I can't imagine a better farmer's market. The hours are perfect, the free samples are perfecter... There's such a diversity of stands... From flowers to Indian food, bakeries to potatoes and asparagus. And live music!
The 'flavor king' pluots just might be the best fruit I've ever tasted, and I'm an authority on the matter, I've eaten so many blueberries my eyes are blue. -

Love going here on Sunday mornings and picking out some fresh fruits & veggies. And Acme bread! I'm a huge fan of their Sour Batard & Sweet Baguette. Super fresh with that heavenly crispiness. I haven't tried a lot of the other products the vendors have here, although a lot of them look super tasty!
Some of the vendors are a bit pricier than others, so have a good look around before you commit! I'm still a loyal Milk Pail customer, but this farmers' market has definitely become a weekly adventure too.
Oh and they always have some live music playing, which is pretty sweet. -

Ripped off again. Don't go to the vendors where the weights prices are not displayed on the scale where you can see them. The merchants which use scales where you can't see the displayed weight are frequently crooks. They can't do math, they just round up and making up totals.
Went to a Hmong Vegetable merchant, charged $6.00 for 5 carrots and 2 cabbages. Dude stuck things on a scale, just rounded up to $2 each time. You can't see the scale weights. I think he can't do math, they just make up a number and start adding "easy" whole numbers.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The san francisco alemany farmers market is still the best farmers market in the bay area, I think this one would be second for me. Yes, the food is a bit more pricey here, but I love the selections and the quality. From the fish stand to the incredible pastries and the oh so sweet strawberries - it's worth driving down here maybe once every other month. I'll come back in April!

Mountain View, CA
I usually come here for the mushrooms, Chinese veggies, peaches/nectarines, grapes, apples, oranges, almonds, and orchids. There is really an amazing variety of things here-- mostly depends on what is in season. I used go to Milkpail for the longest time, but the quality is much better here.
To those people who complain that this place is "expensive" -- just hang around until the place is about to close, some vendors drop their prices some. But really -- compared to Whole Foods, this place is a bargain. -
Review from Wendy T.
Look: It's nice.. in the Caltrains lot... :) I've only been two a few other farmers markets over the past few years... and I think this is the biggest one I've personally been to...
Food: WOW. I like this place. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies.. got some nice tomatoes & cucumbers. :) I haven't eaten them yet.. but I'm planning my meal tonight! :) There's just so much to choose from.. but each stand seems to have it's own personality... so even though some stands have the same things.. it's different? I don't know if that makes any sense... but I love walking through the stands and seeing the different types of fruits/veggies they have. :)
Overall: I like it... This will probably be the farmers market I think of.. the next time I plan to attend one. :) -
Review from Rob C.
large variety, seasonal, reasonably priced -- still great. tidbit: close to 1 o clock, the vendors want to sell as much as they can, so you'll see deals like 5 lb for $5. could use some food carts/trucks

Review from Dianna D.
This place is really expensive, but I think it's really worth it.
They sell fruits that are in season only, and this time there were lots of stone fruits, with peaches, pluots, and plums, as well as berries and tomatoes. They are not shy with samples, and there really is a difference between the tastes of white peaches and ripe strawberries from stand to stand. Lots of flowers, for a lot cheaper than supermarkets, but a lot more beautiful and are huge!
I also really love the prepared food here. They have Afghani bolani and sauces (one of my fave), acme bread, almond flour baked goods (chocolate torte is to die for!), salmon stand, grass-fed beef stand, olives/olive oil freshly pressed, Chinese food, Indian food, Danish bread....I just want to eat it all! On top of that, customer service is exceptional, and the owners really want to share their knowledge and food with you.
I can't wait to come here during all the different seasons to see the different fruits and foods. Definitely an interesting thing to do on the weekend! -

