to do with the cost of rent and the lack of options to renovate old buildings in Monterey/Pacific Grove area.

I do enjoy seeing and experiencing new local businesses, and I applaud the ventures in our local economy. It's just a bummer that "small, local" doesn't always equal "great".

NOTE: I realize web/marketing needs are costly to small businesses, but Mrs. Delish's website needs updating.

A friend brought me a sampling of these cupcakes saying that they were better than Sprinkles....

Red Velvet - just ok. tasted like a cupcake i could make at home.
Coconut/Coconut - best of the bunch..love the toasted coconut. i'd even say better than Sprinkles.
Espresso - ok flavor but i wouldn't pay to have it again.
Cherry Bomb -  really didn't taste like anything at all except peanuts which coated the top. (I got this cause I liked the name)

Overall better than Sprinkles...not a chance.

I know the cupcake craze is at full tilt right now, but this place is really something special. I am from NYC and have tried about every cupcake place there. And this place holds up real well to the best of them.
My fave in NYC is Butterlane, but this might just beat them.

Quick backstory, in Feb we were in Cali scouting wedding locations, and were getting tired and wanted a treat. Found this place on yelp. Hoping it would be decent. Boy is it ever. After we had our cupcakes me and my fiance looked at each other and had the same idea. Maybe this place can do cupcakes for our wedding. We asked and they could. And they did a great job. And great price too. We got to select exactly how many we wanted of each cupcake. Too many great ones to choose from. My personal fave was Smores and Samoas. So glad we went with them, the cupcakes were a hit with everyone.

I really like to support small business, but I just don't see how these cupcake places will stay in business.  Unless you have another steady stream of income, there's just no way a few dozen $3 a piece cupcakes will hold you, not to mention the loss of luster these shops will suffer in the coming year or so.

It is even worse when your product inspires a whole lot of "meh."  This shop is cute enough, super small, but the product needs to be a lot better.  The icing is sub par and the cake is the industry standard Magnolia Cupcake recipe.  They have waaaay too many flavors to chose from, most of which are not on their obsolete menu board, instead requiring the girl behind the counter to recite the list to every customer that comes in.  If they concentrated on half as many options a day, I would think their profit margin would be significantly better.  (and before you ask why I care, I run a successful bakery)

But the big downside on my visit was the customer service.  The girl let a line sit there for over 10 minutes why she "shot the breeze" with a couple of girls about everything but cupcakes.  Then it took her entirely too long for a functioning human being to put a single cupcake in a chinese take out box.  If we weren't in the industry, and curious about the taste, we would've split.  And like I mentioned, the taste is underwhelming.

As our family let us know, they're the only game in town, so they have that going, but they'll need to make some major improvements to win over travelers and tourists.  Out of the 40 or so cupcake shops I've sample dover the recent years, this one ranks near the bottom.

It is clear this business uses high-quality ingredients, but the end result is only mediocre.  For one thing, there is very little cake and way too much frosting.  The ratio is about 1/3 cake, 2/3 frosting.

I had a cherry vanilla cupcake that was made with cherry pie filling and topped with chopped peanuts.  It was an odd combination but since I don't like chocolate, it was that or coconut which many yelpers advised against.

My friend ordered a chocolate cupcake and had a similar reaction.

I'm glad I satisfied my curiosity but I won't go back.  I prefer Layers.

Now this is a specialty cupcake shop, not a bakery that sells cupcakes on the side.  The cupcakes are displayed nicely behind a glass shield, possibly to keep people from diving in.  I tried the chocolate with coconut frosting and it was really good. I also tried the lemon with cream frosting and it was very rich and not quite as good as the coconut.

The price is $3 a cupcake but they are very hearty, moist and generous with the frosting.  Unfortunately they were out of red velvet, looks like I have an excuse to come back.

Delicious frosting, but my cupcake was a tad dry.  I got the PB&J cupcake, but I warn against succumbing to novelty, as my craving for this flavor combination could have been easily (and more satisfyingly) cured with the actual sandwhich.  My mother got the oreo one (wish I had got that instead) and she said her's was moist.  It had an oreo baked in the bottom, cookies and cream frosting (generously piled on top) and a cookie sticking out of the frosting.

Service was only ok, the sales-girl spoke too fast when we asked what the flavors were and was a bit too bubbly.  Maybe she ate too much sugar, and with considering where she works, who could blame her?

I was really excited about these cupcakes when I had them at the Farmer's market... and was really jazzed about the new store opening up! I got to try amazing combinations at the farmer's market and then was looking forward to trying more at the store.

Well the first few months, the hours were incredibly unreliable. There would be a sign on the door saying "sorry, out of cupcakes!" and then she'd post on facebook later that night saying they were open again. The next several months, it seemed like any time I made it in, they only had chocolate or vanilla basic cupcakes to choose from. And honestly, those flavors are nothing to write home about, they aren't rich and decadent, there aren't undertones, nothing to justify spending $3 per cupcake over.

