I have to say, my wife and I both love the Mountain Cheese & Wine shop.
Basically, if you are having a semi-decadent (or, for that matter, fully-decadent) vacation in Stowe, MC&W makes the stay complete. They have cheeses that range from Italian and English imports to the finest local products. Also available are crackers, spreads, condiments, and other treats that fit right in with a relaxing stay in Vermont. In addition to the food options available for purchase here, there is a healthy selection of beer and wine.
If you are the type of person who enjoys a bite of fine food and fine drink after a nice day in the snow, Mountain Wine & Cheese is a perfect stop. It's a quaint little spot right up the road from downtown Stowe.
While there is little wrong with this store, it is worth mentioning that the reason I give four stars here is because of the prices. I work at a business in Massachusetts that sells many of the exact same items and MW&C charges double the price in many cases. My advice is to consider bringing some ingredients of your own and then filling in the blanks with the delicious treats at Mountain Wine & Cheese. -

A lovely (and spacious) shop full of an enormous selection of wines and cheeses. There are occasionally little tables for sampling various types of cheese as well. Friendly service, and a good range of selection from low price to high end.
I'm not sure if they do wine tastings - they didn't appear to be on the days I was there, but that might have just been because they saw me coming. -

Rudest service ever. My husband and I stopped in to pick up some cheese, bread and wine for a light dinner. We hadn't been there for a minute (literally) when the the young woman behind the counter demanded "Can I get you anything or what?" and then started immediately drumming her fingers on the counter. I turned to my husband, shocked at her rudeness but willing to look past it (and the $29lb for manchengo) to get some food and said "which cheese were you thinking?" She immediately let out a huge, melodramatic sigh. We immediately turned and walked out. A party walked in as we were leaving and she stormed out past them and tore down the open flag outside even though it was still ten minutes to closing. I hope the owners give that girl (who was "working" at 5:15 pm on Saturday 10/29/11) an attitude adjustment because she is certainly losing them business. In any case, we won't be back.

i instantly feel at home whenever i find a wine shop (or library) along my travels. Mountain Cheese & Wine has a nice open layout for browsing, selling not only wine and cheese but locally produced foodstuffs, organic treats as well as wine and cheese accoutrements. they sell Borsao, which is one of my favorites right now, though i can get it for $6.99 and they sell it for $11.99. still worth it. they have nice selection of cheeses too, and i consider myself the authority on cheese selection. it's not a vast collection but isn't just your typical gruyere and saint andre. try a little red dragon while you're there, or better yet buy that bottle of Borsao and pair it with some manchego.
