Y'all, I was having QUITE THE DAY. I mean, mental breakdown sort of day.

I'm talking, I-want-to-force-my-head-in-a-toilet-and-flush-it-c ontinuously-while-slamming-the-seat-on-my-head-con tinuously-until-I-am-flushed-all-the-way-to-China sort of breakdown.

But I don't like to think of myself as that melodramatic. So, instead of being flushed to China, I decided just to take a bite out of it.

I don't know why I'd been avoiding Mr. Tong for so long, especially considering there are so few places in my hood to eat. But let me tell you: I went that one day, and now I keep going back.

For me, the biggest draw of Mr. Tong is that you can order many specialty dishes in pint sizes. PINT-SIZED LOVE. The funny thing is that these pint sizes are actually pretty big.* And because of the money I'm saving, I like to treat myself with another pint-sized order of something. In the end, I'm not saving anything but it FEELS like it.

That's the genius of offering cheap dishes. You just spend to the last dime for all the hard times.**

The sesame chicken is my favorite, and I like to pair it with vegetable or chicken lo mein. Their noodles are delicious and, bonus, they heat up well.

The service is SUPER speedy. Delivery is there before you hang up the phone. And take-out is just as fast. The quality of food remains perty darn good for Chinese fast food.

It's all luck if you'll get fortune cookies or not. Sometimes I get a handful, and other times, none at all. It's unfortunate.***

__________

* I can only wonder what the quart-sized portions are like. Bigger than my head, that's for sure!
** Guys, seriously. What happened to Blu Cantrell? I'm worried.
*** And for that I have to downgrade a star. I'M SORRY.  But how else will I know what's in my future? Or who else will give me advice about my LIFE?

I've been eating Chinese food from Mr. Tong since I was 3. The fact that I am still doing so is probably a testament to their quality.

Their food has fluctuated in quality at times, but this fluctuation is seemingly contained to specific menu items as opposed to the entire menu. Like, the Sesame Chicken has been mediocre for a while now, but it used to be great...but the General Tso's is fantastic now.

Last night I decided to be bold and see what the "meal for one" is. For a dollar more than most of the dinner specials, you get a ton more food. As in, you can order one of these and an appetizer to feed 2 people!

Service is always fast and they've rarely screwed up an order in the 20 years we've gotten food from there. And when they did it was a minor thing, like missing a small order of rice or not enough fortune cookies.

Mr tongs can be described as many things. great... awesome... buti settle on..the shit. ive been ordering food here for many years. the delivery is faster than you can imagine. once i timed them and they got to my door with my general tsos chicken in under 7 minutes. its the best hangover food to soak up allthe alcohol with some greasy shit that your body just plain needs after a night of liver abuse. The food is really good, typical chinese fast food but just a little better. sometimes i find myself wanting it for no apparent reason. like mmmmm cheese wongtongs or mmmmm sesame chicken. highly reccomended place, they opened god knows how long ago and ive seen many buisnesses fail on the same block as them. this should show you something. theyre open till 12 oclock on fridays and saturdays so if you get a late night craving...give them a call

This place is downright DISGUSTING! They are the rudest ppl I have ever patronized which i never will ever again. The ppl who answer the phone dont speak a word of english, constantly screw up your orders and have the audaciity to blame you when you get fed up and finally complain. Maybe get someone who can comprehend english to take the orders instead of arguing with customers??? Especially when I repeated myself three or more times to try and clarify what I'm ordering. The first time they sent me raw chicken. the second they send me something completely different, instead of complaining I just dealt with it both times. The third time my husband must've repeated himself several times only to be delivered something else. He finally called to complain and asked them to remake what he orignally wanted and the girl proceeded to argue with him on the phone. Finally when the pushy delivery man came he inspected the food like a nazi and accussed him of eating it when he didnt even touch it! These ppl are disgraceful and their anrtics are one step up from a cockroach. The delivery man took the food which made me think he was probably going to reserve it to another customer. They are disgusting people and will never eat or order from there again.

Great cheap chinese food, really decent flavors, and I love when you can get a pint of a main course instead of a whole thing you'd throw half of away anyways. Great general tsos and sesame chicken.

Out of all of the fast food take out Chinese hot spots that infiltrates kensington, this is my favorite.  Not only is it two blocks away from my house (alright so the convenience factor does play into that), but it is by far some of the least greasy and tasy Chinese food I have ever eaten.

Pork fried rice is always fresh, and the vegetables in there dishes aren't wilted.  The family that runs it are pleasant and eager to please.  Bonus points that nothing in the dinner plates is more then 7 bux.

let's just say i live really, really, really close to this place. ok, my building is on top of it. now you all know where i live. whatever.

um, do you know what it's like to wake up hungover at noon on a saturday in the summertime to the scent of pork fried rice? it is very unhealthy.

the people there are super nice, especially when i forget my key and they have a ton of spares behind the counter. but i can't tell if they're just nice to me because they're all related to my landlord. i even give them my rent check every month.

though the food is not fantastic, it's still chinese food, and it's still RIGHT THERE. TAUNTING ME. EVERY DAY. the lunch special is quite cheap, but it used to include a can of soda and it doesn't anymore :( avoid anything with shrimp or the egg-drop soup, which is more like egg-drop aspic. ew. everything else is pretty decent.
