Comfy plush chairs. Red lighting. Big TV on the wall. Lots of parking.
They have pretty good green tea shaved ice (patbingsu). It comes with lots of green tea ice cream in it, fresh fruits, fruity pebbles, the usual. It's the only shaved ice that my friends and I get when we come here. But their iced coffee sucks! It was so watery and artificial-y and just plain gross! I couldn't even drink 1/4 of it and I paid almost $5 for that thing! Ick! Never again! :(
This place isn't about giving customers what they want. It's just about sucking money out of people who are willing to go to a kick it spot and waste time because it's a cafe and in the middle of koreatown (convenient for ktowners). Sorry to bag on this place but you gotta understand------ it was sometime around 8pm. After dinner, my cousin, her mom, and I decided to try this place out for dessert. We get seated, browse the menu and decided to order two slices of cake and share three-ways because none of us were looking to finish a whole slice ourselves.
So the waitress approaches us to take our order, and we give our order. She's looking at us like wtf are you crazy? Her eyes gestures "Look at how crowded this place is." and says with attitude in korean "We can't let you sit here unless each of you order at least one item from the menu." what the eff? Am I just trippen? Are they allowed to refuse service just because the place is crowded? She didn't even offer to let us take-out. She basically told us to order one more thing from the menu or get the f*ck out.
If she had offered take-out and explained to us kindly I might've understood that sitting at a table is only limited to "more-food-paying-customers" but her rudeness changed the entire situation.
this place is supposed to be known for there shaved ice?!?
UHM... NO!
ive had much better.. i dont know why they put the ice on the top of the fruits and the red bean... and they put this cherry flavored juice on the ice.... its like.. how do you know if someones not alergic? they are so inconsiderate!!
i like yellow house shaved ice better.. and the service is wack.. i see the waiters and waitresses sitting in the table right next to me... its like... do you work here... or not?
I think that Mr. Coffee is good place to grab drink (of the non-alcoholic variety) late at night either by yourself or with a group of friends. I see people in there with their laptops so I presume they have free wifi. Anyways... I usually go late at night, usually eating some korean bbq or something. My favorite item on their menu is poppingsue. Okay... I know I just butchered teh spelling, but it's essentially shaved ice with sweet red beans and slices of bananas, strawberries, and kiwis. To top it off, there's strawberry frozen yogurt with fruity bebbles. Yummmm!!!
The rest of there desserts are okay. Nothing special. The tiramisu wasn't really like tiramisu. Definitely not authentic. Their teas are okay as well. Sort of on the expensive side though. They are easily $6. The coffee too. Besides the expensive drinks, their service isn't that great either. The waitresses barely speak any english and it usually takes them awhile to get to you. The parking situation usually isn't so bad, but the lot is tiny and on the weekends you have to valet the car.
I go back once and a while. Check it out when it's late and your in Ktown.
When I lived at 6th & Gramercy, I used to go to Mr. Coffee a lot. It's not the newest/trendiest/nicest cafe in Ktown but it's been there forever. I always walked so I never had to deal with the annoying valets. Their cobana drink is pretty tasty , but definitely not tasty enough to justify the price tag.
In my opinion, most cafes in Ktown are significantly overpriced so Mr. Coffee is no different. I don't like the fact that it's smokey even in the non-smoking section.
i dont understand why people like their shaved ice so much. I didn't like it all the times I've been there. It comes out watery and not really that interesting. Definitely not worth the price they charge.
I guess it's good to just hang out at night since its opened til late-ish. I like the red walls in the back of the inside but that's pretty much about it.
This was my first time here and it wasn't bad. I had a green tea latte and nibbled on a friend's pat bing su (shaved ice dessert). The green tea latte was really just right (altho I think it cost like $5... someone else paid the tab). I like it when I'm in k-town or j-town, I can get a green tea drink and it actually tastes like matcha green tea!
The free wi-fi was awesome too.
I give this place three stars because it's "ok." I've been to one other tea place in k-town (Koffea), but it does lack a 'something' that would make it more distinct.
who knows, i may come back and change my review once i've gone around to other places! This place is definitely a good fall-back tea/coffee/dessert place if you don't mind the price.
