When I heard about the fires in Greenwood, I immediately thought 'PLEASE GOD, NOT MR. GYROS.'
How this place was recommended to me by multiple girlfriends:
"Have you been to Mr. Gyros? The owners are HOT, and super nice. Oh, and the food's amazing, too!"
I basically stand by that recommendation. I like the lamb gyro and cheese-covered fries, but I've never had anything bad here.
A good Flafel is hard to find, and you can find them at Mr. Gyros. Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside with a fresh herby flavor.
I always order the same thing, Veggie plate to go. Never lets me down. I get 3 flafels, 2 dolmas, salad, rice, side of hummus and babaganoush, and 2 whole pitas for like 7 backs. I save the pitas and I'm only allowed 2 bites of rice cause I'm fat (lol. not really) The babaganouch is awesome, best eggplant thing around. I love the light drizzle of olive oil and chili paste, and olive on top. The hummus is good, but a little too salty for my taste. Those flafels kick ass. How do you spell falafel??
I wish I could rate this place a ten! Such wonderful, simple food. The people who run it are so generous, and grateful for each and every customer. they never forget a face, and they have the best Gyros in town!
They offer speedy service with handsome smile (I truly mean that last comment. Whew those boys are good-looking)
Mr Gyros, you guys do an amazing job! Especially considering your workspace is the size of a broom closet, and you didn't even slow down on those 100+ degree days. You're troopers!
These sandwiches are friggin' awesome, Mike. They're cheap too, Bill. No shit. The boys are good wit' the grillin' & sandwich-makin' too, jerky. They call 'em rubberneck.
Go get a feggin sandwich, nitz!
Holy Smokes, I was blown away at this place, it seriously rocks!
Stopped in here for a quick dinner late in the evening due all of the excellent recommendations by everyone else on Yelp.
The service was lightning fast, and they let you pay after you eat. I literally had my food within 1 min of walking into the place.
The gyros were delicious, seriously the best I've ever had. My girlfriend ordered the falafel, which was amazing with the warm pita and hummus provided with the dish. The hot sauce at the table was also an EXCELLENT addition to both of those dishes.
I can't wait to go back.
King County Metro #5 and #48, which go up Greenwood and 85th St. respectively, stop right by here.
Okay, years ago, I worked at a place where someone from work would regularly run down here and pick up lunch for all of us. While I never had a BAD lunch, I was always disappointed by some aspect of mine, usually the fact that there was never quite enough sauce on my sandwich. So I stopped going when I realized that Georgia's puts on the proper amount of sauce, and always insisted we get lunch from there instead. Years went by.
Enter Yelp, and all of your many 4 & 5 star reviews of this place. 8 months ago, I decided to go try it out. It was Sunday. They were CLOSED. We end up discovering Olive You. Lucky us. Then, this past Sunday, I decided to try it again, again forgetting that Mr Gyro isn't open on Sunday. SIGH. Again, we end up at Olive You. Again, lucky us!
Mr Gyro got a tiny reprieve yesterday though, as Alex was randomly home from work with an injury, so I suggested walking out for lunch for the second day in a row, and going to Mr Gyro. So we did.
It's tiny in there, and crowded, so eating in was not an option. The guys that work there are super nice. I ordered a platter for the first time, rather than a sandwich, figuring the extra couple of bux would be worth it if I got enough sauce.
They are super fast, we were in and out in probably 5 minutes. This makes me wonder what kind of system they have going on, but it would be hard for me to comment on the freshness aspect of the food, since I didn't have the option to eat it until we got back home.
Ordering the platter did work out better for me than the sandwiches I'd tried in the past, due to the fact that there was hummus, and I was able to spread and layer the contents into the pita in such a way that the resulting sandwich was not too dry, which is what I'd experienced in the past. HOWEVER. There really was not enough sauce still! Why so stingy with the tzatziki, guys? I make it at home, it's not filled with gold or anything, and tzatzkiki is one of the best things ever, so why not more that a tiny teaspoon with that big platter of food? I'm not asking to drown out the rest of the flavors or anything, just enough so that evenly spread out, every bite can include a little taste!
