Mother's is the perfect example of a bar where everyone knows your name.  Every time I come here, the bartenders are helpful, friendly and the atmosphere is super relaxed.

It's never super crowded, even on a Saturday night, which is such a nice treat from all the insane, annoying bars in the area.  Sometime a person just wants to sit down, enjoy a good beer and eat a juicy hamburger.

That's exactly what you'll get here.  With only wine and beer, you're guaranteed to find a top selection of either.  Their beer list is well thought-out and seasonal.  Go somewhere else for a crappy bud...

The food is great too - hamburgers, bison burgers, fish sandwiches and really amazing fries.  Perfect bar food to compliment a delicious pint of perfectly kept beer.

Yup, Mother's is like coming home, but better.

I like this place--a bit mellower than Union Pool or wherever, and if you go on a weekday night you can usually find a table easily.  The burgers are good, though they get a little dry and charred when they're cooked beyond medium.  (You might want to ask them to go easy on the salt.)

I appreciate that they have Gaffel Kolsch, too, in the special gold-rimmed glass.

Hopefully when you go, this new-seeming British bartender will be there, who's very friendly and chatty.  She told me about her interesting theory about men serving champagne to women in flute glasses, because it gets them drunk faster.

This place is kind of creepy if you aren't a hipster.  My boyfriend and I walked in and had quite a few sets of hipster eyes look up at us.  After the initial stare, the awkwardness wore off.

I've been looking for a good cheap burger in Brooklyn.  The price was good, but the burger was a little too salty.

I've been here every so often and I freakin love their Tilapia Sandwich. However, Mother's forte is their fries. Both the sweet potato and regular fries are amazing and you can not go here without getting some.

Just a note on the Tilapia Sandwich--I find it kinda spicy and always ask for it without whatever sauce they use.

Very cozy dive-bar. They have a backyard, but it's just an okay backyard.

My only complaint is the beer selection seems to lean towards really hoppy or wheaty beers and I'm kinda more of a basic lager type of gal. This is hardly a big complaint though, because they always have at least one beer I like on tap.

I really liked this little bar and grill.  The place has a simple little menu on a chalkboard that serves up a mean cheeseburger and side of sweet potato fries.

Even more surprisingly, this place has a great tap selection (Lagunitas, Victory, tasty IPAs, etc.).  I had the seasonal Oktoberfest, among others...

This place has gone so far down hill. I waited 30 minutes at 11 pm for a cheese buger. I paid $3 for hand cut fries and got soogy skinny pre-fozen luke warm fries. $10 for buger and fries is cheaper than some but it shouldn't be awful.

Bad soogy food.   They need to pay thier cooks more money and get people who care some.

I must first start in praise of the Tilapia sandwich. It was by far the best tilapia sandwich I have ever had, and one of the freshest tastiest fish sandwiches I have had in NYC in general. Super fresh off the grill, not frozen reheated, with nice seasoning and flavors all around. The sheer awesomeness of this sandwich was a wonderful surprise . I dont expect perfection at 2 AM at a bar I've never been to, but I got it in this sandwich.

They had a good list of craft beers on tap, my IPA wasn't the freshest  as can happen with beers at a place with maybe too many kegs going at the same time, but it wasn't the worst I've had. Nice cozy little place, definitely a tolerable vibe, has a sort of quaint feeling. I'd be interested in going again to scope out the beer scene here. They definitely put effort into the tap list. Not exactly a craft beer nerd out place, but they do have good craft available.

The 'burg is brimming over with overpriced, gimmicky  burgers. When you're in the mood for a classic, not fast food, but not fancy-schmancy-organic-chic burger, head to Mother's.

Mother's serves burgers with thin patties. Got that? THIN PATTIES. So if you're one of those carnivores that prefers the oozy, thick, rare-in-the-middle burger variety, Mother's might disappoint.

I, however, thought the burger was great. While it's not super-thick, it's not small by any means. Fries were good, too.

All in all, a great spot for simple satisfying food and beer to boot.

    Wow! What an unexpected surprise!

Sitting in the backyard of this place literally feels like you're sitting outside your Mother's house. It's SO cute and cuddly - like a newborn puppy. But then it's also full of really hot chain-smoking hipsters. Can we say GOLDMINE?!