I went again recently and was finally able to try some new flavors, coconut mango, apple something, orange cream... and then a good old oreo, vanilla, and chocolate, since those were all the flavors they offered. Really, they were just so-so. I liked the buttercream on the apple one this time, and loved the coconut mango combo.

I don't think we'll be returning. I really had high hopes, the ones I'd had at the farmer's market were such great combos! I'm really not into the storefront without the bakery either... I wish they were baked and frosted on site. Also the large sneezeguard makes the store incredibly impersonal, and while I realize it's for the health and safety of everyone, it just is such a huge divider in an already-tiny space, it just makes you feel removed on top of the fact that you're walking into a room with cupcakes, not a bakery. I do wish Mrs. Delish luck because I admire her starting her own business, especially in this economy. I just hope they can add more flavors, more frequently, or improve the chocolate and vanilla recipes they already offer because they're just not that great.

We just happened to drive by this place over the weekend. The cupcakes are absolutely delicious! We got a coconut one and an eggnog one. For me, frosting is key. Both cupcakes were LOADED with delicious frosting and not just boring flavors (like vanilla or cream cheese). The frosting actually tasted like coconut and egg nog. The consistency was good too. Not too buttery (like Sprinkles tends to be) and not too dry or sugary. The cake (which, of course, is always second to the frosting) was also fantastic. It was perfectly moist without being oily.

And the best thing about this place....frosting shots!! You can actually buy the frosting in mini cups for about half the cost of the cupcake to use later with your own baked goods or just eat right out of the cup.

As far as pricing goes, the cupcakes are $3 each. This is pretty typical but, since the cupcakes are a tad bit small it would have been nice if they were slightly cheaper. Also, this place doesn't accept credit cards (which is pretty weird since it appears to be a pretty new store) so bring cash.

My housemate brought these home as a treat for us, which kinda makes me seem like an ungrateful biotch for giving only three stars but c'est la vie. Honesty first... or at least just behind pleasure.

I'm not that into cupcakes so chances are I wouldn't have stopped by on my own. I have to admit though, I was a little curious, based on the yelp reviews I read.

The first thing I noticed was the excessive packaging. Attractive but inefficient. Why three tiny cupcakes require two boxes is beyond me.

He chose three different flavors. I cut each into quarters so I could just taste and rate.

The first one was Chocolate with Almond Frosting. I love almond so I was excited to taste.

The frosting was incredibly sweet but I did enjoy the almond flavor. The cake wasn't dry but it wasn't moist or flavorful either. Personally, I look for a good oomph in the groin area when I bite into chocolate cake (you sexy chocolate lovin' ladies know exactly what I'm talkin' bout). It's a fine line-- or at least it should be. This wasn't even close.

Fix-it tip to the baker: Darker, moist chocolate cake and lots of toasted almonds on top. Ditch the sprinkles.

Next was the Vanilla with Peanut Butter & Jelly Frosting. Slicing it open, I noticed the jelly went all the way through to the middle. This really helped the cake stay moist. The peanut butter frosting was perfect. Just sweet enough without taking away from the actual flavor of the nut (which is actually a legume). A tall glass of ice-cold rice milk and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" on the boob-tube and you have, or rather, I have the makings for a perfectly lovely Monday night.

The third was Chocolate with Coconut Frosting. Myeh. More blah cake without the chocolate oomph. More crazy sweet frosting.

Fix it: Tone down the sugar in the frosting. Add high quality dark chocolate slivers to the cake batter. Ta-da! A gourmet Mounds Bar experience.

I don't think $3 is too much to ask. A lot of attention goes into the simple yet precise decorating. Honestly, I think a lot of their profit must be gobbled up by the leopard print cupcake papers and intricate boxes with stickers.

Hope they stick around. It's fun having such a unique shop without having to deal with Carmel.

Oh... coffee?! Hello. Buy an espresso machine? I think it would enhance and complete the experience.

$3 a cupcake on Baker's Alley... we tried the Strawberry... had fresh strawberries baked into it and a delicious and not too heavy frosting.  My friend loved it and wanted a Baker's Dozen after she devoured it.  I enjoyed the nice balance of the frosting with the moist cake but I'm not a fan of sweets in general.  I'm a salty girl.

Not cheap but a lot of time, energy and love goes into their cupcakes and baking in general (that is why I cook and refuse to bake)... so I appreciate them and their end-product.

After a little delay, Mrs. Delish's finally opened her shop on Lighthouse Avenue. After having a lackluster cupcake from her booth at Monterey's farmers market, I decided to drop by the shop try some of her cupcakes fresh and see how Mrs. Delish's cupcakes fared fresh.

