Review from Clifford Y.
Garden Grove, CA
I ordered the #1 which had slices of meat in a baguette. The meats were very thinly sliced and flavorful, and the bread was crunchy and delicious as well. Unfortunately, the sammie only had mayo and shredded carrots in it, nothing else. I wasn't sure if they messed up my sandwich or not, but I expected to see the usual components of a baguette sandwich. Because of this, I didn't find the samwich too enjoyable. Maybe I'll try ordering a different one next time.
I also ordered the iced coffee and it was pretty much the strongest iced coffee I've ever had. I usually drink my regular coffee black, but I scrunched my face when I first took a sip of this. I let it sit for about half an hour or more, and once the ice diluted, the coffee was a bit more enjoyable. I guess if super strong coffee floats your boat, let Mr. Baguette keep you afloat.
I really liked the fact that all the servers here were friendly and sweet, even when their English was a bit limited. There's even a sign that says something like if you don't like the service, contact the shift supervisor. I think the Americanized brand name/logo, large open area, cleanliness, and friendly service here is what's comparable to Lee's. I came by here for lunch during a weekday, and they weren't too busy.
Cliff Notes: Super strong iced coffee. -

Ohhhh boyyyyy! When I say I love Mr. Baguette, I LOVE love this place!
Been coming here for sandwiches, croissants, savory pies and drinks for years! They have never let us down once (okay, once we got 2 day old croissants but they were kind to refund us our money) and you can expect to get probably the best banh mi in the SGV!
There's a reason why the Special banh mi is numbered 1 on the menu...it's because it is seriously, THE BEST! I love that the meats inside are always flavorful and savory! The bread is also always crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside...a heavenly pairing with their meats. I also love that they don't skimp on the spreads, love love love the pate and the butter!
If you want hella fresh bread, try going when they get it right out the oven...like mornings and early afternoons! And at about $2.50 a pop, how could you resist this melt in your mouth goodness!Listed in: Oh, you fancy, huh?

Review from Jason A.
Mr. B is another great option for V-sando's in the SGV. Their bread seems a little "crustier"... so be careful when biting down, b/c the crust pieces may poke your mouth. This is not necessarily a bad thing... it's just their bread is like that. Their ice coffee is FREAKING POTENT though. It's seriously the strongest, thickest stuff on the planet. You definitely get your money's worth... I usually get a cup of water with the coffee, then dilute it and get about 3 cups of ice coffee out of the one. haha! but seriously... get the water. At the very least, use it as a chaser after you drink the sludge.

This place is still good but I had a gripe about their Vietnamese coffee. It's too strong. In my opinion, Lee's Coffee (from Lee's Sandwiches) is better because it's the perfect balance of coffee, cream, and sugar.
It could have been a hit or miss but I still like this place enough to come back for their delicious sandwiches!Listed in: Om-nom-nom-nom..

The fresh baguettes are wonderful here and you can't beat their 99 cent price. I used a couple baguettes for a strata I made and the dish came out wonderful, partially due to the tasty baguettes.

Review from Kathy W.
Came here to purchase the plain baguettes for $0.99 each. The baguettes are soo good when they are fresh that I can easily eat the whole baguette by myself. The sandwiches are a bit better than Lee's because they don't get too hard. The prices are a bit higher than Lee's. There is a private parking lot which is convenient. The cashiers don't speak very good English so bear with them. Overall, great places to pick up fresh baguettes for your curry party!

El Monte, CA
This is the best banh mi restaurant ever, the food is delicious, the service was really good, their coffee is excellent. My favorite item is the #1 (special) with a ice milk coffee. My sister always gets the saigon and a boba thai tea and she thinks it is amazing. You can really taste the thai tea, it's real quality stuff. Most importantly, I service there is quick and nice, the boy who does the pick up and coffee is really nice and polite and not to mention kind of cute haha and he does have nice muscular arms, but anyways this is a really good banh mi restaurant!