My burger was seriously delicious and served with a yummy chipotle mayo. And my beer (usually not a beer fan) was actually quite tasty as well! It was a white ale with orange and fennel flavors - totally unique and really enjoyable.

I will DEFINITELY be back. Sit ouside for a burger and a beer and you won't be sorry!

I ate here with my boyfriend recently. The burgers were good. The fries were yummy, and the beer that I had was good.

This seems like a solid neighborhood choice-- not too pricey, good burgers-- but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again since I don't live close by.

I came here for brunch and ended up getting a cheeseburger special anyway. While the sweet potato fries are good, I think their burgers made my bf and I feel sick afterwards. I literally felt like I had a rock in my stomach and was in pain a few hours later after eating here. We didn't eat anything else before we got sick, so I'm guessing it had to be the burgers.

Our server/ bartender also didn't know how to pour a Guinness properly which made me very sad. I live only a few minutes away from here, and was excited when I heard everyone ranting about this place.

The prices are alright, and I will give this place another chance. Hopefully by then they learn how to cook a burger and pour a Guinness.

I really wanted to give Mothers 5 stars, I really truly did. The fries (both the sweet potato and regular) are seasoned to perfection and the selection of alcoholic beverages is pretty great too.

Just one tip - if you want your customers to come back, don't accidentally serve the vegetarian at the table a bison burger.

Nice bar with a little (and I mean little) backyard area. You can fit 10 small tables out there I think, and we were lucky to get one.

Not an extensive menu, they have burgers & fries, maybe a few other things that fit into "bar food" category. I got a veggie burger and it was delicious! My bf liked his bacon cheeseburger. The fries were thin and salty, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  Apparently the bison burger is good too.

Some nice beers on tap too. The waiter service was weird. You order at the bar, bring your beers out back and someone brings your food out, but you can't order another beer from your table?

Fun place to stop for a beer and some food. I'd do it again.

Home can mean a lot of things. A childhood room, the smell of freshly cut grass, a teddy bear, being in the arms of the one you love. It's a distinct feeling that cannot be created or faked, only something allowed to be developed naturally and uniquely for each of us. It's love, ease, reliability, and sincerity. It even seems tangible in just how real it is, as though it's something you can grab a hold of and put in your pocket to keep with you.

For some, our dreams pull us from our homes, plucking us from our comfort zones and little bubbles. And a dream is exactly what it is- a free-floating illusion, something far off in the distance and evolving. Initially fueled by the rush of uncertainty, the concept of home seems to be put on the back burner, becoming missed and longed for. Dreams, in reality, are everything that homes are not.

For those of us not from here, New York City is a tough place to call home because it is the resting place of dreams. It is initially just where we work, where we go out, and where we say we live. The word "home" feels uncomfortable off our lips.

But it slowly becomes home, one of a different kind, one where home and dreams can coexist, and that is really what makes New York so special - we find home in our dreams here. It is the people, the culture, the art, and the music. It's the smiles, the buy-backs, the comfort food, and the conversations. It's the meeting place, the neighbors, the nightcaps, and the memories.

And it's the fuckin' bomb-ass sweet potato fries.

Totally underwhelmed.  I was the only one there at 7:00 on a Thursday night.  Okay, it was freezing out, so I don't blame them for that.  The tilapia sandwich was tiny and there were hardly any fries to speak of.  One beer and out.  I didn't want to stick around.

On a side note, a guy came in asking for a take-out menu.  Well, they don't have a menu, but they do offer take-out service.  Ah hum.  Okay, so the guy asked for their phone number so he can call-in orders in the future.  The bartender didn't know the phone number.  Furthermore, he couldn't even find the number for him.  Poor form.

Again with the beautiful decor in Brooklyn bars. Mother's has really dark, rich wood trim, a "tin" ceiling, a wall of framed mirrors and it looks swank and sophisticated as shit. On a Friday night it wasn't crowded and we easily found a seat by the window where I admired and pawed at the Nygrd Ascot velvet floral curtains for the duration of my stay.

I ordered a veggie burger with swiss cheese and sweet potato fries and I almost burst into tears a few times suspecting that my burger was real meat - apparently I'm not the first person to think this. Regardless, the combo was convincing, juicy and mighty tasty for only $8!

    Seriously lovin' this place lately.

