My mom used to go here when she was in middle school, so I've pretty much been raised on this ice cream. There is nothing better than their peanut butter shakes. HOLY COW. I get a shake and drive up to mt. soledad. It makes for a nice day.

This place better NEVER close down.... that's on the reals!
Mr. Frosty's is a PB relic that has brought joy to many, many, many people over the years, It's your traditional Ice Cream Shop, serving everything imaginable from Dipped Cones (my favorite btw) to Shakes, Banana Splits, Sundaes, Frozen Dipped Banana's, etc.

Perfectly sitting at the intersection on Garnet Ave just before you really enter in PB, it's very hard to miss, and even if you can't see the sign then just look for the big line of people waiting for their taste of frozen joy to be served.

I don't remember the first time I came here because I was too young. The staff has always been super friendly and I've never had to wait in line too long. It's much better than any of the rediculous chain places such as BR or Cold Stone. Mr. Frosty's is a family owned joint and I respect that they have managed to remain strong in the business.

Not that Mr. Frosty's can do anything about it, but the only bummer about going here is the horribly small, poorly designed parking lot that it shares with the other local shops.

I still can't believe that this place is still open.

My husband has been coming here since he was a kid and that was a long time ago!

I've only been introduced to it when I was a teenager.

The Ice Cream here is very rich and soft, not hard like other Ice Cream shops. I'm always a big fan of big portions.

If you're in the area, stop at Mr. Frosty's and grab a shake or an Ice Cream cone and drive up to Mt. Soledad to relax and enjoy the view.

this place is BRILLIANT!!! and out of all people i would know, for i worked with ice cream all through high school. and i know good ice cream.
unfortunately i cant explain the experience in words. but it's something your gonna have to try on your own. however it's not just the amazing combos. (i get the banana boat) it's the people that  are there. i think i make a new friend on every visit.

Nothing like getting one of their huge hot fudge sundaes after a day at the beach. This place rocks!!
PS If you spend too much time at Mr. Frosty's, you may want to check out my review of Dr. Roark for liposuction...I kid you not!

When i lived in PB .. i used come here and jam hot fudge sundaes down my fat face like i hadn't eaten in a week. I really wish they had a couple wheelchairs here. Preferably motorized with a basket in back. That 20 step walk back to the car can be a real bitch.

Still mad they dont put sprouts on their sandwiches anymore, but they are still great.

Their whole sandwich menu is fantastic, try one, seriously... ...I said Try one!!!

Full soda jerk shop, they can make you any flavored version of any soda.

Chocolate dipped bananas that kick major ass.

Amazing shakes and classic softserve with or without magic shell. and they have butterscotch magic shell! Booyah!!!

Such a great little walk up lunch stop. But my advice is to park on the streets and not the private lots. the people there always block cars in and cant park for shit and ding doors. just save yourself the frustration and walk the 30 yards.

Delicious milkshakes, and big too! You get a lot for your money. Definately better than run-of-the-mill Baskin Robbins. Serves basic chocolate and vanilla cones and most days they have a specialty flavor. I love their strawberry dipped in a butterscotch shell. Wonderfully good splits and malts as well. They also offer a lot of flavored sodas which my husband really loves.

Yay for Mr. Frosty's!  I'm not a huge dessert person in general, but I love milkshakes and malts!  This is the perfect place for shakes.  They're thick and delicious and come in lots of flavors.

Love the sandwiches, too.  The manager's special is a great deal!  Service is friendly; I feel like a go back in time to a place where the people know your name and actually give a hoot.  Love it!

The gargantuan, delicious sandwiches for a quick, delicious lunch
are the main attraction for me. Roast beef, tuna salad, chicken salad,
love 'em all. Like Alex & Erin, I mourn the absence of the sprouts after
the "great E. coli scare of 1996" ( or whenever it was), but still come
here all the time. The time capsule feeling is because of the fact that
Mr. Frosty's has been here since 1949, the current owner, Debby has
owned it since 1978 and her husband John's family ran it during the
60's. True customer service... John knows the likes and preferences
of dozens of customers: what kind of mustard you prefer, no onions,
extra pickles, etc. If you're on a no carb kick they'll make your sammich
into a salad. The sundaes are great. CLOSED on Mondays!