There are just cuter places to get coffee in K-town. I don't know, it's kind of a lot of red. And not like a cheerful lipstick and cherries kind of red, but rather a "the lighting's kind of dim and I wonder how many people would have to spill/bleed on this armchair before anyone would notice" kind of red. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad place to pass time if that's what you need. It's just no destination.
The prices, though, are destination prices, and the drinks are almost insultingly small. Tea is okay, a decent standard green in a cute, though not entirely spill-proof teapot. Hot chocolate is kind of weak on flavor. Green tea latte is pretty good, but again, nothing special. They have a random offering of food, including bingsoos as well as corn dogs.
Service isn't bad, and the place is relaxing. The chairs are comfortable, and there's no sense of hurry. I don't know that I'd come back again, since like I said, there are plenty of places I'd rather frequent. Nothing horribly wrong here, just nothing horribly right.
with time to kill the girls and i pulled over @ the mr. coffee...where the eff do u park here?? we got a 15minute parking spot in front of a bakery and risked it. went in sat down they have an indoor & outdoor seating area. larger outdoor area i think bcuz u kno how koreanos love to puffpuff their nicotine...
we got the menu but realized we had to get going so went up front to order to-go instead. i got a hot green tea for $5 the cup the size of a grande @ starbucks...thats PRETTTTTTY whack. not special just a teabag and hot water...lame...however it didnt have the teabag in it but shoot i saw how u made it...
then we got a napoleon which was also $5...what a crazy rip?? it was yum the top layer at least but hannah claims the inside was dry and tasted old...she's a napoleon feen so i trust her haha & so shud u!
The name of this place sounded sweet so i wanted to try it out!
It is super dark inside which gives more of a lounge feeling than a dessert shop would...
Everything is quite $expensive here !
I ordered a cheesecake- which was round and small, but it came out to over 5$ !!!
It was yummy of course but no need to be so over priced!!
The shaved ice is great tho! Definitely enjoyable and made the trip worth it ~
Not sure if I would come again, but good experience to try once :]
I'd say the one thing this place has going for them is their green tea shaved ice. I've never found another cafe with a better one.
Start off with the fruity pebbles sprinkled on top of the finely shaved green tea flavored ice. Under that, you'll find two big scoops of delicious green tea ice cream, surrounded by fresh bananas, kiwis, and strawberries. Underneath this layer, you will find the decadent combination of red bean and condensed milk, ALL sitting on top of a bed of coarsely shaved ice. It's big enough to share amongst 2-4 people.
Their other menu items are not so outstanding.

this is the place for you if you love green tea!
The reviews for this cafe is rather bad, and I completely understand.. But considering how often I come here, I am obligated to give it a higher rating.
Whenever my friends from my hometown visit, this is always one of the places I take them. I take them in hopes that they would enjoy the green tea shaved ice as much as I did.
I distinctly remember the first time I tasted it:
I took a bite of the green tea bingsoo and exclaimed, "OMG, its heavenly" My friend laughed, "Haha, silly susie" But after tasting it herself, she agreed that it was indeed 'heavenly'.
AND, one must add that the hispanic valet parkers are VERY charming with their extensive korean speaking skills. I am always very impressed.
But yes, otherwise.. the service is lacking. The food is overpriced. It sucks that enforce a rule that every 2 people need to order. But the green tea bingsoo keeps me coming back for more.
the first time i saw 'popping sue' (sp?) in a message. it was on facebook. and i was wondering... ummm...you're a little late for that now...
LOL.
but seriously.
once i tasted my first poppingsue here, i was blown away. i mean. holy mother of ice creams. smoothie ice cream texture, with red bean, fruity pebbles, and other random goodies tucked in a huge mound of sugar?!
count me in.
bad sides?
it's in k-town. and that means, parking sucks, usually, people are grumpy, most of the time, and the non smoking section suggests, that you will get a minimum of 2 packs of cigarette consumption through second hand smoke.
:/
but other then that. go get your poppingsue on. the coffee drinks aren't bad, but save your money on their desserts. they're less then savory. def look better then they taste.