It's a lot of fun going to the farmers market to get food for the week, and it's really nice supporting local farmers and businesses. We've found a few favorite items:
- Grass fed beef. omg, we just had the hamburger tonight, and it was amazing
- Corn during the summer. wow, delicious
- Pumpkin ravioli
- Chinese rolls
The reasons for only 3 stars are as follows:
- It's crowded.
- The fruits and veggies aren't as fresh and / or flavorful as you might expect.
- It's a little expensive. -
Review from Elaine T.
Sorry for cheating on you, SJ Farmers Markets, but I genuinely found something better.
I don't consider a couple of gathered vendors a farmers market, but oftentimes that's what you'll find. Not here!!! Despite being situated in a seemingly small parking lot along the CalTrain, the Mountain View Farmers Market has a plethora of different vendors from which to choose. Their selection is fantastic! From vegetables to flowers, dairy products, honey, breads, pastries, body products...the list is endless!
There are so many vegetable vendors, perhaps you should take a stroll through to compare prices! Ah...what a luxury.
Namely, ACME Breads and Margaret's Bakery are the two vendors I make it a POINT to stop by.
After purchasing your goodies, I suggest taking a walk to downtown Mountain View for brunch/lunch. It's literally a block down the street! -
Review from Edgar N.
Eh. In all honesty, I preferred the Sunnyvale Farmer's Market. You get a similar selection as you would here, the parking situation isn't nearly as bad (you can park in the Caltrain parking structure), and you can support the local shops on Murphy St. as they open early for this event. The MV farmer's market is out in a parking lot.
Yeah, good effort but I'll keep it local and go to the Sunnyvale market. -

Fremont, CA
The selection here is huge and the crowds are maddening. There's also more organic choices here--more vendor for organic produce and meats.
On the negative side, it is more expensive and there is less selection of "Asian" veggies like bok choy, yuchoy, etc. But hey, you ARE in Mtn VIew.
It's also conveniently located right off MtnView downtown so you can grab a bite too. -

Cute little farmer's market, everything described in the other Yelp reviews was accurate and true. When people say there is "that mushroom stand" and "the cheap vegetable stand with all the Chinese people", you definitely know which one they're talking about.
My two tips:
- Go early, because Acme sells out of the more popular breads.
- Bring your own re-usable bags/baskets! Everyone else does*. I didn't know and had to use the plastic bags. I'm so ashamed.
*Side note: I didn't know there was such a large contingent of green, "hug-a-tree" peoples in Mountain View. At one stand, a vendor asked an average looking middle-aged man if he wanted a plastic bag and he responded indignantly, "NO, never!!" As if he was offended by such a thing. Wow, I would never have guessed. He wasn't even wearing hemp or anything. Go planet! -

I love farmers markets in general & the fact that its a less than 5 minute walk from my boyfriend's place that gives it an extra star all on its own!
it was pretty crowded and there were a lot of cute families walking out there from their own home. it's just like many other farmers market but to me it seem like people here were much nicer & it also has a wider variety to select from (comparing to the california ave farmers market). there were a lot of teenage girls (or girls that looks younger than me) yelling & advertising the fruits & samples. it was a lot more lively, plus there was a live teenage band playing!
I was able to try a lot of the fruits (my favorite at the market) & got some pastries (fruit tart & a croissant, but in stick form, kinda like a churro, but it was reallyyy good!). I sampled the kimchi and didn't expect it to be soo good! it was the best kimchi i've ever had & i ended up buying some (for $5 a tub). my boyfriend is better at commenting on the samples & foods since I'm super picky & won't eat much of it whereas he went for all that was offered haha -