It is nothing extremely special, nothing that stands out....but it is a quaint little joint on Graham that has a great beer list, pretty good wines and DELICIOUS sweet potato fries. The food is very cheap... fries, $2; sweet pot fries, $3; hamburger, $5. I've only ever had the fries, but from what I hear the burger leaves people coming back for more. The inside is decked with dark wood, a bunch of mirrors, funky-comfy chairs and they even a small lil' patio out back.

I moved into this hood 2 months ago - and every week seem to find myself choosing this place to meet up with people. Seriously relaxed, good times happen here.

This place is decent. They have a pretty nice patio and very nice brunch prices. I really like the decor and the charmingly bewildered daytime bartender dude.

I've had brunch here twice, (I ordered the omelette both times). The first time around, the food was great. A perfect greasy delicious hangover cure. The second time, my eggs were just plain overcooked and gross. My fries and corn muffin were consistently good both times in case you were wondering. If they served liquor I'd probably go ahead and award them four stars despite the crunchy egg incident. But they don't. So I can't.

When Mighty Diamond closed, my boyfriend & I were in mourning for a few weeks. It had been one of our favorite places to eat, and it was gone. When a bar opened, we were skeptical. Does Williamsburg really need another bar? Does it?

Well yes, apparently it does. One like Mother's, that serves delicious, affordable burgers AND sweet potato fries! I'm a carnivore and my boyfriend is a vegetarian, and we were both so happy with our meals (he had the veggie burger) that we went back a second time that week.

The staff is very friendly -- I recognize some faces from Mighty Diamond -- and they have a nice selection of beer on tap. Nice atmosphere, pretty furnishings, and they still have the backyard which is a huge plus!

I definitely still miss Mighty Diamond (have I mentioned that place enough yet?) but if it had to be another bar in its place, I'm glad it's Mother's.

This place just has something right about it.  It just feels good to be in.

The good food and beer certainly helps that.

The burgers seem to have once been frozen patties, but have been reincarnated as perfectly cooked, black-on-the-outside while pink-on-the-inside, nicely accessorized burgers.  Love the chipotle mayo.  Love the sweet potato fries.

But mostly, I love the $3 half-glass Gaffel Kolsch, and the fact that if you order two they only charge you $5, the price of 1 full glass.  Beers are best in half sizes, that way they are always cold, top to bottom, then you get a fresh one.  Plus I love Gaffel Kolsch!

One request to you, Mother's.  Turn off the sports and start a movie night on weeknights; I will be there!

This bar started out so well - the food was decent and the backyard area was chill. Recently though the bartenders have become kind of condescending, the customers have become more and more annoying and the last two times I was there the food was totally inedible and I ended up paying about 10 bucks for something that I couldn't finish 1 bite of (and I really tried.)

A brand new bar on Graham Avenue, right off the L train subway stop.  Currently seemingly limited to beer and wine (including mulled wine), they have about a dozen beers on tap, and a short menu of pub grub - burgers (veggie, cow, and bison), fish, and sweet potato and regular fries.  The beer selection is pretty good, prices for the beer are about average for the area.  The food is so-so; decent fries, but clearly just a mass produced burger, nowhere near what Spike Hill Grill or Dumont would give you.

Give them a few more weeks to get on their feet, and maybe get their full liquor license, and this place will be a primo hangout in no time.

pros: They got the sweet potato fries perfect. This was the reason we chose Mother's over some other Williamsburg joint in the first place. Also, burgers can't hurt.

cons: The burgers were kind of small. Sadness. And it was quite dark inside. I couldn't see my friends and for some reason ended up talking much louder.

overall: Don't get me wrong; any quality dinner under 10$, even one in the dark, would be worth it. If your appetite is only average or smallish, then this place would fill the bill. Otherwise, eat an early dinner and come to Mother's later to eat and drink away.

If Mother's upped their burger ante, this place would get five stars, to be sure.  It's a great location, nice interior (good lighting, tin ceilings, dark wood benches and tables), and c.h.e.a.p.: $10 for a burger and a beer?  Don't mind if I do.

The problem is, you totally get what you pay for - at least as far as the burger goes.  I got the veggie burger, which was a burger-style patty that seemed to come out of a frozen food aisle.  Extra pluses for good fresh fixin's (lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, chipotle sauce) - but the patty was pretty lackluster.  The fries, however, were delish.

Considering that the bar is residing in Mighty Diamond's old spot (and seems to have employed some of their staff), one would hope that the meatless options would be above average.  It definitely has a lot of promise as the neighborhood hangout, but I'll probably stick to drinking their beer for now.

