This place is a gem, for so many reasons that transcend the great home made candy and premium ice cream treats.  You've got to keep in mind, we're talking heart of Rush Street here.  Carmine's, Tavern on Rush, Lux Bar, Gibson's - all within feet of this wonderful neighborhood treasure.  This place is 31 Flavors on steroids.

No one's yet mentioned the Cedar Crest ice cream.  This is absolutely terrific ice cream, from a small, family owned dairy in Cedarburg, WI.  The chocolate ice cream once won 1st Place in the World Dairy Expo competition.  This ice cream is only distributed to a relatively small area of the midwest, to keep its freshness intact.  Check out http://www.cedarcresti...

My recommendation:  If you're in the hood for dinner, whether one of the pricier joints mentioned above, or Hunt Club, or Dublin's, or Blue Agave (all within a few feet of Mr Kite's front door), skip dessert and treat yourself instead to an ice cream cone at Mr Kite's.  Pricey?  Not really.  Check out the real estate Dominick operates his establishment in, and be thankful these heavenly sweets are available in such swanky surroundings at all.  Close your eyes, and enjoy the cold, creamy goodness of a lick of Cedar Crest ice cream coating your tongue, as you push it up against the roof of your mouth.

This is great stuff, folks.  Dominick works crazy long hours to make this place work, and, believe me, we're very lucky he's working his magic amongst the pricier fare around him.

Maybe I stopped in here at an off time, but I was not particularly impressed.  I was walking around the area with a friend and we noticed there was a candy shop, so we had to pop in.

Starting with the disappointing:
The first items I noticed when we walked in were cute cookies/candies.  I thought they looked a little pastel/spring like ( bunnies, etc), but then figured people could make them into any shape and color they like.  Then I noticed the giant chocolate cream eggs.  I'm used to getting them at Fannie May, and they only sell them right around Easter, but that doesn't mean other stores have to limit them to Easter.  Then I noticed all of the treats decorated for the 4th of July.  Now I know those are seasonal.  So why was all of this stuff still full price?  My favorite part of holidays is buying treats on sale after the Holiday, so why are these still full price?
Then on the way out I noticed that a lot of the non-chocolate candy was pink or red and heart shaped.  I understand that places don't need to discount their treats right after the holiday passes, but if I know there is candy from Valentine's Day and Easter being sold at full price, how do I know that everything else is fresh?  I'm cheap, so if I'm paying $10 a pound for candy, it better be great and fresh.  At least the stuff I got did taste good.

on to the good:
The yogurt flavors did sound amazing, but how could I not get chocolate when there were cases of it tempting me?  I finally choose a few small things (a small milk chocolate covered toffee, small dark chocolate covered toffee, and a chocolate covered pretzel rod, for a grand total of $3.65).  Everything was good, and I would stop in here again if I was in the neighborhood and wanted a treat.

Very cute shop but overpriced.  Their smores are great and we go there just for that but what they charge for each is way more than they should.  Rent is expensive in Chicago so I guess that's what you're helping to pay for when shopping here.  I know you can get bulk candy for less elsewhere but if you're already in the area and have that sweet tooth, you'll be happy stopping by.

Their new shop is much nicer than their old one that was on State....more fancier and definitely cleaner.

Overall, tasty desserts/candy, friendly staff, great location, very overpriced.

FYI he uses green apple's for the caramel apples!!! (If you've been here you may know what i'm talking about, i guess it's an inside joke haha)

I walked by this place a hundred times and never knew it was there. Now that I know, i'll be stopping by a lot more!

Awesome candy, caramel apples, and frozen yogurt. Can't wait to get some on a hot summer day, if this winter ever ends.

Thanks Mr Kite!

They have the best s'mores, it's ridiculous. All their candy looks so good and I feel like I'm six years old when I come in here because my head is going back and forth trying to see everything and pick what I want. So fun!

Taffy Apples as big as your head.  Fudge so good you will tear up with joy.  Chocolates on things that you never dreamed of.  Nuts.  Salty and roasted and yummy.  Gifts, amazing gifts.  One of my favorite gifts I've ever received came from Mr. Kites.  Chocolate dipped fruits.  Some popcorn (not their strong suit:  Please Mr. Kite. Cheese please).

