I'm a little late writing a review since I stayed here for 3 nights a few weeks ago and had a really nice time.  Breakfast was delivered to the room each day (coffee, carafe of orange juice, 2 pieces of fruit, and 2 muffins), so that was a nice start to the day.

Let's start with the relaxing stuff.  We really enjoyed the pool area.  It was serene and plenty of shade available for us fair-skinned gals who don't tan.  Every day we would go out and just read, swim, and relax in the quiet (and there was free WiFI, so I could play on my iPhone if I wanted).

The spa experience was also wonderful.  We both had the hydrotherapy mud bath, which was 20 minutes in a whirlpool with lavender scented "mud" with iced towels available.   Then 5 minutes in the steam shower and it was off to a massage for me and facial for mom.  It was a mid-week special (I think $110 each) for the 90 minutes, so that was a great deal.

The beds were comfy and the rooms were well-decorated, but they were definitely smaller than the usual room.  We were on the first floor by the parking lot on the sunny side of the building, so we pretty much had to keep our drapes closed the whole time, which probably made it feel smaller.  Closet was good size, but no light!  They did have a flat screen TV and DVD player, which were nice to have.

We went to both restaurants (JoLe and barVino) and enjoyed the food at both, but if you're only going to go to one of them go to JoLe.  (I'll be giving it a review later.)  Food, service, and food were all superb.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would go again, but we'd ask to be in a different room.  (We were on the bottom floor at the end of the hallway on the left.)

Located in downtown Calistoga, this hotel is a sweet escape from the maddening (and sometimes menacing) crowds of Napa Valley.

The hotel may have a traditional facade, but inside you'll find modern touches.  At the lobby, notice the hardwood floors, geometric pattern floor rug and seating area done in red and brown (leather) colors.

This is a two-story hotel, but there isn't an elevator available -- 2 flights of stairs is not that bad -- just make sure your hunky significant other carry your heavy bags for you.

Booked a guest room for two nights. (scout their website for specials, I locked in a total rate of $250 for two nights when they were having a buy one get second night half-off deal for a Sun-Mon stay)  The guest rooms are of average size, and is able to fit a sleep-inducing king size bed with leather headboard and crisp white linens.  Ample space in the walk-in closet to stuff all your shopping bags (!) in.

Tip:  to the people who like steaming hot showers, there isn't a vent in the bathroom. Well, at least not in the room I stayed in! (I mean, who wants the window open while taking a shower?  brrr...)  Although having Aveda's Rosemary & Mint bath products earns points with me.

There's a water station on the first floor, next to the entrance which leads to the outdoor heated pool.  (BTW, the pool area never closes)

Breakfast is free and consists of muffins, fruit, OJ, tea or coffee.

So thanks to the Mount View staff for making my stay in wine country a truly relaxing one.

I can't recommend a better place to stay!  The Mount View Hotel and Spa is honestly one of the most enjoyable places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting.  This is by far the best place to stay in Calistoga.  The location is convenient, the hotel is absolutely beautiful down to the smallest details, and the staff is friendly and accommodating.

The Mount View is located in beautiful, downtown Calistoga, on the main street, Lincoln, Ave.  You can walk (or bike) anywhere you need to go.  There are great restaurants within walking distance...
* Breakfast- Sarafornia (don't forget to sign the wall in the back of the restaurant)
* Lunch- Checkers, Buster's Southern BBQ, or pick up some sandwiches from Palisades Deli for a picnic in Pioneer Park.
* Dinner- Flat Iron, Bar Vino, Brannan's, or Checkers
* Drinks- Hydro Bar, Bar Vino, or Susie's (a fun dive bar)
* Wine Tasting- There are a few shops which offer wine tasting on Lincoln Ave, but I recommend renting a bike from the Calistoga Bikeshop and biking around to the local wineries.  If you find some wine you like, Calistoga will even pick up your wine for you and you can pick it up at the shop later on.  Beautiful trails, awesome experience!

