I've been to culinary school.
Mr B's does not disappoint. Very affordable for the quality of food and service!
Had the BBQ shrimp, ya-ya gumbo, Grilled pork chop, and cheese cake. Everything was hot, deeeelish and cooked to perfection. a must if you staying in the french or BB street area
I had high hopes for this place from all the incredible Yelp reviews but left feeling disappointed and rather underwhelmed
Service:
I made reservations for 6.30p but turned up at 8p because my friend's meeting stretched out longer than she'd expected. I did not have a chance to call them to reschedule and was very pleasantly surprised that they managed to seat us immediately when we turned up so late (and the restaurant was packed). They were so accommodating; thank you!
Food:
- Fried Oysters on the Half Shell: I wish the batter was a little lighter so i could taste the oysters more? Unfortunately, they did not have a raw or grilled oyster option or I'd have ordered that instead
- Blue Crab Claws in garlic butter: My fave appetizer. Perfect blend of garlic and butter
- Duck Spring Rolls: My Least fave app. The taste was off; i think there was too much shiitake mushrooms and too little duck; and the duck itself was dry. We didn't even want to finish it
- Gumbo: Ehhh. Could have done without it. It was expensive and not as tasty as Acme, right across the street.
Bread Pudding: Lame
So basically...good service and good blue crab claws. Otherwise, i could have done without this meal. It was also expensive: $50++ per person (with a drink)...I could have had a better meal elsewhere. Sorry...i really tried to like you, Mr B's
If the idea of getting down and dirty with full jumbo shrimp drowning in a pool of buttery BBQ sauce is intriguing to you, then you have found your place. I have not tried all the Brennan's spots but this dish right here makes this restaurant a place that you must eat at while in the French Quarter. Ripping heads off succulent pieces of shrimp and sucking back the immensely flavorful sauce is one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had. It's a process, and it is very fun and unbelievable tasty.
The desserts here are top notch too. Bread pudding or bananas foster cake. Either way you will not be disappointed.
I guess you cant please everyone. This is a great place despite some of the reviews. Had the fried oysters with bacon hollandaise, unbelievable. Split the barbecue shrimp with my wife, fantastic. If that dosent make you happy, you are just not a happy person.
The BEST BBQ Shrimp ever! We stop every time we visit New Orleans.
Gumbo is indeed as good as people say.
I sat at the bar and ordered the seafood gumbo. It came with a loaf of French bread that was crisp on the outside and the soft on the inside. Gumbo was one of the best I've had.
I think I saw some complaints about service in the other comments. This was not the case for my visit. Bartender was friendly and service was quick.
They have a great bloody Mary. Way better than the one I had at Commander's Palace, for less than half the price. We shared a gumbo to start and our server brought our portion split in two! I had the Pasta Jambalaya and thought it was delicious. I was very satisfied with the service we got here and will surely be back.
After walking around the FQ for about an hour, hemming & hawing about where to eat, my wife and I sort of stumbled on Mr. B's Bistro and were sold on it after checking our iphone Yelp application and noticing the 4 star rating.
Well...we were thrilled with our dining experience! They told us it would be a 20-30 minute wait and we were seated in only 5 minutes. At first, the crowded & hectic feel and appearance of the dining room was a little daunting and overwhelming. We were seated on the edge right next to the kitchen and the window where the servers get the food. It felt like I would be bumped into by waiters and servers, though that never came close to happening. The only possible drawback to this place was the tight and crowded placement of the tables. This and the price (slightly high) would make me inclined to rate this restaurant 4.0 or 4.5 stars.
Now...I decided to round up to a 5 because the service and food were so good! There was a team waiter approach and every single server and waiter was extremely nice, friendly, and engaging. Our water was constantly kept full, our bread was refreshed twice almost instantly, and anything we needed was taken care of quickly and with pleasure.
My wife ordered the filet Mignon and found it cooked just right at medium rare. The accompanying green beans and roasted potatoes were very good as well. They were crisp and obviously very fresh. The real winner of the meal, for me, was the gumbo I ate as an appetizer. It had great flavor, spicy and hot. The sausage and shrimp were tender and just right. Further, my entre was outstanding! Garlic roast chicken with orzo, full garlic cloves, and sun dried tomatoes. This was an extremely good flavor combination with the garlic and tomatoes. The on-the-bone chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. Amazing flavor.
Drinks were a bit overpriced at $10.50 for pinot noir and $7 for Abita Amber Lager. The desert was good but nothing too special. Chocolate lava brownie with raspberry coolie sauce and ice cream.