Other than that, the food was fine. Yeah, sure I'll go back if I'm with someone who wants to go. One my own, I'd probably still head down to Georgia's instead though. Sorry Mr Gyro.
Best Gyros stand in Seattle. Wish it had more seating but beyond that can't ask for much more. The owners are supper nice guys that run the place which explains the limited hours, they got to have a life too.
I lived in Berlin, Germany for a few months in 2006 and they had a sandwich called a Doner Kebab. I've been trying to find a suitable replacement for it ever since.
I've always enjoyed a gyro but never found one that made my mouth water the way it did every time I walked into the Berlin restaurant. I was greeted by the Turkish owner. His English was very poor, my Turkish was even worse. But we became friends over food.
That is the feeling I had when I left Mr. Gyros. The person behind the counter was super friendly (he welcomed me to the Mr. Gyro's Family) and the gyro itself was great! The bread was very, very moist and the meat wasn't dry and was well seasoned.
Two thumbs up.
After 16 shameful months of living in North Seattle and never patronizing this place, I popped in this afternoon to grab a chicken gyro. Delicious. The succulent meat rests on a bed of hummus and tzatziki, and is piled high with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers.
Just as importantly, the guys behind the counter were friendly and engaging - not to mention fast! It was the tail end of lunch rush, but my daughter and I were out the door in under 5 minutes. A "People Like Us on http://Yelp.com" sticker hangs prominently in the kitchen. They're proud of their reputation, and serious about maintaining it.
There isn't much dining area space - but hey, it's a gyros shop, not a French bistro. Get your order to go and enjoy the mild Seattle weather while you scarf.
This place has a million reviews already - so I'll try to keep it short - but man, their food is soooo good. Their lamb/beef gyro meat is near perfect and all of the sauces and vegetables and hummus are fresh and doled out in the appropriate portions. Order a plate or a sandwich, you can't go wrong.
But Mr. Gyro, what's up with the hours? Not open on Sundays? Closed at 3pm on Saturdays? Maybe I'm just used to the insane schedule of Aladdin's on the Ave, but I feel like whenever I'm in the mood for a gyro (and nearby) this place is closed. Oh well, you can't beat the food.
If a Greek man married a Mexican woman and they decided to open a Gyros place instead of a taqueria, that would be Mr. Gyros' family. Picture carving beef or lamb off of an upright roticery like the street food taquerias in Mexico and adding a tiny bit of hot (but, certainly not scorching) sauce to your gyro. Authentic Greek food? Probably not. But, this place is grub! It left me yearning for a taqueria with an upright roticery for carne asada...something I've never found in the US. Maybe there's one in California or Texas somewhere...
Mr. Gyros might not please a Greek food critic, but, it's a great hole-in-the-wall for me. Someone open a Mr. Tacos next door with an upright roticery! Make it happen!
Mr Gyros? Yeah he introduced me to Mr. Explosive Diarrhea. I knew that gentleman looked a little uncomfortable handing me my dinner. He had that gleam in his eye like he's been "forgetting" to wash his hands all day. Extra star because the fries were perfect.
It's amazing how far simply being nice to people will get you. Mr. Gyro's food is good, but the fact that the folks working there take an interest in each and every person that comes through the door is what will keep me coming back.
Tasty.
Exactly what I was looking or tonight. Delicious and unpretentious.
Tsatziki was great. Hummus, like hummus. The salad actually got me to eat the cucumbers...and the meat? Classic.
Service was quick and the guy who helped me was super friendly ;)
I will definitely be back!
Every restaurant I go to makes me a million times thankful that I moved to Greenwood from the U-District. This place has the NICEST people, fast service, and amazing food.