This is my family's go-to place for banh mi, other than our own home. Service is pretty apathetic. If you go here early in the morning, it's all Vietnamese men talking. It's awkward, especially if you understand them and they don't think you understand them. Enough said.
I was pretty surprised to find that you need to pack your own veggies in your sandwich now. However, some people like it better, since they can put as much as they wish.
The bread at Mr. Baguette is much better than Lee's in my opinion. Lee's bread is usually hard and cold when I get it, but my bread from Mr. Baguette is always warm and crispy.
Sandwiches used to be better, but it seems like they put little to no pate and that mayo like spread on it now. The sandwiches taste drier because of this.
You used to be so much better to me, Mr. Baguette. What happened?
I still love you though. Love you way more than Lee. -
Review from Sherry V.
I love Mr. Baguette. I always get the #1 and an iced coffee. Their iced coffee tastes legit, very strong and rich flavor. It's not overly sweet but just right. Their baguette bread is unique and chewy and not overly crunchy where you can cut up your mouth by eating it. I just wish they had pickled radishes... and more pate spread!! I always request that they put their pickled carrots (they call it salad) inside my sandwich because it's just easier. And I'd prefer to have my cilantro already in the sandwich instead of me having to add it in. Otherwise, solid place and a quick cheap lunch!

I love this place. I would drive half an hour and straight pass Lee's sandwich just to have their sandwiches. The baguette are amazing! Although I am not a fan of the way they have the pre-package carats now. It tastes a bit funky and way to salty. The staffs are so much nicer there than Lee's too.

Monrovia, CA
We come here specifically to get the Sesame meatball banh mi + iced milk coffee... just coz my family is a picky eater... and at the same time, we've never seen any other location sell meatball. We don't care much about the radish or cucumber coz as I've said... "picky eater". Family likes it just the baguette n meatballs. Although, for me, I like the pickled carrots, cilantro & jalapeno... and I also don't mind self-serve so I can get as much as I want.
Serving the veggies separately is a plus = coz you can add it when you want, IF you want. For leftovers, we can easily toast the banh mi without the veggies and just add it after... which is better as the veggies are cold.
Freshly baked baguette = Crispy crunchy on the outside, soft and tasty on the inside
Meatballs = soo good!
Service = friendly + average waiting period -
Review from Jean L.
I used to eat the chicken sandwich here every day, but their bread has gotten a little too hard to chew. I like the elongated form but I don't like that it is not as soft as other places. I also wish they put more of the radishes and carrots in there as well.
Other than that it's a cute place to go to. -
Review from Malisa C.
Upland, CA
Definately the best bread for banh mi in the SGV- if you like a classic, crunchy on the outside baguette. A bit expensive, but now they have the smaller $2.20 versions of the sandwiches... Just don't forget to grab your own cilantro/jalapeno's or you're out of luck!
NOT the place to go if you're in a hurry- I always end up waiting way longer here to pick up food than any of the other places down Valley! -

wow.
no radish or cucumber.
and cilantro and jalapenos are self serve.
so the bahnmi comes with carrots, pate, and meat on super crunchy baguette that tears up the roof of your mouth.
their milk ice coffee is good. it's not that strong and it has a lot of creaminess.
i won't be back! -

This use to be one of my favorite sandwich places..but sadly the food has gone DOWN HILL.. including the customer service.
Service: Terrible. There's 2 types of chicken sandwiches. Ones shredded and ones grilled. When I ordered I only said chicken..my mistake..so after the order I asked the lady to confirm which sandwich she put in my order..instantly she started scolding me for not specifying which one I wanted! Seriously?!..isn't that YOUR JOB to confirm with me?!!
Food: Normally these sandwiches come with pickled carrots, radish, cilantro, and chili..a lovely combo..but this time all they gave use were carrots that tasted old..like they've been fermented with alcohol! I took one bite and I had to spit it out. It was disgusting...oh and by the way they also give less meat..don't think I didn't notice!
I'm definitely never coming back here again..I'm going next door to Lees! -

Given a choice, always choose the sesame baguette. It enhances the flavor every time.
My favorite: #6.
I've tried other Vietnamese sandwich places but this one is my favorite. -
Review from Stan L.
although they don't have radish or cucumber... the sandwiches are still pretty solid..
the bread is fresh and crusty.. the meat is pretty damn solid too..
my only complaint is that their coffee has too much condensed milk..
overall.. this ain't a bad place to have banh mi... it's quick and cheap.. -

What's up with the high prices? It's a freakin' banh mi.
Even worse, I have to bag my own veggies?