Overall, this would definitely be a 4.5 out of 5 stars though the dining experience was so excellent considering the great service and the top notch food that I rounded up. If you can get in w/o too much of a wait, and don't necessarily want a quiet, candle lit meal, this is an excellent option.
Simply put, this was a very very good meal.
Our server was polite and welcoming. After some nice, soft bread, and choosing a sauvignon blanc, I started with a tasting of 3 "soups", which comprised seafood & chicken gumbos, and the day's special, squash. All were delicious, especially when perked up with a few drops of hot sauce. I decided I'd tackle the famous barbecue shrimp, and managed to devour the bowlful without so much as a splatter on the paper bib the waiter encouraged me to wear. If you check their website, you'll see why this is so delicious. The sauce is mostly melted butter. Dessert of pecan pie was equally rich and delicious, so I chose to finish the meal with limoncello, which was refreshing (and oddly, Danny DeVito-branded).
I'm sure there are many other incredible restaurants in this city, but half way into my 4-day trip, I can say this is my favourite so far.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the French Quarter. It is consistently rated one of the best places for BBQ shrimp and it is easy to see why. They are so incredibly tasty, the sauce is so complex and flavorful. We have not found anything better. It is not cheap, $30 for the BBQ shrimp in Jan. 2010 and you get about 10 or so pretty good sized shrimp. We always come in well over $100 for 2 people. But every time we are glad we came and conclude that the price and experience is worth it. The service is professional and helpful. They will even put on your bib for you. We enthusiastically will return. My mouth is watering as I write.
After following the chowhound trail, I found myself yearning to try this place on a Monday night. I was taken aback when my concierge said that there might be an hour wait. Irregardless, I walked down to Royal street to put my name down. To my surprise, the place was flooded with customers, but I was seated without a wait!
I ordered the Gumbo Yaya-so tasty! Great mix of spices with seafood and rice. I loved it!
I also ordered the BBQ shrimp. This was excellent. Sure, I had to put a bib on and get my hands all dirty, but the shrimp was worth it. When I heard that it was BBQ flavored, I imagined the BBQ sauce you'd taste from the supermarket (with a strong vinegar taste), but this sauce was just right.
Best shrimp and grits I ever had! I had read reviews before going and some were negative. Decided to try anyway and glad I did. The wait staff was wonderful and so was our dinner. Wine list is somewhat limited but had a glass of viognier with dinner. Yum! They're a little overpriced but I would go there again
Quite possibly the most overrated place in New Orleans. Went there only once, and at this point, I can't remember what we ordered...but I can certainly recall our resolve right after the meal to never return. High price to pay for such mediocre food.
After much hemming and hawing about whether to hit up Mr. B's or Pascal's Manale for barbequed shrimp, we decided to go with the better-reviewed and geographically convenient option. We weren't sorry.
We showed up at Mr. B's right as they opened for lunch and were seated immediately. The ambience is formal but friendly, just as a name like "Mr. B's Bistro" might suggest. The service was nice, and the meal passed pleasantly.
The prices weren't generally cheap, but the $1.50 Bloody Marys were a steal. These were quality cocktails, booze, heart, and zip, complete with celery stirs and even some string beans thrown in to soak up the spice.
The food was hit-or-miss, but the barbecue shrimp wasn't the only thing Mr. B's had to offer. Lunch kicked off with a yummy flaky white baguette in a paper bag. We ordered seafood gumbo, catfish fingers, and duck springrolls as appetizers. The catfish fingers, deep-fried and served with tomato tartar sauce, were tasty and pleasantly soft. The gumbo was decent, well-seasoned but balanced, with plenty of rice. Surprisingly, the springrolls, a sort of Asian fusion outlier on the menu, were the best of the appetizers. They came stuffed with duck confit, shiitake mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese, along with a sweet ginger-garlic sauce for dipping. The duck was juicy, the texture was great, and all the flavors came together just right.
I was not about to leave this place without ordering the much-touted barbequed shrimp, so I donned the bib and had myself a messy, delicious lunch. Our waitress advised us to discard the heads, but what sort of cut-rate Asian would I be if I didn't fill them with that marvelous peppery butter sauce and suck away? The dish was incredibly messy, and my hands smelled for the better part of the day, but it was worth it. That broth - leave your French bread to soak for a while and see where it takes you when you take a bite.
