I've been having a very difficult time finding a decent hairstyle that works with the brillo pad on my head - until Jen @ MB hooked me up.

Affordable pricing, comfortable atmosphere and (most importantly) a (babe of a) stylist who was talented, helpful and responsive.

i brought in a picture of me, with the haircut i once had that i wanted. and now it's gone.

i wanted jagged flippy layers and it's now completely smooth and cylindrical, sort of beatle-ish.

i kept saying "but it doesn't look like the pictures" and she kept cutting and then when it was blowdried it was clearly totally different from what we had discussed and what i had wanted.

then as it was clear that though calm i was annoyed, she said, "you direct me!" and it was like.... NO!  THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS... you're supposed to know....

it's a surprisingly conservative cut, for the place and location and whatnot.

as i look at my hair the next day, gooed up with junk and yet still cylindrical as all hell, i can only think of 2 possibilities: she saw the picture and didn't know HOW to do it, and so didn't, or she saw the picture and didn't WANT to do it, and so didn't.

So.
I'd been going to this other super high end (read: expen$$$$ive) NYC salon for several years now...and well, I wasn't satisfied any longer. So...I sorta "cheated" on them with Mousey Brown, on the recommendation of my good friend.

Do I regret my so-called "cheating"?

Nope. Not at all. Zero regrets.

My hair was, well, misshaped and just not what I wanted (who wants to look like a triangle head? Not me.), so I went to MB in an attempt to correct this error. I sat down with my stylist (Chris) who was so friendly and saw exactly what needed to be done to make my hair look better, and thus, make me feel better.

The prices are just right and the space is laid back and unpretentious.

And I couldn't be happier.

I just had a terrific experience at Mousey Brown.  Two days ago, I decided I was utterly sick of my uneven, boring bob that I've been sporting for about two years.  After doing some brisk Yelp research and narrowing it down to three possible salons, I called determined to book with whichever one could fit me in that night.  Happily, it was Mousey Brown.

Already impressed that they squeezed me in at such short notice, I was really happy with my entire time there.  The place itself is little and cute, with kitschy shabby chic gew-gaws (say that three times fast!) littered about.  The people hard at work were hip and friendly.  I got my locks lopped by Jenn, who chatted with me for a few minutes about what I wanted (I really didn't know, I just didn't want to feel like a nerd any more) and then went to work.  I was out within an hour but I didn't feel like she was rushing me out the door.

I wound up with a totally chic and wonderful shaggy short cut that is unlike anything I've ever had before. I love it.  And the thing that sealed the deal is that my cut was $55-- so, so much cheaper than so many of the salons I checked out in person in the past and on Yelp.

I will definitely return for another session with Jenn when this bad boy of a 'do needs some taming.

So it's taken me a year to write a review because I was so scarred from my experience at Mousy Brown.

Cut:
I went for a basic haircut with sideswept bangs... nothing too difficult as I've regularly cut my own bangs with much success.  Andrew and I talked about the length of the bangs and I said how much I liked it when they were long and almost in my eyes... he said he hated his long.

he then proceeded to hack my hair off completely and cut my bangs ABOVE MY EYEBROWS like, WAY above.  (it took about 2 months for them to grow in)

Color:
I went in requesting to be a natural looking redhead.  Andrew said he understood what I meant and we even looked at a color pallette together.

The color he put on my head was HIDEOUS.  thank goodness I went for a demipermanent color and not permanent.  My hair was dark brown/purple.  it was absolutely disgusting, but not wanting to cry at a hairdresser, I gathered my composure and left.  I called regarding the color a few days later and Andrew called me back a week after that saying he would fix it that weekend.

I called MB time and again to no success.  I haven't been back since and I recommend that NOONE GET THEIR COLOR DONE HERE.  These people are NOT COLORISTS.  They do not know what they're doing.

I now have an awesome salon, and am happily a redhead.

