12 reviews for Moustache
Since my initial review, I have been to Moustache at least half a dozen times and it still continues to impress. My favorite entree is now Ouzi, a flaky shell stuffed with chicken, peas, carrots, rice, onions, almonds, golden raisins, delicious exotic spices and the perfect amount of heat. I've tried nearly all of the appetizers and they're all wonderful. And the Turkish coffee and baklava (a bit denser than the Greek version) are both delicious.
One thing I love is the owner always comes around to greet his customers.

Middle Eastern food is back! Moustache has re-opened under completely new management as Marhaba! It is in the same location but rebranded as Marhaba. The food is a little different (the previous owner came from Jordan and the current owner comes from Egypt), but most diners will not notice the differences. It's still BYO and has nearly the same decor and hours.
I've eaten there several times over the past few months and is just as good. There are many tasty delights here, but don't miss the Zatar bread and Lebne!
Holy Shit! Don't cross the owner!
http://www.phillyburbs... A friend went by Friday night by chance and there was a sign on the door saying, "Closed because of death in the family" ...uhhh, not quite.
Too bad, I really liked this place.

Actually a 3.5, but we went up.
The smells of the place was awesome. The service was nice and prompt, and we filled up quickly.
We ordered dolmas, babaganoush, and the lamb pizza, with hot mint tea.
Dolmas: these were good. Tart, chewy, and with a side of a rich sesame sauce, surrounded by lettuce greens embellished by lemon, parsley, cumin, and oil.
Babaganoush: the softest we've ever had. We each received a fresh puff of pita which was amazing--crisp but chewy, the way it ought to be. Thin. The flavour of the dip was so good. I can't describe it. It was almost pillowy.
The pizza was good, but a little too clovey. Perfectly crisp with a chewiness. The cloves overpowered the lamb flavour a bit.
2 for lunch: $31 including tax and tip, and a take away box for half of the pizza.
We've heard great things about Moustache from friends, so on a beautiful February NJ day, a drive to Lambertville was just what the doctor ordered to enjoy some nice weather outdoors. After all, how many days near 60 degrees to you have in February?
Moustache is located in the location that used to house a Capa Pizza where we had pies on multiple occasions. Upon walking up, you could see that they did some work to the outside of the building, with some nice landscaping, and some paint work to the building. Moustache prides itself on Middle Eastern cuisine, and they seem to be doing it the right way!
Upon entering, this place did a complete 360 from the old Capa Pizza days. The interior was totally renovated and rearranged, with the old rotating pizza oven being removed, and the entire kitchen being moved from the front left hand side, to the rear right of the building where the bands used to play. The rustic concrete floor is still there, and the new tables are adorned by copper tops, and look very nice. Lanterns hang from the ceiling, and this really helps set the tone and ambiance for some good ethnic cuisine.
One of the first things that Zelda noticed was the sign behind the host stand that says "We proudly accept cash." Upon looking around, there were no Visa/MC stickers on the door, so I took a walk a few blocks to hit the ATM at the corner on Bridge Street.
Upon returning, I was greeted at the table by an order of hummus that looked absolutely gorgeous. A nice ring of hummus surrounded some chopped chick peas, served with a fresh pita, whole, in a basket. Upon picking up the pita, you could tell how thin and airy it was. You could tell that these were definitely homemade, and they were at the right side of the tasty scale. Awesome!! Upon tasting the hummus, this was delicious as well, and this coming from a guy who is not a big fan of chickpeas. The hummus had a nice tahini seasoning, and some other middle eastern seasonings, a tad of lemon juice, and it made for a gorgeous app!
I opted for the gyro, rotisserie broiled, sliced in nice chunks of fresh beef, and this too had a nice medley of Mediterranean spices. This was served with a nice sauce, tomato, and romaine lettuce. I could have ate 5 of these things they were so good, and by the far the best gyro I have eaten on the East Coast. This was awesome, and served in the same fresh, thin, homemade pita! YUM!
