MotionZ is a laser tag arena - one of the best I've ever played (and I try them everywhere I go!)
Run by a VERY nice couple, MotionZ is quite family-friendly.
It is a great drug free, alcohol free zone for fun. Lots of birthday parties are held here, and any given game could be full of 10 year old girls or just 17 year old members.
There are always just as many women who play as men. The staff are smart, clean cut, and helpful. I've never seen anyone be disrespectful to anyone in all the times I've ever played here, no matter how old they were.
This is not an intimidating place - I've been to some laser tag arenas that were! - but MotionZ strives to make it very accessible to everyone.
I also appreciate that they built a viewing balcony where people who aren't playing can watch a section of the arena. Very nice feature!
The games are nice and long, the arena huge - it's multi-leveled with lots of good hiding spots without being maze-like.
The packs and guns function excellently. Good music and volume (they even have live bands perform on the balcony on weekends!). Cafe offers pizza, soda, etc.
They have themed party rooms for rent, very cute for parties.
Video games, air hockey available - pinball, crazy taxi, etc.
Good score sheets with lots of details.
Computer screen actually shows scores as game is happening - for someone watching, you can see what's going on score-wise without being the arena.
Ability to be a member (for $15/yr I think), in which you can choose your own pack name, play member only games and particpate in "lock ins" and get discounts on games.
They often run specials like Wednesday ladies night 1/2 off price, etc.
I appreciate that there is always a guard on duty to maintain the safety expectations of this family oriented establishment.
It's located in a mall, so you can even get a coffee or See's candy in between games.
If you've never played laser tag before, think of it as "tag with a flashlight" - you have a pack with sensors on your shoulders, back, chest, and gun. There are three teams and you shoot at the other teams as you WALK around the arena. If you're hit, you are "out" for 5 seconds. Unlike paintball, you're never "out", and it never hurts! Running is absolutely never allowed. Games are always different, depending on who's playing and how many are playing. I've played games with only three of us in the arena and games with 30. Tons 'o fun, any way you play!
We used MotionZ for a birthday party a couple of years ago, and were very satisfied. The price was better than a party at a pizza or game place, the food was better, and there was excellent service. We always had someone helping with the food and cleaning, and we even had someone take the gifts to the car for us.
MotionZ is in a converted movie theater, so there is much more room than you'd think of with a convention mall storefront. The place was nice and clean and the people friendly. There were infrared cameras to keep an eye on what happened in the darkened playing areas.