Other entrees on the table were the catfish meuniere and the bistro bacon burger. The catfish was pretty great, if a tad sweet with its (yummy) pecan crust and its (yummy) side of sweet potato mash. The bacon burger was a flop. The whole thing was poorly integrated, with a dry beef patty and bacon that left a harsh smoky aftertaste. Messing up bacon, tisk tisk.
I wasn't really expecting anything special from the desserts, but they were fantastic. The banana chocolate ice cream showcased the best of both banana and chocolate along with a smooth lickable texture. The warm bread pudding with Irish whiskey sauce was heavenly - eggy and moist and irresistible, it gave Commander Palace's souffled version a run for its money.
Mr. B's was a great spot for lunch, and I think the overemphasis on the very deserving barbequed shrimp sells this place short. Yes, the barbequed shrimp was the best entree on the menu, but Mr. B's has other delights to offer. I enjoyed them, and I hope many others have occasion to as well.
One dish is all you need to know - bbq shrimp. Don't get anything else.
The bbq shrimp has this incredible Creole season that is truly finger licking good. I destroyed every head and sucked them dry. The sauce can be a little less sweet. The shrimp has enough natural sweetness, no sense to overpower it with sugar.
Bbq around here does not mean they are grilled on a 'bbq'. It has more to do with the sauce being derived from a bbq sauce. The shrimp is actually soaked in a good amount of sauce.
I ordered the Creole salad. Three large slices of tomatoes with a nice olive oil based dressing. The dressing is crafty. But for $9.95?
The waiter was nice enough to bring out the bottle when I inquire about the origin of their house cab. It is their own label. It was very good for a house wine. It is California but not a fruit bomb nor overly alcoholic.
It is a bit of a tourist trap but it is still a nice restaurant with nice ambiance and a very good bbq shrimp. Comes here if you are entertaining a client or have a GF that likes fancy places.
5 Bbq shrimp
4 Service
3 Value
Come for the Bbq shrimp or go down the street to Deanie's and get their version for $10.95!
the food is top notch..
i came here specifically for the bbq shrimp.. which was deliciously buttery and spicy.. the sauce was a perfect partner for the accompanying bread..
i also tried the 3 soups (soup of the day, seafood gumbo and gumbo yaya).. all were very flavorful.. but i prefer the gumbo yaya over the other two.
service was also great
Mr. B's was quite decent. I think, from reading the reviews, I should have gotten the BBQ shrimp. I foolishly got other things, some of which were great (duck spring rolls) and some of which could use improvement (trio of soups. )
Overall I thought it was a little pricy for what I got, but a decent place to go.
Excellent food, good service, great location.
My wife had shrimp and grits, I had the barbecued shrimp -- both were outstanding. The appetizers were good. The bread pudding was a tad dry in the city that is supposed to be the mother lode of bread pudding.
Mr. B came close to snagging the fifth star but the service could have been more attentive and the place is freezing - - in July in New Orleans. Wear long sleeves or bring a jacket.
I had seafood gumbo, barbeque shrimp, and the sorbet du jour. The wait staff were good. It's over-priced.
The gumbo: The waiters brought hot sauce "in case it wasn't hot enough" for me. Not only was it 0% spicy, it was probably 4% flavorful.
The barbeque shrimp: fun to eat (ripping the heads off!), and tasty. Also, you get to wear a bib. The waiter ties it on for you. When's the last time someone did that for you?
It was a strangely intimate interaction. It made me feel like we used to be lovers. If you are homophobic, I recommend that you avoid this dish. Otherwise, it's worth it!
Sorbet du jour: It was raspberry lime. Nice texture (you know how sorbets can get), but a little too sweet... the lime didn't come through. Still, I'd get that flavor again.
The atmosphere: Slightly bizarre. The waiters wear tuxedos. The night I was there, 15% of the customers were dressed up:- nice dresses, suits. 84% of the customers were dressed like crappy tourist yuppies (ugly golf shirts, melon colored capris, flip flops). 1% of the customers were Elvis impersonators.
I dined here for the first time with my Aunt and Uncle, and both of them had dined here several times before. They raised my expectations of the BBQ Shrimp dish to pretty high levels, maybe even to an unreasonable one at that. However, the BBQ Shrimp dish did not disappoint, its only downfall is the amount of work you need to put into getting a small amount of food. The smell alone quickly made me realize i was not given a large enough portion! Anyway, the rest of the meal was good, but nothing spectacular. In my mind, you come here for the BBQ Shrimp, and it is definitely worth trying.
My parents were in town on this Sunday night, and since there isn't much to work with on a Sunday night, we tried a Brennan's restaurant across the street from their hotel. We walked in an it was a cute place, buzzing with people. I was excited. For about a minute.