Zelda went with the falafel sandwich, served in yet another fresh baked pita with lettuce and tomato. Again, not being a huge fan of falafel, I was pleasantly surprised at the gorgeous aromatic taste of this dish. More chickpeas with nice spice and vegetables made this dish incredible, and it is something that I would have no problem eating.
Add a few Coke's to the tab, and we got in and out of there for around $22. For the quality of food, with the nice aromatics and spices that went into these dishes, this was an absolute bargain! I look forward to going back soon!

LUNCH REVIEW.
I didn't think there would be reviews for this place, so I didn't Yelp it beforehand... but I walked past it yesterday and figured I'd try it today... it is literally the closest eatery to our NJ office, okay... a close runner-up to the Inn at the Hawke across the street.
I ordered the homemade lentil soup, the lahambajin pitza, and a diet coke.
The lentil soup was good... it came with a lime wedge (of which the juice it produced added a unique twist to the lentil soup) and a thin dipping bread (no idea what it's called).
The lahambajin pitza (pizza) was quite good... never had a pizza quite like it. Ground lamb, onion, tomato, parsley & spices.
----
After taking my first bite from the fresh out of the oven, still steaming pizza... I was thinking "this is totally a min. 4 star review." However... not anymore.
$1.50 Diet Coke. Fountain-style (didn't come in a can/bottle). In 99.9% of all sit-down restaurants, fountain-style sodas should come with free refills. Standard Operating Practice for restaurants right? I can understand charging for actual cans/bottles of soda... but seriously? $1.50 for another "refill" of my diet coke... that came in a cup... half-full with ice? That, my friend... is unacceptable.
Plus, like J.P. stated, the service wasn't all that great... it was tolerable and probably wouldn't have gotten mentioned, if not for The Soda Incident.
ALSO note: Cash only establishment.
The food was actually quite decent/good... but I don't think I'd ever eat here again (unless it's take out and I can eliminate the 2 negatories mentioned above).
This was the best restaurant in the Lamertville / New Hope area when it was opened. Unfortunatey the owner 0f this restaurant turned out to be a worthless piece of human excrement .
Perhaps his partner will re-open when she recoves from the brutal attack. It has been closed for months now.
The article below appears in http://www.phillyburbs...
The accused, Khalid Altawarh, 37, was arrested traveling in the alleged victim's vehicle near Peddler's Village in Buckingham.
A New Hope man is in Bucks County Prison facing charges that he raped, robbed, beat and ultimately tried to kill a Plumstead woman at her home before stealing her vehicle and fleeing, police said.
What police described as a more than three-hour torture session only ended when the woman's friend stopped by her home to check on her when she did not arrive for work Friday morning.
The accused, Khalid Altawarh, 37, a restaurateur who goes by the alias Dave Shookby, was arrested traveling in the woman's vehicle a little before 1 p.m. near Peddler's Village in Buckingham.
"The brutality and violence this victim endured is mind-numbing," said Bucks County First Assistant District Attorney David W. Zellis. "Our community should be grateful that she had a friend who checked on her well-being and ultimately saved her life."
Altawarh, who lives on South Main Street, owned what authorities described as a shuttered Lambertville restaurant called Moustache. Charged with attempted homicide, rape, robbery and related offenses, he was sent to Bucks County Prison when he could not pay the 10 percent of $2 million bail set by on-call District Judge Robert E. Gaffney.
During his Friday night arraignment, a defiant Altawarh cursed at reporters and police and muttered insults. Considered a violent threat, Altawarh, his black hair pulled to a scraggly ponytail, was shackled at the wrists and ankles. These are serious charges," Altawarh moaned at one point. "I didn't kill anybody."
Court papers say Altawarh and the victim knew each other well. He arrived at her home around 6 a.m. and asked her for a ride to a bus station in Flemington.
She agreed, but Altawarh allegedly had other intentions. Court records said he waited for the woman to get dressed, then attacked.