I got the Falafel Plate, which came with a compartment of Greek Salad (onions and lettuce and tomatoes and cucumber perfectly seasoned and covered in feta cheese), a compartment of hummus (covered in DELICIOUS spicy sauce and with unpitted olives), rice covered in tahini, falafel balls, and two entire huge pitas. Basically, this is the best falafel I've had since I was in Israel two winters ago. I loved the plate 'cause it meant I could customize my sandwich the way I liked it.
The guy who served me was incredibly sweet -- "Coffee and a great lunch, sounds like a perfect day." He also gave me a punch card and "welcomed me to the family".
I will be back!
I love this place!
Firstly, the food is simple and traditional. Making a perfect place to grab a plate to eat before catching a bus.
Second, the guys who work there are wonderful! My friend Will goes everyday and is their best customer after two years now. I think they're twins but I don't know...anyways I'm always greeted with a large "HEYYY THERE!" and good conversation.
Third, although the place is itsy-bitsy the fries with feta and a nice cold coke add to the brilliance.
Far away from the green hills of Seattle is the small town of Glendale, CA--an enclave of Armenian expatriates. Here too you will find a Middle Eastern fast food establishment called Zankou.
Wet, mushy shawarma? No! The true shawarma is sliced thinly off a rotating slab of meat, lands lightly on the tongue and then dissolves in ecstasy--followed by a dollop of garlic paste created during a secret rite performed by elderly Armenian ladies. (Yes, I saw it with my own eyes.)
Mr. Gyros' lamb shawarma, however, is an over-spiced Alpo-like rendition overpowered with an herbal infusion leaving a long-lasting aftertaste which can be removed only by the application of peppermint oil, gum or toothpaste. I'm warning you.
The chicken shawarma is simply bland.
True, they are run by a smiling, friendly, and attractive family of frat boys who cheerily chat up their football-fan regulars (which explains the flat screen running ESPN, the cramped atmosphere and pounding house music). And true, they serve a tasty hummus, Greek salad and pita plate. But they miss the mark entirely on their meat offerings.
Great Food! Great Staff! Not much seating..but GREAT FOOD!
I love their Gyro!
We arrived early to Mr Gyros on a Friday night and managed to score the only sit down table outside on the sidewalk. Since it was our first time, we were a little surprised by how tiny the place was. I probably would not classy this place as being kid friendly. The small dining area inside comprised of counters and bar stools. Tables and chairs definitely make dining out with a toddler slightly easier.
Although not the best we've had in the city, the gyros and falafel were well above average and very tasty. You definitely get a good portion of food with the combo plates. The owners were super friendly. I can see how the charm of this small neighborhood eatery has attracted a large following. We'll definitely be back .. hopefully early enough to miss the huge crowds.
Best falafel I have ever had.
I could eat here every single day and not tire of it. It's a good thing I don't live next door. Even still, I am willing to drive to Greenwood often to partake!
The guys are great also, very friendly, know their customers, and they are nice to look at too!
So good.
We were heading to (dare I say it) MCDONALDS!!!! and we drove past Mr. Gyros, I was like... um yeah that sounds wayyyy better than McD's (though I do enjoy a McD's fix from time to time)... so we found parking and went inside. Very small place, I wish it was bigger but my hungry stomach didn't care. We went at what seemed like not a rush time (around 3pm) and got our food pretty quickly. I ordered a lamb gyro plate and my friend ordered a lamb gyro sandwich. They were the best tasting gyros I have ever eaten. Everything was so flavorful that I wanted to keep eating everything even though I didn't have any room left.
The guys working there were very nice and attentive and that really goes a long way. Loved it!
I wish I lived in Seattle so I could at there again! Booo...
Went to Mr Gyros on a sunny Saturday afternoon around 1:30. There was a line of about 5 people ahead of us. Fast and friendly service though. You order and pick up at the counter and find a table. The place is tiny so it's not good for groups - only 5 tables maybe and a bar counter. We managed to get the one table that was outside. My husband got the lamb gyro and greek fries - he gave them thumbs up. I got the falafel plate - yummy. The falafels were crisp and fresh, although I thought the inside part was a little wet/soggy. Still, better than the often too-dry falafels you get elsewhere. The hummus was delicious and garlicky and the pita bread was warm and soft. Fluffy rice and a fresh salad rounded out the falafel plate. I'll be back for takeout!