The Mount View Hotel is beautiful and they continue to make improvements all the time.  Over the past few years they have tastefully redecorated the hotel lobby, rooms, and pool area.  It still has the feel of the historic hotel it is, but it now has a hip, upscale modern art-deco elegance.  There is an outdoor heated pool as well as an outdoor jacuzzi.  On Fridays, they have a weekly poolside winetasting.  Awesome!  Most, if not all of the rooms, also now have new mounted flat-screen tv's, dvd players, ipod clock-radios, and more.  All rooms also have free high-speed wi-fi access.  Each room I've stayed in over the years is uniquely decorated and they have each been beautiful.  Although a bit more expensive, the suites and the cottages are definitely worth the money.

Recently I went up with my mom for a mother-daughter retreat and had the pleasure of staying in the Flora Springs Suite.  Wow.  It was impressive!  It is a two bedroom suite with a queen bed and flat-screen tv in each room.  There is a shared bathroom in the middle.  What a treat!  The only caution about this room is that the sink is in the back bedroom rather than the bathroom.  I also wish it had a small refrigerator.  Still, the room was perfect for our mother-daughter getaway!

I just got back from a 2 night stay in the artist cottage with my boyfriend and all I can say is AMAZING!  I would highly recommend staying in one of the cottages.  A little pricey, but totally worth every penny.  We had a private patio/seating area, a beautifully decorated room with french doors that opened out to a private patio jacuzzi, and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.  Wine glasses are also provided in the room for that romantic evening in the outdoor jacuzzi.  This was one of the best stays I've ever had.

The staff here at the Mount View is awesome.  They really go above and beyond to make the guests feel welcome and special.  I look forward to my next visit.

P.S. The Spa is also fantastic.  If you get a massage, ask for Elva.  She gives the best massages.

P.P.S.  The MV Hotel & Spa has great weekday discounts M-Th as well as AAA discounts.  I usually try to go up during the week because it is more affordable for me, but they have deals all the time, so just make sure you check the website from time to time.

We chose Mt. View for our wedding stay, renting out 6 rooms for our group.  Cassi, the hotel manager, was amazing-- so accommodating of our requests and gracious in responding to our fewer than anticipated reservations for our block.  The weekend of the stay the staff was very friendly.  My husband and I received spa treatments that were very enjoyable, with highly professional and well-trained staff.  The hotel is a little noisy, which is the only downside.  All of the rooms are renovated and really nice-- love the decor.  Very classy.  Love the pool area and wine tasting each evening.

Love this place.  By far the best place that we've stayed in the Napa/Calistoga/Sonoma area.  Sweet, romantic, friendly, clean and all centrally located.  They often offer specials on their site, which is a nice treat.  I would recommend the little cabins with their own hot tubs for the perfect romantic weekend away from the kids:)

This place is quaint and so beautiful inside. A few months ago I took a tour and was very impressed at the way they had done the bedrooms, especially the little cottage rooms outside. The prices are VERY reasonable for what you are getting in my opinion, and especially when you compare them to other Napa Valley hotels that have as much charm as the Mount View.
I have not eaten at JoLe yet but I love BarVino. The cheese plate there is delicious!

Calistoga is all about getting a little rest and relaxation, and the Mount View Hotel ended up being perfect for our stay. The hotel is really hip and cute and right on the strip downtown, so you can wander around, peeking inside of the little shops and stopping for ice cream.

There's really no reason to leave the hotel though, when you have everything you need right there. And of course, I'm talkin' about the spa... which you can meander over to in your bath robe. We happened to be there when they were having their buy-one get one half-off massage special. Booyah!

The rooms are lovely with a flat screen TV, comfy down bed and a little sitting area. The hotel is not insanely pricey like Solage or Indian Springs, but not exactly cheap either. I think the rate is normally $219 for a queen room per night. We got lucky because we called on the same day we were arriving and they gave us 25% off! They must have had a promo going on.

Plus, they have the biggest jacuzzi I've ever seen! Sneak in late-night for a little extra tension relief.