Just your typical soft-serve joint if you ask me. BUT my boyfriend used to be NUTSO over Mr. Frosty! He would go all the time, and finally he got me hooked, too. Damnit! Our favorite order was always the Peanut Butter milkshake. It's good with vanilla or chocolate icecream in the shake, actually. It's also fun to hang out with all the other ice cream addicts waiting in line!

ONE WARNING: DON'T BUY THE FROSTY BUCKS!!! ... One time for Christmas, I decided to buy some Mr. Frosty gift certificates as a stocking stuffer for my BF. They ended up having red monopoly frosty bucks for sale, so I got 5 or 10, can't remember. It's $1 to 1 frosty buck. BUT, when you go buy something with the frosty bucks, they keep the change!!! Can you beleive that? So, if your order is $1.30 and all you have is frosty bucks, they're keeping your 0.70cents and too bad for you! What the hell is the incentive with that? I'm still pissed off at Mr. Frosty for that!

Everytime I go here I end up ordering something ridiculous like a banana split sundae.  Ridiculous because what was supposed to be shared between my bf and I pretty much all ends up in my tummy!  I can't help it, they make great banana splits!  I kind of wish I could sit inside though, esp. on really hot days.  I hate it when my ice cream melts and I feel pressured to eat it faster resulting in my bf rolling me back into the car.  That's love :)

There's always something about soft serve ice cream that makes you YEARN.

I've heard the best way to get to a woman's heart is through her stomach. That's probably explains why I always see couples walking together licking on their cones.

Romantic, you say?

Another form of foreplay perhaps?

Some things in life just serve as reminders of days gone by. Experiencing Mr. Frosty's on Garnet in Pacific Beach is one of those things. It's good'ol fashioned soft serve ice cream at very reasonable good'ol fashioned prices with the ambiance of a good'ol fashioned ice cream stand. Just something about ordering your ice cream from the "stand thru window" and sitting outside at the picnic tables the beckons back to the days of old, long before the fancy, high end designer ice cream shops took over and starting peddling there $5 cones in cold, indoor, air conditioned store fronts! At Mr. Frosty  you can still get a soft serve, vanilla-chocolate twist that is cool, refreshing and goes down oh so smooth for under $2!

A pretty solid soft serve establishment.  This place has been around forever, and it's easy to see why.

Large sundaes for not a lot of cashish.  I like to get the Mud Cup (around $2).  It contains crushed oreos, gummy worms, and chocolate syrup all over a mountain of soft serve goodness.

Next on my list of things to try: the American Sundae.  It's a mountain of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and cherries complete with little American flags.

This place proudly continues America's tradition of excess and gluttony.  HORRAY!

Oh Yeah BABY!!! This place rocks!! I can not get enough of the peanut butter shakes here. I like them so much  I can not switch flavors. This is probably one of the last mom and pop ice cream joints around. The sandwiches are excellent too, piled high of every veggie. I especially come just for the egg salad sandwich and have yet to find anywhere else with one as good. Lines are long in the hotter months but I tell ya well worth the wait...mmmm I moved away and miss this place already.

This place is nostalgic to me.  It reminds me of my carefree college days in Pacific Beach.  Located on the main drag, this place is known for its soft serve ice cream and monster sized sandwiches loaded with flavor.  The parking is a whore, but most patrons are pedestrians or bikers or skaters.  Shack style service with outdoor walk up windows to place and pay for orders and outdoor patio seating precariously placed in the parking lot and sidewalk. I can't disrespect Mr.Frosty's too much though, they've treated me right too many times and I've delighted in eating their egg salad sandwiches that were so mammoth I had to save the second half otherwise I'd never be able to slurp down my Oreo shake!