BE WARNED PEOPLE.  MB IS CHEAP FOR A REASON.

I had my hair trimmed at Mousey Brown last month on short notice and while I liked the styling I was given after the cut, the stylist simply cut off way more of my hair than I asked her too (about 4 inches vs. two).  I waited a few days and a few showers to make sure I wasn't just being paranoid, then emailed the owner of the salon to let her know what happened and to ask if anything could be done.

Amazingly, she offered me a full refund, a haircut done by her personally (which I didn't take her up on because my hair was already shorter than I wanted it!), and a free product.  I told her I wasn't sure that any product would help the cut, but she said she thought she had a "miracle" mousse that would help.  I was highly skeptical but tried it out - yes, it is a "miracle" mousse!  Totally calmed down my wavy hair and will help with the difficult layers until the cut grows out.

After reading the other reviews, I think the key to this salon is to request and only be seen by a good stylist - I haven't gone enough to tell you who the good ones are yet, but I plan to go back.

I used to go here to get my hair colored and for the most part they did a decent job at a very good price. I used to bleached my hair from my natural jet black to a platinum blonde for two years, and never had too much damage done at this or any other salon... until I came in to get my bi-monthly touch up one day under the hands of a new staff member (can't remember her name). The first visit I left with orange roots. I complained, came back for a second visit and then left the salon with crown of my hair fried off until about 3" long. I immediately went to another salon to get a haircut to make my hair look less weird and have been afraid to come back since.

This might have been a one off experience, since I hadn't had any problems until then. But that and the fact I've never really had a stellar cut/color from Mousey Brown either was enough to make me look elsewhere.

I've been to this hairdresser 2-3 times and she has given me decent cuts.  I went for a bang trim and I walked out looking like Jim Carey from Dumb and Dumber...they were awful and they took weeks to grow out.  whenever I woke in the morning...they stuck up straight.  The worst part was they charged me $15 for a bang trim and I even had a stylist there.  I've been to other places where they do it for free if you go there.  That was the last time I got my hair and bangs done there.  Trying Velvet Rose tomorrow...hope it goes well!

Such a quaint, adorable salon! Very personal and intricate, I've had Chris twice as my dresser, and I have very long hair, and he has both times managed to do exactly what I wanted with dye and cut and bangs. I highly recommend mousey brown, and chris in general. I created my yelp account purely to review mousey brown! i will be back!!

I had a cut and color here. i think my stylist's name is Melissa. She's really nice and took her time to give me suggestions regarding what color suit me best and what cut would accentuate my wavy hair. I'm always scared of having too much cut off, and she definitely kept it long and w/ good layers.
I will definitely keep coming here for a trim and touch ups.

Maybe I am a bit biased as Mousey Brown is located only a few blocks from my apartment, but I have to say that every time I go there for a trim I am very pleased.

As a dude with tightly curly hair, it has been difficult to find someone I could trust to give me a good cut. Rita is my new go-to woman. What a great person, reasonably priced ($55+tip), and a pretty cute place to boot (located right across the street from McCarren park).

I can't recommend enough!

I loathe the salon experience.  I strongly dislike having a strangers hands in my hair for 3 hours - cutting and fluffing and blowing and twisting and primping.  It makes me itchy.  And sweaty.  I just don't think my hair (or your hair for that matter) is a big enough deal to warrant dropping the cost of a plane ticket to be surrounded by black marble and pink neon for several valuable hours of my life.

Which brings me to Mousey Brown and, my hair doer, Lacy.  The place was quiet with totally understated decor.  Lacy (should be named Curt) was on time and, although a woman of few words, perfectly friendly.  She was extraordinarily fast but only because she's adroit and efficient.  I didn't feel at all like she was trying to rush me out of there.  Bottom line, I got a great basic wash and cut.  And in exactly 1/2 hour!