They squeezed us in a small table. 4 of us when it should have fit 2. We had about 3-4 servers ( I love team serving, I think all restaurants should go this route) but only one of them was pleasant. I wanted a picture of me,my husband, and my parents and our server told us she was the drink person. Great, take our picture and I will give you our drink order (I wish I said that). She took our picture and then left. 10 minutes, no drinks. Another server comes to take our drink order. I order a glass of Pinot Noir, my mother orders Chardonnay. About 5-7 minutes later, we get our wine (and the server leaves). My wine is in the same type of glass as my mothers, and its a glass that Chili's would have used. 14 dollars for this? Oh, and they poured my mother Sauv Blanc. We flagged someone down, and they said, "ready to order?". I said, "this isn't Chardonnay, can my mother please have a glass of Chardonnay?". A huff, and poof! Another disappearing act!
About 30 minutes into our stay here, and we're finally ordered. Our food eventually comes out... I had butternut squash risotto with a fig preserves glazed quail. Sounds awesome, right? Bland. I don't want to use salt when I'm at a nice restaurant. But there was no flavor to the risotto, and a mere brush of figs. I would have loved to tell our server this, but they appeared to leave the bill the next time I saw someone. My father had veal. He said it was awful. I don't even remember what my mother or husband had, as it was all nondescript and we were mad anyways from a complete lack of service.
Oh yeah! It was my birthday dinner in New Orleans too. I had a "Happy Birthday" banner across the table, and no other recognition from this restaurant. I don't want anyone to sing or anything, but a simple, Happy Birthday from my server would have been nice. I would have taken a smile and the right beverage as well.
I will never step into a Brennans anything again. I spoke to the manager about our service, and he didn't really seem to care.
Thank you for an overpriced, underseasoned meal. I'm going to Besh.
I'm such a planner when it comes to dining on vacation, so I was pretty nervous when a conference buddy suggested this place on a whim for lunch. And the French Quarter can be mighty disappointing with their tourist traps. I nervously wonder, what does Frommers say? Too late...we were already in the door.
Fortunately, I did have my travel guide stashed in my purse, so I whipped it out to see what they tried. I'm glad I did, because I would've never known to order the barbecue shrimp. It comes in this Cajun sauce with a little bit of spice - absolutely delicious. But wait, don't forget to tie on that bib! (Or have the waiter do it for you). Humiliating? A tad. Worthwhile? Absolutely. Probably the most delicious shrimp I have ever eaten, Cajun or not.
We split the duck spring rolls and catfish fingers for appetizers, which were also mighty tasty. But go here for the shrimp - it's fabulous.
I grew up in Louisiana and despite heading into the French Quarter frequently, never paid appropriate attention to this Brennan's outpost. I'll admit -- I took notice on an '07 trip back home since Mr. B is one of the many nicknames for our dog (AKA, The Baron).
We found ourselves there on the Sunday night before New Year's, when most places we wanted seemed closed. The wait in the bar - 45 minutes, but the Sazeracs were so fantastic that the time flew by. We can't really get them made properly at a restaurant outside of Louisiana (yet), so we savored the time.
For dinner, I ordered Mr. B'S Barbecued Shrimp. Nearly a month later, I think about his dish about every other day. So, so good. My fiance had a version of Trout Amandine. It was really good as well, but was overshadowed by my phenomenal shrimp.
The only miss was the pecan pie. The waiters (sidebar: FANTASTIC service) sold us on that over bread pudding, but it wasn't as strong as the entrees.
I loved my dinner so much, I've been trolling Ebay to pick up their hard-to-find cookbook. I'll be back there on my next trip.
Where the luncheon crowd is local business people.
Over many years of visiting New Orleans, Mr. B's is the only French Quarter restaurant local business people would regularly visit. And for good reason. Mr. B's is regional Creole cuisine, and has the best gumbo in New Orleans.
Mr. B's is owned by second-generation Brennan family. They serve some of the traditional items, like fried oysters, coconut beer battered shrimp, and bbq shrimp. But it's also the place for steaks, chops, and great fish. This is not the place to go to ask for etouffee or jambalaya. It's upscale Creole cooking, but still offering great gumbo to start.
The "family recipe" break pudding is to die for.
Great corner stone restaurant in NOLA. You won't get a bad meal. Service is fantastic.
Atmosphere sophisticated.
For me, however, there's a southern culture waitstaff phenomena that makes me uncomfortable.