I walk by here every day and fight temptation.  Okay, sometimes I fight temptation and sometimes I just give in to the decadent and deliciousness that taunts me.  I give into the bark, the petit fours. The taffy apples.  It is amazing.   Awe inspiring gift baskets to fit any budget.  People will still remember ten years later.

I've been in love with this place since '98.
The chocolate-covered strawberries are to die for!
I recently moved back to Chicago after 4 years and almost fainted when I I went to the old location last Sunday and saw that CVS had taken over the location.
I'm sooooooooooo happy to know that they simply found a new location. I will be there SUNDAY!!

This place is seriously lacking in customer service skills, but aside from that, it's a pretty nice place. Smores, truffles, and other sweets galore.

I got this honking chunk of chocolate/peanut butter bar and I'm pretty sure that if I didn't have diabetes before, I have it now.

It was amazing.

Of course, you'll have to put 153 quarters in the parking meter, but that aside, it's worth it. Go!

I had forgotten about Mr. Kite's until a friend suggested we go there for some ice cream. It's a cute little shop, but a little dark in there thanks to the basement location. I ordered the Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream. Mmm, mmm. My waffle cone was a little stale, but my friend's sugar cone was nice and fresh. The other candies looked really tasty, and I love the decorated cookies.

Now when I walk by, I see all the sweet treats in the window and it takes every ounce of my being to not walk in and splurge on a few items.

I had the regular Smore and thought it was unbelievable. The chocolate used in it was great.

I'd give it 5 stars, but the prices are high. Smores are in the $2-$3 range and aren't big enough to warrant the price. I guess he has to pay for his rent though.

I too am a huge fan of the s'mores here. They aren't cheap, but they're really rich, so a little goes a long way. My husband and I usually split one when we went in.

They don't have it often, but keep an eye out for the chocolate-covered matzah here too. I doubt it's kosher for Passover (and I don't even think they carried it during Passover), but damn it's good. Oy.

I can't vouch for Mr. Kites nuts, but his candies sure melt in my mouth.

The best almond bark and dark chocolate malt balls ever.

I love Mr. Kite's!!!  I make it a point to stop by every time I'm in Chicago visiting family (twice a year), and I always bring treats home for my very lucky coworkers!  Dominick (the owner) makes THE BEST caramel apples-- if you ask him for something special, he'll take regular caramel apples with nuts and dip them in chocolate, then add marshmallows and white chocolate drizzle!  I once gave one to my boss and boy, was he impressed!  Since it's all gourmet, it's pretty reasonably priced given how many quality ingredients he uses.  Also a must-try are his special s'mores, which I noticed on my last trip, now come in a caramel option.  In the summer, he's got fantastic chocolate-dipped frozen bananas, as well as the hugest dipped strawberries.  Oh, and if you're into ice cream, he's got that too!  He's got everything..  don't miss Mr. Kite's!

Really good candy, and frozen yogurt too. The shop is tiny, and the walls are covered in autographs of any famous or famous looking person who has ever been there, and Mr Kite is really nice.

The last time I went in they had thongs and garter belts made of candy in the gift box section; I'm not sure where they came from, or if Mr Kite knows they are there.

Get the peanut butter smores, they're the best thing in there.

My friend invited me over to seder this year, so I brought over some chocolate-covered matzah from Mr Kite's since it's just downstairs. The matzah goes FAST! I snagged the last box. When we opened it, we found layers of milk chocolate and white chocolate covered matzah, thin and crispy and very good. Yum. I'll have to try those s'mores someday, although the concept of not eating s'mores right away boggles my mind.

Been going here ever since this place opened....around 15 years ago?  I forgot, I just remembered that I had cute little chocolate boxes made from Mr. Kite's to hand out to my classmates for my 13th birthday.  We usually get an arrangement of chocolates to give away for special occasions or for small thank you presents.  I love the chocolate from here....my favorites are chocolate covered smores, pretzels, and oreos!  The owner, Dominick, is one cool guy!!