Let me start this by saying that as hairstylist, I haven't paid or gone outside of my circle of ultra talented haircutting pals in YEARS.  But everyone is away and I've been nickin' at it myself. Until I couldn't stand it anymore.  Until I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

I read some reviews on here, and cold called a lot of salons in the burg.

The most pleasant person I spoke to was the gentleman that answered the phone at Mousey Brown. I took the plunge, booking an appointment with RITA. She was nice enough to stay late for me.

I was so nervous I ate 7 sticks of gum and was second guessing my decision NOT to drink beforehand.

Without Need!

Rita was rad. She was just what I like in a hairdresser. She was down to earth. She was real. She was no bullshit. She gave me the best haircut I've had in YEARS. She turned my thin thin thin baby fine hair into something that made all my friends jealous.

See you soon Mousey Brown!

Came here to get my roots touched up.  I currently have platinum blonde hair and needed the roots to match.  Chris, who was lovely and sweet and clearly very skilled, unfortunately just couldn't do what I needed him to do.  He was so worried about my hair breaking and getting brittle that he used only 20 volume, so of course the hair didn't get light enough.  Rather than use a stronger bleach for the second process, he stuck with the 20 volume, insisting that anything stronger would ruin my hair.  I kept insisting that I did not care at all, that it was the color that matters, and it all my hair breaks off I don't care I'll just shave my head.  Because it is already very short.  Even tho I said this at least 10 times, he was far more concerned with the health and texture of the hair than with its appearance, and getting me to where it needed to be.  So, after a second process, and the roots were still far darker than the rest of the hair, I ask if he can do a third process.  Without one, I would have looked ridiculous - brassy orange roots, white ends.  So begrudgingly he does a 3rd process (again with the 20 volume), and the hair gets to where it is comfortably whitish blonde.  Still, far darker than the rest of my hair, sadly.  He really didn't listen to my needs, and stuck to what he thought was best, despite my very, very clear requests.

So, perhaps the philosophy of this salon is more geared toward the health and beauty of hair.  Which I guess makes sense, for a hair salon.  But if you're looking for something daring, edgy, and even dangerous (ooooh hair breakage - scary), I wouldn't go here.

After tip, the whole thing cost me $230.  Just for a root touch up with bleach.  No color on top, no cut, just roots - for that much money.  Really wasn't expecting that.  And then I had to go home and lighten the roots again myself the next day.  Not cool.

But the salon is pretty and chill and the people seem nice, I might go here for a basic cut.  But only if I was looking for something very basic.

And on a side note - my next colorist told me that my hair is actually in decent shape for being all bleached out, so Chris really didn't need to take it so easy with me.  He perhaps worries too much.

I have been bouncing all around NY trying to find a salon. It was getting so bad that I was getting my hair cut when I went home or to different cities because I could not find a stylist in NY!

This saturday I found Andrew! I came into Mousey for a bang trim. I had recently gotten my hair cut at home, and wasn't completely happy with my bangs, they were a little long and felt lopsided.

Andrew was great. He explained that even though they were cut straight that my hair has more lift on one side. So he 'evened' them out for me. After he was done and walked to the front, he made me come back saying I had him obsessed about it now, and he did one more quick little trick and they look awesome!

I will absolutely be back to see him for my next hair cut!

Really great cut - booked an appointment last minute and was very impressed.  Standard pricing for the quality/neighborhood, but the space is cozy and the music is good.  Less agoraphobic 'on display' feeling than I've had at Woodley and Bunny, without compromising the pleasant hipness of the male salon experience ;-)

I've been to salons in NY at both ends of the price spectrum and I got the best hair cut from Meredith at Mousey Brown. This place is unpretentious, inexpensive and I felt as though Meredith actually paid attention to what I had to say and really delivered. After a year's worth of mediocre hair cuts I've finally found a place I can come back to.

My curly/wavy hair is typically in a state of mayhem, so the right haircut can make all the difference.  Rita at Mousey Brown KNOWS how to cut curly hair.  I never thought side bangs were possible for someone with a semi-fro, but they are!