So I guess you can say this place has charm of sorts. Things I liked included the decor of the lobby which was a not original but it was pleasant and the comfortable bed we were given. The hotel has an old feel to it partially because of the hard key one uses rather than a key card. I might not be right but to me it seemed that the hotel had been recently renovated and so the room which were small and old fashioned were now small with modern fixtures and a wall mounted flat screen. The walls and door are not thick so we could hear all the things that were going on in the hallway and the rooms around us. People were having the fun that made me blush.
I guess the charm would be the age of the building and the area.
Oh yeah, the pool was nice and refreshing, only 5 feat deep but decorated by some porcelain stag heads. We got some nice sun and enjoyed the water.
For the price of the room ($259) I would say that they need to knock down some walls and expand the room sizes.

We had a pleasant experience here.  We booked a "Taste of Calistoga" package deal that included 1-night stay, 3-course dinner for two at Bar Vino, wine tastings at two wineries, pick of Petrified Forest or Old Faithful Geyser tickets, continental breakfast in bed, and 25-min mud bath.

The hotel itself was small but clean and cute.  Modern style of decoration.  The staff was friendly and professional.  No elevators, but it seems like the hotel was only two stories tall anyway.  The room itself was on the small side, but it didn't really bother us.  Very nicely decorated and maintained.  The Aveda products were a plus.  Apparently, the breakfast delivered to your room is complimentary for all guests.  They have 4 time slots for the breakfast.  It includes two pastries, two fruits, orange juice, tea, and coffee.

The mud bath is really just a whirlpool, not the typical mud bath.  Though I was initially disappointed that it was not a true mud bath, in a way I preferred it as a whirlpool since at least I knew for sure that the water was changed prior to our session instead of having to go into the mud that had been used again and again.  Anyway, it was relaxing and the steam bath just closed the deal.

Overall, it was a good package.  I'll yelp the other pieces of the package separately, but the price was good for the things included.  We'd definitely come back.

Stayed here a little while ago for a weekend with M.  Overall a great experience.  As many of the other reviewers have stated, the location is very central in Calistoga and the place has a lot of charm and character. The massage at the spa was spectacular (and I'm not a big massage/spa guy) and the pool was very relaxing and not packed.  Within yards to all of the restaurants in town and they offer discounts to a few of them.  We stayed in a 2nd floor room and I was a bit disappointed in it.  For between $200 and $300 a night, it could have used some updating in my opinion.  Not bad though.  Go to their website to look for deals.  Good place for a Napa romantic weekend.

This is a review about the hotel, not the spa...

Overall this is a nice old hotel but its not living up to its fullest potential.  It could do with a little update and it would be perfect.

PROS:
1.  Great location on the main street in Calistoga
2.  Friendly and professional staff
3.  Quiet grounds

CONS:
1.  Antiquated window A/C units.  The windows were so small that it didn't help to open them for fresh air so you were stuck with the A/C.
2.  There was absolutely no place to hang our clothes in the closet.  One robe hook on the wall was it for the entire room.
3.  The water pressure in the shower was terrible.

Not what you expect for $300 a night.....even in Calistoga.

We enjoyed an absolutely fabulous spa experience at the Mount View Hotel and Spa. It was incredible. After we finished our first Napa dinner at JoLe, which is located within the hotel, we checked out the hotel's spa information and took notice of the hydrotherapy baths and massages. We made reservations for the next day, for a couple's package. After all the traveling we did, the bath and massages were just what we needed. If you don't want to go the way of the traditional Calistoga mud bath experience, then you should try Mount View's hydrotherapy bath, which gives you the same nutrients a real mud bath provides. Try it, and enjoy pure relaxation.

What a beautiful Hotel. The rooms were so lovely and classic. I felt like a fifties celebrity. The bathtubs sat on claws , the balcony was spacous and even though it was yucky outside the view of Calistoga and the main drag was great! The staff is very prompt and kind I had no problem with my breakfast came right on time and fresh. Muffins were warm and the juice was sweet. I didn't have any spa treatments, but it was not for want.. All around wonderful spot wonderful service wonderful hotel

I enjoyed a mud wrap, stone massage and facial at Mount View.   Over all the spa is nicely decorated and the treatment rooms are warm and comfortable.  You are welcome to spend some time at the outdoor pool or they have a sauna.  I think it was overpriced but a nice experience.

