My wife brought me here for my Father's Day dinner (she has to work Sunday) after years of putting it off.  Tres chic!  Portion sizes were about what you'd expect from someplace as trendy as this, and plated decently.  Nice selection of beers (though lacking in the nut browns) and I enjoyed some Turbodog.  Our waitress was extremely pleasant, as was the gentleman I spoke with earlier in the morning when making our reservation.

Because their menus are changed daily and from lunch to dinner, their hours are limited and they're between meals.  Call ahead to verify the dining hours because when he was explaining it to me they varied somewhat from day to day.

As far as the atmosphere, I was hoping for more of a throwback to the name/history of the building, but it was pretty abstract.  Going in that direction, for as small as the seating area is, I thought the lighting could have been dimmed down a bit.

I had a bowl of creamy asparagus soup followed by the sauted domestic (Charleston) white shrimp tossed in a sweet three pepper relish on a bed of - not pilaf, but rice done in a creamy style with a flavor I've never had before - all of which was superb!

My wife (who started with steamed P.E.I. mussels in a white wine broth finished with fennel pollen and followed that up with seared New Zealand rack of lamb over mixed greens, exotic mushrooms, sweet onions and tossed in a brown sugar-mustard vinaigrette) is already making plans to return...

Went here for brunch and all I can say is YUM!! I ordered the crab cakes w/ grits and they were delicious! Bloody Mary was excellent as well. I loved the atmosphere in this place and the wait staff was super friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back as I really want to try out their dinner menu!

Wow they serve some darn good food at Motor Supply Co.

A friend and I visited on a recent Friday evening. The restaurant was pretty packed, though we made reservations ahead of time. Despite showing up somewhat tardy, they greeted us with a smile and showed us promptly to our table.

We split the following items:
Golden beets/Arugula Salad
Steamed PEI Mussels
Wreckfish with their tomato sauc sofrito and green beans and rice
For dessert: an excellently prepared Creme Brulee

We also sampled a few wines from their decent selection:  the Simi Chardonnay and the Hall Sauvignon Blanc.

The service was great and completely unobtrusive, and the restaurant had a great relaxed and cozy vibe without feeling stuffy or pretentious given the high quality of the food.

All in all a great evening. Definitely ranks among the top food destinations in Columbia.

The pan filet served over mashed potatoes was excellent. The valet at our hotel told us about this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Next time in town I plan on bringing the whole family.

Motor Supply is a little gem in Columbia, SC, it could compete with any restaurant anywhere.  Our first visit we had a charcuterie plate with lardo.  I couldn't believe it.  The only place I have ever been offered lardo was in Italy.  Our dinner was so delicious that evening we ate their again the next evening also.  I was with one of my dearest friends that our whole friendship is based on eating and the occasional cocktail (HA), we have never eaten at the same restaurant two days in a row.  It is that great and the menu changes daily!  A couple of weeks ago, I was in Columbia  again and I dropped by on Sunday morning, minutes before they even opened, they let us in, no problem.   We had a gorgeous smoke salmon platter and bloody marys.  Breakfast of Champions.

Ate there on a Thursday night during spring break. Not crowded at all, great atmosphere.  Was very impressed with their wine and more importantly, their beer selection. Not the usual over-done Bud and Miller products..but a good array of regional and microbrew selections.

The menu is great. We like the fact they change it daily, more restaurants need to do this. Keeps things fresh. I had the Charleston Sheepbrain.. was terrific. Our waiter was attentive and very helpful. We ate on the patio, and loved it. Go there now, you won't regret it.

Really love to eat at Motor Supply. Have been going there for years when I'm in town and my local friends all love it too. Menu changes daily so you never get bored with the food. Very good food.

Back in the area for Christmas, and looking for a good spot to reconnect with old friends, I decided to give Motor Supply a try.  The first thing that surprised me was the location.  Growing up in the area years ago, this was one of the least likely places to expect to find good dining as the whole area was a bunch of seedy warehouses and abandoned buildings, overgrown with countless railroad sidings.  Now the area has reinvented itself  as the Congaree Vista and is pretty well the place to go for good dining and nightlife.

First impressions are important, and Motor Supply started well.  We arrived to find a tiny parking lot and valet parking (which annoys me to no end-- I'm going to spend a good chunk inside, don't hit me up outside also).  I asked if there was non-valet parking close by, and to my surprise was told I could just take any of the spaces I wanted.  Now there's a good start.

As soon as we walked in, I was fairly certain Motor Supply was a good call.  One doesn't usually get bad food from a kitchen with aromas such as I was now enjoying; I jut got a lot hungrier.

The three of us went different ways in our ordering and were all well pleased with our results.   I enjoyed a great daikon, orange, and almond salad with incredibly fresh greens (in the middle of winter, no less), followed by a huge pork porterhouse with smoked pecan marmalade, done perfectly, very moist, still with a touch of pink (those of you who insist on cooking pork until its completely white have so much to learn!), all topped off with an excellent , quite tart, key lime pie.

There were also a couple of well-enjoyed beef tenderloins and a really flavorful ginger shrimp satay.

Service was attentive, yet unobtrusive.  And it was nice to see that someone still recognizes that positioning of silverware on the plate signifies when one is done.

All in all, Motor Supply was a good choice, and certainly warrants a return visit.  My only real complaint was that the drinks are poured too lightly.  Both my gin and tonic before dinner, and my Knob Creek after were only about half a glass, and that after the glass was filled to the brim with ice.

This ain't no auto body shop, that's for sure!   I think this is probably the best restaurant in Columbia.  It's situated in a renovated ancient auto parts warehouse, all made over for great ambience.  An ever changing menu with really fresh food and fresh ideas about food.  I had a wonderful piece of beef here.Very French influenced food, but lots of other flavors like Thai and Japanese make their way onto the menu.  It may be the only place qualified to use the word Bistro within 200 miles.

Motor Supply is probably one of 5 restaurants in Columbia which I would give 4 stars to.  I usually eat there about once a month for lunch.  The service is excellent.  The food is superb.

I highly recommend it.