I walked out of here feeling great, and my wallet wasn't feeling too bad, either.  I found myself smiling at strangers and graciously allowing 15 people to cut me off at the entrance of the subway station.  Good hair can do that to you.

I found this place because there were so many good reviews for Andrew and the place actually had double digit haircuts. I couldn't get in to see Andrew at the time I wanted so I was put with Chris. This turned out to be a perfect match. He actually listens...and I mean not just hearing what you said and doing what he wants. Not to say that he won't offer his opinion, but if you want something a specific way, he'll make it happen. Last time I had made an appointment for 1/4 head highlight but he gave me 1/2 head at no extra charge because he thought I needed it. He's also always throwing in free samples of leave in conditioners or volumizers since I have fine hair.

Andrew is a godsend. Let's just get that out of the way right now.

I took away a star because I just wish the prices were a bit lower than they are, but I guess since it's worth every penny to come out feeling like a million bucks!

The staff is very friendly and professional. Everyone I see in there getting their hairs did always leave looking fabulous, so it's not just Andrew. Andrew in particular is not only a super talented stylist but just an all-around pleasant person to have cut your hair. If you get him started on a topic he's interested in he's very chatty, which helps make the time fly by if you're getting your hair dyed, etc.

I'll continue to save my pennies so I can keep going back for sure!!!

I really, really appreciate the fact that you can get a haircut for $55 here.   That is how much a haircut should cost!

I have been to Mousey Brown three times and I really want to like it, but something is just off about this place and I can't quite put my finger on it.   I've walked out of there with decent, yet slightly boring haircuts that I have just never been so excited about.  I also consider myself a fairly competent conversationalist, but I've had my hair cut by three different stylists who either never attempted small talk or seemed like they'd rather be somewhere else.  Is it too small or quiet in there?  Something is a just a little vibey.

i've been looking for a regular salon to frequent for... ever, and i finally found one!
small, cute decor, nice people, and charges just about the most i'd pay for a great haircut, which is what i got.

i went in to see rita for a straight-bangs cut and expressed my concerns about framing my face etc. she listened and talked me through the whole thing (but didn't chat, only hair-related conversation) and was really into giving me exactly what i was asking for.

highly recommend mousey brown, highly recommend rita!

I started going to Mousey Brown about a year ago because my former stylist/friend moved to London.  I was never a person who liked going to a big, fancy place because it just caused anxiety rather than relaxation.  I just wanted a salon where I could get a solid hair cut for under $60 and not have to worry about being cool.

Mousey Brown ended up being all of things I was looking for in a salon.  I've had about 6 haircuts and gone to 2 stylists. The last few times I have gone to Jenn and not only do I love the cuts she gives me, but I like hanging out and talking to her.  I'll be honest - I have nice hair that is pretty easy to style, but I think the key to remember is that at this salon they typically do exactly what you ask for - and maybe a little less just as a precaution because they can always take off more.

If you are used to going to a salon where you just say "make me beautiful" and expect an artful hair style this might not be the salon for you.  But if you are looking for a cute little shop where you will feel very comfortable and the skilled stylists will listen to what you want then I highly recommend trying out Mousey Brown.  You can't really beat a nice $55 haircut in this city.

I had been to Mousey Brown a few times (each time with a different stylist), and was satisfied but never thrilled about the cuts... until I discovered Rita. She is an absolute GEM. Never before have I found a hairstylist who seemed to understand my hair so instinctively - so often I have found myself arguing with hairdessers who don't seem to believe me (no, really... I've had this hair for a few years now, I really DO know what it does and how it grows...). There is something incredibly refreshing and reassuring to have a stylist listen so well, and not only trust me , but even preempt my own guidance by instinctively recognizing what the challenges must be. It was hair therapy.