Mud Wrap:  I feel like it was not the best deal for the price.  The tech exfoliates you with scrubby gloves--which was nice--and then slops on this grape seed mud, wrapped me up like a burrito and left the room.   I think that for the price I was paying she coulda given me a little scalp massage like my friend got but I only got a little foot rub--bummer...  I liked my mud bath better at Golden Haven.

Stone Massage: very relaxing except the tech used some ice cold stones during part of the massage that took  my breath away--not in a good way!  She did warn me but it didn't make the surprise any easier to take.  Again--I liked my kick-ass massage at Golden Haven better.

Facial:  I liked the esthetician but they use dermalogica products which I think are crap!   What can I say--I'm a product snob!  Again--for the price--I expect better products.  This facial was much better than the fake one I had at Golden Haven.

Cute hotel, pleasant staff but tiny rooms!

We needed a place to stay in the Calistoga area and chose the Mount View Hotel mainly based on location and price.  After doing some searching, I was ok with paying approx $250 a night (2 night minimum) but didn't realize that our room would be the size of most walk in closets.

I did like the fact that the bathrooms were updated with modern fixtures and the room had a flat screen tv but I probably wouldn't recommend this hotel if you plan on spending a lot of time in your room. We spent the majority of our time mooching off our friends at Calistoga Ranch so for our purposes - a place to sleep and keep our stuff, the Mount View Hotel was fine.

OK. I'll be honest...I would not even give this place a one-star, if it had not been for the diligence and consideration of the hotel manager, Cassi. And the incredible touch of the aesthetician, who performed a rhythmical body treatment on me, which was so incredibly relaxing!

The service that we received when we arrived at the Hotel was so hysterically unimpressive. I was left in shock! We were spending more than $400/night for our hotel room and from the moment we arrived we experienced a number of events that was absolutely ridiculous! When you spend that much money on a hotel room, you would not expect to receive the type of treatment that we received. Heck! Even if it was half that amount, you wouldn't have expected what we went through!

I had arranged to have a masseuse come to our room so that we could have in-room massages done. This was suppose to be a surprise. Well, the room was in my friend's name, so I made it a point to tell the front desk my name and explained that a masseuse would be calling or coming by and to make sure that they direct this person to our room. I was informed prior, by the masseuse, that she would probably be coming early for the appointment to set up. When it became 15 minutes after the scheduled appointment time, I got worried. My friend had gone down to the lobby area to get some ice and overheard the guy at the front desk repeat my name and say that there was no one here by that name. When she came back upstairs, she asked if I was expecting someone and told me what happened. I quickly called down to the front desk and found out that the masseuse had called and was informed that there was no one registered in the hotel by that name! I was so upset! I had called them the day before we arrived and also informed them when I arrived, which was only half an hour prior. But still, the message did not get through! Unfortunately, I didn't have the masseuse's number because she was actually not the masseuse I had originally requested. That masseuse I had called couldn't make it out, so she recommended this other woman who was coming all the way from Sonoma to come do our in-room hot stone massages. I felt horrible that this woman had driven all the way out this way and was informed that no one was in the hotel by that name!

Another mishap was that the rooms were nothing like what we expected. They were so small and we were paying over $400/night! There was barely enough room to set up a massage table in either rooms! We had adjoining rooms that were connected by a Jack & Jill bathroom. It was called a suite, but there was no way that this could be considered a suite! There wasn't even a sitting room anywhere! Oh! And the crazy thing is that the rooms were recently renovated, but some crazy person had this nutty idea to put the sink in the far bedroom, so if you used the bathroom and wanted to wash your hands, you had to go through someone's bedroom in order to get to the sink! Even to brush your teeth! I had to be in my friend's bedroom in order to brush my teeth and wash my face! It was so nutty!

You are suppose to receive a complimentary continental breakfast the next morning in your room. So when you arrive, they have you fill out this request form to let them know what time you want the breakfast delivered. We requested 10am! Someone was knocking on my door at 6am!! Then when I went to go open the door, Lo and behold! Our breakfast consisted of 1 banana, 1 muffin and 1 coffee. I guess we were suppose to share this? It was comical! When I called down, I was told that there had been an error because someone had looked at the wrong room#. Don't worry, another breakfast would be sent, did we want coffee or tea. I went to go check with my friend, and it turned out that she had not slept all night because the heater, which we had to have on, had been making some crazy, loud noise in her room and she was unable to sleep all night. My friend informed me that she wanted coffee. We were told it would be sent right away. 30 minutes later, we received another breakfast. Mind you it is still much earlier than we intended to get up. It was nearly 7am now! And they sent us another breakfast tray with hot water, no coffee! We had to call down to the front desk again!