The shop offers a limited supply of cupcakes every day--she prepares a mix of cupcakes every day, mostly based around the classics, like red velvet, vanilla, chocolate, coconut and strawberry, but sometimes offering more exotic flavors like chocolate-espresso or Oreo cookie. The shop is quaint--love the big chandelier and leopard-print sign--but very small, and I wish there were seating inside. The cupcakes are arranged on pedestals and priced $3 apiece (a little pricey, if you ask me, given their small size). They're open until 10:00--assuming they have enough cupcakes to last that late.

On my first return visit, I kept it simple, trying a chocolate-vanilla and red velvet. As I expected, the fresh cupcakes were much better than the ones sold at farmers market. Cupcakes are meant to be cradled in a narrow range of temperatures to keep the cake light and fluffy and the frosting fresh and moist; the last cupcakes I'd tried at farmers market got dried out and greasy in the heat. I'm happy to report that the cupcakes from the shop were moist and light. The cream cheese frosting is my favorite--the vanilla and chocolate frostings are too sweet (and a little greasy, honestly) for my tastes. I'd love to try more, but they always seem to be out of stock and they can't keep up supply to match demand--a common problem in cupcakeries, I've noticed.

They still weren't the best cupcakes I've ever had (Sprinkles in Palo Alto takes the cake for that one--sorry, bad pun), but they were better than some of other cupcakes available around the Monterey Peninsula. In fact, I've been back to Mrs. Delish's cupcake shop two more times now--part of the danger of having a cupcake shop so close to the office.

I really enjoy supporting local and new businesses and I love cupcakes, so I was excited to hear about Mrs. Delish's shop. Seriously though, $3 for a cupcake? They are the same size as I make at home, which is basically a dollar a bite. Come on, for the price of two cupcakes I can make a dozen of any of the flavors offered myself. Cupcakes aren't the hardest thing to make and it's totally a fad market. People are willing to pay a lot for a little if it's extraordinary, but these are not.

I hate to be such a downer and I really had high hopes for this place, but I think she should consider lowering the price per cupcake.

Holy Crapple is a cupcake and it's soooo G-double-O-D, good. The Cookies and Cream have a little special surprise in the bottom. Not only is there an Oreo on top of the frosting, which was pretty good frosting, it wasn't just sickeningly sweet frosting it was good. but I digress and back to the surprise. There is another Oreo at the bottom of the cupcake. It was a great surprise.
They have your regular run of the mill flavors as well. Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet. They are all quite a nice little treat. Small enough to eat more than one, but rich enough that one is probably enough.

I was so excited to hear that a cupcakery was opening up in Monterey!  Although I love Sprinkles with all my heart, it is hard to head up to Palo Alto all the time.  Enter Mrs. DeLish's!   Not only is the owner super nice, but the store is very cute, especially with the leopard print everywhere, even down to the cupcake wrappers!  I have been a few times, and this place is definitely growing on me.

When I first tried her cupcakes, it was at market and late in the day.  I have to say, I wasn't very impressed.  I feel like the cupcake might have dried out just a bit, especially with the beautiful weather we were having at the time.  Since then, I have tried a few different flavors at her store and quite enjoyed them.

I really like the coconut (although the frosting is a little too sweet), the red velvet, and the banana cupcake, which is to die for!  Perhaps in the future, I can talk to Mrs. DeLish's and get a banana and peanut butter frosting combo - my favorite!  I feel like the cupcakes will just keep getting better and better and that makes me happy to have this addition to the Peninsula.

Perfect-sized dessert which makes for a great way to end an evening.

Two minor gripes -- no credit or debit cards, and it would be fun if they took more of a chance with their cupcakes.  How about some fun, inspired combinations?

I saw this place while wandering around in Monterey and decided to stop in. Its a very cute cupcake boutique and the cupcakes are pretty good, especially the red velvet. The icing is very rich. There arent a whole lot of flavors to choose from compared to local cupcake bakeries around San Diego, but over all, if I go back to Monterey, I will definitely stop in for another cupcake!

I love pastries, especially cupcakes!  One day I went walking at Lover's Point and wanted to stop by before going home to check this place out...when I walked in to my pleasant surprise it was a small, but cute "boutique".   The cupcakes on displayed were very pretty sitting on cupcake stands...there were many flavors to choose from.  The lady that worked there came out and greeted me...she then told about all the flavors which made it easy, so I didn't have to ask about each one.   In honor of the royal wedding I chose the fresh fruit tart cupcake which it had a british flag on it, a red velvet and pumpkin spice one...all were very delicious (which I didn't share with anyone!)   I will def go back and try the strawberry one!  I had to tip the lady for explaining all the flavors!!

I tried one of the ballyhooed DeLish cupcakes today.  The store is a little hole in the wall on Lighthouse.  The proprietors are friendly folks.  The cupcakes though just didn't live up to the billing.  I tried a mint cupcake, and my first thoughts were "is this Aquafresh?"  It definitely didn't justify their boutique pricing.  You can get a half dozen at Nob Hill for the same price of one DeLish cupcake, and frankly Nob Hill's are more tasty.  So...my experience was okay, but I'll give them three stars for being friendly.