I like it here. I'm not a fan yet but it can change. It's chill and they serve Bison burgers. Whoop whoop!  Major stars for that!  They also have a nifty selection of beer.  I think they dropped the prices of the burgers too. So yay!

The downfall is this. WTF is up with the cold bun from C-town?  You're selling a Bison burger and a lovely Tilapia sandwich for pete's sake.  Get some decent buns and warm them up a bit.  Mine was either sitting near a window sill or fresh out the fridge. Not cool.

Other than that, my ass seems to be ok with the bar stools so I'll be back again.  Bartenders are nice too.

Mothers is the best burger in the hood as far as I'm concerned. It is great for what it is - a neighborhood hang bar with good burgers and fries. The brunch is an awesome deal too - I think you get a free drink + meal for ~$10. The menu is small, but the food is decent with a touch of innovation.

The owners and staff obviously take pride in their bar because I could easily see it slipping into dive status, but they keep it clean and cutely decorated, and the outdoor patio, while nothing fancy, gets the job done if you want to grab a cheap burger and beer after work. For the price it can't be beat. The staff is also very attentive - the last time I was there I was carrying food and drinks for 2 out to the patio and trying to open the door - which I could have done, but it may have been a disaster, and one of the bartenders came over and opened the door for me of his own accord. So nice. Now if only they would add nachos to their menu...

My friend recommended Mother's and god am I glad he did.  He sold me on the idea of a bison burger.  Reasonably priced at $7 and an extra $1 for cheddar cheese.  The burger was wonderfully cooked.  I was a little worried that the burger was gonna be dry since bison is such a lean meat, but it was nice and moist.  The burger came with a chipotle mayo that was smoky with a little spice and complimented the burger perfectly.  Also split a basket of fries for $3 and they were nice and crispy.  Top that off with a good beer selection and friendly staff.

I saw they had an outdoor area but it was raining and never checked it out.  Only complaint is their single bathroom.  Other than that, gravy!  Definitely one of the better burgers I've had in a long while.

Personally, I really enjoyed my experience at Mother's. Its nothing to write home about, but you certainly get the feeling that it has a good following of locals that call it their own.

The atmosphere of this place is quaint and it has a modest menu that serves tasty burgers at reasonable prices. The sweet potato fries are a winner...

    It's good, and cheap!

I was really excited about this place especially because I had been hoping for this exact type of establishment would open in my neighborhood. The menu looked great and the prices looked even better. I walked in and sat down...I have to say, the drink prices were even higher than at Harefield Rd, which was quite a disappointment (though, my mulled wine WAS delicious). The interior is really cute and the staff was really nice.

My veggie burger was a disappointment. I didn't go out to eat only to be served a boca burger. I can go home and have my condiments of choice and defrost my own boca burger.  Id rather hop on the bus and go to Enid's down the street where they're still making a mean veggie burger from scratch (served with a side or 2!!) or hop on on the L train to Bedford and go to Mugs for their delicious home made Veggie Burger....Get a clue from bar and grills that have been around for years.

Maybe next time Ill just get a side of fries for $3 and mulled wine for $6, and grab a slice at Tony's...

Burgers are simple in their yumness and the chipotle mayo is a nice extra touch. Gotta love anyplace where you can get a basket of sweet potato fries and sit for 3 hours watching a basketball game without being disturbed!

I've been in my usual winter-induced coma for the last few months, which has kept me from experiencing much that my new Brooklyn nabe has to offer (and consequently, writing reviews on Yelp).  But it's spring break, bitches, so I've been out and about this week!

Wanted to leave a review of Mother's because I've been dying to try this place.  I find the Graham Ave stop where I currently reside to be very lackluster in the food department, unless you're into having Carmine's for the eighth time this week, so I was excited to have a chill burger bar open up right down the street.

I was even more excited when I walked in and saw that they were FIVE DOLLARS!  Holla!  I could get a cardboard footlong from Subway, or I could eat a greasy burger from Mother's for the same price.  Sweet.

I found it to be a pretty standard burger; meaning, not the best I've tasted, and certainly not the worst.  The basket of fries was delicious and the bartender was prompt with the beer.  Nothing truly remarkable about the place, but I'll settle for average in this case.  And I'll be back often in the hopes that it gets even better.
