I'd probably just rate this place three stars for their menu and drinks but I'll give them one extra star for having a gluten free menu and giving me a bunch of safe dining experiences.
I can't really attest to the beer being great but I have several friends who have a million great things to say about it, and who over the course of my time at CMU dropped a good amount of money of kegs of the stout topped off with raspberry wheat.
The food is decent and priced well. I usually stick to one of their salads, more often than not the Mountain Town Salad because I could seriously drink their maple vinaigrette by the gallon. It's just standard bar food with a couple twists thrown in.
I wish I wasn't stuck being gluten free because I would love to try the scotch egg that comes with their sampler. I mean hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage then deep fried. It just sounds delicious.
I also have to give them a thumbs up for their wine room. I've found some great Michigan wines in their and have found some great deals at times. Not to say that some of the prices are a little heavy handed. -

UPDATE --- The manager personally contacted us and invited us to come back which we did. I'm thrilled to say MTS was much better the 2nd time around. While neither of us had the brisket (which still looks the same and is definitely not TX style), the salads we had were very good. Service was efficient and friendly. So basically, I now rate this as like any other good brewpub that serves food. It was all good, nothing was wrong and nothing was "wow" exceptional. A solid place to eat and drink!

No waiting at 6:30 on a Friday night should have been an obvious sign that something was wrong. We were thrilled to be seated with no wait; we were not so thrilled once the food arrived. Three of us had the brisket and it was clear the chef had no idea what he was doing. Honestly, it looked like a pot roast smothered in BBQ sauce which hid the flavor. The micro-brews saved the evening. So if you're going here to drink- good choice. If you're going here to eat - plan on grabbing a pizza on the way home. -

Not alot of Veg friendly options. Sensibly priced.
Table Kegs, Table Kegs and more Table Kegs.
Beer is really good, but doesn't go too far in diversity. The food is nicely priced from what I remember and the staff was very friendly and prompt. They brought all of our food at the exact same time and were extremely attentive. -

After a Labor Day weekend full of crap brewpubs and disappointing experiences, I was afraid the trend would continue on my last stop. Luckily, Mountain Town Station is a pretty solid establishment. It's nowhere near on par with Bells or Founders, but it ain't too shabby.
The building looks a lot like the Oaken Barrel in Greenwood, Indiana. A giant, barrel-looking feature dominates the rest of the building, which has a sort of warehouse tinge to it. Inside is elegant. Very low lights - almost too low - a nice bar, nice tables and the feeling of an upscale establishment without overdoing anything.
The food was probably the best part about my experience here. The menu is pretty varied - and pretty expensive - but one doesn't have to spend a whole arm and a leg; just one will suffice. I ordered a beef brisket entrée that came with a side, bread and salad for $14.00. Not too shabby. They were nice enough to replace my salad with a cup of mushroom bisque, which was delightful. The brisket was a bit on the cold side, but it was tender, smoky and absolutely done to perfection. The beans were a mix of black and navy in the barbeque sauce, and though they could have used some onion or bacon, were damned tasty anyways.
The beer was certainly drinkable, but nothing was nearly good enough to make me want to take some home. The weizen was nice because it had the traditional German flavors without them being overdone (I'm not a big fan of the style when the taste is strong) and the IPA was well-done. The brown and the stout was drowned out by the barbecue sauce; a sure sign there wasn't enough flavor in there even if I could get a clean taste anyways.
The service was serviceable. Quick, friendly, efficient. But nothing out of the ordinary, which describes this place quite well. -

On a camping trip to Mt P I decide to search out the local fare and I am told about this local brewpub. We decide to check it out and roll in mid afternoon. Not very busy at this time of day. We get a brew sampler like usual and I must say, the brew was decent. Nothing that blew me away but the stout was good, the golden ale was nice and the IPA was nice.
Our table was directly in front of a wall of awards for the "award winning" Ribs. Of course I have to give these a try now. I order the ribs and Brisket combo.
The Ribs are very good, falling off the bone tender. They were very tasty but I must say, the amount of BBQ sauce on them was over the top. I love BBQ ribs however that was a bit much.
All in all, i will come back for some brews next time that I am in the area, but do yourself a favor and say easy on the sauce. -

We recently went back for another sushi Wednesday to celebrate a friend's birthday. We arrived, ordered our drinks, and then didn't see our waiter for another 20 minutes even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full. We placed our orders and the appetizers came out wrong but only took about 5 minutes to fix and bring back out. An hour later, we still didn't have our main dishes and our waiter said it would be "about five more minutes." Three of us ordered sushi (basic rolls, not anything fancy) and one ordered a steak with french fries. Thirty minutes later, still no food. We asked if they could just bring take out boxes with the food because a person in our group had a prior commitment to get to and we didn't expect dinner to take over two hours. Our bill got brought out 15 minutes later, still without our food, and we noticed that 3 of the 5 sushi rolls on the order were wrong and the type of steak that was ordered was wrong. After being there for almost 2.5 hours, we wound up leaving without eating any food besides the two fried appetizers that we got about 30 minutes into the 140 minute visit. We are not likely to return.

Our party of eight drove up from Lansing to see a show at Soaring Eagle Casino to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday. I was looking for something unique (not a chain restaurant) with good food and atmosphere. Mountain Town really met our expectations. Our server, Mike, did a great job of taking care of us. Our drinks stayed full and the food was timed perfectly. I would have rated the experience a 5 based on the service, atmosphere and food, but two people in our party thought the food was just good, not great. The boxcar sampler was good (the scotch eggs were a hit), and the Asiago Chicken Rotini was really good. The BBQ beef brisket was just OK. The Special K drink was also a hit as was the micro brews. We will definitely be back.

