While working in Staten Island I was looking for a place to have some great dessert, when I came upon Mother Mousse.

What some people do with cheesecake flavors this place does in mousse. What you can expect is a velvety, creamy and flavorful mousse that makes you wonder why there are not more places that specialize in mousse type deserts.

Make sure to check out the funny cartoons on the wall of this place. All of them are a gag on the Mother Goose tales, except it's told from the Ma Mousse (Moose) perspective. A great place to bring kids for a great dessert though you can get anything to go because they are shaped like cupcakes. Wish I could go again.... sadness....

Everyone in Staten Island comes here to get cakes/dessert for big family/church or whatever events.

I've tried various cakes from here and they're all so good!

My mom bought me rainbow cookies from here once while she bought a cake for some church event she had, because those are my favorite. Needless to say, I enjoyed it very much.

Great place for desserts. Would recommend trying it.

When my friend said they were craving Rainbow cookies (aka 7-layers), I understood, but when my friend said the ones from Mother Mousse were the best my jaw hit the floor. MM wasn't even Italian, what did they know about cookies? But boy was I wrong (and that doesn't happen often).

The store itself - Pretty large, showcase is very neat, and girls behind the counter super helpful and patient (I can be annoying after the 26th question). The specialty cakes they had on display were very cute (toppled over super big cupcakes), when you order those type of large cakes you get to sit on the one table to the left and discuss all your hopes and dreams (on the cake) with an expert.

Everything you buy gets put in these thick, non-flimsy boxes and than tied with huge ribbon (it was purple that day, I am not sure if you could request a color, the line was building behind me and I had no time to ask anything else haha). If you are a guy and maybe you messed up lately in your relationship or your girl has been sad, the box alone looks so old-fashioned any girl is bound to turn that frown upside down (what girl doesn't like getting sweets too come on). Vice versa for the ladies, guys like to get treated nice sometimes too I suppose...

Rainbow cookies - DELICIOUS! The difference in these cookies compared to a real deal Italian bakery is they actually seem to be thicker (less squeezed down) and easily pulled apart so you can eat them by layer instead of biting right into the cookie. They also were definitely moist and surprisingly fresh especially for midweek.

Kitchen Sink cookies - 1 dollar each and worth every penny.. I am not sure what's inside but I know I really like it... this is the cookie I would crave if I was having a bad day, This is also a cookie made for me, I am a Libra I cannot for the life of me decide on anything especially a type of cookie, so the EVERYTHING in it cookie is perfect!

Specialty Cartoon & Sports cookies - We have all seen it before, those Sponge bob cookies sitting lonely on top of bagel store counters just waiting for screaming kids to beg their parents for them, well MM has a ton of different choices, types, and shapes. While these are beautiful to look at and give as a cute gesture to someone, they don't really taste good. Than again I tasted the Yankees cookie, and the Yankees always put a bad taste in my mouth... go Mets :)

the black and white cake is a must-try.
My family and I always get pastries and cake from here!
I'm surprised how much my mother loves the cakes; she usually hates cakes!

I love love love the Fresh Fruit with Vanilla Pastry Cream cake. I come from Philly just to get it. My friend brings them to me every time she comes to see me. I had one this week for my pre-birthday celebrations, and I will have one in 2 weeks on my official birthday!

    Yeah, they are that good.
    Worth the tolls and gas.

Their chocolate mousse cake is out of this world.  Absolutely delicious.  My friends always get the cake from here for everyones birthday and it never gets old.  Never.  None of them mind  lugging it on a bus into NYC to bring into the office.  That definitely says a lot I think. My girlfriend even got her wedding cake from here.

Their chocolate mousse cake is worth a trip to Staten Island.

They make the best red velvet cake that I've had in years! I am also loving their mini chocolate cake with white mousse that I bought for a coworker because it was gluton free and only cost $4 and I ended up buying one myself cause it was to die for!!! Mousse is now one of my favorite bakeries.

This review is based on the 2-3 pieces of Mousse cake I had at my coworker's mini bridal shower party. Because I did not have to encounter the staff, pay for it, or carry it myself...I have no reason to rate any of that.

HOWEVER,after the taste of this amazingly delicious mousse cake, I think I will consider trekking to Staten Island myself to order a cake for a big occasion. Mind you, last time I voluntarily went to Staten Island was 7-8 years ago.

I'm not a dessert person.  I'm the type of girl that would rather eat dessert first and end with an appetizer.  Savory has always been my thing.  Except when it comes to Mother Mousse.

Mother Mousse is one of the last few GOOD things that Staten Island has to offer.  When we have family gatherings in other boroughs, we usually bring MM for dessert because everyone loves it.  My mom picks up 2 cakes: the triple decker mousse cake and the strawberry shortcake.  I don't think I've ever even tried the strawberry shortcake because I dunk my face into that mousse cake right away.

I'm not sure what the three layers are exactly.  There's definitely a chocolate layer and I think the other two are cappuccino and vanilla.  Or mocha.  I don't even know but I don't care!  The bottom layer is chocolate cake so that the cake isn't all mush.  So good!

On occasion, my mom also picks up "mosquitos" (I think that's what they're called) for my aunt.  I think they're like, individual mousse dessert, like the size of a cupcake.

They have a one of a kind mousse cake and fantastic cupcakes among other things. I have a tough time choosing a cake or sweets when I get there. The staff is friendly and nice too.

I like in Brooklyn and I travel to SI just for their birthday cakes. I am still dreaming of their whipped cream cake, with fresh berries. It tastes home made and that says alot coming from a family of bakers. Everything I have ever had here is absolutely delicious and the prices are fair also for the quality and size. Definitely worth the trip!