I lived in Sunnyvale, but work in Mountain View. Went to school in Santa Clara, and moved to San Jose. I have been to all local cities farmers market and Mountain view is by far the best I have been too.
I live in San Jose but will travel to mountain view just to enjoy a small but lively little farmers market. Parking can be a pain but it's not as bad as SJ.
Check it out! -
Review from Darren T.
Insane farmer's market. I was pretty sad that I was rushed and didn't have a chance to spend as much time here as I wanted. As an avid home cook I was so excited to be here. Things in particular I want to mention:
Large variety of produce. Locally grown, etc. Decent prices and proud growers.
The fish stand is awesome. Freaking awesome. We spoke to a lady about her salmon in particular. Wild caught sashimi grade salmon. It was so freaking amazing.
ACME bread was great. The texture of the bread was amazing as well as the sweetness.
Like I said, I didn't have much time to spend here but it was an amazing experience and I'd definitely drop by to check it out if I had a chance to. -
Review from Reid Y.
My tip for you - don't park in the parking lot! There's not enough space and leaving the parking lot is a nightmare since there's tons of people crossing the street to get into the market that accelerating out is never easy. There's plenty of parking on the side streets that if you can stand walking a few blocks, things will be much easier.
No dogs in the Farmer's Market.
Favorites:
- the Acme Bread truck (sweet batard + sourdough baguette)
- the Afghani guy who aggressively gives out free samples
- the Eastern European couple that sells gorgeous flowers
- the local farmers who have fresh fruit and vegetables to buy. Strawberries were $30 for a full flat and blueberries were recently in abundance.
I haven't tried the Irish Bakery or the Scream Sorbet places just yet, but they also look pretty delicious! -
Review from Malini D.
Ahh, a very refreshing market. The people are friendly, and there are tons of samples to try out. Many seasonal veggies and fruits are available, as well as some homemade cheeses, sausages and other meats and fish. They even sell herbs! There are many baked goods stands, but the overwhelming kind of store is fresh veggies and fruits, so you'll have the opportunity to walk around and compare prices (which I recommend you do; prices vary!). You can get a week's worth of groceries for cheap, considering the freshness and quality of goods!
There is a coffee place here (Papachay) that I'd tell you to avoid only because for 3 bucks a cup, it's really not worth the price. It's a smidgen above the quality you'd find at Starbucks, so if you really want a coffee right then, go for it, but otherwise, go to your favorite place. Aside from that, go wild at the stalls! But watch your step, it's damn crowded. -

This farmer's market is located in a great location and has a very nice ambiance. It motivates me to wake up early on a Sunday, and few things beat strolling down the market in the morning and sampling the wide array of food available.
Among the food I got/samples I tried:
- French pastries (the cheesey croissant-stick was great)
- Teriyaki tofu/kimchi (one of the best kimchi I've had)
- Organic cookies
- Almond milk
- Sorbet
- Extremely chocolate-y chocolate cake (I did not know chocolate taste could get so concentrated)
- Numerous dips and spreads, including the great sauces available at the Santa Cruz Pasta Factory booth (I have tried both the excellent Pesto and Zesty Cheese Spreads)
I passed by vendors selling the following, but did not get a chance to try their food: Irish pastries, French meat, dim sum (prices are on the higher end here), and fresh oysters. Luckily, the market is within walking distance for me, and I will certainly be back for more delicious samples and food. -

We just moved from Fremont to Mountain View and were happy to find the Flea Market here was bigger with more selections than in Fremont. I dont like the absence of prepared food since I like having brunch while my Fiance walks around buying veggies and fruit.

One of the best farmer's markets I've been to, even on a rainy day!
My favorite things:
-fresh flowers - cut, potted, or sold by seeds/bulbs.
-ACME fresh bread
-oysters and ceviche tostadas
-live music
-friendly, knowledgeable, helpful vendors
-Salmon hummus
-mustard gouda
-you can go there hungry, and leave full without spending a dime (but really, I dare you not to buy something - it's impossible for me).
-biodegradable plastics bags (at some spots). They also sell reusable bags.
-honey & chive goat cheese
-flourless cookies and cakes
-fruit tarts
-cinnamon rolls
WOW! I love it! -

I love this farmer's market.
Some vendors I like are:
-Prevedelli Farms, they sell jams and they are super good. Try sweet heat and blackberry chipotle. And they go great with Acme bread.
-Acme Bread, they have the freshest baguettes.
-And the man who sells dates!! those are sooo good.
Farmers market is a great way to sustain our local farmers and put fresh & organic foods in our table. Plus, it's tax free!
Coming here every Sunday is definitely my family's tradition now. -