I really enjoyed Mr. B's. The BBQ Shrimp were great, but so were the duck spring rolls. Awesome spot for a late lunch - sit at the bar, order some drinks, and munch on some really good food.
I was a little disappointed. I went here for their Sunday jazz brunch. The soft shell crab sliders were not very good. They had a VERY fishy flavor....not a normal flavor for soft shell crabs. My boyfriend had some sort of sausage hash. He liked it, but said it was nothing special. Overall, the jazzy atmosphere was great, but the food wasn't worth the price. If you like bread pudding you should order it for dessert; just beware, it's filled with raisins, so you better like raisins.
One of the best meals I've had in N.O.
The BBQ shrimp is the best shrimp I've ever had. Anywhere.
I'd give Mr. B's 5 stars if the service was better. Unfortunately, for a restaurant in Mr. B's price range it was slow & inattentive. Regardless, I will definitely dine here next time I'm in NOLA.
Mr. B's is YABR (yet another Brennan's restaurant), this one in the French Quarter, serving decent food that's their version of bistro cuisine. Which, in New Orleans, means butter, cream and big, big portions. Ah, tradition.
After a 5-day stretch of eating in some really great places (Luke, Herbsaint, Cochon, Lilette, Stella!), my culinary bar was set very high and the lunch results here were just so-so. The wait staff is attentive (a bit too much - I thought the waitress would propose adoption) and 'formal' (black jackets) and they certainly charm the patrons who want to be charmed.
We had jambalaya over spinach pasta that was un-finishable due to its enormous size. Personally, I want jambalaya with dirty rice, not in a soupy style. Pass on that one. The gumbo was dark & smoky, as it should be, with abundant oysters and shrimp. We liked it. The duck spring rolls were good, but I'd quibble over the amount of duck - I wanted more.
I can't recommend this place strongly, considering that you now have many other better options. However, if you really want to stick to the French Quarter, it's a decent choice.
I haven't been here since the storm, so I cannot testify to the current state of the restaurant. What I can say was Mr. B's was one of the handful of restaurants I visited when I decided that New Orleans has the best food in the entire country-- yes, and by a landslide.
BBQ shrimp here was life changing. Service is over the top impeccable. I wonder if this place remains as good as before. I hope so. What a gem.
Cheap drinks for lunch!!!
You might be skeptical because it could be another tourist trap restaurant in the Quarter. It is right across the street from the Monteleone which seems to have lots of conferences. But it is really good.
Excellent service.
Went with my folks the other day for lunch which seems a good value. Two good gumbos. A really good and interesting eggplant and oyster soup. Super interesting shrimp with fennel and pasta. Crab cakes excellent, amazing bbq shrimp. Pecan encrusted Catfish meuniere was good but not great. very good bread pudding.
$1.50 bloody marys for lunch!!!
Dined here alone a few nights ago at the bar, and everyone was nice and cheerful so it was engaging to dine even alone. I had a Kobe beef brisket (yes...Kobe beef as a brisket....) and it came with a mac n cheese. It was so insanely good! Highly recommended.
Mr. B's was just across from our hotel, and I went there first for lunch by myself. Yes, I wore the bib and got the barbequed shrimp. Others in the restaurant looked a bit askance at this woman in a bib, reading and moaning (quietly, I thought) in pleasure, licking sauce from her fingers, but, it was one of the best meals I've ever had! The next night, I brought my husband back to have the shrimp as an appetizer. I have to say my (lunchtime) service in the dining room was excellent, just attentive enough, while our service the next evening in the bar was not as good. Still, I"d go back in a heartbeat if I lived closer.
Mr. B's is definitely one of the better fine dining choices in New Orleans, but not the best. From the famous barbecue shrimp to the shrimp and grits that keep your stomach wanting more I know I will come back next time family and friends are staying in the french quarter on vacation. Service was great and the sazerac cocktail is a New Orleans delicacy everyone should try. The wine list was somewhat heavily from California which always disapoints me but I got over it and had a great time.
If your visiting and staying in the quarter this is a great choice that is likely blocks from your hotel.
If you live here and want a fun night in the quarter away from life as usual also check this place out!
I returned to Mr. B's for the first time since the storm.
They've removed all the great items from the menu.
No more rabbit. The okra gumbo is premade.
The menu is pretty sparce.
One thing that remained is the excellent service.
Bobby and Otis waited on us.
They're phenomenal! Phenomenal!
The service saved the experience.
Oh yeah, and EVERYTHING is over $30!
Are they out of their everlovin MINDS?!?!!
AND everyone is super casual.
