It was clean, secure and reasonably quiet, which is all I ask of a hotel when I am at a conference. There's a pretty nice Safeway and a 24-hour drug store a block away. There is a bus that will take you to Chinatown or to the Metro.
Warning to out-of-town visitors -- this hotel is right across the street from Walter Reed. The neighborhood is an oasis of okay-ness in an iffy area. I would not recommend late-night walks or bus rides. I went there with my eyes open knowing the city, but if you're not familiar, you should take a taxi, and the taxi drivers are a little reluctant to go out there as it's not close and they are wary of picking up there.
However, I would definitely stay here again.