During the assault, he raped her, beat her with a rock and attempted to tie her up with a jump rope, among other harrowing details, court papers said. He also held a knife to her throat and demanded money, telling her he would kill her, records said.
The woman took him to her safe and gave him cash. At one point she fled outside, but he ran her down and forcefully brought her back inside, said documents.
For much of the morning, Altawarh allegedly forced her to remain in the kitchen. Then there was a knock at the front door around 9:30 a.m. It was the woman's friend, visiting to see if she was all right. Altawarh answered the door, and when he did, the woman ran out of the house screaming, records said.
The woman's friend got her into his vehicle, drove from the scene and called 911. Altawarh fled in the victim's vehicle. A little more than three hours later, he was spotted driving in Buckingham and arrested.
This used to be Capa Pizza an Ice Cream and Pizza shop. We were pleasantly surprized when we found a middle eastern restaurant in its place. The menu is one long page with about 8 appetizers, 8 entrees, and a handful of sandwiches. All are reasonably priced at $5-$15 a piece. You can get shish-kabab, falafel, Piza (flat bread pizza), lentil soup, salads, Turkish coffee, baklava among a few other things. Names of items might not be traditional (american names roughly converted into middle eastern), but the spiciness of the food is certainly authentic.
You'll find a sparsely decorated relaxed atmosphere with tea candles placed on the tables after dark. Staff are mostly American and friendly. For you late night diners you'll appreciate they stay open until Midnight. Opening for lunch at 11am. A nice addition to Lambertville's already great selection of restaurants.
First off, I like the place and plan to return. Nice that it is open seven days for lunch. Service was friendly but a bit haphazard; not a big deal as this is not a fine-dining establishment. More of a cross beween a pizza parlor and a MiddleEast cafe. I had their signature lamb pizza which was quite good - spicey but no burn - thin crust. My wife had the kifka kebobs which they make with beef. Most places use a lamb-beef mix, but they were fine in any case. The falafel starter was OK, maybe a little bit dry. Pita bread was fine - hot from the pizza oven.
They have a limited selection of hot beverages, which is a shame. Turkish coffee but no American. Mint and hibiscus tea but nothing else. We tried the baklava - which our waiter said is made on premises - but it was not good. Maybe it was sitting out too long.
The room is cozy - a full front window with plenty of light; not that many tables -maybe seats 40 or so. A large group might have a problem getting tables together. The front door opens directly on to the seating area, not a problem most of the year but it could be uncomfortable on a really cold winter day - grab a table close to the pizza oven.
Driving in from out of town - this is at the far southern end of Union Street, across from Inn of the Hawke, there is a public parking lot on the right just past the restaurant.
The service wasn't that professional and the atmosphere was a bit... dank, but the food was fine. The small dishes of dips and salads were the best bet, with the falafel sandwich not really holding up well. The pita they serve with the meal is uninspired, but at least it's hot.
mannnnn. i LOVED this place once upon a time. i loved how it was BYO... how everything was made with real care and love and had that "homemade" taste. and the Babaganoush was to die for. the owner was great. so nice and friendly. i especially like his quote from the http://nj.com article i read:
"We don't have rules," he said. "We wait, we cook, we meet the customers."
by "meet", he must have meant, rape. and by "no rules", he must have meant the 3 hour rock tourture session of the woman he was just arrested for raping, beating and almost killing on May 10th.
restauranteur? no just your common, everyday rapist in a businessman's clothing. and 1 in 3 women will meet them, 1 in 10 men will too.

we went after reading heather lm's review and found the food was very good, the service fine and friendly, the atmosphere was great, i thought a hukkah pit was in order and a pile of pillows, wishful thinking i guess. best new lambertville pseudo urban funketeria. off the beaten dead horse track of lambertville/newhope, but just across from the inn of the hawk, another gem, it's byob, which is just fine with us. and it's open and serves until midnight. that's just cool. go. and bring your friends.