Love this place. Great sandwiches. Just don't try any meat that you're not normally comfortable eating.
I'm also a fan of being able to order breakfast sandwiches anytime. Yumm
They have free wifi but no plugs? Guess I will just have to be content with eating here and not studying here -
Review from Christopher W.
Los Angeles, CA
I came by here on an errand for Breakfast. and I saw everyone had an iced coffee so I had to check it out... it's really good and tastes fantastic...though I will say it has a lot of ice in it; I think it balances the strength of the espresso shot out. There's a hint on something in it to besides the milk or whatever that I can't distringuish- similar to hazelnut or an almond flavoring...whatever it's one of the best iced coffee's I've had in a while
I also ordered a special #1, which was great, good bread and ingredients were balanced well inside.
Overall the place is fast, convinient and great for bahn mi? I think that's what their called. I like this place and Bahn Mi Che Cali too, There's also a Mr. Baguette that just opened on Atlantic South of Garvey by the new LA fitness if your closer to the west side of east LA. -

Huntington Park, CA
This little spot is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. They will offer suggestions if you've never been. I had the chicken fajita sandwich and it was very tasty. The chicken was grilled to perfection and the veggies were crispy and delicious. There was a type of mayo sauce with a seasoning in it that made the chicken even more flavorful. It's best to eat your baguette sandwich quickly because this particular flavor gets soggy. For dessert, I had the flan and it was surprisingly good.
I have been here twice for the same baguette sandwich and I will definitely come back. -

Another bomb place in the city of Rosemead, Southern California. Although there are TONS of Vietnamese sandwhich places in this general area, Mr. Baguette has always been a favorite of mine since they opened.
Not only is the location easily accessible, but there is sufficient parking as well compared to some of the other places.
Service is friendly and welcoming. The interior is clean and modern.
Prices are awesome, especially compared to Vegas. Although Vegas has a lot less competition which may explain a slightly higher price (which is ok).
The bread is freshly baked in house everyday, which makes the sandwiches taste so much more delicious. They also serve a variety of other delicious items such as croissant sandwiches.
My definite favorite here though has to be the Vietnamese coffee, it's strong and has a nice aroma. If you like strong coffee then this is the place to go, the amount of coffee they give you is also good. It's not 75% ice and 25% coffee.
Mr. Baguette is so great I vow never to give it up, never let it down, never turn around and desert it. Never going to say good bye and never going to tell a lie... -
Review from David W.
The bread here is so crispy and delicious, but the sandwiches are so overpriced and small. It makes for a great snack though . If it were a bit cheaper, I would frequent this shop more.

5 dollars for a sandwich and drink?! AWESOME!
I only go to Mr. Baguette during lunch time. And actually, I think it tastes better for lunch. You can probably see the difference because there are not that many people in the evening. Other than that, I would order the chicken sandwich. The bread is crispy, hot and the chicken is just right. Also, I always get the Thai tea with my sandwich. It is good and the boba are very soft! The special offer is only valid Monday through Thursday by the way. -
Review from Tony D.
Pretty good place, conveniently located, and nice prices.
Food: I like their breakfast egg ham sandwich here, I usually get it on the mornings where I have a long day of studying ahead of me. It's a great sandwich deal with 3 eggs, ham, and pate on the inside of a baguette. In addition, I like their smoothies; the avocado smoothies here taste pretty genuine compared to many other places I've been to that use powdered mixes instead.
Service: There are a couple of registers so the ordering is pretty quick. When I go there, the wait time for my food is no more than 5 minutes and that's what I call service. The people who are hired at Mr Baguette are genuinely nice as well, not just putting up a front because they are at work.
Environment: Though not exactly a place to have a long intimate dinner at, the place does provide with a very spacious front section and a nice outdoor seating for quick lunches or coffee breaks. It's a very conversation-promoting environment.
Overall: 4/5
Not really going to give it a 5 just yet, because I still believe there MAY be better places out there. However, in terms of experiences this place is definitely one of the top on my list for Vietnamese Sandwiches. Their menu is ridiculously varied and their food is very flavorful. Big recommendation to anyone who wants to try out a new place. -

I've eaten here since they opened. I remember when there'd be a line to get your food because it was so new and popular. Correct me if I'm wrong but they changed the style of baguette in this area from the soft chewy form to the crisp more elongated form.
Anyways..today, it's not what it used to be. I got the banh mi special, but my baguette was over baked, so it was a little tough to chew. Like before, their filling isn't plentiful, but just okay. They still package the sour carrots separately, but it's all orange now.(no white =( ). I also got an iced coffee because it's only $1 with my meal. It was definitely strong, but didn't taste 100% fresh. Good and bad...
The parking seems okay, but a lot of compact spaces. The patio area seems nice, but most purple smoke there. There's a tv that plays american tv, so I personally like that, but it can get noisy if there's a lot of people. -
Review from Joseph S.
Eh. I pick Lee's over Mr. Baguette. Mr B's bread was kinda tough, the pate was stingy, and I wasn't feelin the DIY nature of the pickled vegetables. Lee would never do that to me.