I was starting to feel bad about complaining, but my friend was really getting more than a little irritated! At this point, I could not stop laughing hysterically!

There are several other crazy, unbelievable mishaps that I don't even want to waste my time writing about. I am sure everyone gets the picture at this point.

The only thing that saved this review of the Hotel is the manager that did finally come to the room to try to resolve some of the issues we encountered. And the fabulous spa treatments that we received the following day after all the craziness took place. If I could go on about some of the other things that happened to us there, you would just laugh, like I did!

Meh.  This was a 2.5, but I'll give it a 3 because of a good location.

I disagree with Spartacus, the service I got was not impeccable.  It was what I expect at a MINIMUM for $215 per night - before taxes.  I picked this property because it was on the main drag, had wireless, and private bathrooms.  Due to the proximity to other buildings, a lot of the rooms are dark, or have somewhat depressing views.  I looked at four or five different rooms before picking one.  I noticed someone else was doing the SAME thing, so perhaps they should figure out why so many guests are unhappy with the first room they were assigned to at check in.  The Harlow was spacious, but you couldn't see the TV from the bed, without stretching the cord, and twisting into some sort of Yoga pose, and it looks out on an empty lot.

I ended staying in Rm 230, because it had the best overall set up, of the 4 or 5 I looked at, including a small fridge.  A decent size bathroom, and a love seat  and a little table for my laptop.  The robe was nice.  The towels alternated between fluffy and flat.  If yours suck, just ask for more.  They had Aveda bath products, but didn't replenish the ones I used the first day.  Also, the toilet paper was one ply.  I'm ok with one ply at the Super 8, but at a place like this, I expect decent tp.

The "breakfast" was a danish, a piece or two of fruit, a granola bar, coffee, and bottled oj from concentrate.  In the evening you pick a 30 min time range, and they try to deliver it within that range.  I would rather have lower prices and forage for my own food, this was nothing to write home about.

FYI - Don't forget to ask for the AAA discount, but they will want to see your card at check in.  They actually wrote down my AAA number!
Also, there's no elevator, just stairs.  When I asked they did not offer to have someone assist me with my bags.  Pack light!

Oh, and they have regular metal keys.   With the EXACT room number on it.  To me, this is not quaint.  This is dangerous.  If you're going to stick with a metal key, at least do some sort of code.

I usually hate bed & breakfasts (I swear, flowery prints make me break out in a rash) but this place is very nice. A bit flowery but not like a grandmother exploded, you know?

The room we had (202) had windows on 2 sides so it was very bright and airy. It was also at the end of a hallway so the 'sounds' of other couples was not part of our soundtrack. I'd recommend asking for any room at the end of a hallway. The street can be a bit noisy.

The spa treatment area is very very nice. If Restoration Hardware did spa treatments, that's the way they would do it. Classic design and elegant fixtures. The hydrotherapy bath was ok. The room was a bit small so it wasn't that relaxing. The massage was fantastic. If you go, make a trip to the spa a part of your stay.

Why do the terms "shabby chic" and "victorian charm" send alarms ringing in my head? This place is quaint, with some (larger and more expensive) rooms that are named after old movie stars like The Jean Harlow. Our room was small, decked out in floral glory and with a creaky bed that felt more "used" than antique or vintage. But, service was good and they deliver a simple but delicious breakfast to your room every morning at the time of your choice. Nice pool area also, but the restaurant, Stomp, was virtually empty on both the Friday and Saturday night that we were there...alarming since there was no shortage of folks in town...Needlesss to say, we avoided testing our luck. The rooms here are not cheap, so be prepared to spend big bucks to sleep in grandma's guest room.

The spa, however, is a completely different story and should get a review all its own. I'll get back to you on that one, but for now, it's fabulous and worthy of 5 stars easily.