This place is only getting getting 2 stars because they had a giant shaved green tea ice (in my pictures). I loved it--but things i did not love:
-OVERPRICEDD!! a cup of tea for over 5 dollars is no bueno for me. The cake was delicious but also overpriced.
-Ambience was STRANGE. Dark, dreary, RED, its quiet creepy.
-The wait staff is not very attentive. There seems to be 5 people working late (which is a lot) but what is strange is only 1 female is working and 4 GUYS just chilling in the front, goofing off and talking to each other. Evidently my friends wanted to come to check out the supposed cute guys that work there. I didnt think they were cute--lazy boys are definitely a minus.
Its nice that they open late. Its nicely decorated. Its nice that they have blankets for you in case you get cold. Its nice...
You go there for the ambiance, you dont really go there for their drinks or their desserts. They are way over priced, $5.75 bucks for green tea?! and the desserts were very VERY disappointing.
There's a smoking area which is outside, i guess that's nice if you smoke. I dont.
the ones in asia serve irish coffee, this one does not
so sadly it's just an over priced/open late coffee joint
A variety of different reasons for the three stars. Yes, their drinks are pretty pricey and its not the nicest environment, time and time again I find myself here in the wee hours of morning discussing random topics, like the green bay packers or going to rock bands.
Anyway, when choices are few, you can find your way here easily and there's parking.
They have yummy desserts- the kind that are bought in 24-packs frozen and then thawed in a display case. Ain't nothing wrong with that-I'll eat it. In fact I had some yummy tiramisu last week.
If you're looking for a quiet late night place to enjoy a hot drink or even a sweet dessert, why not come here- it's only 10 minutes from hollywood / 5 from downtown.
Green tea shaved ice is very good.
5 dollars for watery iced coffee with creamer I could have bought at vons (and if you get any of the fancy drinks it's 5 dollars +). Shaved ice and fruit tasted extremely artificial. The seating is cool and there's a movie screen in the back...but it's way overpriced for what you get.
Still, it did the job, because my friend was in town and we just sat down and talked and caught up on life, love etcetera.
The back room is dark, which I like since I'm a vampire. Though the glass walls of the smoking room do NOT hold in the cigarette smoke smell.
One plus is there's a lot where you can park right outside, the only thing is parking usually is a tight squeeze. I took the last spot while I was there!
I really liked the red interior. I suppose being the Bride of Satan, it felt sort of like my boudoir.
Other than that, I wasn't a fan of this place. Jason ordered an odd tea that tasted sort of like liquified Cream of Wheat (which I can't say was altogether unpleasant) but the pat bing soo we ordered was complete shite. The strawberry ice cream was a nasty, melty mess and the thing was covered in Fruity Pebbles. No mochi and few red beans, plus some sliced strawberries and bananas that we had to hunt for under the soupy ice cream. Bah!
Also, I thought the waitress was rude, but Wendy and Ben said they thought she just didn't speak much English. I think she laughed at Jason's Korean, so I'm still on the fence about her attitude.
By the way, this: http://www.yelp.com/bi... is what I want my pat bing soo to look like!
The dessert there was unimpressive, but I loved the decor and the fact that the inside was also kind of like the outside patio, if that makes sense at all. Everything was also waaaaay overpriced. Probably won't be going back unless someone wants to take me out on a date.
Went here tonight with Henry. We both needed a night out, Ive had a horrible last two days, hes been destroyed with stress and school.
So we figured why not find a nice place to sit down, talk, cry, bitch, be a little girl, and complain. The red couches are pretty comfortable.
The problems we had were the fuckin annoying entertainment systems.
The chairs we sat in were right under the speakers where they were blasting korean emo songs. My friend and I had to yell to talk, It was ridiculous. So then we decided to move to the next chair over. Instead of going deaf in this chair, I went blind by the TV projector beaming away at my eyes. Had to scoot over.
We didnt enjoy our time here at all
left in about 15 mins
hate you! ........... but i like your red couches.
Overpriced drinks.
No boba.
Bad service.
Not my scene.
But the shaved ice is soo good.
I freaking love shaved ice.
Oh and they are open late.