I've always been completely inept when it comes to actually styling my own hair - I'm a wash-n-run gal - but Rita has offered dozens of quick and easy styling tips that I actually feel empowered to try. And now that I go to Rita regularly, she recognizes my style and preferences, and during every visit she offers great styling tips and recommends fun 'dos.

I swear, I joined Yelp just to give Rita a good review. (And to warn folks off of a demonic dentist, but that's another story.)

As a rule, I'm a Devachan devotee.  But sometimes you don't feel like making an online res and waiting two weeks and drinking that cloying fruit tea and spending $150 on products.  Those times, I head to Mousey Brown, which is cool and easy and reasonable.  Yeah, they can give you some hipstered-out rock mullet, but they can also do a cut square enough for a job interview, if that's what you need.  Everybody I've dealt with is fun, relaxed and attitude-free.

My brother is the true MB addict in my DNA pool; it is the first place able to tame his strangely cowlicky and voluminous mop into the more restrained bed-head that is de rigeuer in his milieu.  Andrew is his guy, btw.

Billyburg at its finest, and never too hard on the wallet.

When I was living in Asia, I had the best hair stylist ever. His name was Lok and he was a tiny 21-year old boy from Hong Kong, and every time I saw him, he was wearing Dr. Martens and a black wool trench coat that was so tight he had to cut the seams of the armpits open to achieve the range of motion necessary for his "creations". When he was done cutting, he'd be covered in my hair. He'd dramatically whip off my cape and declare me a masterpiece.

The moral of that story is: I'm a little picky about my haircuts. My hair's in an asymmetrical bob, and I'm really particular about layers vs. thinning and my hair looking sleek, not lumpy. I came to Mousey Brown a few weeks ago for a trim/reshaping cut and got basically a trim.

The pros: I had Rita (I think) and she was really nice about doing exactly what I wanted. I even came back after walking around for 10 minutes because I decided my bangs weren't completely perfect. She was great about fixing them and making sure I was happy with what she did. She also listened to me when I told her what I wanted and didn't try to change my mind or tell me to do something else.

The cons: She listened to me a little too well, if that's possible. As much of a control freak as I am, I want a hair stylist to listen to my ideas and then do something that is like that but way better. I'm not a stylist, and I appreciate the opinion of professionals as long as they don't make me feel stupid about what I want. I asked for a trim and reshaping, but got basically just a trim. My hair looks fine and the cut was good value for money, but I'm already starting to feel the new haircut itch again. I think it's a good middle haircut, but will probably go back to Shampoo Ave. B for my next cut.

All in all, I'd go back if it were a little more convenient to my home or office. The price is reasonable, the atmosphere was really laid-back, and I absolutely loved that Rita didn't try to make me talk to her the whole time and have one of those awful, oversharey talks that some stylists seem to think customers want. I'd recommend this place over lots of cheaper and some slightly more expensive places, especially for people who know exactly they want and are happy with getting just that.

I'm still on the fence regarding Mousey Brown.  I like the look and feel of the salon, and everyone was nice but there was something that wasn't so hot about my experience, now.... what was it???

Oh yeah, I was in and out in 15 minutes.  No joke, consult, wash, cut (razor, not scissors which was uneven and I had to ask her to fix it) and blow dry.  I'm trying really hard not to be too comparative to my last salon (Pierre Michel) because well, I just couldn't afford to keep going there, but 15 minutes?  I don't know, I didn't feel like I was really listened to with what I like to do with my hair (or not do for that matter.)  It seemed that if I didn't let my stylist do whatever they wanted, I wasn't going to get a good look that lasted more than a couple of days.  My stylist wanted my cut to be much messier looking, to get more of that "Williamsburg look", and much shorter.  Which, fine, I'll go shorter but I don't want to have a haircut that has to be messed up looking in order to look right.  I guess I shouldn't complain going from 160 a cut to 55, but...

