This place surprised me. Although there were plenty of things to nit (dead light switches, ancient hi-flow shower head, nasty plastic shower curtain, strange assortment of old utensils in the kitchen, tiny hot tub) somehow it was an amazingly tranquil and romantic place to relax.
The king bed was comfortable and the vaulted wood ceilings and fireplace were a nice touch. Definitely a good couples spot. Stunning views of the lake. A couch was a fine place to watch the flames and drink my cocoa, across from my gear hanging nicely in a wardrobe. Could have easily housed three or four more people (I made the res with others but they caught cold. No refund plus 2-4 ft of powder meant I had no trouble coming on my own).
The hot tob was hot. It's a tiny 2ft deep plastic tub with mediocre jets, and you have to drag the old vinyl insulated cover off. But I found myself relaxed and smiling into the sky as big wet flakes landed around me. Strange location (near the road instead of the lake). I was told there is a bigger tub right next to it, but it was buried beneath 2-3 ft of snow. The front desk said low occupancy in prior weeks meant they didn't want to run the big tub.
Perhaps most interesting of all, the woman at the front desk was insanely great. I felt a little guilty bugging her for information over and over, but she recommended excellent cheap eats within a mile, made smart conversation, and that's what really made this a comfortable place for me. She gave the kind of friendly, genuine care you do not find from the typical ski kiddies (no surprise, she doesn't ski) but instead expect at five star resorts with trained professionals.
So I'd give the quality of the bathroom and kitchen as well as hot tub a three, and the bed/living area was a four. For what it's worth the non-skier woman from the east coast who works the front desk is a five plus. I'll average that to a four overall.
First visit - in hearts, mainly because of the location & being on the beach.
Second visit - was the go to choice after sourcing other accommodations (hoping for something cheaper) because you know what you're paying for...
Third visit - now on the "DO NOT USE" list. we were extremely disappointed. i've been back 3 summers in a row and they offer no discounts other than there measly AAA. we were somehow fortunate to get stuck to a family with 3 young kids who were crying, playing, kicking & screaming @ 11pm at night and up @ 7am in the morning. the walls are thin, the wooden walkway ables you to hear people walking or kids running and stomping up & down the stairs. their "private" beach is no longer so private as beach hippies/gypsies make their way across the unmarked beach border. the rooms are stuffy because there's no A/C. the location is right off the main road so it can be noisy from the road traffic and especially if you're naturally attempting to create a cross breeze. rooms average $240/night in the summer and you have to pay $10/day for wifi - is that really necessary? the beds are lumpy and the rooms aren't the cleanest.
Although I must say it is nice to stay on the beach, and the table & chairs on the main deck, right outside your room are nice a nice touch.
Rodger W's review is on point...i too had wet soaked carpets.
