We have now had two wonderful stays at Mountain View Grand. Gorgeous hotel, beautiful views, delicious breakfasts and excellent value for the rate we paid. The rooms are old, historic and can be quirky (small bathrooms etc) but that is why I love this place. The staff is warm and welcoming. A wonderful place for a family getaway!

We've stayed here a few times in recent years.
Pros - The scenery can't be beat - the grounds themselves are very well cared for and offer a lot of different activities. The outside pool gets very busy - check out the indoors pool if Marco Polo isn't your thing. The breakfast buffet was decent enough. Axe throwing twice a day (you'll either be a hero or make yourself look silly).
Cons - The carpet in our room was filthy and some of the furniture was askew and very dusty upon our arrival. Even though the place was renovated not so long ago it's starting to look a bit worn in spots - the rooms aren't weathering all that well. The staff wasn't nearly as friendly/service-focused as they used to be.
The farmer visit was also a far cry from the fun experience it was years ago - the new main farmer was a really bad ambassador for the hotel. To the credit of management, I brought this to their attention and received a very prompt response from the hotel GM that the issue was being resolved/staff was being retrained.
It's a great location, but it's certainly not a bargain (I think there are other premier resorts in the North Country that offer a bit better bang for the buck.) -

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel and its staff... and neither can the 180+ guests that attended our wedding there! We are all in love with this place! My husband Jeremy and I have visited many times and can't wait to get back.
Some Highlights:
STAFF. You're never going to find people like this. 100% supportive and friendly. There truly isn't a bad apple in the bunch. Every single one of our guests had to point out to us how much they appreciated the staff. Couldn't be more kind and accommodating. The drawback is you never want to leave and you always wish you are on your way back.
Grandeur. Check out some of the pictures of this massive, Victorian structure. It's awe inspiring, romantic, breathtaking - you name it. At the same time, amidst the fresh, White Mountain air, it's the most relaxing place.
Grounds. Go for a walk around the whole property. You'll fall in love with it even more.
Wine Cellar. Make a reservation. Yeah, it's pricey, but you're on vacation (or something like it) and it's worth every penny. You will regret not dining there.
Spa. Do the Tower Sok!!! (then get a pedicure and tell Gari-Leigh we all miss her!).
With all of our extended family invited, we really wanted one centralized location where we could all spend time together, so a resort was really what we were looking for. The MVG is a resort with so much to offer. In finding the perfect venue for us, we needed a very kid-friendly place. We wanted something that offered entertainment to all ages and wasn't a place that the kids were bored at because it was too adult (a Marriott or Hyatt or any standard hotel would never work for our crowd). We wanted something where we could say to our families "Hey, please come, this place had so much to offer you!" What's key about the MVG is that it has all of that but goes further to include overwhelmingly gracious and personalized service and ultimately makes you feel like you're THE bride and not "another bride that day."
When Jeremy and I first visited the hotel, we checked-in with Jeffrey, who was super sweet, warm, inviting and informative. From there we checked out our hotel room and while the hotel is architecturally from the Victorian era, as evidenced from the facade, the hotel rooms are fully modern. The bed was so comfortable and the bathrooms, with their new fixtures and sparkling white walls and tiles, are pristine.
The MVG is far more similar to a family-run small inn where you can get the personalized care a bride wants vs. a large corporate hotel where you're just another bride.
We had the best wedding ever and that is truly because we picked the best venue.
Whether you're going for a weekend, going for your Wedding weekend, or someplace in-between - I implore you to check out this hotel. You will have the time of your life. -

the lady and I had a good time at this historical hotel in the white mountains. the place was decorated nicely for the holidays. not a boat load of activities here this time of year, but it's always nice to have a pool, jacuzzi and sauna that are toasty. not the most fantastic place I've ever stayed but definitely not the worst either. more kids than i cared for, but hey, it's xmas time...

The hotel itself is amazing after it's $20M+ renovation and was especially "magical" during the Holiday season. Our family had a blast with the winter sports, proximity to Santa's Village, sleigh ride etc and the lengths the staff goes to for Holiday decorating is wonderful.
We were hard pressed to find any accommodations close to this one which were on par. If you like views of the many (57 I think) mountain peaks, you'll love it here. On the downside, with the exception of a great little greasy spoon breakfast place called Grandma's Kitchen, 2 minutes drive away, you'll go broke by having every meal in their one "family" restaurant. For perspective, my bill for the weekend (two nights) with meals was $1,000. -

I was here last night with a buddy of mine getting ready to go to Team O'Neil racing school in nearby Dalton. We had a late dinner. My french-onion soup was fantastic as was the Haddock fish sandwich. It was the best fish sandwich I've had in years - two large pieces and cooked perfectly. The waitress was attentive and did a superb job.
My buddy had a great bowl of NE clam chowder, even though it was not Manhattan style. He said his turkey club sandwich was the best he's had in a very long time.
The scenery here is amazing now that the sun's up. If you're up here in the North Woods of NH, you need to stop by here. I'll be back with my wife for sure. -

I see the staff / place got a bad review which I don't think is fair...
This place is majestic and beautiful...this is a GORGEOUS and classic Grande Dame Historic hotel with AMAZING activities for kids and adults...
I especially recommend the bar where you can find my friend Diane McDermott managing the bar 5-6 days a week...this bar was my kid's favourite place to hang out night after night as the staff treated us like family and didn't mind me coming into the place in my various costumes (google Captain Truism Discusses Space Sex)...
AMAZING VIEWS, amazing outdoor chess set my kids are fond of and much much more... -

My fiancee and I went here for a late lunch as was recommended by the owner of the B&B we were staying at. The service was horrendous. We seated ourself in the bar after waiting with no luck finding a host/hostess in the other seating area. We asked for some bread to start with and the bartender said that because they usually serve them at dinner, we would have to wait for them to be warmed up. No problem... except when she gave them to us, they were cold, dried out, stale and disgusting. They tasted like they had defrosted on a counter over night. I order the pear salad and for 8 dollars, I was not impressed. There was a half a pear, about 5 walnuts, and maybe a 1/2 cup of spinach. My fiancee ordered the pot roast which was mediocre and the vegetables it came with looked like they had been microwaved. The meal was an utter disappointment. The only redeeming qualities were the beer and french fries. Your better off looking elsewhere for food. Definitely stop by to see the view though! GORGEOUS!

Stayed here one night for a wedding so we didn't get to use the amenities. Front desk service was lacking. Room was covered in dust. Bed was awful. Service at restaurant and reception was slow. Views from the front porch were fantastic! I'd recommend popping in for a drink or snack on the porch only.

I had a very romantic weekend planned for my wifes birthday and was very surprised at the lack of customer service I received from this hotel this past Saturday Feb 24. First off, the check in process was terrible. We waited over an hour and some for a room arriving well after check in time and due to the computers being down, we were told we would have to sit and wait after a long trip up from Boston. Next problem, the breakfast off the menu in the Tavern/lounge, the service took over an hour and the breakfast was burned. The server told us they werent prepared for this service in the lounge and they provided no other explanations. Why serve it at all. The couple behind us complained also. I have never been so embarrassed in my life of the lack of service I received. Your front desk service had no maps of the facility due to the copier being down or some other excuse. For a place so nice in appearance, I am shocked at how you treat your guests. I will pass this on to my friends and fellow travelers and will also post this on websites. It is horrible. The staff is a bunch of kids that have no courtesey and no knowledge of anything. It is a tragedy that a place this historic and so beautiful can let the service suffer like this. I filed a formal complaint with the hotel and with the better business bureau!! BEWARE!!!! STAY AWAY!! For the price you can do better!!
