19 reviews for Motel 6
I stayed here the first night on my road trip up the coast. Since I was going solo, I looked for something that was cheap, yet nice. This fit the bill perfectly!
It was $45 a night, which is great in this area. The room was clean and big, ans ti seemed that the carpet was new. It's right across the street from the beach so you can walk across the street and watch the sunset. It's also walking distance to Manta Rey Restaurant and a 5 minute drive to Hearst Castle. The location and price were excellent.
My only complaints would be that the blanket was a bit thin and the fan in the bathroom was a bit loud.
So this place is perfect for a person on a budget!

Came here on a one night stay at San Simeon. Upon checking in, we were amused by the crazy bed cover colors. Motel 6 does simple things very well. The rooms were clean, decorations were utilitarian, the rooms walls were thing as expected. The bathrooms were also just fine. But for under $50/night, we had the right expectation and Motel 6 met it. Thanks for leaving the lights on for us Tom Bodet. Oh yeah, I don't know if this is standard practice, not but hair dryers. Bring your own.
First off I want to thank my fellow Yelpers for the good reviews on this Motel! I decided to stop here for a night on my way to Half Moon Bay and I choose this particular Motel 6 due to the yelp reviews.
The location of the Motel was perfect! Check in was easy and fast, front desk was super friendly and we were given internet access for 24 hours for $2.99, not to shabby!
The room was super clean and big enough for two. Bed was comfy compared to other Motel 6's iv'e been to. My doggie loved the hotel. Only one thing is I had to adjust the cable cord because my tv reception was very hazy, but I fixed it so no biggie, still deserves 5 stars, so weird that i'm giving a motel 5 stars! Check out was easy and fast too. I brought my own comforter because one yelper said it get's chilly at night and their comforters are very thin, Thank you fellow yelper I needed that advice, it was chilly and my comforter came in handy!
I would gladly return here for $44.00 a night plus $5.00 extra for the hubby what a steal!! (That was a Monday night rate 09/01 -09/02)

I'm not a big fan of Motel 6, even though they'll "leave the light on for you," but this location wasn't half-bad. I stayed here one year while visiting Hearst Castle for a couple of days/nights, but I didn't feel extremely safe (dim lights in the parking lot, etc.). The maid service was great; my room was always clean when I came back for the evening. There weren't many restaurants to eat at back then and I don't think it's changed all that much, but hey, it was a place to stay and my main focus was the Castle!

Stayed here one night after checking with quite a few of the other motels alongside this one with prices ranging from $130 and beyond. Got the cheapest rate here considering the season, its location and proximity to the beach, just across the street from the beach, and not even a solitary slow walk of ten minutes though need to cross a very busy highway with NO traffic lights nor crosswalk, but wasn't a problem. Room was huge though didn't like Motel 6's policy of NO free wifi ($3 access card), PLUS in this particular motel, some rooms can receive wifi and others not. Big parking lot. No frig nor microwave but several restaurants and cafes of all price range(s) and type food within minutes, plus motel guests can pick up a 10% discount coupon when checking in to eat at the restaurant located next to the office. Room was very clean and designated NO SMOKING (yaaay). Water pressure in bathroom was good, with sink out of the bathroom itself.

This is definitely not the typical Motel 6.
Clean and affordable. It gave me hope! We had booked another Motel 6 in Santa Barbara for our road trip down south. This was roomy and clean. I was disappointed there was only a bar of soap in the room. No hair dryer !!!! I lived without it. But hey it was only about $50/night.
There definitely was a very musty smell in the hallways. I had to prop the hallway door open with a garbage can just to ventilate the hallway.
I would stay here again and bring my own hair dryer.
If you shop carefully, it's possible to stay here, in a hotel with pretty nice restaurant, a view of the Pacific Ocean, and within spitting distance of Hearst Castle, for under 40 dollars per night.
I'd call that a heck of a deal for the California Coast.
Oh my goodness - I just gave a Motel 6 five stars! I have to say, this place certainly surprised me. The first thing I did when I checked in was to search every corner and crevice, and bedding, for bugs or filth. It was so clean I couldn't find a thing to complain about to my husband. The ADA accessible rooms are AMAZING!!!!!! I didn't even book an accessible room, but they offered it to me upon check-in and I was astonished at their to-the-T ADA compliance. As an ADA compliance analyst for my local city, I'm impressed and commend Motel 6 for their efforts.
The room was huge, with ample turn around space on all sides of the beds, including in between the two double beds. The bathroom was one of the largest bathrooms I've ever used in my life. There were grab bars everywhere, roll under sinks with effective pipe wrapping, roll-in shower with a permanent affixed (although foldable) shower bench, and a center adjustable and removable shower head. The shower bench was not very slippery when wet, and water barely went out of the shower area keeping the bathroom relatively dry and slip-free.
Staff here seemed quite nice, although we did not interact a great deal. A pool is available in the back, but it was much too cold to check it out. For $65/night for two adults, this is definitely a steal. It isn't amazing luxury, but it's affordable and great for a limited stay.
My only complaints: the water pressure was so low that I felt like I was showering under a drip faucet; there was no hair dryer available and I took it for granted that all hotels/motels supply you with them; and the blankets on the beds are much too thin to keep a human being warm. Definitely remember to use your heater! :)

Clean enough and close enough to Hearst Castle. Book for 1 person and leave any other ppl you're sharing the room with in the car when you check in. Motel 6 charges by the person--save yourself a few bucks. Available wi-fi is only $2.99. If you're trying to check email through your cell phone, it can be spotty, so opt for the wi-fi.