Nice that they have a few private parking spots for patrons. :)
I love Greek and Mediterranean food, but I don't eat beef or lamb, so I opted for one of my favorite Greek treats, a falafel sandwich. The falafel was moist, but overall, I have to say that Mr.Gyro's execution of the falafel pita sandwich wasn't very impressive.
I love onions, but the onion flavor in each bite was a bit overwhelming. Upon further investigation into what lay between the pita, I found, to no surprise to my tastebuds, that the non-onion contents of my sandwich were seriously outnumbered. I pushed aside the equivalent of a good-sized onion and pressed on, but really wasn't any more impressed. The cabbage was lacking and the hummus, while tasty, was also pretty minimal. I'm no picky eater, and I hate to give Mr.Gyro's a bad review, but sadly their sandwich didn't satisfy my falafel fix.
The place was packed and the staff was really busy tending to the long lunch line, so maybe this is to blame for my mediocre sandwich. The staff was fast and friendly and the seating area small, but quaint. I'll leave it at 3 stars for now, but I may be back again for another shot at Mr.Gyro's moist falafel.
We tried Mr. Gyros on a friend's recommendation. When we arrived, our friend has grabbed the one outdoor table and guarding it well.
We headed inside and joined the short line to order. After coming inside about two feet, I realized why my friend has snagged the outside table: it was very noticeably hotter once you got inside, due to the gorgeous slabs of lamb and beef slowly rotating on their vertical broilers.
Since it was my first time here I stuck with something basic and ordered the beef Gyros Plate (Gyros slices, two pita bread, tzatziki sauce, hummus, tomatoes, onions and pickles.) and an Arabic tea. We then paid and tripped outside to our cozy table for three.
The street ambiance on a summer Friday evening was great and we chatted for about five minutes (if that) when our orders arrived. The sectioned paper plates were filled with a green salad topped with onions and feta, white rice with a good portion of tzatziki on top, hummus drizzled with olive oil and four olives and the shining star of the evening, the beef, also topped with tzatziki. The pita came on another plate, freshly warmed and fragrant.
We dug in and because everything tasted so good, we gave up the pretence of chatting and just enjoyed our meal. I was stuffed when I finished, it was definitely filling and absolutely delicious. We'll be back!
Fuck the Heat have a cool Greek Salad on a hot day
so we went here for lunch today, we were sitting at Vivace and throwing around food ideas when the other half said how about a Gyro, I said ok but lets get off the hill and try a new place, so opened Yelp mobile on the phone and Mr Gyro it is 84th and Greenwood easy enough to get to from here
and it was well worth the trip got me a Lamb Gyro with Greek fries and a bottle of water, also got a side Greek salad, the BF got a beef Gyro and a Coke, he helped eat my fries
the flavor was right on I could smell the cucumber right off and there was actual chunks of cucumber on the Gyro, the Salad was a little tangy but cool and refreshing also, and the salad and fries came with Feta on them, I was very happy we went here
it was cool they have a lot of regulars you can tell, as they were addressing people by name, and asking if they wanted the usual or what they had yesterday
we will be back
there was a bit of a line once we got there but the guys there worked very fast. what impressed me the most about this place was that the guys who were working there already knew what 90% of their customers in line were going to order and knew most by name; which goes to show how much of a favorite mr. gyros really is.
i have never had a gyro before coming to mr. gyros. i was a bit skeptical about the dish and thought it wouldn't live up to the hype. ordered the beef and lamb gyro plate. i was surprised by how good this dish really was. i devoured my plate in less than 5 minutes. i am now a fan of the gyro and will be eating it more in the future.