I'm a bit disappointed, especially since its only been about 5 weeks since my cut, my hair is already falling flat and doesn't look so hot when it is not blowdried.  (PM cuts lasted me 8 weeks before I definitely had to go in for a trim, looked good after sleeping on it and still did what it was supposed to do after 2 days of not washing - that's how amazing my haircut was.)  If I decide to go back, I will post an update...

UPDATE:  6/9/2008

I went to my appointment this weekend, first of the day, was there early and my stylist was 35 minutes late and didn't call to say that they would be there in 15 minutes until they were 15 minutes late already!  I was so upset.  However, they apologized profusely and gave me a good cut - compared to the last one.  I have such mixed feelings because I like my cut right now, but you know... my second time there, same stylist and you're late?  I mean, I wouldn't have been upset had they been running behind with clients, but they were physically late for work AND hungover.  That's just not cool.  I was so worried about my hair getting screwed up but in the end it didn't matter because I didn't FEEL amazing when I left.

July 2008 -
Sorry, Mousey Brown, I'm moving on to a different salon...  The cut grew out so fast and I looked kinda straggly.

The guy with the long Ozzy hair c. 1970 behind the front desk was totally cute and is now my new crush.

Well, okay, fine, I'll talk a bit about the haircut. It looks good, pretty much like the picture I brought in and my hairdresser Chris was quite nice, professional and did a good job. He even flattered me a little, remarking how shiny my hair was, and he kept a straight face when I admitted that I had cut my own fringe. I didn't ask for anything complicated and got just what I wanted. Generally, I dislike my hair and fight its natural wave as well as I can, but I think this cut will look decent even when airdried. Any hairdresser who can make me like my hair has got some talent, and Chris qualifies in my book.

So, four stars for a good haircut, good service and nice interior decoration. The extra star is for the cute guy. I hope he reads this (but isn't creeped out) because I want to be his friend.

Mousey Brown is okay... I mean, the place is cute, the staff was nice enough and the price is great for the neighborhood but I didn't LOOOVE my hair afterwards -although there was nothing wrong with it- it just kind of lacked umph. Although I'm notoriously hard to please when it comes to cutting my hair, so maybe it's me. Jen cut my hair and was super nice and friendly. I would probably go back and try to explain myself better. For the price and location Mousey Brown is definitely a good pick.

My free Bumble & Bumble student haircut got cancelled so I went impatiently to Mousey Brown. Rita cut my super duper fine hair into a chic bob with eyebrow skimming bangs, which other hairdressers have told me my hair was too thin to have. I look smokin! I highly recommend her. I am thrilled. $55 dollars too. Great deal.

I am writing this review one year later because I am still seeing the unfortunate effects of Mousey Brown everytime I look in the mirror.

I made an appoinement and the receptionist forgot to write down that it was for color. I sat in the chair, had my consult and then the stylist (I forget her name- she was shortish with curley hair, from Florida) told me she didnt have time to to color and I could either wait through her next client or come back. She was not kind, apologetic or amenable in any way about this. She had her schedule to keep, those were my options. I opted to come back the next day.  On the way out, the receptionist asked me for a deposit! Ummm. I protested and she literally growled at me. Growled.

I came back the next day (out of fear? a psychological need to disprove assumptions of my irresponsibility?). I made it clear as day to the sylist that every single color treatment I had had in the past year made my hair too dark since my porous hair pulls more color than most. I told her the exact forumla to use. I told her adding volume was a no-no and to use any tool she had to avoid this. SOOO, this charming gem puts #1 on my hair, the darkest choice a colorest can use, and does it, for the first time on my head ever...with permanent dye.

I fielded questions from men about if I was a goth. I had an ex-boyfriend of 15 years ask suspicious sounding questions about my hair color (I am too young to be grey, but am).  But best of all, I have a permanant black band in the middle of my long beautiful brown hair. A black band that has TWICE THE VOLUME of the hair above and the hair below.