It's very very unfortunate.
Surely not the caliber of what we experienced in years past.
Will I return to Mr. B's again?
Probably not.
Next time, we'll check out Bayona and GW Fins.
It's a shame.

One of my top 5 New Orleans restaurants, if not the first.
This is the only establishment in NOLA I… Read more »
For all the hype about this place, i was beyond disappointed. So disappointed that I joined Yelp to review it and review places that were great as an alternative. No really, it was that bad.
I felt compelled to write a review to encourage people to go elsewhere and enjoy all the other wonderful restaurants New Orleans has to offer. The service was the main turnoff. We had to wait, which was no big deal, however this is when things began to go sour. We attempted to order a drink at the bar. That took a while and when it did come, the bartender(s) were so disinterested and lazy they left other people's really gross food sitting in front of us for probably 10 minutes (huge piles of shrimp parts, napkins and just hordes of sauce covered stuff- gross). They weren't even busy. They spent most of the time complaining about other customers right in front of us with a bunch of other people's dirty plates and napkins PILED in front us. Then the wine comes and it's... TERRIBLE. I mean undrinkable and I ordered 14 dollar a glass wine. Not good.
We eventually get seated, the wait staff (2 people, mind you) both seem uninterested again. The waitress wouldn't even describe the specials. She told us she didn't know how much something cost at all, as there were no prices on one portion of the specials and she wouldn't describe them anyway, not something I'd want to order. Even if it was near Mardi Gras, I don't care, have some pride in your job!
Eventually the food comes- it was fine, just really overpriced for the level of service and compared to other similar type places around. I had to ask for a napkin 3 times (eating really messy BBQ'd shrimp with no napkin is no picnic). I had no water, never was asked if I wanted more to drink, nothing. A waitress from another section felt so bad for me with no napkin and all this mess that she brought wet napkins for us. She was sadly, not our waitress.
The worst part was all the shrimp carcasses and waste was left in front of us for at least 15 minutes and no one even would remove it. People just kept walking by and ignoring us. (AGAIN!!) It was awful, the service was the worst service I've had in years. For a meal of this price, I've never felt more let down than this. The only employees that cared was the hostess and the manager, but even he didn't offer to do anything or even intervene. He just told me he'd like us to come back and try again sometime.
No thanks, I'll take my 150 bucks to a place that has decent wine and a waiter that doesn't leave me swimming in dead shrimp. Pathetic. Truly awful. If i could take away stars, i would.
Dined here during a large conference so maybe the crowds were more than they are used to but my goodness, the service was slow and rushed if you know what I mean. We felt like a number. And the tables are crammed together. For the prices they charge ($30+ per entree) I'd expected more personal service but we felt like just another $ to them. The food was good, not great. I think there are much better places in the French Qtr. I would not return.
was in town for a wedding and this came highly recommended. Mr. B's didn't disappoint. we made reservations and showed up a few minutes early and were seated immediately. service was outstanding. we were a table of 6 and I believe everyone left satisfied. I ordered the BBQ shrimp and it was great. others ordered the filet mignon (excellent) and the nightly special (trout) great as well. we had 4 desserts between us - I would skip the bananas foster next time around but the profiteroles, bread pudding and white chocolate brownie were all great.
I recently had dinner here upon recommendation of a friend. I knew it was one of many Brennan restaurants in NOLA so we gave it a try.
I ordered their specialty BBQ Shrimp which was really good and I was glad I wore the dorky bib because my blouse would have been ruined.
My bf ordered the Crayfish Ravioli which was good but he said my dinner was much better.
My only complaint is that the food is not spicy enough even when I asked to have it kicked up a bit. I wanted REAL Cajun not tourist Cajun.
Mr. B's is excellent! The food is outstanding. I would have to say that this is one of the rare times that I was much more impressed by the entrees than I was by appetizers or dessert . . . which, if they can't be equal, is a good thing to my mind. The atmosphere is elegant and with an 'old'/'established' feel - dark woods and subdued lighting, crisp white table clothes, and tuxedo'd waiters. Speaking of the waiters, these were possibly some of the best staff I came across in this trip to New Orleans; they were very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, and had impeccable timing with questions and serving the various courses without ever making us feel crowded/rushed. And although warm and friendly, they serve you with a type of formality that feels natural, never forced. Despite the elegant feel, Mr. B's warmly welcomes everyone, regardless of whether they are dressed to the nines or drift in casual clothes straight from a long day of sightseeing.
As an aside, I was here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I have heard that being there for brunch is even better.