Mountain View, CA
My family and I try to come out to the farmer's market every Sunday; it's a great place to get farm fresh produce plus a few other goodies. Out of all the farmers market other than the one in the Ferry Building in SF, this place in my opinion is the best place to go in the South Bay/Peninsula. You'd find things that you will not get at the grocery store and the people selling are very friendly.
In ways, it reminds me a little about the European towns where you'd get a lot of these outdoor markets. So, come out, get some fresh produce, have fun, and support our local growers! -

Great variety of fresh produce and fruit and plenty of free samples to fuel my shopping! Today I also stopped for the ceviche tostada (from the girls who sell the oysters) and grabbed a cheesy breadstick (always forget the bakery name but they are close to the oysters). Soooo good!!
Be prepared for the crowds. Watch out for the little old ladies and their carts - easy to trip over! I have a 5 min walk from my front door so I'm not familiar with the parking situation but sometimes there is a bit of a traffic jam downtown. But still worth a visit if you are in the area! -

Love this farmer's market! Great selection of fruits and vegetables, not to mention other delectable foods: desserts, dried fruits, cheeses, meats, seafood... the list seems endless! All the vendors area really cheerful and friendly, and sometimes when they're extra nice they'll throw in other produce in with your purchase just for you to take home and try. Without question, the most popular booth is Acme bread. Always a line, so get there early if you want the freshest and best selection of bread!
I don't get to go to the farmer's market as often as I want, but every time I do it always starts my day out right. It's always a good feeling to know you're taking home organic produce and supporting local farmers! -

San Jose, CA
Love the quality of produce at this farmers market. And there are a few venders I really like who go to this one. These is a lady who sells cheese curd and smoked gouda. Really good. And a russian guy who sells some interesting smoked sausages and sourkraut. There are also a few vendors who sell some hard to find sprouted plants.
Minus a star because there is a poor selection of bread and food vendors. Also the parking kindof sucks. And the guy who sings is shoved in the far corner where nobody can hear him, instead of being in the middle of it all making everybody's day a little bit better with his tunes. -

San Mateo, CA
This is my second time here. The first time when I was here with the husband, we were overwhelmed by the amount of people. We managed to leave the first time with a $6 container of baked kale chips. Since then, I have learned to make my own. :D
The second time was just as overwhelming in terms of the amount of people, but I'd like to think of it as "the more, the merrier." =P To appease the husband, I did purchase a Snicker-doodle cookie and a coconut macaroon for him for $1.50 each. :)
There were some decent food stands too that I was curious about. There were even raw oysters, and I was certainly tempted by that! Maybe next time! I miss bolani, so maybe one of these days, I will have to give in. :P
I had two things I needed/wanted on my list of things to do. One was to find some cauliflower to use as a rice replacement, and the other was to find some quality grass-fed meat. Well, I managed to find both, so I was a happy camper. We stopped by the Full of Life stand and purchased a 4 pound bag of beef bones and some sirloin tips. I was most excited about the bones because I've been craving to make my own beef broth!
Ooooh, I also purchased a baby cilantro plant! So cute! :D Cilantro is a must-have in my kitchen!
So, overall, I could definitely see myself stopping by at least once a month. As for parking, we parked kinda far away on Moffett Blvd, but at least it was easy to find parking there. Next time, I need to get myself one of those stroller carts like the ones the lil' old ladies tote around! -
Review from Dawn M.
This is my favorite market, really although far from my home there is the mushroom tent which has delights found no where else, flower stands everywhere and vendors selling everything from organic fruit to salmon and bread. It is located at the Caltrain station so parking is available if you are adventurous.
On our last trip we scattered and found so many wonderful items that we had to make 2 visits back to the SUV to reload having left the granny cart at home after our trip to Na Pali.
I found elephant kale whose dark wrinkled green leaves were ideal for a warm minestrone made with brown onions, carrots, celery, tomatoes, zucchini and a homemade chicken stock. I have read of this vegetable but had never seen it even in any of the Asian markets I haunt.
The matsutake mushrooms were dark knobs for $25 a pound. We bought just a few ounces for scenting Jasmine rice with a stir fry made of Japanese eggplant, chicken and other vegetables. -
Review from Trudy H.
I am in love with this market. Though it was cold and rainy, I didn't mind walking around. They have a plethora of organic fruits and veggies as well as breads and meats. It smelled so nice out there, especially the strawberries. Another neat thing is that there are lots of flowers available for sale as well.
I bought some Asian pears at 25% of the price of the average Safeway, though superior quality. The farmers and sales reps are really nice. I actually saw some produce that I've never seen in my life (some sort of cucumber looking thingy and I forgot the name). Many vendors lower prices as it gets closer to 1pm when they close. They are open on Sundays.
This place is heaven. I'll have to go back for a visit soon. -