Upscale food-service food, with an over-large menu and mediocre service.
Nice location and setting. The beer is fine.
They could do better. -

Mount Pleasant, MI
Great full-service restaurant, and recently went entirely smoke-free. Built in a restored train station, the restaurant serves a range of "pub grub" with burgers and sandwiches, all the way to outstanding Angus beef steaks, fresh fish, and to-die-for BBQ ribs. If you're there on a Wednesday, be sure to try their fresh sushi (served that night, only). The salads are worth checking out, too, as the Mountaintown Salad - with their homemade maple vinaigrette - was featured in Bon Appetit magazine. Get it with grilled chicken added in to turn it into a full meal.
Mountaintown is also known for being the one-and-only brewpub in Central Michigan. The beers are great, but not stellar, and hop-heads might be a little disappointed. That said, their IPA is quite good, and no one should turn down the chance to try their beer.
Wine lovers aren't without a resource, either. The restaurant features an extensive wine room (right at the entrance, and worth browsing while you wait for your table), and it's easily one of the best in the area.
For a special meal, or just the desire to eat great local fare, Mountaintown Station is worth the trip. -

Mountain Town is one of the only local restaurants in Mount Pleasant (non-chain). The beer brewed on-site varies with the season and is very good. They have a nice selection of brews and a decent food menu - it's not the most innovative but the food is definitely good quality. The service is usually very good (the only exception to this in my experience is on busy summer evenings in the outdoor seating area).
As Tom L. mentioned, they have beer specials during certain days/times and it can be a great place to hang out with friends - nice atmosphere and tasty microbrews.
My favorite menu item is no longer available as far as I know - the Cheddar Ale Soup was by far the best soup I have ever tasted! -

I don't know why, but this place always makes me think of Shining Times Station (please tell me I'm not the only person that remembers it... with George Carlin as some little conductor dude). That's completely irrelevant to my review, but I had to throw it out there just for someone to know. You're welcome, Yelp.
Mountain Town takes everything big chain restaurants do right, kicks it in the pants, and leaves all the crappy things in the dust. Well, as much as possible they do, at least. The menu here is pretty standard for its restaurant type, but almost all items are exceptionally well prepared. Burgers, wraps, salads, steak, and things of that nature are what you should be expecting and you can top it all off with a nice glass of wine or one of their exclusive microbrews, which I hear are always stunning.
Yes, I just said stunning.
I really like the old timey aura that surrounds this place and the inside though. Wood floors, dark lighting, dark hues of paint... stuff like that gives it a classy feeling you won't find in your local franchised bar/restaurant. And although Mountain Town does have a full bar, the emphasis here is placed more on the restaurant than the bar... so you never really have to worry too much about having to brandish fisticuffs with the local frat dudes. Save that for the Wayside.
The show stopper for me though? My delightful hate-to-love-it about Mountain Town? Well, that would be the Scotch Egg appetizer of course. It doesn't seem like many people are familiar with them so let's review: a hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, breaded, and deep fried... served with some spicy mustard on the side. They're not for everybody - but those that do enjoy them know what Heaven must be like... it's a good heart attack on a plate so indulge with caution, my friends.
Mountain Town is essentially one of the best places to stop in Mt. Pleasant for some casual dining. Check this place out, keep your eye open for George Carlin (R.I.P., my man), and enjoy some good eats in a comforting atmosphere. -

This place is great for a special night out or some great brews. It's a little pricey as far as food goes, but it's worth the $.
I recommend the Cajun Chicken Pasta (sans chicken please :)). It's really good and I always have enough for another meal.
They offer dinner trains every once in a while and they are awesome. Usually there is a theater component which is always very entertaining. The prices can be somewhat steep, but again, are worth it. -

Horrible customer service, the house salad was horrible- shredded cheese. If they are trying to go for a upscale experience, they have missed the mark. Food was bland, would not return.

Mountain Town station is good spot for parents to have dinner when visiting their kids who attend CMU, or if you are in Mt. Pleasant also would work I suppose too.
The food is pretty good, and seemed to be reasonably priced. What draws most people is their selection of beers and other drinks which can vary throughout the year.
The service was always pretty good each time I ate there, but I haven't been back there recently to provide anything further. -

For my husband's birthday, his sister got him $30 worth of gift certificates to Mountain Town Station. I saw that tonight was $2 pint night so we decided to try it out.
Good atmosphere with friendly staff. We were seated in a booth in the dining area. I got the Raspberry Wheat beer and it was very good. It tasted like it would be good for dessert too. My husband had 2 different beers and he enjoyed both (the names escape me).
I got the Cajun Chicken Pasta with a salad with Blue Cheese dressing to start with. The salad, which came with my entree as well as a roll, had so much cheese on it. I'm a fan of cheese, but this was a little too much. The Cajun Chicken Pasta was so deliciously spicy and flavorful. There was no comparison between this and the Spicy Shrimp pasta I had ordered at Applebees last week. This is a kind of pasta that is good for everyone, even if you don't care for pasta. It has so much other good things in it that the pasta is just a small part of the dish.
Husband ordered the rack of ribs. He ate until he couldn't eat anymore. The pub fries were also very good. They are more like potato wedges than fries, but they are crispy and well seasoned.
The food and beer will definitely have us coming back. Now that we know there is a Sushi day (Wednesday) we will be coming back then also. What makes it even better is that we can walk here if we wanted to. -

Mountain Town Station is awesome! The food is great and their beer is very good! Watch for the specials that they run. I remember getting pints of their delicious raspberry beer for like $2 on Thursday nights! My wine drinking friends said that they had a very nice wine selection also. Check out the website because since it used to be a train station they still have a train that they use for dinner excursions. I've never done one, but it sounds fun!

The food is always good and prices decent. I have yet to do any of the dinner trains but I have heard good things. One too many raisins in the Mountain town salad. The stout will keep bringing me back