We're Motel 6 fans. We've stayed here 3 times. Our rooms were spacious and had 2 queen beds and a table with chairs. Our windows faced the pool, the ocean and the parking lot (not a problem with noise)
Our room was sparkling clean and super quiet, even though the motel was full on two occasions.
No complaints at all. We'd gladly stay here again and have.
No mints on your pillow. Nice staff. Friendly, non-snobby fellow motel dwellers.
FYI Non-high season rates are low: $50 something for 3 adults
(Internet rate)
We paid over $100 in late June though.
Best to book ahead if you can. When we stayed there MLK Jr weekend they were completely booked.

Being the Marriott princess (platinum premier baby!) that I am, the idea of losing my Motel 6 virginity was a bit unnerving. But at $50/night on a holiday weekend, the price could not be beat.
No nonsense, no frills, towels feel like sandpaper, make sure to bring your own shampoo/cond. But it was safe, efficient, close to Hearst Castle and sufficient for a single night stay with friends.
You get what you pay for, right? Motel Six in San Simeon is located on Hwy 1 on a sort of motel strip with at least 5-6 other motels on the same street. The rooms have thin walls (we could hear our neighbor's dog barking occasionally), tv, shower, and are relatively clean. Staff has a perennially bored look on their faces. You can't really blame them.
The restaurant downstairs is decent but by no means amazing. Unfortunately, there are not that many options in the immediate area, besides the restaurants of the other motels on the strip and a creepy mini mart/liquor store a quarter mile down the road.
So, why the four stars considering the lackluster nature of the motel? Well, this place is a pretty good value; you can get double for about $45 if you reserve on the internet. We even had a view of the ocean. Decent sleeping accommodations and no surprises.

we chose this place after reading the reviews
was better than expected
but needs some improvements
the toilet flush was broken and the mechanism had a rubber band attached to make it work ... which of course did not help
the shower seemed to be one to douse the calif wildfires .... the water force hurting the skin all over ... even the delicate body parts
the exhaust fan was too noisy
the room walls are thin enough to hear next door rooms guests' conversations and tv programs
even the room door rattles whenever any other room door in the vicinity is closed
the comforter cover needs to be better ... they seem to be taken from a distasteful pre-teen boy' rooms !!
With it's rates about $100 less than other motels in the area, this Motel 6 is a bargain. The rooms are very basic and clean with no frills. On check in you get a 15% off coupon for the attached restaurant but we didn't eat there. My only complaint is that the walls are paper thin -we heard people in the agacent rooms talking all night and when someone in an adjacent room uses the shower the pipes make a LOT of noise.

Pretty decent. I've always had an aversion to staying at a Motel 6, but this wasn't too bad. It was the cheapest place I could find and we got some additional discounts. Plus, it's only 3 miles away from Hearst Castle. There are a bunch of other motels along the same road, but this was definitely the cheapest one with availability at the time. It's not pretty on the outside and the carpets in the hallways are a little grungy, but the room is clean, simple, and basic. They didn't have any tissues or a clock in the room. Or shampoo for that matter, but for a place to lay your head for the night, it did the trick.
I chose this hotel because it was the only hotel that allowed the dog to stay in the room without us. That would be the only good thing about it in my eyes. The room was big, two beds that were comfortable. The pillows were very thin. The towels were paper thin and like sand paper. We had two remotes only one worked partially. Blanket was very scratchy and thin. The people were nice, but the guy in the wheelchair which was given the second floor wasn't too pleased. Nice pool area, but wasn't able to use it. When we had arrived they were handing out the room keys for the rooms that weren't clean yet, we sat in the hall for fifteen minutes. Don't bother with the restaurant, it is overpriced and not very good. The shower runs hot and cold, so be ready to jump. The WIFI was a joke, I couldn't get a signal on the IPhone, so I called the tech support, they tried to reset the system and were very nice while they tried in vane, we were able to get one bar at each location he said that it would be the strongest and two in the lobby, got my money back.
Not bad actually.....good service, folks were kind enough to bring a pack 'n play to the room for my toddler. Nothing to complain about. Had breakfast at the adjacent restaurant which was pretty good. For staying at this Motel 6 you also get some kind of voucher for some percentage off your meal at the restaurant.

A pleasant surprise ... clean, cheap ($60 versus $140 for the local alternatives) and convenient. You certainly didn't come here for the room, but for the splendor of more than 100 miles of unspoilt coastal road. No complaints.
another stop along my motel6 run down the california coast. as far as cheap motels go, this was pretty nice, and not so cheap. $90/night, but it's right across the street from the beach at san simeon (our room would've had a fantastic ocean view if it wasn't for a large shrub in front of the window). san simeon, by the way, is where hearst castle is, so it's a good location if you want to see that.