Mr. Baguette is the Vietnamese Pillsbury Dough Boy.
He is polished, clean, and ready at your service. I like Mr. Baguette because it's CLEAN, and I'm actually willing to eat a Vietnamese baguette/sandwich from this place.
The meat tastes higher quality than most banh mi places, and the pickled veggies taste really fresh as well. The bread tastes like its baked with love, and has just enough crunch but isn't rock hard. The grilled beef is tender, soft, and well-seasoned and isn't greasy or heavy. The chicken is moist and tender, and I like the extra pepper on top.
I like this place because it's not threatening... it's a clean environment and they don't automatically put foreign ingredients like duck paste into your sandwich. And of course, Mr. Baguette is super cute. -

After discussing the pros and cons of the Nom-Nom truck, we had the desire to go on a banh mi run at the local competitors, Mr. Baguette and Lee's Sandwiches, which are across the street from each other. Mr. Baguette won hands down based upon the quality of the bread, which was crisp and flaky like french bread should be. Mr. Baguette allows you to insert your own condiments, so you control how much cilantro and jalapenos go into your sandwich. The pickled carrots and radishes come in a little package, which seemed odd at first, but once you get it in the sandwich, tastes just as good as anywhere else and is probably cleaner/fresher in the little pouch.
Next time I have a craving, I'll definitely be back. Also, the cashier was really helpful and patient, as we were somewhat indecisive once we got to the counter and she made some suggestions in terms of which ones were the most popular. Mr. C is a fan of Mr. Baguette. -
Review from Mon R.
They have great breakfast and lunch options here. Fresh baguettes are made daily and their pate/egg and croissants aren't too bad either.
Ordering their iced coffee or avocado shakes can easily become a morning addiction.
Since orders are made fresh, there is a bit of a wait time and orders aren't necessarily in sequence.
The baguettes here are fresher and tastier than Lee's Sandwiches.
I do caution that during their slower hours their items don't seem as fresh. -
Review from Susan P.
This is about as authentic a Vietnamese sammich place as a Pizza Hut pizza is Italian. However, that being said, I am a HUGE fan. They always have fresh bread and are the ONLY Vietnamese sandwich place that does not make me feel ashamed of myself. Why? Because they don't use cucumber or cilantro in their sammiches!!
In a lot of ways, this place is like a better Lee's. It's very clean tasting, and very appealing to non- Vietnamese Connoisseurs. It's fresher than Lee's, and from what I remember, cheaper too!
Their clam chowder is nice and thick and comes with fresh croutons. It may not be heaven, but fresh garlic croutons which have soaked in clam chowder are most certainly out of this world. If it's raining out, you'd better be getting the clam chowder.
I don't rec their $1 drink specials, but that might just be me. My boba milk tea tasted like condensed milk diluted with diluted tea. I'm a huge tea person, so it was too milky and sweet for my tastes.
If you want the authentic experience, go somewhere else. If you want a good sammich give Mr. Baguette a try.
Oh beware!!! Mr. Baguette does roof of mouth peel like Quiznos! -

#2 of 3 of the Bahn Mi Sandwich Tasting Tour
A couple of fooding friends and I decided to compare a few of the Bahn Mi Sandwich places along Valley Blvd, so here's what we split/tried:
THE ORDER:
- #61 Grilled Pork with sesame bun ($3.95)
THE YUMMY:
- perfectly grilled and flavorful.
- perfectly pickled daikon, carrot, cilantro and green chili peppers, BUT they were NOT on the sandwich and were given out in small plastic sandwich bags? what gives? No hand sanitizers, etc so I really didn't want to handle the veggies myself to put them on my sandwich. (Extra baggie was another 25 cents I believe)
- loved that the green chilli peppers still were fleshy and still had the seeds on them.
Oh my word..my mouth is still burning for you! Mr. Baguette is so far our favorite of the taste testing tour.
Great service as all the ladies chatted us up while taking our order, and even suggested to bring cups of ice water for us. Great outdoor patio but I prefer sitting inside away from the cigarette smoke. Fast service and they even remembered to cut up the sandwiches since we girls were sharing.
Yes, Mr. Baguette is my favorite!!Listed in: In the SGV - Asian ONLY, Gimmee Bahn Mi's

