Being new to NYC (two years ago), I was eager to find a great massage therepist I could seek on a regular basis. After reading great reviews on Mr. and Mrs. Shelley, I booked Deep Tissue Massage through Lifebooker. I had high expectations.
Mr. Shelley, as stated in the reviews, was very friendly and easy going. He took around five minutes to discuss the areas that needed work. He took another five to have me fill out a new customer form. Little did I know that the time would be taken out of the 60 minutes I had paid for. I came in at 1:15, and left at 2:15. Business is business, but it doesn't feel good to have my services timed exactly to the second. I only realized then that my previous spas at other cities had always gone extra on their promised time. They would also give a head massage that was not included in the package. It made me appreciate the services I've received in the past.
Mr. Shelley's techiniques were great, but it certainly wasn't the best I've had. I also asked to focus on my inner calves, but I don't think my request was met. If you book through Lifebooker, Mr. Shelley's is worth the visit. However, it didn't quite do it for me.Listed in: Beauty: Everything Related…

I finally found a regular masseuse in the city! I have heard great things about these guys, but you have to stop in to really see for yourself.
Chris (Mr. S) is very good and such a nice guy to talk to! Firstly, he wants to make sure he understands your goals/problem areas and areas to focus on before he gets started, which is the first time any massage therapist cared this much in NYC, and believe me, I am a massage brat/whore who has been to several.
So when you lie down on that heated table naked (if you're comfortable enough, undies get in the way), it's an hour of heaven because he's focusing on the areas you wanted him to. Mind reader!
I will be going back many times. I'm a fan of the Mr.'s Swedish massage (the best with the right amount of pressure), and I'm curious about the Thai massage, and I want to try the Mrs. as well. Go go go! -

I booked a $50 massage through Lifebooker - yay! They've got a deal going on until mid-February so book fast!
I went for a deep tissue so I went in knowing that I probably wouldn't leave feeling all blissed out but I was wrong. King (The Mrs.) managed to find a wonderful balance between the intensity and relaxation of a deep tissue massage. She has strong hands and tells you exactly how the massage will go. She checks in to make sure the pressure is exactly how you want it.
Highly recommended! -

Mr. Shelley is amazing, and if I could afford $50 a week I would go every week without fail.
He totally listens and is extremely friendly / warm. I had a back injury and have been dealing with the pain for about 3 months now, and within one session I felt immediately better. He is totally not judgemental and didn't even judge when I told him I was hungover!
Will definitely go back as soon as my bank account permits! -

I was in NYC last week and I woke up with a terrible back ache. After trying to work it out at the hotel gym I realized that I needed a really, really thorough massage.
So, I popped onto Yelp and found Mr. Shelley. I phoned Chris (aka Mr. Shelley) and he worked me into the schedule quickly. After spending several minutes talking with me and going over the paperwork I filled out, we got started.
I've been using massage therapy most of my life since I was born with a skeletal defect. So I know massage. I've had massages in many different countries and experienced many different techniques. And honestly? THIS WAS HANDS DOWN THE BEST MASSAGE I'VE EVER HAD!!
Chris knew immediately what I needed. He adjusted the pressure and movement along the way and worked through the majority of my soreness. I'd never felt so relieved and rejuvenated by a massage! In addition, as I left he told me about a special exercise for my neck (with two small balls) so I'm hoping to try that at home.
Note: this practice is part of a yoga studio. It's a quiet, clean and modest environment. It would not be suitable for a 'girls spa day' although Chris mentioned that he does massage in an art gallery which could be interesting.
So for those of you that live in NYC consider yourselves lucky to have a resource like Chris at your doorstep. For those of you that travel to NYC please bookmark this website....I know that I will be back to see Chris the next time I'm in town. The only problem is that he put my regular therapist to shame.... ;-) -

I could have swore I wrote a review for this already, what shock that I haven't and there is only 1 other on here. This place is awesome, and I'd say their specialty is Thai massage. Thai wat? Thai massage. It's like sports massage but much more thorough and pretzel-ish. Surprisingly I felt more pliable and relaxed with endorphins rushing faster than I ever did with a typical Shiatsu. So please do yourself a favor and try something new.
I love the story that Mr. Shelley left Lehman Brothers to follow his dream with his wife. Rather than making massage a taxing chore for which I feel guilty having subjected another human being to do onto me for pay, they seem to take a different approach and truly understand the holistic benefits of massage. It's like they are the messengers of massage, and considering their participation in socially admirable forums, they are quite noble--this is rare in the health/beauty sphere. Excellent personalized service, a soothing ambiance, and even some take-away lessons make for a fantastic experience. -

I have been going to Chris Shelley regularly for massage for over a year now and have never been disappointed. He is absolutely a pro in every respect, a nice person, and has reasonable prices especially if you book in packages. Forget those spas, this is where you will get what you need - a healing, helping pair of magical hands.

The massage I got from Mrs. Shelley (AKA King) was amazing. She has a great presence and the ability to distinguish what was going on with my body. Her thorough approach and great flow had me recommend my father who got 3 massages from her during his 10 day stay in NYC. She always concluded each massage with a variety a post massage stretches and exercises that would extend the benefits of each massage for days. I'd highly recommend them. Well at least Mrs. Shelley although my wife raves about Mr. Shelley. See them both!

Booked through Lifebooker and was pretty excited from all the reviews. Chris is super nice and as much as I want to give it 5 stars, honestly, it was just alright. The technique was temporarily good but I've definitely had better massages at discount places and spa places. Unfortunately, not that great.

excellent massage, excellent people.
i booked a massage here on lifebooker, and through some sort of glitch, they didn't know of the booking. after calling the number on their card, chris came within 2 hours and not only gave me an excellent massage, but also honored the special price i had booked on lifebooker.
the 60 min deep tissue massage i received was finally able to open up restriction i had in my hip after a bike wreck (i had tried 2 other massages elsewhere, to no avail).
very happy. -

I don't get a lot of massages, but I was super stressed from work and wanted to get the knots out of my neck and shoulders. I definitely went to the right place. Chris was great! Before the massage begins, he asks what you want out of the massage and what parts you want to concentrate on. He said that the neck and shoulders are his specialty and he wasn't lying. I didn't want the hour to end, but when it did my knots and tightness were gone and I had no pain the next day. I've already recommended Mr. & Mrs. Shelley to a few friends.