Very pricey as far as coffee/boba places go. The overall price for a drink on the menu is $5.75... anything from an iced tea to a can of coke? Blah... rip off! I ordered a taro tea and paid $6.28 for it. I could probably get the same thing for two dollars cheaper (and with boba) at another place.
Came here once about a year ago. When I went, it was one of the better cafes around that I had been to. The prices were higher than a normal coffee shop, but what do you expect? You're paying for the atmosphere and they gotta make money some how so I never felt bad paying 6 dollars for a small treat. I ended up staying there for a few hours anyways, so it was kind of ok. The interior is simple, nothing amazing but it's a bit dirty which kind of didn't sit well with me.
I am not giong to go back here becuase I got a bunch of other spots to go to, but it wasn't that bad.
Pros:
decent atmosphere
open late
Cons:
dirty
not the best at what they do
BY THE RECTUM OF HADES THIS PLACE BLOWS.
All im really going to say is. $5 for a can of coke. WARM COKE.
mr coffee = fail. I seriously want to write more but i cant because its just so bad. i am sad now. i will cry my self to sleep and wake up with a soiled mattress. mommy where are you? i like cheese.
nom nom nom,
James
Overpriced I can tell you that.
But a nice atmosphere and a cute waitress.
The 24 hour billiard place above it is bomb though! : D
Do NOT like the interior at all. It's all red and scary and crap.
Their desserts taste really bad (do NOT ever get the tiramisu here).
Service is bad. Especially this one girl waitress who overcharged our table by 10 dollars and when we questioned it, kept insisting that we were wrong and weren't adding the tax correctly. Turns out we were right and she was mentally impaired because she didn't write out our orders correctly.
Their only redeeming factor that merits them 2 stars and not 1. They have really good frozen yogurt. Which for some reason is not written as frozen yogurt on the menu. It's under Gelato Day (don't really understand how gelato = frozen yogurt). It's alot creamier and not as tart as pinkberry's. The frozen yogurt is the only reason I still go to that place once in a while.
I came here around midnight on a thursday (going into Friday) night. It was me and about 10 other college buddies, wanting to chill and get some cafe food/drinks with each other after a banquet.
The prices were expensive, the service was awful, and they imposed the "you have to order x items because your group is so big". Completely lame, because it's 12 AM and the weekend isn't quite here yet. No one else would come in, and everyone in Ktown wants to smoke so they'd sit in the patio. Besides, their prices are extremely high AND we ordered things like bing-soo that people usually SPLIT.
Uncalled for and unappetizing. They had a sandwich (ham and cheese) for 6 dollars. They sold a cup of noodles (yes, noodles that come in a cup) for FOUR DOLLARS. You can buy them for 10 cents at costco. Expensive expensive expensive.
My strawberry milkshake was okay. The bingsoo was pretty good though, I will admit. And the atmosphere was nice, with the velvet chairs.
The only other perk is that if you go during peak hours, one of the valets who is definitely Spanish-speaking can talk to you in Korean (if you're Korean, of course) and he's super sweet. But he wasn't there that night so boo Mr. Coffee. You're too bitter for me.
I love pat bing soo and have yet to find a favorite place in Ktown. In Korea, you can get bingsoo at Burger Kings!
I have tried a few different versions of Mr. Coffee's bingsoos and I thought they were all just mediocre. They all looked pretty and they are large, but the ice is too chunky and there isn't enough mochi or pat (red beans) for me even though I request extra. I give up on Mr. Coffee and am going to try Ice Kiss and Nicole's. Parking can sometimes be a biatch, especially on weekend nights, and what is up with the nasty stale popcorn they serve.
Well.. A few Notes before you read:
- I just moved to LA
- Im Korean, this place is smack in the middle of K-Town
- I don't speak Hangul
- It was 9:30 pm on a Sunday night...
THE PARKING: Easy, found parking, no problem, no need to pay for valet, or anything, if not parking lot parking, park on the street, and use your "Caddilegs" to walk over to Mr. Coffee.