NEVER GO HERE!!
rude, aggressive, irresponsible, incompetent

Not happy with my cut, I had written an angry review and given this salon one star.  However, when the owner found out how unhappy I was, she made a point of contacting me to see what they could do to make the situation better.
I'm still not happy about the cut, but I have to acknowledge that Mousey Brown's does whatever they can to make their customers happy and they deserve better than one star reviews.

not a bad price and the cut was so-so. The guy who ran the place was nice and all but there's a lot better in the neighborhood. Most likely I'll never get my hair cut there again.

i went to mousey brown the day after a particularly gruesome finals period had ended, feeling utterly gross and shabby and in need of pampering, and i walked out a much better looking/feeling version of me.

i had an appointment with jen and i did a terrible job explaining what i wanted but she did a great job reading my mind, gave me a beautiful reddish gloss that makes my hair super shiny (and i get compliments on the color even by strangers on the street - so fun!), cut lots of layers into my hair (that i'd been cutting myself for the last three years...no, it wasn't pretty) for texture and movement. when she styled it, it looked amazing but i was worried it wouldn't work if i didn't spend tons of time with a blowdryer and product (i'm more of a wash-and-go type girl) - no need to worry, it still looks good even if i don't do anything to it. first time in years i've found a stylist that makes me super super happy.

I've now made it back to the M.B. twice since my original post and have been pleased by the attention to detail and the constant conversation.  Andrew has cut my hair twice as I try to grow it out.  I enjoy that he explains his decisions before he makes moves with his scissors and he has totally been in tune with what I want.  I consider myself a customer of the M.B. because of the price and the reliability.  Yay!

I too have been from salon to salon to salon, the the past four years I've lived in nyc. I typically have a very hard time articulating what I want with my hair, as I'm more subjective with it..if that makes any sense. So often some tagline like "fashionmullet" spews from my mouth, and I'm left with a haircut I hate.
So I've passed Mousey about a bajillion times on the bus, and finally made an appt with a friend. I was randomly placed with Lacey, and was very apprehensive about it..considering it wasn't technically a referral, save all the glowing reviews about her on Yelp. But on this mildly rainy May day, the hair gods must have finally cut me a break. Lacey was amazing. She gave me an awesome cut, some even awesomer bangs, and blew my hair straight like I like it! She's super profesh and has a way with her shears. I am sooooo picky, and never walk out of a salon happy, except for today. Thanks Lacey! I have a big mouth and will toot you up to all my friends. Muah MB!

I have hard to manage, fine, wavy/curly hair. It resembles something between a bad ogilvy home perm and lint. I was recommended Mousey Brown, specifically Laci through work chums, and thank fred they did. Laci spoke to me prior to my haircut and actually LISTENED to what I needed. She asked how I normally style it, prep it, wash it and suggested a cut that's appropriate to my lifestyle and hair texture. Then she got to work - first by cutting it dry, then washing it and then really going to town. I was a little stunned by the volume, but have since grown to adore it. Laci was awesome and didn't push services or products, just merely letting me know what my options were. I DID buy product because her work with it spoke for itself. I have completely embraced my waves and I am absolutely loving my hair and the style. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair, and from people that rarely speak to me (my boss). I'll gladly trek into Brooklyn from Manhattan. Laci Rules!!

The only reason this salon didn't get a perfect rating as they didn't ply with me liquor.

This is the best salon for good cuts and hair color, in Williamsburg.
The prices are good. $55.00 for every cut with every stylist.
None of the junior vs senior stylist price b.s.
Haircolor was pricey, but they fixed the most screwed-up dye job from another salon. And now that it is fixed, it'll only be about $85.00 every couple of months to maintain it. I love my color now!
Plus they are opening a day spa next door soon. LoVE It !

It's a beautiful salon on McCarren Park.
Cool, yet courteous. Laid-back, but refined.
Loads of yummy product to nourish my gorgeous new hair.