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mountain View Farmer's Market!! I enjoy just walking around even if I don't need anything. Of course, I usually buy something anyway because there are always such wonderful fruits and vegetables, cheeses... flowers! The atmosphere is very enjoyable and most of the time with live music.

Best farmer's market in the county by far!
Favorite stands?
---Egg lady with the best fresh brown eggs - 50 cents each.
---Irish bakery with the best lemon-apricot scones.
---Fresh Mushrooms! Best I've ever had.. amazing texture and flavor - love the shiitake and tree oysters in soups
---Peaches/melons by the most enthusiastic and charming gentlemen I've met at the market
---Cheap Chinese-surrounded stand with the cheapest veggies anywhere (you know which stand I'm talking about... that one with just piles of stuff and huge lines!)
---Honey! Love the 1lb of alfalfa honey at just $6.70!!
---2 bunches for $5 flower stand, so cheap but great long-lasting flowers!
---Apple guy selling honeycrisp apples... my favorite!
I come every Sunday! So many vendors=competition for the best price and best goods. Come early to beat the craziness.Listed in: If you live in Mt. View..., Parking Nightmares!

Review from Hooria T.
I love frequenting farmers markets - I've been through dozens throughout the country and the bay area and am a regular at the Sunnyvale and Campbell markets. However, I've heard so much about the Mountain View farmers market and was really excited to check it out.
The market is held on Sunday mornings at the Mountain View CalTrain station parking lot. The market takes up pretty much the entire lot and is filled with eager shoppers. Parking is a bit challenging but if you're patient, you'll be able to find a spot.
The market has your usual suspects, fresh and organic fruits and veggies, bread, pastries, flowers, and even a vendor selling eggs and seafood! There are a couple of ready to eat stands but not as many as Sunnyvale or Campbell. There was one guy playing guitar and singing when we were there. There's not too many spots to stop and enjoy your purchases (which is maybe why they don't sell very many ready to eat items). The farmers here are eager and generous with their fruit samples so be sure to try it before you buy it!
Bottom line, I love supporting my local, organic farmers but still think that the Sunnyvale farmers markets on Saturday mornings and Campbell on Sunday mornings is where I'll be. The music and ready to eat treats at the Mountain View farmers market pales in comparison. It may be a bigger market but IMHO, bigger is not better in this case. -
Review from Kes D.
This is, hands down, the best Farmers' market I've ever been to.
Great selection year round. Cool special vendors and booths sometimes. At least 10 different languages being spoken at any given time. Granted, it's more expensive than Milk Pail, but it's about the same as Safeway-- and you can sample everything and pick the best stuff.
Fruit, veg (including Asian veg), flowers.
Prepared foods (baked goods, pakistani food, samosas, dim sum, olives)
Meats (tasty sausages), seafood (fresh raw oysters on the half shell!), cheeses (sage cheddar )
Get there early if you want Acme bread, get there late if you want cheaper deals on veg. Go, period, because you can at least make a small meal out of the samples.Listed in: Mountain View Musts