THE PLACE:
- I hear this place has been here for ages. However I was just introduced to it. OPEN till 4:AM! Amazing, right. There is a smoking section and a glass wall with a flat panel tv and comfier chairs for those that don't want to be around smokers/smoking. Chairs are more than cushy, and the tables are decent sized. (Sit Down first, don't walk up to the counter, its like a restaurant they bring you a menu, then you order the drinks of your choice.
- I was first shocked by the price of the drinks, I then realized about 1 hour into my coffee-drinking session that it was free refills, and I was wired by the end of my night. Ashtrays are provided, and smoke away! Since this is predominantly Korean Patronized, smokers are abundant.
- I don't speak korean, but I still ordered, and it was all good. If all else fails, just point, but the wait staff knew what i was saying so there was no communication barrier.
CONS: Sunday evening, there were only two employees working. One making the drinks, and one running tables. NO BELL "DING DONG" so, you have to do the, wait wait wait for service, or just raise your hand, they'll see you.
Overall 3 stars, because it is pricey, can be crowded, but overall, a great place to hangout late night, when you just want to relax, and/or chat it up with friends.
N8-
Mr. Coffee is an old donut joint that has been converted into a trendy Ktown cafe. The lighting is very magical and romantical while the large red plush chairs make it look dramatic. The one unique thing bout Mr. Coffee is that they have Bingsoo that comes with a milkshake on top! We tried Green Tea and Strawberry. It sounds strange, I know... but it was quite interesting.
They have also gotten on the yogurt bandwagon but it's really gross tasting. Their froyo tastes like sour cream with fruits. Also, we tried their desserts and the Tiramisu tasted completely stale and stick. Don't eat it.
I would only recommend the Bingsoo here with the Milk Shake topping. Otherwise, there are far better cafes within the 2 mile radius.
sorry, the shaved ice was a completely disappointment and overly expensive. 8 dollars for a small ass shaved ice with little topping? NO THANKS!
this is a staple of k-town hang outs. been around FOREVER.............
you go here to meet up and then go somewhere else.
if you don't want to run into someone you know, don't go here.
I go there for frozen yogurt..... I am just not a big fan to get into the line for Pinkberry... So I come here... No line and no wait...
The frozen yogurt is not bad but it has a slightly wierd after-taste though...
holy cow.... their shaved ice is good (but very sweet with tons of ice cream)

Kind of expensive, I think. The decor wasn't even that pretty. BUt I suppose it's an okay place to… Read more »
I'm not a shave ice purist by any means, so Mr. Coffee's version topped with green tea milkshake & Fruity Pebbles rocks my taste buds! It's a bit on the pricey side (around $8) but the serving is large enough for 2 or more people. I also loved the layer of fresh fruit at the bottom, though the dish as a whole could have used more red bean and smoother ice.
Service is very relaxed, but it definitely seems like a "chill with your friends for the entire afternoon" kind of place so I understand that they're not in a rush. I like their covered patio seating arrangement a lot -- it's outdoors, but not in the cheap patio furniture kind of way. They've actually got some comfy posh seats, and of course, it's Ktown so you get to smoke to your heart's delight.
I haven't tried any of their other snacks, but judging from the previous reviews, bingsoo is one of the few things they *do* get right. I will definitely return for more delicious shave ice. I just wish they had places like Mr. Coffee in San Francisco..
This place is only a good place to chill out at as it is very loungy and comfortable, but wait, be prepared to shovel out at least $5 per drink, regardless of what it is. It is very expensive. One hot tea is $6. Is it good? Well, it is satisfying, but not extraordinary. At least it comes in nice dishware and not a plastic cup. Service is poor as they never come back to see if you want a refill (because they don't want to spend money or time on giving you one...). So basically you get one serving of hot tea.
Its ok. But everthing on the menu is overpriced. OJ, lemonade 5.50?? A cup of cafe mocha 6.00? Lounge couches are dirty from the butt formations left on there. Valet parking too. Wth. I am just going for coffee. Jeez.. Get real.
This place is open almost 24 hours or 24 hours. Ive been going here for years, mostly for the dessert. Best shaved ice (green tea ice cream) is what i usually get. That or a good place to kill time and get lots of free refills. Regular coffee and certain teas are free to refill.