Mud baths, massages, facials... ahhhh. But don't be fooled, this isn't the kind of spa with those 'typical' famous calistoga mud baths - thick, brown, hot, steamy... uhm.. smelling like a freshly tended summer garden. The Spa at the Mount View Hotel is more European with a country, cozy feel. Whirlpool tubs are buit for two and envelope, not thick mud, but foams of bubbles and therapeutic water. Try their signature Moor mud which dissolves into your bath like a rich capuccino or The Lavender with Dead Sea salt that soothes and cures every ailment in your body. Sure, the "thicker" mud baths are indeed soothing but for those that prefer something different, Mt. View has it.

I've never stayed in the hotel. I usually just do the day-trip thing. But I hear the rooms are classic with a touch of Victorian charm. Also heard that this historic hotel still holds the friendly spirit of one of it's original owners who clambers about when you least expect it.

My (pregnant) wife and I came here to try their spa services.  Unlucky for us, it took us 3 hours from the East Bay to get to Calistoga that day.  We missed our 80 min appt that were suppose to begin at 1pm.  We got their around 1:45.

My wife had the prenatal massage that she enjoyed.  I had the normal massage.  The massages themselves were good, probably 3.5-4 stars.

However, we heard every noise in our rooms, maintenance work, walking, talking, it just wasn't the spa environment you'd expect.

And, we were also not given any forgiveness for our appt.  We ended up getting a 60 min but had to pay for the 80min. price.

Don't think we'll be going that far north as we have many favorites in Yountville and Napa.

At the last minute we decided to attend a special event at Clos Pegase.  All the nice places in Calistoga were booked, also St. Helena and Yountville.  We decided to try this place.  My boyfriend booked on line through a site which showed rooms with a casually elegant look, a bit French country, but not overly so.
When we arrived, the decor was sort of cheap retro modern.  Hey, I'm a great fan of the look if done well.  This isn't.  I understand that they just completed a renovation, which may explain the difference in design.
It looks like they took inspiration from one of the restaurant/bars in the hotel, Barvino, which looks the same.  The problem is you can go cheap and campy modern in restaurant design, no one faults a restaurant which doesn't invest in quality decor, but you expect more from a hotel.
The first room we were given was done in a garish, red, white and black.  The second was a slightly less garish burgundy, white and black.  I work in design, so perhaps these things wouldn't bother others, but...  bad paint job, areas around the ceiling fixture and alarm detector weren't completely painted, cables stapled into the corner walls not longer in use (they were cut off at the bottom) were left there and painted, some a little burgundy, some a little white.  Black curtains, just single panel, with a white backing that hardly covered the window, reminded me of something created on Trading Spaces.  Overall a very cheaply done and poorly executed renovation.
The continental breakfast was laughable.  Each day two sticky sweet buns, no croissants, rolls or bread.  No butter or jam.  Two fruit granola bars, a banana and a sad apple.  The second day I remarked that I thought it was the same apple from the day before.  My boyfriend took a bite from it, just so it wouldn't be recycled, just in case ;)  a little bottle of orange juice and coffee.
After the first breakfast I asked the front desk if we could have something other than sticky buns and was told that it's an assortment and can't be controlled.
I should be fair and say that the pool area/hot tub was OK.
At the same price point, perhaps a little more, you can have such a wonderful experience in Calistoga.  Unfortunately, my favorite B&B in Calistoga, the Chanric was booked, so was everything else...

Service at the hotel is impeccable.  The Decor is very feminine; think country meets victorian.  Spa employees are amazing;  however the mud bath isnt really a "mud" bath - more of a whirlpool of muddy water infused with lavender.  If you can take time off during the week, they have great hotel/spa packages for resonable prices.  Perfect girlfriend getaway.

The location was great for a weekend getaway.  I would love to recommend staying in one of the cottages, but the lumpy bed in cottage 102 was so uncomfortable that it almost ruined the weekend.  That said, the cottage was very cute and included a private outdoor jacuzzi tub for two which we used both days.  It was great being in close proximity to a well-stocked market, a variety of non-chain restaurants and some quaint shops.  If they updated the mattresses, I'd definitely consider staying there again.