OK people, don't gang up on me or call me a hater. But really - how many of you folks who gave this place 5 stars have ever actually had Greek or Mediterranean food? I don't understand how this food gets so many 4 or 5 star ratings.
My lamb schwarma was entirely bland, and the lamb was in chunky shreds like, say, tuna from a can. (My better half had the chicken schwarma, which was wet, and contained chicken which she described as "like cat food.") Perhaps the gyro would have been better?
The fresh crunchy cabbage and cucumber were both good, I guess...but rather unnecessary.
I gave two stars rather than one because the guys who worked there were indeed incredibly nice, and the fries were good.
Forget what I said below. I am now convinced that the Gyro Gods above bless this magnificent place of gyro. Mr. Gyro is a good man who will baby sit your kids and let you borrow sugar for an emergency cake you are making.
Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

I so love this place! Fast, unbelievably friendly, and one of the tastiest gyros I've EVER had! Growing up down in South Florida (where one of this nation's largest Greek populations is), I've had my share of gyros. These guys top anywhere down there!
Even better is that the owners will learn your name and greet you by it the second or third time you walk in the door! They just live to make good sandwiches and be as friendly as possible. Sometimes they give out free sodas with the sandwiches to regulars, which, beyond being a good business technique, makes you feel like you're at "your" place. Kudos on that, Mr. Gyros!
Do yourself a favor; get the platters. For around 7 or 8 bucks, you will get enough meat (or falafel), veggies, hummus, rice, and two pitas to make two full-sized sandwiches, thus, two meals. How can you beat that deal in Seattle?
Best place to eat in Greenwood, hands-down.
This little hole in the wall is great! I only wish it were bigger, so I could bring a big group of my friends & we could have a night out there. The food is fabulous, and the service is the best you can get! You get treated like a queen (or king) here. Love it!
Freshly cut bite-sized triangles of crunchy cucumber. Slices of delicious, sweet tomatoes surrounded by dark green lettuce, layered with slivers of onion. Tender, flavorful pieces of quickly flamed beef-lamb, that actually tastes like beef and lamb, muddled with a rich dressing that perfectly compliments the fresh ingredients, all cradled in soft, fresh pita, wrapping up the perfect gyro.
I'm sometimes a bit skeptical when I hear all rave reviews. But when you get a 4.5 rating with 125 reviews on Yelp, you know they must be doing something right. And they are.
When I walked in (at 2pm), there was a line of 4 ahead of me. I thought it would take 10 minutes, then noticed how efficiently the place is run. It's clearly designed to get you in and out. The menu even tells you that in peak times, they can't serve certain items. From the moment I walked in the door, 4 others were helped ahead of me, and I gave my order and had my gyro in hand, payed for, and walking out the door within a few short minutes later.
In the midst of all that efficency, the guys somehow manage to chat up customers (almost flirty with the girls, girls!), and have a genuinely energetic disposition while making your wonderful food.
There's a gazillion gyro places around town, and I've been to an awful lot of them, but this place is the cream of the gyro. Great stuff!
This wasn't exactly what I was expecting when I came in for a gyros. In the heart of the midwest, a gyros consists of a pita, a mound of lamb, some cucumber sauce and, if they happen to remember, maybe a slice of tomato and some onions. So when I opened up my gyros and saw all kinds of vegetables staring back at me, I was a little concerned.
Truthfully, however, it was a phenomenal gyros. The fries were pretty darn good and the guys working there are very friendly. While it's not the biggest gyros, anyone but the most voracious eater (e.g. me) should be content. Great place, especially in the summer.
I've been debating putting a review up, considering my experience has been the same as every one else's...attractive greek boys and delicious food.
All I've ever ordered the past year from Mr. Gyro's has been a Chicken Caesar Gyro..and it's delicious. It's like chicken caesar salad in a gyro (with cucumbers..my favorite part). I can't bring myself to order anything else because it's so delicious. PLUS I've never found any other gyro place serving the same item.