I just wanted to write an update because they have changed. I had it a couple days ago and i was kind of disappointing. Now they have factory packed pickled carrots...JUST carrots and maybe two julienne slices of the pickled daikon...UNACCEPTABLE! They also skimp on the pate as well, and i LOVE pate. Although, their bread is still pretty awesome. But now i feel like i have to find another viet sammich spot.

Best Vietnamese sandwiches, hands down!
Can't stress enough how flavorful the bread is. No other sandwich places can beat $3.55 for a Special #2 w/ sesame.
The avocado smoothie is also a must-try.
The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 5-star is the drinks--from iced coffee to Thai tea and Boba milk tea, they're all over-sweetened and overpriced. -

They sale vegetarian ham sandwiches. I ordered one without mayo and cheese. $5.
...at the present... I am waiting to get sick. This happened once before at that other Vietnamese sandwich joint called Lee's. If I do get ill - you guys will hear about it. If and when that time comes, I will complete this review and swear off shops of this type.
Until then... My sandwich was just ok. The faux meat taste like faux meat. I only knew it was ham because it said so on the menu.

So stop one on the Banh Mi Crawl, and a great start!
Met some of the other Yelpers outside and was immediately reassured that losing my Banh Mi virginity would not be remotely traumatic!
Once we were all inside, I got the advice of Al 'Stealth' M on what was good and he recommended the Roast Beef with sesame and as I was famished, I tucked into some cow action and I must say, that beef injection was the perfect cure for my hunger pains.
The meat was medium rare, served with fresh veggies in a perfect sesame roll, and came with a pickle and little pepper.
I also got to sample some of the meatloaf and the saigon pork sandwiches, and while they were good, nothing could top the RB!
Cheers to Shauna D for organizing and Cheers to Al M for taking me under his wing, which was nice!Listed in: Banh Mi Blow Out!

Review from Ben F.
Los Angeles, CA
I felt like eating a sandwich today, but I did not want no $5.00 foot long. Who else is tired of seeing those Subway commercials? I certainly am, so annoying.
I decided to drive 20 miles East to Mr. Baguette. My only experience with Mr. Baguette prior to coming here today was with my cousin. I watched him order and leave with a sandwich. So I had to come back this time on my own, to see what this place is all about.
What usually is a 15 minute trip, turned into a 25 minute one. Why the hell is there so much traffic on the 10 East! Incoming Asians from LAX airport probably as the SGV area is heavily populated with Asians. I finally exit but there was still heavy traffic on the local streets. Valley Blvd, probably one of the most busiest streets in the SGV area.
Located on a corner is Mr. Baguette. Abundant parking in the parking lot. Upon walking in, you will see that this place is huge! I mean there is so much room here, you would think is all this space really necessary? A couple of tables are set up with basket looking chairs, if you wish to eat here. The place is very clean, all workers have heavy heavy accents.
The whole menu is pretty cheap in terms of sandwiches. Very inexpensive to eat here. I ordered 2 Meatball sandwiches, and 1 Grilled Beef sandwich.
The Meatball sandwiches were $3.00 each and it was way longer then a foot long. The meatball sandwiches were not what I pictured it to be. I had a imprinted image of Subways meatball sandwich. When I opened it up, I did not see any meatballs. The meatballs looked like a pinkish paste form of meatballs. No idea where the pink came from either. Peas, chili peppers, were also included in the sandwich. Carrots and radish were separated in a plastic bag. The baguette was fresh. The sandwich was okay I guess.
The Grilled Beef sandwich costs a little more, around $6.00. I received it in a plastic container, cut into halves. Now this sandwich was better in my opinion than the Meatball sandwich. I loved the crunchiness of the baguette. The grilled beef sandwich also included semi grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and a spread of mayo. On the side, was a pickle, pepperchini, and a packet of mustard.
Definitely will be back when in beast mode with a depleted wallet!