Very busy and difficult to find parking.
There is A LOT to pick from at this particular farmer's market, making it worth the hassle to get in. -

Mountain View, CA
This has become my Sunday morning ritual. I get bummed when I'm out of town and miss my farmers market. I almost always run into somebody I know, and quite often multiple people. It really is a great way to feel connected to your community.
The variety is terrific. The only thing I wish it had was hot food vendors. They don't have hot food vendors because the downtown Mt. View restaurants made that a condition for allowing the market in the first place. Okay, I get that, but either downtown Mt. View should get a breakfast place, or they should allow a breakfast food vendor on Sundays! Oy.
I love getting my weekly green smoothie at the raw food vendor. It's not cheap, but it's my weekly treat. (I make my own green smoothie every other day of the week, with greens I buy at the market, of course.)
I love g:m:me|bakery (the Irish bakery with the best scones EVAR) and Yvonne is fabulous.
I love the Apricot King and their dried apricots. I almost always get some as Christmas presents for my inlaws who live out of state. I also always buy some as thank you gifts when I visit friends in another country, because the blenheim variety dried apricots from California really are better than all the crappy "Mediterranean" dried apricots (which are flavorless).
I love that it's right next to the light rail and the Caltrain station so you have little reason to drive there. (If you do, don't even bother parking in the parking lot, just park on the side streets.)
I just love love love this place. -

This is a pretty big farmer's market.
But, I think I'll stick to Cal Ave since it's closer and has everything I need anyway. I also got strawberries here and they did not compare to Cal Ave ones. Maybe it was the vendor...
but, I may come back for raw milk, more yummy figs, grass fed meat, and fresh seafoods. Also props for the gluten-free cookie stand that uses almond flour, as well as the oyster stand (but I don't know if I'd really enjoy slurping them down at such a time--I'm a night owl and only make it here if I didn't sleep yet, lol!) -

We've been to several other farmers markets in the Peninsula. This one seems to strike a nice balance between the different types of produce and foods.
Aside from the fruits & veggies, you'll find stands that sell bread, pastries, nuts, dried fruits, honey, dumplings, eggs, seafood, and meat. There are a couple flower and plants (both herb and gardening) stands too.
From my experience the prices are generally comparable or cheaper to those at Safeway (except when they have those major sales). But it's still much cheaper than Wholefoods or Trader Joe's. Plus, you get to sample the fruits before you buy.
It's a nice environment. There are plenty of free parking all over Mountain View downtown. The Caltrain parking lot just beside the farmer's market has a surprisingly fast turn-around too. -
Review from Kathy S.
Rain or shine (of course usually shine), this Farmers Market is bustling every Sunday morning until the early afternoon.
The fall produce at this market is second to none. The apples are the freshest I've ever tasted and the range of fruit and vegetables here is baffling. I am constantly being introduced to new types of produce and there is almost nothing you cannot find here. They even have purple potatoes, rainbow radishes, and golden delicious apples. Most of the produce here is organic if not at least pesticide free.
You can taste almost everything here for free and in generous amounts.
In addition to all the produce, you can buy a bouquet of flowers for as low as $3. There are always flowers that are in season on sale. I even found the Narcissus here this spring.
The cheese selection is excellent: blue cheese, aged cheddar, even cheese curds!
And the desserts and breads are exceptional! Sweet Temptations gluten-free raisin amaretto cookies are unforgettable. The Great Harvest Bread Co has the most savorous Pannetone and their Woodstock bread is renowned and simply the most hearty bread I've ever tasted in my life. And, of course you get to sample all of the breads and desserts for free.
Lastly, you can also find organic free range eggs, wild salmon, and grass fed free range longhorn beef here.
Farmers Market is an excellent way to shop for foods that are in season and pesticide free. It is also educational in many ways and brings awareness to where our food comes from while supporting local farmers.1 Previous Review: Show all »