Today I ordered the same item, and one of the brothers that works there chatted me up with small talk about work, etc and after I paid he said, "nice to see you again"..Now, I work in the area but I only eat at Mr Gyro's probably once a month tops..how could it possibly be nice to see me again? Did he really recognize me? I'm going to say no, considering the amount of people who go in there. BUT he was so darn friendly it put a smile on my face. A little ray of sunshine from a gorgeous greek boy. Holla!
I love this place. I love the falafel, everything on the menu is good. Excellent service!
The guys that run the place are very cute. Too bad I am married :o)
Big baby Jesus. Have you eaten at Mr. Gyros yet?
If you've answered yes to this question, than you know that the food they serve up here is some of the best portable chow in Seattle.
If you've answered no to this question... then, well, clearly you need to go eat at Mr. Gyros.
These guys are as cool & as nice as they come. They know their regulars (they've got many) and they're just as nice if it's your first time in. If they're under any sort of pressure, cutting and slicing, spreading and serving, than you'd never know. I don't think I've such a well-oiled machine since Seinfeld, Season 8.
I had the lamb gyro. A few bites in, I was slumped over the thing, eating as though my life depended on it.... I'm still not sure if it did. As I 'Mmmm'd" and "Ooh yeaaaaaah'd" over the perfectly cooked lamb, crispy onions, lettuce, & tomato in a tasty sauce, I watched people outside walking by, confused by my curious expressions. Some gasped while others gawked... but some just smiled. Clearly, these folks had eaten here before. They knew 'that look' because they had once been me.
Good show, Mr. Gyros. $6 meals with a drink are tough to come by these days. Thank you for supplying Seattleites with tasty cheap chow.
It's because of you I'm contemplating getting the following tattoo across my abdominal region:
Mr. Gyroz 4 Life
Hey, restaurateurs, wanna see how to do it? Head on down to 8411 Greenwood, stand back, and take notes, cause these guys put on a clinic.
I really hate giving a restaurant I've only been to once 5 stars, just as I hate giving out 1 star on only 1 visit. The food here is definitely very tasty, and the customer service these guys provide is second to none. When people say they remember people's names, ask about family, etc., I don't doubt it for a second. I knew the second I walked in they wanted to help me and enjoyed what they were doing.
So this time, I ordered a gyro salad, which was delicious. From the salad to the veggies to the lamb to the tsatziki, it was like maxwell house, good to the last drop.
Thanks, Mr. Gyros. Next time I need a Greek fix, I'm coming to see ya!
I came for the food and I will be back for both the food and the cute boys serving it! The food is amazing, fast, good portions and flavor! I had the lamb gyro plate which came with salad, rice and hummus. Crazy inexpensive and sooooo good. People raved about it to me and now it's my turn. Voted best take out in Seattle for a reason.
Bottom line: there is nothing I do not like about this place.
Once you get the routine down, (stand in line, order, sit, eat, skip to the front of the line, pay, leave) then you can be stuffing falafel, shawerma, or gyros into your maw like a pro.
I begin my decision-making process on my order about 45 minutes before I arrive. I've tried everything on the menu, and you should too.
Apparently ladies from all over town find the guys who prepare/serve the food/own the joint to be pretty attractive... so, girls - just one more reason, right?
I've lived in the North Seattle area forever, but never really hung out in the Greenwood specifically. I've heard about Mr. Gyros, but never stopped in.
I'm not going anywhere else in Seattle for a gyro. Excellent quality and delicious! So many nicer and larger places in Seattle, but you're not going to find a better gyro.
(From my original review) "It's not really the kind of food I would eat once a week like I do with Gorditos, but it's definitely the kind of establishment I can see myself coming back to again and again and again and again."
What is that nonsense? I've been coming here about once a week and officially love this place. Even with a zillion customers there's never a wait and the food is always consistently good! Craziness. I can't get over how friendly the two dudes who are always there are and I love having a "healthy" dinner.... "healthy" in comparison to Red Mill or Gorditos.
Their Lamb and Chicken Combo plate makes my life better.
